When I was in elementary school they replaced the playground substrate from sand to bark, but to do that they literally just dumped all of the bark on top of the sand.

For some reason all of us children were livid about this and demanded the sand be brought back, so the kids all sat shoulder to shoulder on their butts and used their legs to kick all of the bark back, progressing through the playground with startling efficiency. There was even a "WHAT DO WE WANT? SAND!" chant going STRONG

3rd grade teacher runs out, near tears, begging us to stop, and this is where she FUCKS UP because she says

"I don't care if you dig a hole to China just stop DOING THAT"

well we stopped doing that, and immediately began construction on The Hole

Within 3 days The Hole was about a foot and a half wide, but The Hole was DEEP. a 5th grader would hop down and disappear entirely. A mob bucket was confiscated from the janitor to deal with the the rising water problem as the hole got deeper. The sheer display of cooperation and dedication we had to The Hole bordered on reverence.

It was the highlight of the day to go to recess and resume construction of The Hole

Eventually I'm pretty sure a second grader fell in and twisted their ankle and then they put a piece of plywood over the top of the hole and covered it with sand and bark. We all forgot about it immediately and I don't remember anyone ever bringing it up again

I made these as a way to compile all the geographical vocabulary that I thought was useful and interesting for writers. Some descriptors share categories, and some are simplified, but for the most part everything is in its proper place. there ARE ways to cut down on your private info being surveilled and commodified.

consider not owning an Alexa/Google Home or at least keeping it unplugged when it’s not in use. yes, the AI is shit but don’t be lulled into a false sense of security – the microphone works just fine and has been shown to record and send out your data even when the corp promises it isn’t!

that Amazon doorbell is constantly recording video and using it in who knows what unethical ways, including - this is verified - sharing it with ICE. owning one directly endangers your neighbors who aren’t consenting to this surveillance!

consider not using Google for everything – try an anti-tracking search engine like Duck Duck Go even if you have to resort to Google after. we can’t get a better search engine until we train it with use!

consider replacing Chrome on your phone and laptop with Brave, a browser built literally on the exact same software (Chromium) but which not only rips out allllll the bloaty tracking Google adds in, it also attempts to block a lot of the tracking that giant websites like Facebook do on every single web page you visit (even if you aren’t logged into Facebook). it runs literally identically to Chrome, only faster.

like basically as an individual you can start taking back control of your data by learning who steals what and how, and taking steps to curtail that theft.

consider checking the permissions of the apps in your phone. Facebook and others routinely steal your contact lists and even your text message and call history, and part of what they do with this info is to build highly detailed “ghost profiles” on your friends who have never been on facebook in the first place and don’t know they’re being surveilled through your phone.

resist the urge to give into apathy! there are things that can be done, and it is worth it to take back even a bit of your private life. we don’t have to just cave to the capitalist surveillance state.

importantly, once you’ve started looking at this shit in your personal life, it may seem more feasible to look at how to organise with others to more effectively resist capitalism’s ever-growing control of our private data.

Avatar Remastering Project

Hey guys! Exciting news–the fan-run Avatar Remastering Project is getting closer to completion everyday! This project is upscaling and remastering every single episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender in beautiful HD (1080p vs the original 480p, or 1440x1080 vs 720x480). 

This means, for the first time ever, you’ll be able to watch Avatar: The Last Airbender in HD! 

Additionally, the interlacing and haloing (glowy white borders around black outlines) have been removed.

The latest update was November 27, 2016 (2 days ago):

We’ve finished upscaling all 61 episodes. This unarguably took the most amount of time (400+ hours) Right now we have to look for visual errors in every episode and correct those scenes. Not sure how long that’s gonna take. After we’re done fixing everything, we’re ready to start uploading.

I’m not affiliated with this project, but I am super excited to be able to watch and edit Avatar in HD for the first time ever! The dedication of the Avatar fandom never ceases to amaze me, and the fact that a fanmade project like this is in the works more than 10 years after the show’s premiere is a real testament to the quality of ATLA.

This is a matter very close to my heart. I have bipolar I disorder and ADHD as a result of bipolar. There aren’t many big posts about studying with mental illnesses so I figured I would compile a huge list of tips and posts! I’m going to be making a video about this very soon. I hope for all of you struggling that this can help or at least remind you that mental health is more important than school sometimes. Take care of yourself in any way you can. lets get started…

Studying with Mental Illness

Take things slowly. Don’t be afraid to take a week doing one assignment. Making sure that you can focus on assignments can be draining so breaking them down day by day can truly help you. Make a task list with each portion of an assignment mapped out so that you can see exactly what you need to do. I know that i get overwhelmed very easily and seeing smaller things is less daunting then having a list full of HUGE things like research papers and midterms. Seeing it as “write paragraph one” or “review unit one vocab” makes everything less scary. 

Nothing has to be pretty. Notes don’t, papers don’t have to be perfect, study guides don’t need to be colorful and cute. What really matters is getting things done. My mom always tells me “even an F is better than a zero” which is so true. Turning things in late is not shameful because you are still turning it in. You still did it and that is something to be proud of. 

Study somewhere other than your room or your house. Make sure there are people there. Surrounding yourself with others will allow you to feel less isolated and sometimes more motivated to do things. You can’t take naps when you’re at a Panera or Starbucks either. People can be motivating, they can remind you that you are not alone, they can hold you accountable for what you have to do. Get out of your bed where you can sit and stare at the wall and go to a coffee shop or the library where other people are doing work. This always helps me get on track. 

Study in short bursts. Don’t wear yourself out with work. Find out when your concentration peaks and go with that. I usually work the best around 2pm so I have to make sure that I have eaten and showered before then so that I can capture that time to focus on my studies. 

Don’t beat yourself up. Studying just takes a lot more effort other days when depression hits you the worst. There might be days when you can barely get yourself out of bed but know that you do have the ability to succeed and that depression just has to suck sometimes. 

Get yourself out of bed. Shower. Change your clothes. Read a single page. Look at only one thing you have to do so you aren’t overwhelmed. That is something to be proud of and know that I am proud of what you did!

Study in a routine style. Let yourself have a routine that you can fall into. Try pomodoros or study games, Create a routine that you can stick to

If you don’t feel like doing anything… work for 5 minutes. You may feel more motivated or up, or you will at least be able to say that you have done something. 

HYDRATE. I’m really awful at drinking a lot of water, but it helps so much with both anxiety and depression. Water keeps you moving and awake. SO drink that H2O guys
