To one sort of capitalist, the insecurity and chaos that Brexit will bring is horrifying. To the other, it is highly profitable
Donald Trump's critics saw a pastel-faced buffoon destined to melt away from the political scene after a brief attention-seeking campaign run. How wrong they were. He's changed his party, revealed new truths about his country, and he has no intention of ever leaving politics entirely.
One very important thing — maybe the most important thing — changed in American politics this week. But several other important things seem to have stayed the same.
A Muslim life taken by a white bigot clearly does not matter as it would if the roles were reversed.
“Had Muslim gunmen killed six white Christians, half the world would have Canadian flags as profile pictures.”
“A Muslim life taken by a white bigot clearly does not matter as it would if the roles were reversed.”
FACTS.
First lady Melania Trump says she is one of "the most bullied' people in the world, which is the reason she created her anti-bullying campaign.
"At present, every nation in the world is a ‘developing’ country when it comes to mental health."
Samuel Waite would sooner spend time in the great outdoors than on Facebook. And while he has plenty of face-to-face conversations with his friends, he worries those that are stuck behind screens are 'missing out on something.'
Kentucky’s Republican governor says Canada's retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods are financially driven.
"To me, multiculturalism means a single big bouquet with as many colours as possible, not a multiplicity of bouquets, each of only one colour,” Calgary journalist and commentator Israr Kasana says about our city's social fabric.
lgbeart replied to your link “Economists reverse claims that $15 Seattle minimum wage hurt workers,…”
Let me just note this is Seattle. most economists would probably agree 15 dollars would be fine in a large city; there would probably be damages rendered in smaller towns, i.e. disemployment effects.
I wouldn’t say that.
The cost of living is way less expensive in smaller towns than it is in big cities.
You don’t pay city gas taxes or city based property taxes, housing is way less expensive, etc.
That’s why the living wage in small towns is usually several dollars lowers in small towns. For example the town of Qualicum in B.C., its living wage is about $16/hour; in Vancouver its over $20/hour.
Also $15/hour from this study is in US dollar, which is over $19/hour Canadian.
Employers all across Canada can afford to pay their workers a bare minimum of $15/hour.
I like to refer to the situation with the Weston company (loblaws etc, a big grocery chain company).
when Wynn first put out the legislation to bring ontario’s minimum wage up to 14 dollars an hour, with a scheduled increase to 15, the head of Westons declared that it would cost the company like….160million dollars in profits that year.
this seems like a large amount of profits, until you saw the numbers that said the company saw a growth of over 300 million in profits in JUST THE PREVIOUS QUARTER OF THAT YEAR!
so they were whining about a loss of 160 mil, when that was covered by just over half the GROWTH of that quarter’s profits. that doesn’t tough there’s ‘normal’ profits for that quarter, and there is still the rest of the year’s profits on top of that (please make note that the 160 mil ‘loss’ was for the whole year, not just the quarter)
And assuming the rest of the year had the same growth, Loblaws would make a yearly profit of 1.2 Billion dollars.
160 million/1.2 billion = 13% decrease in total profit.
Total profit: $1.04 BILLION DOLLARS.
Companies like Loblaws are obscenely greedy.
When a viral video of a Russian woman pouring bleach on male commuters came across producer Nikolay Nikolov's desk, he was immediately suspicious.

Facing the prospect of bruising electoral defeat in congressional elections, U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he won't accept the blame if his party loses control of the House in November, arguing his campaigning and endorsements have helped Republican candidates.
A Sudbury addictions specialist says he hopes the new chronic pain clinic at Health Sciences North will help address the ongoing opioid crisis.
City police would be allowed to march in the 2019 Pride parade following a two-year ban if they meet Pride Toronto's entrance policy, the organization says.
