clearly some of you have not been to the labyrinth of pestilence deep beneath kentucky
alright so when I was a teenager I went to this bug-themed summer camp for socially stunted nerds and on the way back from it I visited the university of kentucky. I met with an entomologist there and while we were touring the department he asked "wanna see something cool?" so he took me down an elevator to what must've been a sub-sub-sub basement on a card-access only floor, and after turning several more corners we went through two sets of (I'm not even exaggerating) 12-inch thick doors, opening onto one long as fuck corridor. each side of this hallway was lined with about 50 refrigerators. and each and every single one of these refrigerators was filled with hundreds of thousands. of live. bedbugs. the very reasonable explanation for this was that they were doing research on insecticides and needed to test them on real samples, but they could not under any circumstances allow them to escape, so they had to be kept under area 51 levels of overkill containment. but reasonable or not that was very much not what I anticipated seeing that day. so yeah. I decided after that I did not want to become an entomologist
absolutely baffled to get to the end of that story and hear you decide NOT to be an entomologist but possibly that's the entomologist in me speaking
as this breaches containment it is vital to me that The People know my problem with the bedbug labyrinth was NOT the bedbugs. that was obviously sick as fuck. the problem was it dawning on me how much entomology research is anti-bug instead of pro bug. weird girl equivalent of realizing how much time veterinarians spend putting down dogs
I tried to draw the late Hikaru with those tired-looking eyes he's been seen with in more recent flashbacks
#the expression is rather distinct from 'hikaru' it's not just me right #to be fair it wasn't as noticeable in earlier flashbacks but the author might've decided to make it more pronounced who knows #(i heard somewhere that they they started spelling things out more bc otherwise foreigners dont get it so...) #I think his expressions in ch1 are somewhat different from 'hikaru' too but i cant put a finger on it... #it's like more relaxed? in his lane? something like that #'hikaru's more excitable (x)
#yessss #i am really into seeing how og hikaru expressed himself #both in flashbacks and in the small moments we see our hikaru having to put the act of oghikaru up #someone who is more disengaged and distant but not unfriendly. all his emotions much more subdued #the only time its not is when we see him teasing yoshiki and he has that shit eating grin #that we see from the very first scene when our hikaru is still in oghikaru mode and in the first flashbacks #we see of oghikaru #oghikaru had all of his walls up all of the time #vs our hikaru who is open with everyone who knows his secret and can be himself around. even when hes hesitant about it #a habitual liar vs an open book (x)
#oh no it definitely looks different #it’s hard to describe but og hikaru looks more… mature and calm while ‘hikaru’s more excitable as you said (x)
pop health science is so annoying bc it'll be like "did you know? eating strawberries will give you mega cancer" and you're like pfft whatever begone influencer. but sometimes then you'll see a reasonably credible article like "Study Shows Possible Link Between Strawberries and Mega Cancer" and you're not usually the type to follow that kind of thing religiously but idk maybe you should consider not eating strawberries? but then there's another article saying "Strawberry/Mega Cancer Study Debunked" and it turns out the original study had a sample size of 3 and was funded by Big Blueberry, and strawberries may have a small connection to mega cancer but only if you are genetically predisposed to mega cancer and eat 50 strawberries every day. so you return to your strawberry eating life. but whenever you eat strawberries in public someone tells you about the mega cancer.

since tumblr already has some formatting options that other sites don't have like text color and bullet points i think they should just embrace it and add the ability to use LaTeX in your posts. this would make the site significantly worse
actually i think they should go all the way and change it so to post you can only use LaTeX. this is how you make tumblr the new pdf

how to have a sturgeon summer:
1. be quite large
2. use your barbels to find prey among the gravel along the bottom of the river
3. extend your siphon-like mouth to eat small fish, shellfish, and crustaceans
4. launch yourself out of the water and make a big splash just for fun
5. show off them scutes!
you can now enjoy your sturgeon summer
After 13 years of this, it's still funny to me that detailing a full mental breakdown on tumblr is standard fare, but posting a nice selfie is a fraught decision.
this is the correct way around and every other social media site is wrong
The Summer Hikaru Died is like. what if you believed you were a disgusting monster for being gay. but then you meet a real monster, and over time you start to believe that even this monster deserves to be safe and happy, and it's the first time you start allowing yourself to believe that maybe you do too. what if I cried one million tears forever
sometimes your distress does indicate you should stop and respect your limitations. at other times it's more of a baby aquatic mammal being introduced to water for the first time thing. Too bad the difference is so hard to tell.
The older i get the more i understand why some people become obsessed with privacy, not because they’re hiding something, but because being constantly perceived starts to feel spiritually exhausting.
Did you know that soda machines at restaurants and movie theaters spy on you? That most common new cars now record your sexual preferences and send it to the manufacturer (and also data about anyone who also gets in your car, walks by your car, and maybe happens to be within visual range of your car)? That grocery stores are trying to force customers to download an app to scan barcodes on shelves instead of putting up prices, so the app can scan the phone, decide how much that customer should be squeezed for, and adjust the price? That more and more innocent people are being sent to jail for crimes committed hundreds of miles away because an AI facial recognition algorithm spit their faces out and the cops didn't bother to do the most basic of checks?
I am not uptight about privacy because I'm hiding something. I'm uptight about it because the people who dismiss my right to privacy are dangerous to you and me and our families, personally, all the time.
And often, they are assholes, too.
