They do indeed have marching bands in Japan. Some of them are pretty incredible. There’s really a growing presence of wind bands/marching bands and wind band composers in Japan right now.

okay omfg i've been thinking about this fuckin. vague as shit band au all day and i. need to share my headcanons

they're a military marching band because that's what im used to it's an au okay

yugi and yami are both saxaphone players. yugi's pretty good and has a lot of fun and yami's not as good but really determined to get better. yugi ends up helping yami with his parts a lot

honda and anzu are drum majors! honda's a trumpet player and anzu's a flutist. honda likes to think he's a lot better than he actually is at trumpet

jounouchi is convinced by yugi to join the band and starts in percussion playing cymbols because he doesn't really have any musical experience. he ends up liking it though and branches out and plays bass drum the following year

kaiba's an oboist and ridiculously good at it and everyone hates him for it. he plays sax during marching season because the oboe isn't a marching instrument but abhors marching and to top it off gets put next to yami and yugi. poor thing.

he learns clarinet instead the following year to be with mokuba but continues to play oboe in concert season

mokuba isn't all that interested in band at first but joins because of kaiba. he plays clarinet next 2 niisama and ends up liking it more than he thought he would. he's a pretty good player too but lazy with practicing

ryou is a flutist along with anzu. they share a stand and get to know each other more because of this and become buds and wow kawaii but yeah

marik plays the french horn.

maiiii is a clarinetist too. she keeps her distance from mokuba/kaiba at first but after a while develops a sort of weird friendship with mokuba that kaiba just rolls his eyes at.

during marching season anzu invites everyone to go to burger world after games. yugi's too tired to go a lot of the time but honda and jounouchi and ryou always go. whenever yugi goes he tries to invite kaiba and mokuba but fails most of the time (he actually does succeed a few times and it actually goes. decent??)
