Literally Treat Yo Self
@JennySlate: What if just even one plant said hi to me or a tree bashfully bowed as I walked by, what if my dog knew what I mean when I wave to him
general social etiquette for making plans (mostly applies to one-on-one plans):
if you do want to go but can’t make it at that date/time: suggest a new date/time. this is your job now, as the person who can’t make the initial suggestion! just saying ‘nope i’m busy at that time’ puts all the scheduling burden on the asker, and making plans is a two-way street. (it’s such a nightmare to continue suggesting dates and to continue hearing ‘i have plans then, when else can we do it’!!!)
if you don’t want to go: say ‘thanks for the invite, but i’m not really into [alligator wrestling/competitive embroidery/guy fieri lookalike contests]. thanks for thinking of me though!’ ambiguity is no fun, make it totally clear that you are not down. this has the added benefit that, in the future when you do accept an invite, the asker knows you’re totally into it!!!! (begging off in other ways [like having ambiguous fictional ‘other plans’] can lead to the asker suggesting multiple other dates/times, which can frustrate them and make you anxious)
if you are the person inviting someone to a thing: be explicit about the date and time, or range of dates and times. ‘let’s do this someday’ is unhelpful and frustrating!! at the very least, try to narrow it down a little (like, ‘what saturday in the next month works for you’)
I feel fundamentally dishonest using the phrase “low key” so often because inside my heart n soul I’m actually and unambiguously and inappropriately obsessively 100% full scale high key about literally everything I ever think and feel and look at.
“There is a kind of woman who is economically powerful, professionally powerful who threatens a white male grip on power that has a long historic precedent in the country. Independent women living outside of marriage threaten all kinds of things about the way power is supposed to work.“ – Rebecca Traister, in an interview with Salon, about her new book from Simon and Schuster, All the Single Ladies: Unmarried Women and the Rise of an Independent Nation.
They call me coffee cuz I grind so fine
They call me coffee I keep you up past 2 am
They call me coffee because I’m really bitter and most people don’t like me without changing some aspect of what I am
Holy shit
1) holy shit
2) @esakris this reminds me of cori

Rest stops on highways are liminal spaces where the veil is thin and nobody can tell me differently
Explain
The explanation is that liminal spaces are in between places that bridge Here with There, so in fairy tales we often have the Fairy Ring, the Forest Clearing, the Sudden Misty Foggy Forest, the Bridge, the River, graveyards, in some cases
We also have a ton of american urban mythology around famous roadways and sites off the sides of roads
Archetypes like these occur to mark the places in the world where the veil goes thin and humans can have extra-worldly experiences, out of the ordinary way of living
So why wouldn’t transient spaces like rest stops where everyone is just passing through from one place to the next, never stopping for too long, not be a liminal space where spirits frequent, too
Especially since nobody would know if they were real or not
Ok but this speaks to me
I always feel like something isn’t quite right at rest stops
I once slept though three gas stations on a road trip, and the second the car started to slow to turn into a rest stop, I was basically wide awake.
My mom and I were on I-90 in a blizzard once and pulled off at the first exit we could find. Turns out that if we’d gone even a mile further, we would have happened on a 49-and-counting car pileup, and that 90 was closed for MILES. How we found an unblocked ramp was a matter of great debate, but where this gets weirder still is that at the bottom of the ramp was a closed truck stop and an open church full of teenagers–they went for youth group, the blizzard started, and they were stuck until the snow stopped. They fed us leftovers from their potluck dinner, prayed with us for safe travel, and when the snow let up they saw us on our way.
Three days later–Sunday–we were traveling back and decided to stop at that church to thank them. We found it thanks to the truck stop, but this time it was the truck stop that was open and the church that was closed. Neither of us remembered it looking so decrepit on the trip down, and granted we saw it first at night in a snowstorm, but you’d think we’d have noticed the boarded-up windows. So we asked in at the truck stop.
The church had been abandoned for ten years. And yet I still had one of their youth group programs under my sun visor, very clearly labeled for the previous week.
To this day I’m sure we crossed dimensions somewhere on I-90, and that’s how we stayed safe. You could tell me it’s because the truck stop was a liminal space and I’d 100% believe you.
I don’t mind when this post goes around again because sometimes I get stories like this
Mood || You were right about the stars, each one is a setting sun.
*about not shaving my legs* what if my family asked you to go swimming with them?? you wouldnt even shave them then???
Manslation: Don’t I own you in a house? Don’t I own you with a mouse? Don’t I own you here or there? Don’t I own you anywhere? Don’t I own your body hair? I do own it, everywhere!
man, i feel really flaky and gross lately and I just can’t stop being torn between wanting to give context to my behavior but not wanting to over-share.
Wait, does rapper B.o.B. really think the Earth is flat — or is he trolling us?
After claiming to have watched Felix Baumgartner’s famous Red Bull Stratos jump from the edge of space, recording artist B.o.B is furiously tweeting everything science says about the Earth being round is a total lie. Why is he doing this? We have an idea.
Follow @the-future-now
Update: Neil deGrasse Tyson has joined the fray to lay the scientific smackdown on B.o.B.
Tyson sent the rapper multiple tweets disproving him and then things got personal.
Update: This feud is getting weirder and weirder. B.o.B released a new track “Flatline” on Monday, that takes a few shots at Neil deGrasse Tyson. “Aye, Neil Tyson need to loosen up his vest,” the rapper spits. “They’ll probably write that man one hell of a check.”
And then Tyson fired back with a diss track of his own. Really.
The astrophysicist enlisted the help of his nephew Stephen J. Tyson, who is apparently a rapper. Tyson delivers the facts at B.o.B. over a Drake beat.
