not to be too woke but there's something pretty sinister about how people often write kazui in patriarchal roles. adopting the cast and being their dad, teaching them to be 'strong' and such... like hey i think this is the one character we shouldn't be doing this with. like the one guy who's suffered all his life at the hands of the patriarchy.
"I want to empathize with Hinako, but honestly, she's so stupid and just overreacted. She could just talk to Kazui, lol. to live for several years without sex and be surprised that your husband is gay. It's all her fault."
And you know what? She was trying to talk. We were literally shown this twice.
Let's not go back to fucking 2023, when it all just started, because I'm really tired of this "Hinako is evil bitch" shit. We've discussed this so many times and I can't believe it's starting over again.
We were shown twice their attempt to talk about it, to discuss it. Hinako is the first one who puts her hand on Kazui's cheek in an attempt to give him comfort and show that she is here, she is ready to listen and discuss. We were told several times in the canon that she was a loving and understanding woman who accepted Kazui. They were best friends with a good relationship, after all.
He confesses his love to the person who has been important to him all this time, and in return receives words that it is disgusting. He's drunk, in despair, and his head is in complete chaos. His emotions are in complete chaos. He scares not only her, but also himself, not giving her or himself a chance to talk properly.
Hinako literally runs after him and tries to find him to talk to. Because, again, as we've been shown in the canon itself, they care about each other and are important to each other. Hinako wants this conversation herself, but Kazui hates himself so so much, still affected by the rejection.
He's scared, he's ashamed, he walks away from this conversation, closing himself in and pushing her away from him.
We don't know how many years their marriage lasted. And we don't know what condition Hinako herself was in. People laugh at the fact that she wasn't embarrassed by the lack of sex in the relationship all this time, but she could just respect Kazui and his choice, even if he could say without details that he just didn't want it. We don't know if she knew that Kazui didn't love her the way she loved him. We can only speculate.
She didn't die because he's gay and she is an "evil homophobe." Again, she was pretty understanding, that's canon. She spent part of her life in lie, living a scenario that was never real. And in an attempt to talk, she is simply pushed away. Just as the bartender rejected Kazui, Kazui rejected Hinako. And in the end, absolutely everyone turned out to be unhappy, broken.
Kazui and Hinako are both victims who suffered from homophobia AND misogyny. And trying to figure out which of them is more evil, who is more stupid, who is more emotional and unstable does not make sense. This is a chain that entails more and more events.
Could Hinako be rational and think with her head instead of her heart? Yes, she could. It could have been Kazui too. But they are primarily people who have emotions and different reactions to events. They can both be understood, they can both be sympathized with, they are both traumatized.
If people want to hate someone in particular in this story, they can hate the bartender who literally started this chain. Not a woman who's already dead. And not a man who has lost absolutely everything because of a homophobic society.
That's all I wanted to say. Let's not go back to 2023. Thank you.
the wording of official content could not make it more clear that the part that hurt hinako the part that she took issue with the fact she'd been living a lie
if she was homophobic (like massively cuz of the generation she's def got internalised stuff) it would have been made a bigger deal of in the report but instead what the team highlight over and over his their connection and her understanding to/of kazui
and I think it's alot more interesting when you look at it through that angle Kazui was 'forcing' hinako to live a lie the same sort of life that torments him and live with the knowledge of that and we see with both of them that living a lie while logically it can work neither can stouch it #instead choosing to reveal the truth and die respectivelv and it's that whole idea of others over self again….heartbreaking damn
Though I do believe alot of what kazui says about himself is more about self deprecation and learned beaten in shame then an actual objective assessment of the situation I think the line “playing house with love” is telling. We see him hide himself away emotionally- walls hinako cannot break down.
I think their key tragedy is more these people love each other so much but not in the “right way” and so are forced into a romantic relationship that’s a ticking time bomb- in this society they not only come to hate themselves but be forced together and by that forced apart. In another set of circumstances- hell in in these they’re incredibly close but it fundamentally cannot last no matter what either party dose they hurt eachother and that’s what’s supposed to be sad not hinako intentionally hurting kazui or being homophobic her death is a reflection on how *both* of them where affected by social exceptions.
Okay but there is smth funny abt 40 year old man kazui unironic ILY
Camouflage was everything I wanted. It didn’t greatly exceed my expectations but it was solid. I wanted some mv prison angst since fuuta , yuno and muu all got references to other prisoners but we can’t have dead shidou shot. Okay. Fine. No dead wife / best friend comparison. Sadness. I’m glad this one didn’t wildly contradict theorists even if it’s simple. He is 100% getting innoed.
The main thing I liked and that struck me is the visual and description that even after hinako died he mourned yes but was consumed by the image of his best friend. In complete visual and tonal contrast. It feels like alittle bit of balanced moral ambiguity or atleast flavour and it’s sad like even after his life has fallen apart and that friend hates him he still looks back in their memory and can’t be free of it or his feelings nor live them out
The painting inspired visuals were so fun. Especially with the tessellations. Yk the thing that is based on every part being the same and locking together perfectly aghhgghgh. Hinako’s bird being a tessellation too…I like how there is a sorta parallel where plp often think abstract weird paintings are just that weird and why can’t they be normal? Or less confusing and they don’t try and understand them which feels very kazui best friend core
special thanks to my friends for letting me use their tv and one of their rats just for this specific image 😭

I think the real crime here is boyfriend-san failing to match mahiru's freak. If my girl wants me to eat wild rodents you know I'm listening to her no hesitation 🙏

WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE RAT EATING WAS LITERAL?!
truly impressive and honestly fucking hilarious that shidou managed to paint himself Doing His Job as being an evil despicable murderer while completely omitting the part where he did, in fact, kill a guy
I hate the shidou backstory…it’s just so comparatively emotionally simple and almost clean? There are interesting bits of depth to it I guess if I hold myself to being impartial and he did still break the oath I’m pretty sure by killing the taxi driver to prioritise his family but even if the themes of judging a life and how you can get attached to someone and prioritise them leading to another’s death which I think is supposed to be an audience parallel? But goddamn it I was attached to his medical malpractice and it had the interesting question of if killing someone brain dead for their organs for your own loved ones was justified much more at the forefront…and there are some things I don’t get how we where supposed to figure out? Specifically that his victim was seemingly the taxi driver that killed his family specifically ughh it just doesn’t sit right with me
But hey atleast we where right his kids and wife got hit by a car.
I also feel weird about amane having a knife for some reason…it just felt kinda uncanny to me
