Japanâs complete lack of understanding of declining birth rates in relation to its work culture reminds me a lot of how America has an assumption that millennials are killing industries when the truth is they are more frugal because of a lack of funds.
Both come from a conservative mindset that neglects the impact that a toxic work culture can have on society.
A 80+ hour work week in order to maintain financial stability isnât exactly a solid ground to date people and eventually build a family from a healthy relationship.
A workforce comprised of 20 somethings that make between 20-40k a year in entry positions isnât a good ground to build a reliable consumer base when a huge chunk of that is going to rent, utilities, car payments, and student loans.

Me (while staring down at my phone): can you please not do that
okay but why the fuck do you black out when all you pokemon faint?
cause im sad
your pokemon cant protect you anymore so the enemy trainer just fucking clocks you
Yall do know that if you only hit someone up to talk about how sad you are & not much else, youre training that person to get sad whenever they see ur name in their notifications, right?
Its cool to have someone ya vent to, but the people you vent to are people too yanno? Hold a conversation with them. Remind them that theyre actually friends & not a bucket out only approach to dump your woes into. Things like that weigh on people.
Whatâs the mood for 2018
trying your best, forgiving yourself, getting to know yourself better, evaluation + action, being more thoughtful with your time and your body and your words, prioritizing happiness and love and the people who keep you afloat, getting money
the president of the grammys really said women didnât get the recognition they deserved because they need to âstep up,â yet he said he canât wait to see taylor swift next yearâŠâŠâŠ boy bye
kesha sang about healing after being raped and she lost to a bland song about the shape of a womanâs body. lorde wrote a whole album about being cheated on and the struggles of being a teenage girl and she was the only aoty nom to not be asked to perform solo. lady gagaâs album was about the passing of her aunt and how to deal with a loss and she didnât win. sza, who was the most nominated female, wrote an album about the hardship and beauty of being a black woman and lost in every category. all of these women wrote about their emotions and setbacks, and they were all snubbed. but go ahead, give taylor swift multiple grammys because she wrote a catchy song about how âbadâ she is for tricking a black man into looking like a villain.
Frida Kahlo disliked white capitalism intensely, so I would recommend not buying images of her on socks or whatever from big box stores especially if youâre white.
What I would recommend instead is make your own art and design inspired by her. She taught underprivileged teenagers art in the years leading up to her death. Her class was multicultural due to Mexico accepting refugees from WW2 including Jewish people(she herself was half German Jewish). She was very pro DIY and I think wouldâve been flattered by fan art thatâs not sold for money.Â

I was reading this article about how much work and heart hiromu arakawa put into writing fullmetal alchemist and Silver spoon and Iâm honestly so impressed???
-she talked with war veterans and people with disabilities to accurately depict characters with those backgrounds
-she also researched military corruption extensively
-she fought to bring in more female characters with her editors who opposed it
-she has told her readers that there is no shame in leaving an emotionally toxic situation and you should never feel ashamed of it
-she based the situation with the ishvalan people off of a real displaced indigenous group called the ainu people in hokkaido to raise awareness of their situation
-she criticizes the notion of self sacrifice being a noble thing especially since itâs such a prevalent theme in most shonen manga
-she worked on a farm with a lot of hardworking women and wanted her work to reflect just how complex real women can be rather than overdone anime stereotypes
-she has stated that she thinks there is value in not repressing anger in the face of injustice, and she thinks itâs good to use that anger in constructive ways
-she has emphasized in her story that you donât always have to forgive the people who hurt you
-she worked on and alongside several other manga one shots, illustrations, character designs, anime adaptions, movie adaptions, and light novels all while having three kids over the course of her career
I donât even think this is everything I read but hiromu arakawa is a goddamn badass
The other day I answered the door to my postman. I was signing for stuff, like you do, when my kid came downstairs with only his underwear and a t-shirt on.
Now, the postman couldnât see him from the front door, and I scribbled my signature and said, to my son, âYou need to put some trousers on.â
My postman, very slowly, looked down at his trouser-clad legs with a mixture of confusion and horror, and then looked back up at me.
When I explained I was talking to my little boy out of his line of sight, he gave a very solemn nod and said: âI thought Iâd put trousers on this morning, but suddenly when you said that, I really wasnât sure.âÂ
Years after this, I still have the same postman. He still always wears trousers, but every time I answer the door, Iâm pretty sure we both remember this incident.
