Bug? Bug?? Bug??? Bug???? Bug????? Bug??????
BUG SGRAFFITO VASE
IT’S DONEEEEEE
Material(s): Oil pastels on Bristol to give a slight foggy/melty look.Fingers blending, paint pen for highlights
Process(es): Context feels intrusive. Viewer feels > distraught than her. Body lang = not overwhelmed, relieved.
TW: Self Harm!!!
Tried oil pastels just for funzies… IM IN LOVE 😫
TW: Self Harm!!!
Here are the first uncolored sketches. I really really liked the challenge of the anatomy and how the arms draw your eyes down to her hip, but my teacher suggested I lengthen her hair to add even more leading lines which was a great call imo
Then here are some color variations I did, and thank god for that because the blue contrasts SO much better than the red or purple 🙏🙏
TW: Self Harm!!!
Here are my first sketches for project 3!!! With this one I really wanted to explore the more… depressing parts of being a teenager. The unhealthy coping mechanisms we tend to have.
Some sketches I didn’t end up going with
Liked: themes, composition
Disliked: too romanticized for my SI
Material(s) : Colored pencil on Bristol for real-life features. Paint marker = flat color for screen details
Process(es) : Tried cartoon first, switched to realism = real teen experience. Draw girl, boy over, screen on top
IT’S OKAY TO FAIL!!!
This was my first try at the piece, and it looked alright… my family liked it, my friends liked it, my classmates liked it… but I thought I could do better. I asked my teacher and he agreed that he thought I could do better. So, I did some quick research on the best way to correctly redo an art piece.
Here are some sketches I made for my next piece! I knew I wanted to explore themes of not necessarily peer pressure, but the want to do crazy things with your friends / interest yk?
I thought weed and alcohol were a bit too demonizing for a piece about doing risky things with your peers so I tore a page out of my own life where I shaved a slit in my eyebrow on call with a boy lol.
I experimented with crazy colors too, but I didn’t particularly like them so I decided to go for more realism in the finished piece.
The finished piece, everyone!
Materials Statement: Base of alcohol markers. Colored pencil on paper, creating sketchy lines showing chaos & disorder
Process Statement: Basic room first w/ intent to be neat, messes layered & messy lines - no time/ motivation to clean
Pro tip: REFERENCE PHOTOS
Now, for my first piece I wanted something new, but simple. So I sketched out some ideas keeping this in mind
What I know I can do: Shading, colored pencils
What I want to work on: Taking advantage of space, perspective
The idea I wanted to tackle with this one was messy rooms. Being busy with school, work, friends, and so many other things can make it hard to keep a room clean. Not to mention mental illness.
Last post for now, my ideas board that my teacher had us create. Something to show the direction we plan to take our SI :)
Introducing 🥁🥁🥁 my SI!!!
SI, if you didn’t know, stands for Sustained Investigation, which is kind of like a theme or a topic you choose at the beginning of the class that all of your works will revolve around and build off of.
AP Art is a college level art class that involves lots of classwork, some writing, picking a theme, and recommends 8 hours a week of work outside of class. Sounds like a lot, right? Well, lucky for me, I hate myself 😊!
Here are a few of my older pieces to draw you in ;)
