Beijing's last beautiful sunrise before the five days of doom. 😷😷😷😷😷 Taken a few minutes after sunrise at 7:32 AM, 16 December 2016, from my Chem lab window. 🌞 ======================== Beijing issued the first red alert for air pollution of the year which will take effect tonight (16 Dec) until Wednesday night (21 Dec). During a red air pollution alert, PreK-12 classes are suspended, tougher restrictions are introduced for private car owners, industrial production are suspended, construction sites must reduce working hour lengths to minimise dust produced, and the public advised to stay indoors. I know I only had two wine glasses when I moved in to my apartment two years ago. Imagine my surprise when I counted 15 wine glasses of assorted sizes in my possession over the weekend! FIFTEEN! No, I didn't buy new ones and yes, the other 13 are what colleagues brought with them when asked to "bring your own drinks" (and glasses, sometimes plates, too!) on occasional get-togethers. No one wants their wine glasses back, I asked, so I made them into candle holders.
