Did my ch 212 to start the scarf and spent the time thinking "this is why we don't work scarves lengthwise" even though I recognize why the pattern works this way.

I think I have an extra stitch but it's just scarf length so meh not fixing it.

Also I forget where I saw someone complaining about stitching into the back bump of a chain but I still think they're nuts - back bump and stacked singles are both in my "doing it this way forever" toolkit

Now just to multiple rows of blodc while crossing fingers on the yarn chicken.

So technically I'm done with the hood of this pattern, but it's still feeling very short which tracks since 4 rows is about 1.5" and gauge is 2", but the 1.5 is unblocked.

I'm debating just accepting I'm losing yarn chicken on this anyway and adding 2-4 more rows and ordering some more yarn later. I don't think I want to block it to 2" per 4 because I'd like the stitches to stay closer for warmth reasons.

One of the things that infuriates me about r/crochethelp is how many posters just want to offload their thinking onto others.

"How do I pick colors for my project?" "Can someone help me think of new project ideas?"

This may actually be pissing me off more than all the posts that could be simply answered with "for the love of god, please use ravelry" ("where can I find free/cheap patterns" "where can I find patterns that aren't full of AI?" "Anyone know how this yarn looks worked up?" etc)

Not that I necessarily want mods to do anything about it, we already have the r/crochet martinets.

Today I stripped the sheets off my bed and threw them in the wash with my pillow, and due to unfortunate circumstances none of the above are dry AND I haven’t been able to wash the blanket I’ve been using and which needs a wash because it has got The Stink. So I redressed my bed with unfamiliar sheets from the closet, and an elaborate crochet blanket I rescued from the thrift at least two years ago because it is huge and gorgeous and I couldn’t find what was wrong with it, and with the open work it looks awesome atop the peacock throw:

And finally, FINALLY! having it spread out on the bed atop a dark contrasting color enabled me to see just what was so wrong that it was abandoned to the thrift:

That is so, so fixable. I can do that. I’m not gonna right now, it’s gonna sit on my bed like this until the Executive Dysfunction Weasels determine the hands of the Mending Clock are in position for the deal or whatever.

thank you so much for doing all that investigative work and writing it out! and especially for the note on the sl st behind the bobbles, that's always something i miss somehow

this is what i got by following it as you wrote- i did use US dc for the main body since they seem to match the height in the photos a little more, but kept the US tc for the bobbles to make them puff out more

going by the photos, it almost looks like they attached entirely new strands of yarn for the triangles/lacy bits, but that didn't seem right based on how fiddly it would be (especially for a blanket) or based on how it's coming apart, so instead i tried doubling back with chains, tc, and sc to create it

so for mine the last round was:

So many fiber arts have difficulty levels that are less about your level of skill than your ability to tolerate extreme multi-step processes.

Not sure got to feel when the hobby book says this should only take an hour but it took me 5 hours.

2. Hobby books are even more often written by people who don't have or are actively neglecting their partners/full-time jobs/pets/children/household maintenance.

5. If you're doing something for the first time, you're going to take way, way longer to do it than someone who's had years of practice. Maybe it does only take an hour IF YOU'VE BEEN DOING IT FOR TEN YEARS. Think about how long it took you to make idk your first excel spreadsheet vs how long it takes now

To actually answer your question: proud. You should feel proud, because you made something, AND you did so while learning a brand-new skill! Go you!!

I really want to start that Juliette Hooded Shawl, but that's gonna use quite a bit of yarn that I don't want to bring, so it will probably be the Wanderer Scarf, which means sometime this week I gotta cake up the Rios Pupuras like I don't have enough going on.
