What if I don’t want to watch the people I know and care about change and shift into a caricature of the people they hang out with? Like can I just…not? Can they just not? Nothing is rooting me to the ground while they take on the same mannerisms that left me standing three steps behind just trying to match the pace of people who forgot I was there. Can’t I just not care when they sit next to them, and another sits between us as if we’ve never met before. I should be allowed to just ignore when I realize someone isn’t talking to me. So can I just…not watch? Close my eyes and not see them transform, a werewolf of conformity fueled by friendships of convenience? I think that would work better.
