I’m Elizabeth Morrison, a Kansas City transplant from Long Island, New York—which means I have very strong opinions about bagels, pizza, and what actually counts as a beach.

I’m working toward my B.A. in English and Creative Writing at Southern New Hampshire University, but my writing journey began the minute I could hold a pencil. Since then, I’ve filled shelves with drafts waiting to be edited, alongside plenty of new projects in the making.

I’m still experimenting—my style, voice, and niche are evolving as I figure out who I am as a writer. Sometimes that comes with a little first- and secondhand embarrassment… but I’ll get over it.

Now that I’ve been substitute teaching for a while and dealing with a lot of kids, it makes me think about my parents a lot.

I think about my own attitude and the way I react to these kids who aren’t even mine. I want to make sure I don’t hurt them. Even if I’m just a temporary person in their life.

My parents did irreparably damage to me.

And they didn’t even think twice.

I keep thinking about how I’m never going to hear apologies. Even if they were alive, they wouldn’t even realize they owe me one.

I’m going to graduate college soon and the only person excited about it will be me.

Not that I expect a big party, but even when I graduated high school, nobody came. Except for my boyfriend at the time.

Mom was dead and dad didn’t care.

I’m the one who witnesses my big events. Which is fine. I am proud of myself, but sometimes I wish someone else would show up for me. 

Maybe my degree online is better because I can make the excuse “well there isn’t a graduation anyway”.

It’s just lonely to be the only one who cares what I do.

It makes me want to do nothing.

I’m watching shameless and some of the dialogue from female characters is so obviously written by a man.

First off, when Lips college GF, Amanda, gets the lesbian roommate, no woman would ask “ is white okay?” when picking out towels. If the women are still getting periods, no one wants to ruin white towels. Dark towels, dark sheets. Maybe you own a few light ones for when you are 100% not actively bleeding.

Second, when Fiona asks “ Do you have a sanitary pad I could borrow?”. You simply ask “do you have a pad”. Any woman would know what that means, especially at the characters ages. Only a man would ask the proper “sanitary napkin”. Also, no woman would say “borrow” in that sentence. There is no borrowing of pads. You either have one or you don’t.

Those are just the two that made me shake my head but I’m sure there are plenty of other examples that I was not actively looking for.

Also, Debbie’s boy crazy and baby crazy era definitely came off cringe and didn’t seem very believable. I could see her wanting a baby to have someone that loves her unconditionally, but considering she ran a summer daycare, and helps raise Liam, they made her so naive to what it means to have a baby. Also, her lack of knowledge about boys and sex didn’t make sense considering she had obviously studied up about the pill and came off as someone who understood sex and outcomes. Sure, maybe a 15 year old doesn’t know how to be sexy, but she definitely didn’t need her extremely lewd friends advice. The friend characters, Holly and the pregnant girl were the worst (I can’t even remember her name that’s how little I cared about her character).

I still love this show but I’m paying more attention to the women now. I might even rewatch from the beginning to really pick out the female flaws.

I might be going a little crazy with this meal prep thing….

But I do need to track everything because there is a possibility I have PCOS or some sort of hormonal imbalance….I’m really hoping it’s not.

But the hairs on my chin and significant weight gain probably point towards yes…..😩😩💀💀

But I promised myself 2024 will be the year of doctors and health.

I don’t want to end up like my parents.

December 22nd,2023

Today I cried.

I cried a lot.

I hate not having real family.

I have friends who feel like family.

I have coworkers that feel like family.

But I am an orphan.

It’s a type of sadness I don’t think I’ll ever be able to put into words.

In a week I will be 32.

12 years with out a mom.

2 years without a dad.

But a lifetime without both. They never really raised me. My Dad was an avid fisherman and a carpenter but I can’t catch a fish and I can’t fix a wall.

My mom was….

I guess she taught me mental illness. But they both did.

I’m struggling .

’m optimistic.

I’m hurt.

I’m happy.

This is going to be my year….until I fail in February and then we are back to square one.

Let’s hope not….

A lot has changed, and a lot has stayed the same.

But at least I’m growing.

T-minus 29 days till I’m 32.

I feel like you can’t fully call yourself a local until you know where the cheap gas station is.

November 11th, 2023

Yesterday I filed for unemployment.

Since they cut my hours way below full time and I am a full time employee.

I’m showing up when I’m scheduled and leaving when I’m scheduled.

If they want me to do double the work, in half the time, with less people. Find someone else.

But, if they do try to fire me for doing my scheduled time and applying for unemployment….that’s retaliation.

This must be what quiet quitting is.

But it’s going to become a loud lawsuit.

I have a list of discriminatory practices I’m sure the EEOC would love to know about. Pictures for the health department and of course can’t forget the labor board for my employee rights.

This sounds petty and like a lot but I’m tired of watching businesses get away with shit because everyone is afraid.

I’m not afraid.

I’m angry.

So if they ask if I’m angry today.

Yes, yes I am.
