I had the most surreal experience today.
I got kicked off a discord server for… linking to fluff. I posted some links to fics that I described as “dub-con comfort”—where the character is comforted, but it’s unclear if they actually consent to being comforted. Getting tasty dessert while they insist they can subsist on 1 meal per day. Having their wounds tended when they insist they’re fine. Being carried and placed into a comfy bed when claim that not sleeping on the floor will make them soft and weak. Stuff like that, usually with them secretly enjoying the kindness!
Naturally, this caused me to be kicked without warning and without violating any listed rules. Obviously. (I never would have guessed why without sneaking back in to PM the mod). Upon inquiring about my ban and being told this reason, I wanted to clarify, just to be sure. I explained my above usage of the phrase “dub-con” comfort. Verified that I wasn’t even talking about sex. Asked if the concept was really something that made people that uncomfortable (to the point of an instaban), when you literally see the dynamic in kids shows. And they confirmed that yes, that was exactly why they didn’t want me in the server! (Blocking me before I could say anything more)
Now, if this was any old server, it would be weird. But this was the “Izzy Hands Apologists” server. For people don’t know—Izzy is the most dickish, toxic character in all of Our Flag Means Death (I adore him anyway). Most people in the server loved the forced autocannibalism scene he had. His fans and even his actor basically agree that he is into hardcore bdsm. He is so wrapped up in toxic masculinity, so unwilling to accept kindness, that you basically CAN’T have a fic where he is comforted without it being dubiously consensual. So the fics I was linking were some of the fluffiest things for him you could get, because the vast majority of stuff about him is dark as shit. (Which is also okay!)
But of all the fic content to get banned over, this is actually hilarious.
