the ancestors are such a strange thing to be invested in, but also it makes total sense.
the sort of people who are really interested in ancestors are probably, if you think about it, the sort of people who would read your sort of typical fantasy overthrow-the-king sort of series but the kicker isā¦ the heroes lose? and thatās such a fascinating thing to think about because from a typical sort of story-telling perspective, it would be set up as the Next Generation saving the world, but that doesnātā¦ really happen. not in a way that would be satisfying from an outside perspective because really, the world that the Next Generation fought for was not the one our heroes died for.
but theres just something so appealing about these literal footnotes in homestuckās story that the people who are invested in the ancestors, while theyāll certainly also enjoy the main characters, will view their story as almost separate from the webcomic as a whole? at least, thatās how i feel about it.Ā
homestuck is a story that CONTAINS stories, and the ancestors one - even just the inner circles one - is just so fuckingā¦ deep and rich and really able to be dug into, but it gets maybe a few brief lines. but if you actually analyse NOT ONLY the small amounts of information you get, but also the worldbuilding weāre given, if you pick up on contextual clues, you can build up so much and thereās actually so much personality within these characters.Ā
its fascinating and i love it so much. i could analyse the ancestors for a lifetime and die happy about it
