In Monument to a Marriage, Patricia Cronin disrupts the cemetery. Installed ‘for eternity’ in New York’s necropolis, Cronin and her partner lie entwined upon a modern mattress among the memorials to the partners in and products of state sanctioned heterosexuality. By taking anticipatory revenge, Cronin out-manouevres the reality that she and her partner, Deborah Kass, could not be recognized as a family in the eyes of the American state at the time the work was made. “If I can’t have it in life,” says Cronin, “I’m going to have it in death.”

not to write another dissertation about fun home tours de-butching of alison bechdel but

im still mad about it

beth malone in the broadway version of fun home had a simple red ringer tee, no jewelry, a sensible haircut, and i couldnt find a good clear picture that shows her pants, but they were loose and comfortable black jeans and possibly even mens pants. this outfit fit the character and looked like something alison bechdel would actually wear. now………

they changed her shirt to be this weird possibly chiffon stripey monstrosity, unbuttoned to show a camisole, covered by a weird athletic jacket type thing, gave her fitted jeans, and a necklace. and earrings. and i cant find the pic again but one of the understudies has a ponytail. this is truly an insult as i have never met or seen such an unfashionable butch..i want to know why its acceptable for them to add/change so many details that really change the vibe of the character. there was nothing wrong with the broadway costume, in fact i think it was iconic to the character. they didnt change anyone else’s costuming, at least not like this. i want to know if theyre doing it to make the show more palatable to the masses. i want to know why i have to suffer this.. i miss beth “butch is a beautiful thing” malone so much
