âThis is a bad idea!â
âItâs gonna be fine, just follow my lead.â
What was meant to be a normal night turned into a little adventure when you realized there was a gala in town. You had a way in and were excited to go despite your little sisterâs protest. She was rightfully worried, but you knew it would be fun.
âY/n, this isnât just some random gala! Military personnel will be present, what if we get caught and arrested!?â
âItâs gonna be fine, Misu. I already saw it.â
âBullshit. It doesnât work like that.â
âSometimes it does.â
You were both dressed appropriately for the night, so now it was a matter of getting through the front door. A gala was invite only, so there was a guest list to follow, but as long as your name was there you were good.
âHello, weâre the Vermeer sisters. Itâs just the two of us tonight, I hope weâre not too late.â
âVermeer⊠yes, right here. The partyâs only been going on for a while, I say youâre right on time.â The guard moved aside the red rope. âEnjoy your evening ladies.â
âThank you.â
You smiled brightly at your sister as you took her hand and led her inside. The hard part was over so now you could just enjoy the gala.
âYouâre crazy.â Misu whispered. âWhat if the real Vermeerâs show up?â
âThey wonât. Come one, letâs get some drinks.â
The place was decorated beautifully, and you had to stare in awe for a moment. You saw the banner on the wall, seeing this whole thing was for the armed forces, which explained why the military was present. You werenât worried about that though, just wanting to enjoy the night. You made it over to the bar, getting yourself a good drink and enjoying the view.
âOkay, so we made it, and things are nice, but why did you even want to come here?â
âCause I wanna feel like someone else. A wealthy heiress, a ditzy rich girl, anyone but the freak I really amâŠâ
âItâs a gift.â
âPeople hate me for it and call me crazy. If itâs a gift Iâd like to return it.â
âAt least itâs good for you. We wouldnât be here tonight without it.â
âI guess there are some benefits.â
Besides the drinks there was free food to enjoy. It was easy to keep to yourselves as there were a lot of people, but sooner or later someone was bound to speak to you. Neither of you could have guessed how.
âExcuse me.â A young soldier approached, clearly nervous. âMight I ask you to dance with me.â
The soldier held his hand out to your sister. She glanced over at you with wide eyes and you nodded in approval, she should certainly make the most of her night. Misu took the manâs hand and was escorted to the dance floor. You watched with a smile, glad she was going to enjoy herself. Although you wouldnât be alone for long.
âMay I have this dance?â
Another soldier seemed to appear from nowhere, offering you their hand. You werenât gonna say no, so you accepted and went to the dance floor. They were certainly quite the gentleman, and very handsome as well.
âYou look lovely tonight, missâŠ?â
âY/n, you may call me y/n.â
âAnd what do you do in your spare time?â
âAh, what a question, yet I donât even have your name, sir.â
âGeneral Bang, but you may call me Chan.â
âWonderful. Then might I ask, Chan, whatâs it like being a general?â
âItâs rough, but we protect those who cannot protect themselves.â
âVery noble.â
Before the conversation could continue you were interrupted. Another in uniform came up to Chan, whispering in his ear. You couldnât make anything out, but since Chan let go of your hand and waist, you figured this dance was over.
âIâm afraid I must excuse myself, apologies for not finishing the dance.â
âItâs alright, Iâm sure youâre busy.â
âI do hope we meet again. Have a good night, miss y/n.â
âYou too, General Bang.â
You watch the two go, returning over to the bar and looking for your sister. Thatâs when you saw her heading your way, realizing her dance partner had also departed.
âSo, how was your dance partner?â
âVery shy, he could barely keep eye contact. His name is Jisung.â
âLet me guess, you two got interrupted.â
âDid the same happen to you?â
âYup. It was nice while it lasted. I need to use the ladies room.â
You finished up the drink you had and went off with your sister close behind. It was getting late so it was probably best to head out soon. You fixed yourself up but as you stepped out of the ladies room you suddenly came to a stop. Your vision blurred and you started to get dizzy. A gunshot rang out and you screamed, covering your ears and crouching down. Your sister was already at your side asking what was wrong, and that told you the truth. Despite the blur in your vision images of Chan flashed through your mind, followed by splatters of blood, and then you saw a pile of bodies. You would have collapsed to the floor if your sister didnât keep you up.
âY/n, can you hear me? Whatâs going on?â
â⊠chanâŠâ
âWhat?â
âHeâs gonna die⊠heâll get shot and⊠and⊠if he dies⊠there will be so many bodiesâŠâ
âY/n, what are you talking about? Whoâs Chan and-â
âWe need to find him.â
âY/n-â
âHeâs the one I was dancing with, heâs a general, we need to find him now!â
âAre you sure about this? I mean, if heâs a general, then death surrounds him. Maybe you saw him die on the field, and, well, you canât do much to change that.â
âItâs not about that, Misu! I didnât see him on the battlefield. So he must die elsewhere and if he dies, so many more will. I donât know why, but I need to warn him.â
You had no real leads so all you could do was ask others. You looked for other people in uniforms, asking about General Bang and his whereabouts, but no one was really taking you seriously or listening. The men just tried to ask for your name and offer a dance, but that was the last thing you cared about.Â
âY/n, you are gonna draw attention if you just keep asking people.â
âI donât care if I look crazy, this is serious!â
Of course your actions caused a scene and you wound up escorted out of the venue. You kept asking though, not caring for your image. At this point Misu was very embarrassed, but all she could do was stay by your side. Youâd likely be a topic of discussion after the gala, but even outside you kept asking until someone took pity on you. Another girl from the event heading out told you that Chan was stationed at a base up north just outside the city. You thanked her profusely, and she merely wished you luck, likely thinking you were love sick, but that didnât matter. With a location confirmed you hailed down a cab and felt a bit relieved once you were on your way.
âSo⊠what are you going to tell him? If itâs the truth, youâre gonna sound crazy.â
âGoing to his base in the middle of the night after sharing half a dance is already crazy, so thereâs no point in worrying about that. Iâll just be honest⊠and hope for the best.â
When you arrived at the base you thanked the cab driver and began to look around. You were unfamiliar with military bases, so you knew you had to be careful. Since it was late into the night it was easy to find where people were. One of the buildings close by had their lights on, so you made your way over there. You started banging on the door, calling out for anyone. Your sister was certainly embarrassed, but she just let you be. After a moment the door opened, an unfamiliar soldier staring at you, very confused.
âIâm looking for General Bang, I was told heâs at this base.â
âLady, do you have any idea-â
âThis is important, I need to speak with him.â
âYou canât just-â
âWhatâs going on out here?â
While talking with the soldier at the door another appeared, and this one was familiar. It was the gentlemen who had interrupted your dance with Chan earlier in the night.
âYou know where Chan is! Please, I need to find him and speak with him.â
âWait, you? How did you- nevermind, you canât be here.â
âItâs an emergency, please.â
âYou need to leave, come on now.â
The gentleman stepped out, trying to escort you off base, using his phone to call a cab. You still tried to reason with him, but then you stumbled, feeling dizzy once more. He stopped you from falling, his voice becoming muffled and distant. Then you heard a gunshot.
âChan!â
The same images from before flashed through your mind but there was something new. You saw a building in the dark, except it was somewhat familiar. When you came back to your senses you looked around, seeing that same building. Without hesitation you ran over, banging on the door and screaming for Chan. At this point you were just running on instinct and fear. You heard voices behind you, certainly the soldiers trying to get you to stop, but you didnât care.
âWhat is all the commotion.â
From around the corner someone else appeared, Chan. Relief washed over you as you finally found him.
âYouâre alright!â
âOh, itâs you, how did you find me?â
âIt doesnât matter. Look, this is going to sound crazy, but your life is in danger. Someone is trying to kill you, and-â
âKill me? Have you forgotten about the uniform I wear? My life is always in danger.â
âIâm serious, someone is out to kill you and if they-â
You cut yourself off when you heard a gunshot again. You panic and look over Chan but heâs fine, then new images flash before your eyes. You see yourself exactly where you are now, except youâre on the ground holding Chan, covered in blood. It happens here, it happens now. You return to your senses still panicked, looking around, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Without knowing what else to do you switch positions with Chan.
âWhat are you doing?â
âI donât know, I just know it happens here and-â
It was so quiet, impossibly quiet. You didnât know how to explain yourself, but at this point you didnât need to. Your vision grew hazy once more, but it wasnât followed by images flashing before your eyes or the horrid sound of a gunshot. Instead you felt this pain in your chest bloom. Your body gave out from underneath you and you collapsed into Chanâs arms. Muffled voices faded in and out while your vision began to grow dark. You werenât entirely sure what was happening, but you couldnât do anything to stop yourself from slipping into the void.
đ€
âWhat the fuck happened!?â
Chan barely had a chance to process what was going on when you suddenly collapsed, then he noticed the blood. He screamed for the others, carrying you in his arms and rushing you over to their medical center.
âI donât know, we were talking and then she collapsed.â Chan explained. âI vaguely heard a noise but then I smelled blood.â
âWhat were you talking about?â
âShe was talking nonsense, and said someone was trying to kill me.â
âThen she got shot, so she was right.â
âNo. Even if I got shot I wouldnât have died.â
âChanâŠâ
âWhat?â
âLook.â
The bullet hadnât gone through, but luckily missed anything vital. The first thing that needed to be done was digging out the bullet, and once they had it everyone got worried. Chan looked over, and despite the blood there was an unmistakable shine.
âSilver.â
âShe definitely saved your life.â
âNow the question is how did she know?â
When everything went down Misu was taken to a room nearby, waiting with the soldier she had met at the gala. Jisung assured her that her sister would be alright. As they waited Chan came into the room with two others.
âHowâs y/n?â Misu asked. âIs she alright?â
âYes, yes, Jeongin got the bullet out, and it missed anything vital.â Chan mentioned. âYour sister will be fine.â
âThank goodness.â
âSo I have to ask you then.â
âHuh?â
âYou and your sister came here to warn me about someone trying to kill me, and she takes the bullet in my place. How did you know about this?â
âI⊠uh⊠itâs not easy to explain⊠and I donât know if youâll believe meâŠâ
âTry me.â
âMy sister⊠sheâs clairvoyant.â
âWhat?â
âShe has visions of the future⊠but it comes to her in pieces and she canât control what she sees or when⊠itâs been that way since she was a kid. At first people thought it was child nonsense, but as she got older⊠people grew to hate her, calling her crazy and some kind of freak⊠she tries to live a quiet life but her visions arenât always nice⊠they seem kind of painful too, and she did try to help people but⊠they never listen, and the think sheâs crazy or creepy⊠although tonight has been very weirdâŠâ
âHow so?â
âShe had a vision on how to get into the gala⊠then she met you and saw your death⊠that vision repeated itself over and over, itâs never happened before, and she actually saved you, sheâs never really managed to change someoneâs fate before.â
âI see⊠but who wants me dead?â
âI have no idea, but my sister said that if you died, there would be so many more deaths. Thatâs why she was so persistent. Iâm sorry for the trouble sheâs caused.â
âDonât apologize. I owe her my life. She wasnât the intended target tonight, thatâs why sheâs alive, but I doubt this is over. Changbin.â
âYes, sir?â
âPrepare to head out. Once the girl is stable weâre leaving this base, itâs compromised.â
âUnderstood.â
âYouâll be coming with of course, miss?â
âMisu, my name is Misu.â
âWeâll leave as soon as we can, so stick with Jisung for now.â
âI will.â
Once you were stable everyone was on the move. The trip was quiet, rather long, but everyone was on alert. As the sun began to rise they arrived at a safe house. The place was much more remote, and smaller. After everyone was settled in he got an update. You were alright and should be waking up soon. On top of that Chan told the others he gave different safe house locations to others, so if they had a traitor theyâd know. Although given the fact it was a silver bullet, no one really thought one of their own was the problem.
đ€
You slowly regained consciousness, feeling as if you were coming down from the clouds and landing on the ground. Except the ground was soft and you felt something warm draped over you. When you tried to move though pain shot down through your body. You began to remember what happened, and panic began to take over.
âChan! Chan!â
Moments later the door opened, Chan rushing in. He was alive, and relief immediately washed over you.
âYouâre alive⊠youâre aliveâŠâ You laid back down. âThank goodness.â
âYeah, Iâm okay thanks to you.â Chan cleared his throat, coming to your bedside. âAlthough I must ask, do you know who tried to kill me?â
âI⊠I donât know⊠itâs hard to explainâŠâ
âYour sister already explained to me about your⊠abilities. You foresaw my death, and apparently if I die many more will too.â
âI donât know why⊠Iâve never had visions like this beforeâŠâ
âPerhaps itâs because youâre not the only one with a secret.â
âWhat do you mean?â
You always thought you were alone, but today you found out that wasnât the case. Chanâs eyes began to glow a crimson red, and you saw sharp fangs poking out from his mouth.
âYou⊠youâre⊠a werewolfâŠ? I⊠I thought those were mythsâŠâ
âI never knew someone could see the future.â
âSo Iâm not aloneâŠâ
âFar from it. The rest of my boys are also like me, theyâre my pack.â
âWowâŠâ
âWhich means whoever tried to kill me knows what I am. The bullet you took for me was silver. If it was a regular bullet I would have survived, and the killer knew that.â
âOhâŠâ
âCan you tell me anything else from your visions?â
âI canât control it, and theyâve never been this persistent before. Iâm sorry.â
âThatâs fine. Iâm grateful you saved my life, but I donât want you putting yourself in danger for my sake. I know thereâs a threat around me now, so Iâll take care of it.â
âBut I canât let you die.â
âI admire your courage, but this danger surrounds me, it shouldnât affect you at all.â
âLots of people will die if you do. This affects more than me, than you, than us.â
âI get that, but I donât want you to get hurt because of me again. You could have died that night, and I would never forgive myself.â
âChan, youâre not the one putting me in danger. I had visions, I got involved, this has always been my choice. My visions could help you catch this killer, and that puts me in the line of fire regardless. You know this.â
âFine.â Chan sighed. âI know you can still help, but I donât want you jumping into danger again. Iâll protect you okay, so just tell me what you see in your visions, Iâll handle the rest. Deal?â
âDeal.â
âOkay, then get some rest.â
You could rest easy knowing Chan was safe, but you werenât sure if the threat was over. So much had happened so fast, and you were still processing your own actions. Your visions had never been so consistent, or powerful, but knowing about Chan, you were starting to get an idea. You werenât really human, and neither was he, so maybe that had something to do with it. Of course you had no idea where you were now, but it didnât matter, you needed to rest above all else. Your sister did come check in on you and helped you as you recovered. The bullet wound still ached, but you were slowly healing. Once you could be out of bed you explored this safe house. It was cozy and had all the essentials. You also got to know the rest of Chanâs squad, and thanked them all for looking after you and your sister.
While you were healing you were also trying to get another vision about Chan. You wanted to be sure things were okay. The lack of visions could be a good sign, but you couldnât fully trust it. You were injured, maybe that messed you up. The real problem though was that you had never tried to control your visions, so you werenât sure what you needed to do. So you moved cautiously, trying to keep close to Chan to see if maybe proximity could trigger something. Every now and then you tried to touch him too. Placing your hand over his, tugging on his clothes to get attention. It never seemed to work, and of course he wasnât blind to your actions. You were acting like some lost puppy, which he found amusing, but he knew there was something else going on.
âWhat exactly are you trying to do here?â
You were cooking with Chan, watching him cut up some vegetables. When you thought he cut himself you panicked and grabbed his hand to examine it. You had ulterior motives for sure, but were also worried about him getting hurt. He called you out immediately though.
âHuh?â
âYouâve been lingering around me a lot lately, not to mention touchy.â
âI⊠uhâŠâ
âIs everything okay?â
âYeah⊠I just⊠Iâm trying to get a vision⊠I havenât seen anything since that day⊠so I donât know if youâre safe or not⊠I need to know how to control this, and if there was ever a time to figure it out, itâs now.â
âI get that, but you shouldnât be trying to force a vision. I am capable of keeping you and myself safe at a momentâs notice.â
âStill, I have this lingering feeling⊠itâs ominous⊠and I just want to know for sure that everythingâs okayâŠâ
âI have people looking into this as well. Just cause you donât have a vision doesnât mean nothing is happening. You trust me, right?â
âI do.â
âThen just focus on your recovery, I can handle the rest.â
You knew that to a degree Chan was right, but you were still going to worry, you couldnât help it. You did at least stop trying to force a vision, you could have been inadvertently preventing one the whole time. So you shifted to just focusing on yourself. The wound had more or less healed, and it seemed a scar wouldnât be left behind. For the most part things seemed peaceful and you were starting to relax, but thatâs when you finally got another vision. You were in bed, drifting off into sleep when fire began to fill your vision. You heard shouting and screaming, seeing Chan on the floor and bleeding out, surrounded by flames. You collapsed out of bed, scrambling to your feet and running out to find Chan. Even if it was late, he would likely be awake.
âChan! Chan!â
You ran over to his office, bursting in and finding him at his desk. He seemed surprised, but understood you wouldnât just show up without good reason at these hours.
âWhatâs wrong?â
âThis place is compromised. I saw a fire, and you⊠you⊠we need to leave immediately.â
âAlright, alright, Iâll let the others know right away. Go to your sister and-â
âNo, no, Iâm not leaving your side.â
âY/n, we are getting ahead of this, but I need to make sure youâre safe first and foremost.â
âBut-â
âPlease, donât argue with me on this.â
âFine, just, be cautious.â
âI will. Go now, we need to move fast.â
You didnât want to leave Chan, but youâd likely be in his way if you did. The sooner you got your sister and your things, the sooner youâd leave this place. When you got to your sisterâs room you gently woke her, telling her to grab her things. She didnât question you and just did as you asked. A while later Jisung and Changbin came to get you both, escorting you to the transport vehicle. The night was quiet, but that wasnât necessarily a good thing. You were loading up your bag when you suddenly collapsed. Changbin caught you and laid you down as you started seizing. They were panicking but your sister assured them youâd be alright. This was just what happened when it came to your visions.
The fire was raging, Chan was still unconscious on the floor, bleeding out, but this time there was more. You saw a map on the wall, not recognizing it at all, then you were seeing this place up in flames from a distance. Once all that was over with you began to calm down, catching your breath and staring up at the night sky. The last time you had visions this close together Chan almost got shot. You had a bad feeling, and then the earth shook beneath you. An explosion had gone off, and when you looked over you saw smoke rising. The fire was happening now. You jumped to your feet only for Jisung to hold you back.
âLet me go! I need to find Chan!â
âYouâll be in danger.â
âI donât care!â
âHe does! We have orders to keep you safe, and that means you stay here.â
No one was going to let you go looking for Chan, so you just had to wait anxiously. The others radioed in with Changbin, and showed up later, but someone was painfully absent.Â
âWhereâs Chan!?â
âI⊠I donât knowâŠâ
âFuck, fuck⊠uh⊠um⊠a map!â
âHuh?â
âI saw a map in my vision, but I didnât recognize it at all. Does that mean anything to you?â
âA map?â Hyunjin questioned. âNear Chan?â
âIâm not sure⊠but Chan has to be here somewhere!â
âI think thereâs a map in the underground bunker.â
âHow do you get in there?â
âThereâs a way in through the lounge, but that building is where the explosion occurred.â
âIs there another way in?â
âAt the back of the building, but the fire is spreading.â
âWe have to save him!â
âWeâll go, you stay here.â
âNo, no, thereâs something else.â
âWhat?â
âI saw this place on fire from a distance. It doesnât make sense, but I think someone is here, watching, maybe theyâre the culprits.â
âWhere did you see them?â
âUhâŠâ You looked around, trying to find something familiar. âThere. I saw this building, so those lurking should be in that direction.â
It seemed the boys would need to split up. Some would go investigate the potential culprits, others to rescue Chan, and the rest to look after you and your sister. Although you didnât stay to hear the verdict. Once you said what you needed to you ran, slipping past the others. Even though you hadnât seen a pile of bodies, you didnât want Chan to die regardless. You knew what the entrance to a bunker should look like, and once you found it you tried to open it, but there was a chain. You looked around for a rock, smashing in the lock until it broke. When you opened the door a wave of hot air and smoke hit you. It was dangerous to go in, but you had to find him. You took a deep breath and pulled up your shirt to cover your mouth, heading in.
âChan!â
The fire had spread down here. It was unbearably hot, but you pushed through. The space down here couldnât be that big, and you felt it deep down that he was here.
âChan!â
You coughed violently, inhaling some smoke despite your best efforts. Then you saw him. Chan was lying on the floor with a bloody injury on his head. You rushed over to his side, trying to shake him awake, but he was unresponsive. Either way neither of you could stay down here. You grabbed Chanâs arm, pulling him to sit up, and getting his arm around your shoulder. You used all your strength to get up with Chan, but he was heavier than anticipated.
âCome on⊠please, please⊠you canât die⊠you canât⊠leave me alone⊠not now⊠now that Iâve found someone else different like meâŠâ
You collapsed to the ground with Chan, coughing aggressively once more. You tried to crawl, but there was no strength left in you. It felt like the end, but you saw a blur of something approaching, faint voices in the distance. You let yourself believe everything would be okay, even if you didnât know for sure, before slipping into darkness.
đ€
â⊠chanâŠâ
You groggily regained consciousness, not recognizing your surroundings. That was the least of your concerns though, you just needed to know if Chan was okay, if he was alive. You forced yourself up, trying to get your senses together.
âYou better stay in bed.â
You heard the door open and looked over to see Seungmin coming in, bringing along a tray of food. He set it down and helped you sit up, resting against the headboard.
â⊠chan⊠chan⊠is he-â
âHeâs fine, as are you, we all are.â
âI need⊠to see him.â
âHeâs resting, just like you need to.â
âBut-â
âHeâs okay, heâs alive, and weâre all grateful for that.â
âWhat happened?â
âAn explosive device had been set at our location, Chan was the closest one to it.â
âDid you find the people responsible?â
âYes. Right where you said they would be. Hunters.â
âHunters?â
âWerewolf hunters. Not sure how they discovered us, but they wonât bother us again. Chan should be truly safe now.â
You had been told that before but this time was different. There wasnât a vision to confirm it, but that ominous feeling from before was gone. Now you could relax and rest easy knowing you saved someone, a lot of someones actually.
âI want to see Chan.â
âYou stay here and rest. Chan will come see you when he can. Okay?â
âFine.â
You ate what Seungmin had brought you, thanking him for everything he had done for you and your sister. You figured things would finally settle down and your life could return to normal, but that was easier said than done. A few nights after the whole incident you had a dream, or vision, you honestly couldnât be quite sure. All you could remember was darkness, and heat, and Chan repeating your name over and over again. When you snapped out of it you jumped up in bed. You werenât sure what to make of what you had just seen, but regardless you needed to find Chan.
âMisu, do you know where Chan is?â
You stepped out into the hall, going into the room next door where your sister was. She was asleep, and you felt bad waking her, but this wasnât gonna leave you alone anytime soon.
âSis⊠what is itâŠ?â
âI havenât seen Chan, would you know what room he is in?â
âHm⊠I think heâs down the hall⊠to the left⊠all the way at the end⊠is everything okay?â
âThatâs what I need to check. Go back to sleep.â
âOkayâŠâ
You quietly made your way out of the room and followed the directions you were given. When you came to the room you tried to open the door, but you found it locked. You were about to knock when you heard a crash, getting worried. You tried the door again, more frantic this time, then knocked aggressively.
âChan! Chan, are you in there!?â
You didnât get a response, so you kept trying to get in. You were about to run off and get help when you heard a slap against the door. You jumped back and froze.
âChanâŠâ
âIâm fine⊠promise, just go back to your room.â
âAre you sure?â
âYeah. Iâm good.â
âLet me see you.â
âNowâs not a good time. Tomorrow, okay?â
âItâs been days, Iâve waited patiently, but I need to know youâre okay.â
âI am, so go back to bed.â
âOpen the door, Chan.â
âJust go back to bed.â
âChan, Iâm worried about you.â
âIâm fine.â
âYeah, but I had a vision, or something, and you were saying my name over and over, I need to see you.â
âPlease just go back to your room.â
âChan, Iâm not leaving. You need my help or something, I know it, so let me in.â
âItâs not what you thinkâŠâ
âThen let me see you with my own eyes.â
You heard the door click, relief washing over you. After taking a breath you let Chan know you were coming in, slowly opening the door and stepping inside. The lights were off in his room, but after a moment you adjusted to the darkness. You didnât see Chan though, moving closer to the bed, but he wasnât there. You were confused, and then you yelled as the door behind you slammed shut, and then you heard it lock.
â⊠chanâŠ?â
You slowly turned around, seeing Chan by the door. He was hunched over, hand on the door, breathing heavily. He did not look okay at all.
âChan? Whatâs wrong? You-â
âYou need to work on interpreting your visionsâŠâ
âHuh?â
âYou were right⊠I do need you⊠but not how you thinkâŠâ
âWhat are you talking about?â
Chan slowly looked up, and you saw crimson red eyes staring back at you. Before you could even freak out he rushed at you, pinning you beneath him on the bed. In an instant his lips were on you, kissing you deeply and desperately.
âChan⊠Chan⊠what are you⊠ChanâŠâ
âYou were so persistent about being in my life.â Chan growled. âSo how could I possibly resist you? Especially when my left meant so much to you.
You were still processing Chanâs words when he began ripping off your clothes. Although you were starting to get an idea as to what this need really was. Chan was stronger than you, as he was proving in the moment, so trying to fight him wouldnât really work. Not that you really wanted to. You werenât entirely sure what was going on with him, but you didnât mind his touch. Once he had gotten you out of your clothes, leaving you in your undergarments, he was trailing his lips along your body, making you shiver with every wet kiss he left behind. It wasnât long before he got out of his own clothes, showing you all of him. He was already pretty, but this was just a nice view.
â⊠ChanâŠâ
âDo you want me to stop?â
âNo.â
âGood.â
Chan leaned in to kiss you once again, his hands on your thighs, pushing your legs apart. You were nervous, but not unwilling. His fingers slowly inched closer and closer to your center, making you whimper into the kiss. He seemed to like that as you could feel his smile. His fingers ran up along your center, ever so slightly pushing against your panties. You were wet, just a bit, but enough for him to get to work. It wasnât hard to rip off your panties, his digits against your sensitive flesh making you shiver. What you werenât expecting was his lack of patience. Now that he had you here, knowing you were eager for him too, he went all in. Two fingers slipped in at once, working you over and stretching you out with a bit of desperation. By then you had your hands on Chan, holding onto him for stability.
He was good, and when a third slipped in you started moving your hips. You wanted more, and he was complying. He worked you over, finding that sweet spot so pretty noises spilled out of your mouth. Still, he could only do so much. There was a hunger in his eyes as he watched you, and he was ready to feast. It happened so fast. One moment you were grinding against his fingers, then they were gone, and something else was rubbing against you. Without seeing anything you knew it was bigger than his fingers. It was slippery, and Chan was whimpering before you felt him push in. You threw your head back as you felt him enter, little by little, filling you up. He didnât stop until every bit was in, the two of you fully connected. You held him tightly, not able to articulate anything, but just needing a moment to adjust.
He was kind enough to give you a second before he started moving. Chan did try to show some restraint, teasing and going slow at first, but he couldnât deny his own beastly instincts. He was rough and brutal, but you welcomed it with open arms. No one had ever made you feel like this, and you were sure no one else ever could. Your body signalled him as you got close to climax. Your grip on him got tighter, your moans kept getting louder and louder, and he could hear how your heart raced for him. He liked you like this and he was definitely going to keep you. The night was far from over and he was far from done with you. By the time he finished with you, youâd be nothing but a beautiful mess just for him.
đ€
Silence. It was oddly quiet when you woke up the next morning, but you werenât alone. You found yourself wrapped up in someoneâs arms, realizing your naked bodies were pressed against each other. You slowly looked up, seeing that Chan was sound asleep. Or so you thought.
âYou gonna keep staring?â
âHuh!? How long have you been awake?â
âA bit, but I wasnât going to wake you.â
âWell, we can get up now that weâre both up.â
âNo, wait.â As you tried to get up Chan pulled you closer. âItâs too early to get up, so letâs just stay like this for a while longer.â
âChan⊠last nightâŠâ
âI went a little overboard⊠I told you to leave.â
âIâm not saying I regret it, but you⊠what was up with you?â
âItâs a werewolf thing. We can talk about that later, but I want to ask, have you had any more visions? Outside of last night.â
âNo, I havenât, and that feeling that something bad was gonna happen has gone away too.â
âThatâs good. We dealt with the hunter, so it sounds like that problem is dealt with.â
âIâm just glad youâre okay, really.â
âMe too.â Chan kissed your head. âCan I ask something of you?â
âWhat?â
âWhenever you have a vision, tell me about it, perhaps we can do some good together.â
âActually doing something with my visions is difficult.â
âYet you changed my fate, twice in fact. Maybe together we can do it.â
âIâm just happy I actually managed to save you, and that I found someone special along the way.â

âWell, arenât you marvelous.â
You were curled up in the corner of a dark and cold cell when you heard a voice. You looked up to see a hooded figure standing on the other side of the bars. You had no idea who they were, or when they got in here, but if they were allowed in they must be someone important.
âCome here.â
You had a feeling that you shouldnât disobey, so you carefully approached, sitting on your knees before this individual. The stranger knelt down and reached across the bars, their hand ghosting over bits of your body. You knew what they were staring at. Scales decorated your skin sporadically, making you look like some kind of reptile.
âLook at me.â
That you really didnât want to do, but once again you felt like there wasnât a choice. You slowly looked up, revealing the matching monstrous eyes, one red and the other white.
âTruly beautiful.â
ââŠâ
âYou must be cold.â
The stranger took their coat off, and you saw the man beneath. He got the coat through the bars and wrapped it around you tightly.
âThe cold wonât kill you, but it can be unbearable.â
Without another word the man left, and you werenât sure what to make of that whole encounter. The coat was nice though, as it was rather cold down here, but it would be a temporary comfort. Still, you returned to your corner and made yourself as small as possible. Guilt still weighed heavily on you because of what had happened. Yesterday was supposed to be a joyous occasion, yet it was the exact opposite. You were the daughter of the coven leader, and your family had always been extraordinary. The women in your lineage were witches, but they were born without any magic of their own. It wasnât necessarily something shameful, but created a beautiful tradition. There was magic in your family, but it was something that was passed down between mother and daughter. With every generation the magic would grow stronger and stronger, which is how your family came to lead the coven.Â
It was your turn to take on the title, and inherit your power, once you were of age. The whole coven gathered for the ceremony. Transferring magic was never easy, but that day things went so wrong so fast. When you felt the magic flow into your veins it burned, and you screamed in agony. You could have believed this was meant to happen, but you werenât told beforehand. Not to mention the rest of the coven was confused. You collapsed to the ground, screaming and thrashing around. Then black smoke began to emanate from certain parts of your body, as if your skin was burning away and revealing the scales underneath. Your eyes even changed color, becoming so inhuman. Since no one knew what happened you were merely locked up and left alone. Your body had settled down after a while, but you were quite cold.Â
There was no one around, so you were just left to wonder why everything had gone so poorly. Your mother had told you of the ritual, as had your grandmother. It wasnât supposed to happen that way, yet it did. You had scales on your body now, your eyes were monstrous, this had to be some kind of curse. Although you didnât understand why it had fallen upon you. Your coven was not a bad one, your family were not bad people, but you were being punished nonetheless. Of course your mother had tried to take the magic back, but she couldnât. This power could only be given and not taken. This led to the rest of the coven growing fearful of you, saying you were a bad omen. They wanted you dead, but the magic would be lost if that happened, so something else had to be done.
Your magic would be extracted from you, and that would certainly be painful. From there your mother would try again with another child. It hurt knowing you were going to be discarded so easily and then replaced. At the same time though, you didnât really want to live like this. So when the day arrived you went quietly with those sent to collect you. They chained you up and took you to the center of town. You kept your head down the whole time, too ashamed to see anyone. This wouldnât be easy to watch, and it wouldnât be easy to endure, but once over your end would be quick. You wanted to apologize for the failure you were, but such words were meaningless. The best you could do now to atone was to give back the magic and die. So you closed your eyes and waited for the end, except it never came. Instead you heard gasps and murmurs in the crowd.
âYou cannot take what does not belong to you, not anymore, and not ever again.â
You opened your eyes and looked to the crowd, seeing a rather familiar face. The man from before, your only visitor, was present. It was clear this person was a stranger to the coven, and as they slowly approached others stepped aside. They had a cocky grin on their face, seeming to hold a secret no one else did.
âWho are you?â The coven head asked. âHow dare you show up uninvited and interrupt-â
The man chuckled. âIf you donât know who I am, then youâve been left incredibly unprepared.â
âPardon?â
âShall I enlighten you?â
âI do not care for your story.â
âOh it is not mine, but yours. A long, long, long, long time ago one of your ancestors was unable to bear a child. Yet magic could always provide solutions. The only problem there was that they were not powerful enough. So that little witch had to look elsewhere. Of course instead of seeking out help and making a fair deal they sought to take what they needed. Along their journey the witch stumbled upon a young naga, imprisoning the poor creature and taking every last drop of its power. Once having bled them dry the naga was discarded, left to rot and die in nature. Now the witch had enough power, and could have a child as they always dreamed.â
âYou are speaking nonsense!â
âAm I? Does this not sound familiar at all? You see, despite everything that witch only ever had one child, a daughter. A witch born without magic of her own, a consequence of birthing a child that was not meant to be. Alas, magic can provide solutions. The witch could give her magic to her daughter, so that she may grow up to be a proper witch of her own. Thus a little tradition began. In this lineage, only one child would be born per generation, always a girl, always without magic, so power had to be transferred from mother to daughter. A little sad, but it did have such a wonderful side effect. With each generation the magic would grow stronger and stronger, allowing the witches from this bloodline to be incredibly powerful from such a young age. What a wonderful gift, donât you think? Except thatâs not really the case, it never was.â
âYou are no one to speak on my family! I know my history, and you speak lies!â
âI donât know what lie you were told, but I promise you my words are the truth. You see, that little naga did not die that day, nor did it forget. It had to grow and cultivate its own power from scratch once more, yet it remained incomplete. As if something was missing, a part of their very essence strangely absent. Then it all made sense. It was the power of the naga that allowed a child to be born, and that power was passed on from one generation to the next. The magic that was growing stronger with each generation was not the power of a witch, but a naga.â
âWhat are you talking about!?â
âYou all know as well as I do that magic has rules, and balance needs to be maintained. To steal power from another, such actions have consequences, severe ones. That witch took what did not belong to them and created something that was not supposed to exist. Such a debt is to be repaid tenfold, donât you agree? Thatâs why the girl you hold in chains is not a witch, but a naga herself. Born from stolen power, and the method of repayment.â The man laughed darkly. âDespite that wretched witchâs efforts and desires, in the end her lineage will cease to exist, and I get back what was stolen from me.â
âLiar! All youâve said are lies! You know nothing about my family!â
âIt doesnât matter whether you believe me or not. This coven of yours will burn.â
An explosion suddenly rocked the town, a ball of fire appearing in the distance, then another and another. A coven was protected by the magic of its people, yet the stranger was able to cause destruction so easily. That meant they were powerful, and incredibly dangerous. The coven immediately scattered to protect their home, but it wouldnât be that easy. Giant serpents engulfed in flames appeared from the raging fire, attacking their surroundings and causing further destruction. Then one of those flaming serpents attacked the coven head. In the chaos you collapsed to the ground, still chained up and not knowing what to do. Despite the fires burning all around, you still felt cold, and you tried to make yourself small.
âYou wonât be cold anymore.â
When you heard a calm voice speak you slowly looked up to see the stranger standing before you. He knelt down, reaching over to caress your face. His touch was oddly warm.
âWho⊠who are youâŠ?â
âYour master, your maker, your other half, or more accurately, yours, as you are mine.â
As he spoke a black mist suddenly circled around the stranger, revealing a snake skin suit, and different eyes, similar to yours.
âWhat a wonderful gift for us.â
The chains on you suddenly broke and fell away as you were pulled in closer by the stranger. Before you knew it their lips were pressed against yours. What began as a soft kiss grew deeper as you leaned into it. There was something about him that was pulling you in. An odd sense of familiarity, this feeling of comfort and peace. He felt like home, and you just didnât know it until now. You wanted more and more of him, feeling this warmth growing inside you, flowing into you from him. You didnât want to stop but he was the one who pulled away, although you were the only one breathless.
âYouâre not cold anymore, are you?âÂ
You shook your head, realizing he was right, you werenât cold anymore. He offered you a smile, helping you to your feet.
âIâm Seonghwa. Itâs nice to finally meet you.â
âI⊠Iâm y/nâŠâ
âBeautiful.â
â⊠I⊠I donât fully understand whatâs going on⊠you⊠and IâŠâ
âSh, sh, sh, itâs okay. Today is merely your birthday, a cause for celebration. In time everything else will make sense.â
âSo⊠what happens now?â
âWell, you are mine, and I will take good care of you.â Seonghwa offered you his hand. âShall we?â
There was no hesitation as you reached for Seonghwaâs hand. He smiled and pulled you close, the two of you walking together, intending to leave this burning place behind. It seemed so foreign to you now, and with each step you felt like you were shedding a piece of the old life you had. You werenât who you thought you were, but now that you were with Seonghwa you could discover who you were truly meant to be. That was quite a gift in itself, perhaps the best one for a birthday.
Prompt: With omegas completely removed from society, they needed their own communities and institutions to grow. All your life you had lived and gone to school alongside your fellow omegas, and orphaned alphas. You had managed to keep yourself together, but now at the university level, keeping your secret had grown impossible. You had to face your fears and make friends with an alpha eventually, and now was the time.
âSophomore year here we come!â
The beginning of the fall semester was exciting, it was certainly different to what you imagined it would be like back in high school. Still, you focused on your classes and your extracurriculars, but you did have something else to study. By now there wasnât much left to research in regard to scents, so it was best to look into alphas and the type of training they underwent. The basics you knew. Alphas were supposed to care for omegas in all aspects, but there wasnât much about how they went about learning that. Youâd normally ask Chan these things, but heâd likely know what you were really after.Â
There was the option to ask the other alphas in the dorm, but Chan could find out about your investigation. Then again, you could argue you were just asking normal questions. There was no harm in at least trying. With that in mind you decided to go to Seungmin. You invited him out to come to the garden with you. A relaxing hobby that would also give you some space to talk outside the dorm. Besides, you really did need to check in on the plants, so it was a win-win situation. Seungmin didnât think you had any ulterior motives either, making this the best plan.
âSeungmin.â
âHm?â
âCan I ask you something?â
âSure, whatâs up?â
âWhat are your duties? Like, what does omega care and protection mean for you?â
âWell, in regards to care, omegas are very sensitive to pheromones, so alphas need to keep control of themselves so they donât negatively affect any omegas.â
âThen⊠is it true omegas were mistreated before?â
âItâs not your fault omegas are sensitive. Back then others didnât care to learn to control themselves, and omegas suffered the worst for it.â
âYou make it sound like the real problem here are the alphas.â
âI think youâd be right. Even though alphas were also sensitive to omegas, the type of violence that occurred was unacceptable. Thatâs why the OCPD originally had betas as well.â
âWait, really? Iâve never heard anyone mention that before, and I donât think itâs in the history books eitherâŠâ
âItâs not common knowledge or relevant since theyâre no longer part of the department, but they do teach the alphas about it.â
âSo, what were betas like as agents?â
âThey served as mediators in the early years of the OCPD. Since betas werenât strongly affected by pheromones, theyâd keep the alphas in check and make sure the omegas werenât harmed.â
âThat sounds pretty important. How come there arenât any betas now?â
âAt the end of the day omegas are more obedient to alphas, thus the alphas underwent some more training to be better suited caretakers. Once that was successful, betas slowly faded out of the department.â
âWow, it kinda sucks weâre not taught this.â
âI know. Although Iâve heard rumors about betas being brought back into the department.â
âReally? Why now?â
âNo idea, thatâs if itâs true. Regardless, thatâs not something that concerns either of us.â
âThen, thatâs all care stuff, what about the protection part?â
âHonestly that was more of a thing when omegas still lived among normal society. The entire department had a duty to protect omegas until they were of age and brought to these places. Nowadays I say itâs more about care than anything else.â
âI think so too.â
You didnât get much out of Seungmin, at least not what you were looking for, but gardening together was fun. You thought about the type of questions you could ask without causing trouble, and who to ask, but something else came up first.
âWhatâs pupspace?â
The living room in the dorm was always a good study space, and thatâs where you were when Felix suddenly brought up a random question. You had no idea what he was talking about, but Changbin had some answers.
âWhere did you hear about that?â Changbin questioned.
âI saw it written down in Jeongins notes the other day, but I had forgotten about it until now.â
âThat is something us alphas are being taught about at the moment.â
âSo, what is it?â
âItâs something omegas go into when really calm and relaxed. Like the puppy instincts take over. Although itâs also said to be a defense if an omega gets too overwhelmed or stressed. Itâs not a common thing though, not too much is known about it to begin with. Omegas either slip into that space on their own depending on the circumstances or can be guided into it.â
âCan you do that?â You asked. âPut an omega into pupspace?â
âI think they want to teach us, but itâs very important to be cautious and kind when an omega is in such a state.â
âThey donât teach us about it, and itâs about us.â
âMaybe your classes just havenât gotten there.â
âThen why do you guys learn about it first?â
âWell, weâre supposed to take care of omegas, and this is-â
âItâs different from calming an omega down. Are they gonna teach you how to force an omega into that state?â
âNo. The right environment is needed for the omega, and one has to be gentle.â Changbin explained. âYou can look over my notes if you want. Iâm not trying to keep any secrets here.â
With that said you figured you had him cornered to ask about the summer training, but before the words could leave your mouth Chan came in. He asked who wanted ice cream and Felix jumped at the chance. You definitely couldnât ask what you wanted to with Chan around, so you let it go for the moment. You just needed to figure out who you could actually ask, and who would actually tell you what you wanted to know. Then the answer practically hit you on the head.
âHey, y/n, how are you?â
After a class you wound up running into Gunil. He was happy to see you, and so were you. It finally occurred to you that the best person to ask was someone outside the dorm entirely. So you asked Gunil if he wanted to join you for a study session and to catch up over your study breaks. He liked the idea and you both agreed to meet up in the library at a later date. You booked a study room for the two of you, and didnât tell the others you would be hanging out with Gunil. As far as they knew you wanted some alone time for studying. You both did work on your assignments and study, but naturally you started to talk about other things. It had been a while since you last saw each other.
âWhat did you do over the summer?â
âI took up gardening. Itâs really fun and relaxing, you should try it sometime.â
âI donât have much of a green thumb.â
âI could show you.â
âMaybe Iâll take you up on the offer.â
âWhat about you though? What did you do over the summer?â
âNot much. I still had some classes, and studying. I did some training, and I got to sleep way more.â
âOh yeah, the alphas in the dorm were gone for a bit for this summer training. How long were you gone for?â
âUh, about two weeks.â
âWhat was your training for?â
âJust basic stuff.â
âLike what?â
âStrength training, and whatnot. You could consider it like a bootcamp, but nothing too crazy you need to worry about.â
âThen, why donât you tell me what you did? What kind of training do you alphas need to go off campus for?â
âWhy do you want to know so badly?â
âWhy donât you want to tell me?â
âCause it doesnât matter.â
âSo it shouldnât matter if you tell me the truth.â
âItâs not important. Itâs just training.â
âWhat kind of training causes your scent to change?â
ââŠâ Gunil got quiet for a moment. âWhat are you talking about?â
âI know your training was supposed to be for two weeks. Some were gone longer than that, and others didnât come back at all. You know that too.â
ââŠâ
âOur scents arenât supposed to change, but they can as a result of trauma.â
You got up from your seat and slowly approached Gunil. He didnât do anything, just watched you. So he didnât reject you when you leaned in closely to breathe in his scent. Just like the others you caught a hint of that underlying numbness. Without realizing tears began to form. It hadnât truly sunk in what you were investigating, but now it was. All the alphas had gone through something major, yet they were all acting like they were just fine. You slowly stepped back, keeping your composure.
âWhat happened to you, Gunil?â
â⊠I canât answer that.â
âWhy?â
âItâs not your concern.â
âItâs not fair to keep this a secret!â
âThis isnât really some secret, itâs just that youâre the only one asking.â
âWhat?â
âThe alphas know not to talk about the summer training, and the omegas just accept the simple answer. Everyone knows the alphas undergo more training in order to be agents. Alphas take special classes, we always have, so doing some special summer training isnât out of the ordinary. This whole thing isnât some big secret to uncover cause no one else sees it that way.â
ââŠâ
âYouâre stressed and annoyed by this, I can tell, I can smell it off you, but you are doing this to yourself.â
â⊠are you going to tell me what you did in your summer trainingâŠ?â
âNo, I wonât, and no alpha ever will.â
âThen Iâll ask someone in higher authority.â
âDonât. There will be major consequences if anyone finds out youâre asking about this. Not just for you, but all the others in your dorm too.â
ââŠâ
âHave you told Jisung or Felix about what youâre doing?â
âNo. Iâm the one who figured out something was wrong, and I wasnât going to make anyone else worry.â
âY/n, you have to let this go. For your sake above all else.â
â⊠I⊠I donât think I canâŠâ
âYou need to stop. Alphas disappear from this place every now and then, but omegas can disappear too. I donât want you to vanish from my life again, but I canât see you if youâre like this.â Gunil packed up his things. âIf you actually want to protect those around you, drop this.â
You stayed by yourself in the study room for a long while. You thought over Gunilâs words, at least grateful for his candor above all else. Regardless of all your efforts you remained at square one. You knew nothing, and it was made very clear to you that nobody intended to tell you anything. You gathered up your things and wandered around campus for a bit. You saw so many others going about their lives. The omegas happy in blissful ignorance, and the alphas smiling like nothing was wrong. You were the only one hurting.
When you got back to the dorm you took a moment to compose yourself before walking in. You put on a smile and acted like everything was okay. Most of the others were gathered together for a movie night, but you told them you had some things you wanted to do and wouldnât be joining them. They were none the wiser as you retreated to your room. Once again you just stood around, not sure what to do with yourself. A moment later you heard another door close, realizing it was Chan. You made a choice then and there, going to Chanâs room, and locking the door behind you.
âWhat are you doing?â
âI canât do this, ChanâŠâ You admitted. âI canât just ignore the problem⊠and not knowing is killing meâŠâ
âYou donât need to stress over this. Y/n, Iâm right here, Iâm okay, we all are. Thereâs no reason-â
âAre you even my Chan?â
âWhat? Thatâs ridiculous, what kind of-â
âThatâs how I feel⊠Chan left⊠and when he came back he was different⊠his scent was different⊠that doesnât just happenâŠâ
âY/n-â
âAre you really the alpha who did everything to make me feel safe and happy? Or is he gone?â
âY/n-â
âI canât live like this, Chan! If⊠if youâre really him you need to be honest with me, please, please just tell me whatâs going on⊠I canât do thisâŠâ
You collapsed to your knees, tears blurring your face as you begged through your sobs. Chan watched you for a moment, his own resolve breaking bit by bit. He slowly approached and knelt down, gently reaching over to pet you and pull you into his arms.
âItâs dangerous to tell you. If anyone knew that you knew, weâd all be in big trouble.â
âIâm not okay⊠Iâm really not⊠I donât know who I can trust⊠Iâm all alone here and⊠I canâtâŠâ
â⊠y/nâŠâ
The ache in Chanâs heart was indescribable. You were such a mess, and your scent told him this wasnât some act to get information from him. He didnât choose to do this to you, yet he was responsible nonetheless. He couldnât bear to see you like this, yet the only remedy he had wasnât exactly great either.
â⊠y/n, y/n, y/nâŠâ Chan took your head in his hands. âI will tell you the truth, but only if youâre calm.â
â⊠huh?â
âDo you remember when Changbin was talking about pupspace?â
ââŠno⊠no you canât-â
âSh, sh, listen to me. When in pupspace youâre still you, youâll understand what Iâm saying, but itâll be on a delay, and I can make sure you wonât freak out. This is the only way this works, okay?â
â⊠okay⊠you promise, right? Youâll tell me the truthâŠâ
âI will, I promise.â
Chan asked you to give him a moment while he set something up. You were trying to dry your tears, seeing him grab the bed sheets and pillows, taking them into the bathroom. When he was done he brought you over, seeing he had turned the tub into something cozy. He got in first and then had you sit in his lap. He wiped away the last of your tears and placed a blanket over you. The bathroom door was closed, and his scent was certainly in the air and all around you. Chan wrapped his arms around you, resting his chin on your head. It was quiet, but you could hear his heartbeat.Â
The calm and steady rhythm was like a lullaby, and his scent was growing stronger. You had to put your trust in him right now, so you let all this wash over you. Slowly your heart and your mind started to settle. You were still worried about this whole thing, but it wasnât weighing on you so heavily. Itâs like the burden had become weightless. You felt like you were floating, and you snuggled against Chan. It really was cozy in his arms, but you knew you were here for something else.
âIâm sorry I made you worry so much⊠it was never my intentionâŠâ
â⊠I knowâŠâ
âY/n, Iâm alright, okay, you need to remember that.â
â⊠what happened, ChanâŠ?â
âI packed a bag and went on a small trip⊠they knocked us out and when we woke up we were somewhere new⊠no windows⊠kinda coldâŠâ
â⊠were you scaredâŠ?â
âA bit, but it wasnât that bad.â
â⊠what was the trainingâŠ?â
âTo start they did a routine physical on us, just to see where we were at⊠then⊠thenâŠâ Chan kissed your head. âThen they locked us in these cells⊠it was like a puzzle box⊠we had to do a list of things in order to get ourselves outâŠâ
â⊠whyâŠ?â
âI guess it was a cognitive test at first⊠then⊠it became something elseâŠâ
â⊠like whatâŠ?â
âThey put us in the cells⊠and then pumped the room full of pheromones⊠omega pheromones to be specificâŠâ
âI⊠I donât understand⊠why would they do thatâŠ?â
âCause instinct takes over⊠they triggered a rut and⊠we canât really focus in a state like that⊠and there wasnât really reliefâŠâ
âIt was just training. In order to do our job we need to be in control of ourselves, so they put us in a situation to learn. If we wanted out of the room we needed to fight our instincts and get ourselves out.â
â⊠all⊠all the alphas did thisâŠ?â
âYup. Endurance training. The constant exposure⊠we get stronger⊠of course not everyone can handle this⊠so those individuals were dismissedâŠâ
â⊠you were gone for so longâŠâ
âI was okay, I just needed to do some more training. Iâm looking after you as well as Jisung and Felix, I have to be capable for all of you.â
â⊠thatâs not fair⊠they⊠they hurt you⊠theyâŠâ
âSh, sh, itâs okay, Iâm okay, and so are the others.â
â⊠but⊠but you⊠next summerâŠâ
âYeah, yeah, I know. We did well enough to pass this time around. By graduation weâll be excellent.â
âNoâŠâ
âNo, what?â
â⊠you⊠you shouldnât⊠do thatâŠâ
âI need to be able to take care of you. If I canât control myself when youâre not in control I could hurt you or worse. Iâve seen what an out of control alpha can do, I donât want to be like that around you, so this is necessary.â
âNo itâs not.â
âSh, sh, sh, everythingâs okay. It happened and itâs over now.â
âIâm sorryâŠâ
âYou have nothing to apologize for, okay, but this has to stay between us. I know itâs a lot, and it sucks to hear, but you have to keep this to yourself. Promise me.â
âI promiseâŠâ
âGood, good. Iâm sorry for worrying you so much.â
Everything felt like a dream, but his words kept you connected to reality. Just picturing what he said, you could understand why none of the alphas would ever talk about it. Thereâs nothing to be proud of, and it sounds like humiliation too. It was awful to know what those close to you had gone through, it still weighed heavy on your heart, but at least knowing helped with the ache. This whole thing was cruel, and hard to believe, but Chan didnât do anything to make you believe he was lying. He gave you the truth, and now everything was laid bare before you.
Prompt: You were a princess in name alone. Unable to perform any of the duties that come with the title. It seemed to be your destiny to live a quiet life. That is until you met someone who refused to see you silenced. Perhaps your fate was wrong all along.
âDo you have anything to say for yourself!?â
Emotions were overflowing from Yunho, but he needed to compose himself. Too much had happened too fast, a betrayal on two sides. He didnât want to believe it, even now, but the truth was out, and there was nothing that could change that. He knew he could deal with his sister later, so for now the most important matter was in relation to Seonghwa. He wanted that person out of the palace as soon as possible, which meant he had to confront them now. Both Seonghwa and his guard Hongjoong were locked up, calm and quiet. He hated it.
âI acted alone.â Seonghwa stated. âMy family has nothing to do with my actions.â
Yunho scoffed. âYou expect me to believe that?â
âMy father would never approve of my actions as it would cause conflict and break relations between our families. You know that to be true. So exile is the best way to maintain peace, and I shall go without issue.â
âYouâre very calm considering the circumstances.â
âI know what must happen now.â
âThen tell me, why were you involved with the princess?â
âIs it so hard to understand that my actions were based off love.â
âYou really expect me to believe that as well?â
âI suppose you know better than I how her life has been. Sneaking around and going to her at night was the only way to care for her, to love her as she rightfully deserves.â
âWell because of you Iâll need to keep a better eye on her. Sheâll remain in her quarters indefinitely, and guarded at all times.â
âYouâre no better than the king and queen.â
âI am nothing like them!â Yunho snapped. âIf they were in charge of the situation you would be dead by now, but I wonât cause my sister such harm. So instead of death youâll live in exile and never see the princess again.â
âYou donât have to lie to me. You want me dead as well, but I thank you for your merciful heart.â
âYouâll leave in the morning, and never return.â
âThen let me make one thing clear.â Seonghwa stood up, standing face to face with Yunho. âIf you hurt her, I will know, and I will make you pay.â
Those words were nothing but an empty threat, but Yunho appreciated seeing something real, even if for a moment. He didnât bother with a reply and simply walked away. Whether he believed Seonghwaâs words or not didnât matter. That traitor was leaving, and heâd never allow them near his sister again.
âJongho.â
âYes, your highness.â
âI will not tarnish the Park name now as it would disrupt peace. Once I ascend the throne I shall get new advisors. So letâs keep this as simple and as quiet as possible.â
âYes, your highness.â
âWeâll just say that Seonghwa is not cut out for the palace or the role of a royal advisor. Theyâll be relieved of their responsibilities and leave the palace indefinitely.â
âŠâŠâ„âŠâŠ
You couldnât sleep that night, merely pacing back and forth, wiping away tears and choking back sobs. By now your eyes were red and puffy, and your throat a bit dry and itchy. You felt responsible for everything that had happened, and the guilt of it all weighed heavily on your shoulders. Above all you hated yourself. You were so pathetic, and you couldnât do anything about what was going on. So you resorted to lashing out, destroying everything in your room, screaming until your voice went hoarse, ignoring all the pains and aches that bloomed on your body. These injuries were nothing compared to what Seonghwa was going through, what you had put him through.
You only stopped when there was nothing left unbroken. You laid among the mess, the last inklings of tears sliding down your face. You reached for the necklace Seonghwa had given you, holding it tight as your heart ached. Time had no meaning, and before you knew it you saw bits of daylight creeping in. Once you realized what that meant you rushed out of your quarters. Except when you made it to the gates the guards posted there grabbed you and held you back. You started screaming and begging, desperate to see Seonghwa one last time. The guards werenât budging, and then you saw Mingi, Yunhoâs royal guard. Your heart immediately dropped, fearing the worst in seeing him.
âIs⊠is Seonghwa goneâŠ?â Mingi shook his head. âPlease, I want to see him off, please, please.â
âI canât do that, your highness.â
âPlease! I have to see him!â
âYour highness-â
âShe can come with me.â
As you were begging, Yeosang seemed to come by. You were certain Yunho had sent him over to check on you, but he was your chance.
âWith all due respect, I was-â
âIâll take responsibility.â Yeosang assured. âI am the one looking after her health after all. If sheâs kept from this, it will negatively affect her.â
ââŠâ
âCome now, we donât have much time.â
Yeosang pushed aside the guards and took your hand, leading the way. He escorted you, and Mingi followed as well with some other guards. You were certainly a mess, but cleaned yourself up as best as you could. It was very early in the morning so no one else was really around, which was all the more reason for Seonghwaâ exile to happen at daybreak. By the time anyone knew what had happened, he would already be gone. You were nervous, a part of you not fully accepting what was happening, and you had no idea what you would say. None of it mattered though as the moment you saw Seonghwa dressed in white your mind went blank and you ran to his side.
âSeonghwa!â
The guards escorting him intended to stop you, but Seonghwa pushed past them and met to embrace you. They likely would have separated you, but Mingi told the others to hold off and let you both have your moment. You were so focused on Seoghwa you didnât even realize your brother was approaching.
âWhat is the meaning of this!?â Yunho snapped. âWhat is she doing here!? I never-â
âShe needs this.â Yeosang interrupted, stepping in front of Yunho to halt him in his tracks. âIf you donât allow her to bid him farewell her mental state will suffer more. I brought her here, I shall take responsibility.â
Yunho actually growled at Yeosang, but let it go. This would be the end regardless. So he could allow a few moments to say goodbye, even if he hated it.
âSeonghwa⊠Iâm so sorryâŠâ
You hugged Seonghwa tightly the moment he was in your arms again, fresh tears starting to fall. He hugged you tightly in return, gently rocking your body to the side and rubbing circles into your back.
âSh, itâs not your fault.â
âIt isâŠâ
âYou werenât the one sneaking into my quarters.â
âSeonghwaâŠâ
âSh, please donât cry. Everythingâs going to be alright.â
âI donât want you to goâŠâ
âI have to, you know that.â
âIâm sorryâŠâ
âStop apologizing, itâs okay.â
You pulled away from the hug, Seonghwa wiping away your tears. He was holding himself together, and he looked so ethereal in the morning light.
âYou⊠you were going to tell me something⊠what is itâŠ?â
âNow is not the time, but I must ask you to be strong, and to take good care of yourself.â Seonghwa caressed your cheek. âI will make this right, I will find my way back to you, I promise.â
âSeonghwa-â
Before you could say more Mingi grabbed you and pulled you away from Seonghwa. He held you back as other guards dragged Seonghwa back to his original spot. You tried to hold on, but your hands slipped from his, and his warmth lingered on your fingertips. You were held back as Seonghwaâs exile was properly announced, presented as him being unable to fulfill his duties and voluntarily leaving. It was all a lie and it hurt even more. Tears kept flowing and blurred your vision. You couldnât watch him go so you hid your face in Mingiâs chest. He awkwardly tried to comfort you, but it wasnât going to help much. The silence that fell was quietly filled with your sobs. After a moment Yeosang pulled you towards him, softly telling you it was time to go back to your quarters. In any other situation you might have fought back, but you were so defeated you simply let Yeosang lead you away, back to your cell.
You felt dead with every step, moving further and further away from the person you loved so much. Your vision was still a bit blurry, a few sniffles here and there. The pain in your chest was indescribable, and you hated knowing you had to go on like this. This was all just a bad dream you wanted to wake up from, but you didnât know if you would. Yeosang was leading the way, and you werenât paying much attention until you heard multiple footsteps. It was too early to be hearing so many people, and when you looked up you immediately stopped. You saw the Queen and her entourage approaching. Instinctively you moved behind Yeosang, grabbing his clothes and trying not to let fear overtake you. As she approached you caught her gaze and knew she was upset with you. She certainly had multiple reasons.
âYou-â
The Queen did not care for you trying to use Yeosang as a shield, and she moved to strike you. Of course you hid, waiting for that physical pain, but it never came. When you peeked your eyes open you saw Yunho holding the Queenâs arm and then shove her back.
âThe Princess is under my care. You have no right to harm her.â
âReally? Your care? And how did that go?â
âIâll remind you this was happening before I took over, and Iâm the one who dealt with it.â
âOf course.â
âI will also add that the Princess is confined to her quarters indefinitely under my orders. She is not to leave nor is she allowed any visitors without my approval. So donât think you can scold her later.â
âHmph.â
The Queen took one last glance your way before leaving with her entourage. Before you would have been grateful for Yunho, but right now he wasnât in your good graces. From there Yunho escorted you back to your quarters. When he saw the mess that had become of your room he made no comment.
âSince the sun is up, why donât we have breakfast in your garden? Meanwhile Iâll have your court ladies-â
âLeave.â
âExcuse me?â
âI donât want to see you.â
âAlright, Iâll let you rest. Although, your court ladies do need to clean the room and you need to eat. I donât want you-â
âJust go already.â
âOkay.â
For now Yunho would comply with your request. He was worried, but youâd likely need some space for the time being. He could give it, and others would keep an eye on you for him. Mingiâs most trusted guards would remain outside your quarters, and they all had their orders. Once Yunho was gone you collapsed in bed as tears started falling again. Seonghwa was gone, you knew that for sure now. Every moment that passed meant he was further and further away from you. He told you heâd make things right, that he would come back, but you had no idea how heâd keep such a promise. All you could do now was hope and wait, even if it hurt. So you quietly cried, laying in bed until you passed out on your own. The night had been extremely eventful, and you were far more tired than you even knew. You slept until your court ladies awoke you, bringing you food.
They moved some things aside, trying to suggest that they could clean while you ate but you told them to leave immediately. The two quickly excused themselves, leaving you with food. You werenât actually hungry, and for a while you just stared at it. In reality you wouldnât eat, but you knew Seonghwa would be worried. You forced yourself to take a few bites, but thatâs really all you could manage. The rest you threw out, then you noticed the medicine. You really wished Seonghwa had tried it, he likely would have told you all about it. Still, you knew it was important but you only drank a bit before throwing the rest out as well. You left the mess of your room as it was and laid in bed. You pulled out the necklace you had, seeing the sun and moon together. It was just like you and Seonghwa, both from two different worlds, but still finding a way to be together.
The days blurred together in meaningless repetition. Your room remained a mess for a while as your court ladies would slowly clean, bit by bit as they came to drop off food and pick up empty dishes. Youâd drift in and out of sleep, staying in your undergarments and refusing to bathe. When food was brought youâd only manage a few bites, taking a sip of your medicine, and tossing everything else out. The animals would eat your leftovers so they did well to cover your tracks. You didnât cry anymore, having dried up all your tears. You knew this type of living wasnât what Seonghwa wanted from you, but you didnât have the energy for anything else. All you could really do was hold onto his promise, but the more you dwelled on it, and as everyday passed it became harder to believe. You missed Seonghwa, everything about him, but now you were supposed to live without him. You honestly didnât know how long you could last.
âŠâŠâ„âŠâŠ
Yunho gave you space, just as you wanted, knowing very well he was the last person you wanted to see. At least he knew you were eating meals and taking your medicine. Soon enough he was going to need to send Yeosang to check on you, and he himself would have to pay you a visit. He knew it likely would not go well, but it was necessary. Of course in the meantime he had other matters to deal with. The sudden news of exile stirred up trouble in the palace, and such a thing warranted an audience with the King. For such a meeting Minister Park was present as well, which was to be expected.
âYour highness, I deeply apologize for the actions of-â
Yunho held up his hand. âYou do not need to apologize. I am aware that the boy acted of their own accord, and I hold no malice towards you or the rest of the Park family.â
âThat is very wise of you, my son.â The King stated. âThen we can move forward with assigning another-â
âNo, that wonât be necessary.â
âPardon?â
âIâve had my own advisor by my side for many years now, and I rather they remain as my sole advisor. I also have no intention of having a Park as my royal advisor going forward.â
âYou cannot be serious.â
âIndeed I am. This long standing relationship between the Jeongâs and Parkâs is what led to this whole incident in the first place, and I will not allow a repeat. My decision is final on this.â
âI see, and how is the princess?â
âFine. I have the situation handled, and she will not be a problem to you.â
âHandled? The whole palace is aware of the exile, even if the public believe it was a voluntary leave. You call that handled?â
âThe palace was never suited for him. Everyone can agree on that, so the story is not one to be questioned. If there is nothing else to discuss here I shall take my leave as I have other matters to attend to.â
Whatâs done was done, so there really was no reason to discuss such things further. Without another word Yunho excused himself.
âYour highness.â Jongho began. âIf I may, your actions here could be taken the wrong way. Others may think you are making enemies.â
âIâve always had enemies, Jongho. Some I didnât even realize.â
âŠâŠâ„âŠâŠ
âThis is all still incredibly dangerous, Seonghwa. We are lucky to be alive.â
âActually being killed would have been difficult, I do bear the Park name afterall.â Seonghwa commented. âWhat I despise is how this all went down, and Iâm worried about y/n.â
âWe should get news from the palace soon.â
âAre Wooyoung and San alright?â
âThey should be. Neither had strong ties to us, and our relationship appeared purely professional. Theyâll likely keep a low profile for the time being to not arouse suspicion or make others question where their loyalties lie.â
âGood.â
That fateful day, after the painful goodbye, Seonghwa and Hongjoong were escorted to the edge of the town. They were given a horse and some basic supplies, another escort team took them further away, leaving them in a small village to live quiet lives. Of course any attempt to return to the palace would result in imprisonment, and there were those around who would keep an eye on them and make sure they didnât try anything. Seonghwa had no intention of returning to the palace without a plan, and now that he was out here, there was something he needed to do. As long as he didnât go towards the palace he could do as he pleased, so Seonghwa and Hongjoong packed up for a little journey.
âWhere exactly are we going, Seonghwa?â
âThis exile works in our favor. There is someone we need to find. Theyâll be able to help us.â
âWho could possibly be out here that can provide help? And for what exactly?â
âYouâll see.â
âWell, weâve been traveling for days now, is this person really worth it?â
âIncredibly so.â
All that traveling led them to a small home out in the woods. The whole place was isolated, and felt oddly familiar too. Seonghwa slowly approached the house, shouting to see if anyone was present. For a long while it was quiet, and then an older man appeared with a sword.
âWho are you? Why are you here?â
The question itself had a difficult and complicated response, but this person looked them over and seemed to recognize the type of clothes they wore.
âI see we are in the same predicament.â
âPrecisely.â Seonghwa confirmed. âYouâre the exiled Prince Jeong, Grand Uncle of the current Crown Prince.â
âThat may be, but the question remains, who are you and what do you want?â
âI want your help. I know why you were exiled, the true reason, all over some secret you did not want to keep. For you it was just something not to speak of, but it is happening now with the current Princess.â
âThe Princess? Are you saying she-â
âYes. Iâve confirmed it myself, and Iâve seen the true records of the royal lineage. I know exactly what has happened in the past in regard to this situation.â
âAnd what exactly do you want to do with this information?â
âI had plans before, but now all I want more than anything is to get the Princess out of the palace and go far away.â
âYou need my help for that?â
âAs a royal you know the palace better than I, you would also know how far the Kingâs reach truly is. I need to get her out safely, and to leave this kingdom entirely.â
âI admire your dedication, but if what you say is true, the safest place for her is the palace.â
âI donât believe that.â
âYes you do. You come here asking for an escape plan, yet there is another idea in your head. The latter is what needs to be done, and I can help with that as well.â
âThe Princess wonât like it.â
âYou care for her, donât you? Why else would you go through such trouble? You know what needs to be done here, and you know it is for her sake.â
âIt shouldnât have to be this way.â
âWe both know this situation was created by others, and we have a duty to rectify that.â
Do you plan on doing anything more Ateez? Cause I have been obsessed with your work for months! And re-read every Ateez story again and againđ„șđ
Hi, hi, Nonnie đ€
I have plenty of more ideas for Ateez! I'm actually working on the next chapter of their main story, Royal Blood. I've been busy this weekend as it was their comeback and there was a pop up near me I attended. Although I am aiming to have that story updated this week.
Thanks so much for reading and I hope my Ateez stories keep entertaining you!
I didnât even get the chance to read it yet but Iâm so happy!! Nctzens are out of the basement !! I will give my thought after I read but I wanted to give my thanks right away!!
Out of the basement >_<
A lot has happen in NeoCity, it felt right to go back to my roots. I miss all my boys even as they are sporadically active. I do hope the story brings you joy!
You still couldnât believe you were here. It was truly a dream come true. Once upon a time you watched them on a screen, and now they stood before you, alive and real, well, maybe not exactly alive.
âHi⊠Iâm y/n, one of the new managers.â
You held your hand out, although you should have known better. Instead the seven boys lined up and did their introduction.
â1, 2, 3. To the world this is NCT. Hello, we are NCT Unity.â
You clapped your hands and jumped up a bit before getting a glare from the other manager. You cleared your throat, and offered a bow in return.
âI look forward to working with you.â
âWe look forward to working with you too.â
NCT Unity is a seven member kpop boy group. The leader was Taeyong, and his members were Johnny, Jaehyun, Jungwoo, Jeno, Jaemin, and Jisung. Many like to refer to them as Tae and the J-line. They were an absolute powerhouse in the industry, and had a secret appeal to them. They were androids. Their company had put a lot of care and effort into creating them, making them the perfect idols. You had to say they nailed it. All the members were gorgeous, and incredibly talented. Although they did have different positions in the group. You had been a fan, an NCTzen, for years, so to actually get to work with them, and see them everyday. Your fangirl heart was about to burst from your chest, but this was a big girl job, so you needed to remain professional and composed.
âI have to take this, Iâll be right back.â
The other manager stepped away for the moment, leaving you alone with the boys. You were trying to stay calm, keeping your head low and hoping you werenât coming off as weird. All of a sudden you saw someoneâs face, seeing that they had bent down to meet your gaze.
âHi.â
âJaemin!â
âOh, you know my name. You must really be a fan.â
âWhat!?â
âWe can hear your heart racing.â Johnny commented. âAnd your body temperature is spiking. If youâre not a fan we might need to take you to the doctor.â
âNo! No, Iâm fine⊠itâs just⊠a lotâŠâ
âSo you are a fan?â
âOf course sheâs a fan.â Jeno stated. âShe clapped for us when we introduced ourselves.â
âAh⊠that was inappropriate of me, sorry.â
âDonât apologize. Itâs great to have someone like you as our manager.â
âMe? Weâve only just met.â
âBut as our fan youâre already great.â Jisung added. âSo, how long have you been following us?â
âUhâŠâ
âItâs okay, you can be honest.â
âSince your debut⊠there was already so much talk about you guys predebut and I was curious. You guys were incredible from the start, and still are.â
âWow, you must be one of our first fans.â Jaehyun remarked. âWeâre honored.âÂ
âHave you ever been to one of our fansigns?â Jungwoo asked. âI donât have your face saved in our database.â
âWait, what? You have a database to remember faces?â
âWe like to remember the fans we meet. Weâll be sure to remember you now.â
âWhich reminds me.â Jaemin added. âCan we get your number? Now that youâre our manager we should have it.â
âOh, right, we should exchange contact information.â
âWe donât have physical phones.â Johnny explained. âSo you can just give us your number.â
âOkay then.â
You provided them with your number, learning that they could call you remotely as they had cell access from, well, themselves.
âIâm curious.â Taeyong wondered. âDo you have any of our albums?â
âOf courseâŠâ You admitted shyly. âI think of myself as a bit of a collector.â
âThen whoâs your bias?â
âUmâŠâ
âOh please, itâs obviously me.â Jaemin stated. âIâm the best.â
âHave you looked in the mirror?â Jaehyun teased. âIâm her bias.â
âThe obvious answer is Taeyong.â Johnny pointed out. âHeâs the most popular one.â
âThatâs not true!â You said.Â
âSo, Iâm not your favorite?â Taeyong questioned.
âUh⊠thatâs not what I said.â
âThen whoâs your bias?â
âHonestlyâŠâ
âYes, we wanna know.â
âI donât think I could pick.â
âWhat?â Jeno questioned. âThat canât be true.â
âIt is, I swear. You guys are all amazing, and I donât think I could pick any one of you as my bias.â
âYouâre just saying that cause youâre our manager.â
âI canât be showing favoritism, but youâre all great.â
âWho do you collect then?â Jungwoo asked.
âNo one in particular. I keep the cards I pull, but Iâll admit Jaehyun keeps popping up.â
âGuess that makes me the winner.â Jaehyun smirked.Â
âOn a technicality.â Jaemin stated. âSo, whatâs your favorite comeback?â
âWell⊠I really liked it when your hair was blue.â
Jaemin threw a smirk your way before running his hand through his hair. As he did so the color changed from brown to blue. You were left with your jaw on the floor.
âYou can change your hair color just like that!?âÂ
âThereâs a lot you donât know about us.â
The manager returned and the boys all lined up again, Jaeminâs hair fading back to brown, meaning running his hand through his hair was all for show. There wasnât really much to explain to you, so this was gonna be a hands-on learning type of job. Obviously the first thing to familiarize yourself with were the schedules, both group and solo ones. The days were certainly busy, but you got used to it and began to get into your own rhythm. For the most part you were more like an assistant manager, doing tasks that were assigned to you here and there, along with observing and making note of important things. Of course you also had to keep your fangirl side in check as this job allowed you to learn so much more about the boys and how a group like this worked. For safety and security reasons not much was shared with the public about the inner workings of the boys or the group, so all the things you were learning were incredible.
For starters, the boys actually drank this custom made cooling fluid in order to keep their systems from over heating. The bottles were kept in a miniature portable fridge for easy transportation and the door handle was even digitally locked in a way that only the boys could open it to prevent anyone else from accidentally drinking that stuff. Of course the fridge was refilled at the company by authorized staff when necessary but the whole thing was cool nonetheless. You were curious as to what would happen if a person ever drank that green liquid, but you figured it was best not to ask. On top of that, their personal stylists were not exactly what you expected.Â
They were professionals of course, but they did things a bit differently. When it came to hair they could style it like normal, but they never cut it or used any sort of products. The boys had life like hair but it was still actually this high-tech material. So they could make it as long or as short as necessary, and change color at will. Not to mention once styled the look could be locked in as if one had used hair spray. Within minutes the boys could have completely different hairstyles and it would always look amazing. Then there was the makeup side of things that was just as cool. The makeup artists still had all the typical items and tools, but they were kinda fake, almost like toys.Â
Theyâd use these special high-tech brushes like one normally would, dabbing it over a color to make the bristles absorb it, except the color could only be applied to the skin of the boys. The brushes could apply foundation along with blush and eyeshadow. Then there were all the colorful pencils and lipstick options too. They were high-tech as well, so you could try to use them on yourself all you wanted, but nothing would appear. Only when used on the boys to add some finer details and color would they actually work. It was so cool to see, and you were impressed by the skills of the staff. It probably took some time to get used to such equipment, and you hoped maybe someday you could learn to use it as well.
Although what really surprised you, but made sense in hindsight, was the tablet the manager always had on them. It seemed normal, but was actually incredibly important. With it, the manager could monitor the boysâ vitals, energy levels, location, and system operations. It made sense to have such a device, you just never thought about all the logistics that would make an idol group like this work. If you didnât know anything and just saw them perform one day, you wouldnât know they were androids. Everything about them was carefully designed to appear real, and the things around them mimicked life so well. All this made you love and appreciate the group even more. Yet there was still more to learn.
đ€
One day you were asked to come in early in the morning, before your usual start time. You werenât sure why, but arrived at the company when you were requested. That was the day you got to see where the boys had their dorm room, or at least what everyone called it. In reality it was something else entirely. When you walked into this supposed dorm you saw that this huge space contained seven pods where the boys would recharge and also receive maintenance. You were told that the boys tended to recharge every three days due to all the activities they took on as idols but when they were in between comebacks it was more of a weekly thing. Today was recharge day, so all seven were currently in their pods for a longer period of time. They looked like they were sleeping, but it was rather odd to see them in such a state.
Besides the pods, there was this giant control panel in the center of the room that monitored everything about the boys, even when they were elsewhere. Seeing all this was another interesting peek behind the curtain, but it also made you sad. This place was so cold and mechanical, not at all the way a real dorm should be. It hurt a bit to know that this was where your idols were when they werenât on stage or behind a camera. To a degree this was also a bit of a reality check. No matter how realistic they looked, and how life-like they were as idols, they werenât real people. It was a truth every nctzen knew deep down cause there was no slice of life content from the group. All they ever did was perform on stage, promote their albums on music shows, and do fansigns. The company saw it as a waste of resources to have them play pretend as real people. They were idols, that image was where the love, and money, was at.
âThey should be waking up soon.â
You watched as one by one the boys began to wake, seeing an initial green glow in their eyes before it faded away. Definitely like some kind of electronic system booting up. Although they all soon realized you were in the room, offering you a smile and greeting you as they got out of their pods. All systems were good on their end, and now you got to know why you were really brought in so early. Besides learning something new about the boys, the manager handed you the tablet. It was about time you learned how to properly take care of them as androids. You were incredibly nervous to have such an important piece of tech in your hands, but this was a responsibility youâd eventually have to take on. Of course you werenât the main manager, but you should know what to do in case your help is ever needed in regards to these things.
You slowly got the hang of it. Carefully watching what your manager did and asking questions. Despite how important that tablet was, it was not used much outside of basic monitoring. It wasnât that scary to have it in hand once you better understood its function, and you certainly felt more like their manager as time went on. You had to keep things professional, but you certainly felt yourself growing closer to the boys. Being with them on the daily really made it easy to forget they were androids and not real people. Of course there were reminders here and there, but regardless you were their manager, and you felt like you were doing a good job so far. Then the real work began.
âY/n, can I get some water?â
While you were checking over the schedule you suddenly heard a chime. You thought it was your phone, but there wasnât any notification. Then your gaze went to the tablet at your side. You picked it up and saw a message bubble at the top from Jungwoo. You had no idea they could send messages to the tablet, but either way you couldnât access the fridge. You were about to figure out how to send a reply when another message popped up.
âIâll open the fridge for you.â
You glanced over at Jungwoo who was in the middle of hair and makeup. His eyes were closed, yet he was communicating with you. Since he asked, you got up and went to the fridge. As you reached for the handle it clicked and unlocked itself, allowing you to get one of the special bottles. You went over to Jungwoo, intending to place the bottle on the table, but he effortlessly reached for it and took it from you, all with his eyes closed.
âThank you.â
âOf course.â
After that whenever you had the tablet the boys would message you. Either with some requests here and there, or just making conversation. It was a bit silly to text in such a way when they were right there, but they found it fun. You werenât even sure how it worked, but it did. It just became another part of the job, and even though things were mostly smooth sailing, there were complications every now and then too.
âNCT Unity, be ready for rehearsals in five!â
Over time you got to know the other managers and saw each other regularly at music shows and other venues. You were all friendly with one another, and it was nice to chat with people who understood the job.
âYour job has got to be easy since all those boys actually listen to you.â
âItâs not as easy as you think.â You remarked. âThey all have their own quirks and personalities. Theyâre life-like in many ways.â
Even though you had been with them for a while you never got tired of watching them perform. So it really was a treat to see them rehearse. Although the last thing you ever wanted to see was one of them get hurt. This time around during rehearsals Jaemin wound up slipping and crashing to the ground. The table in hand immediately flashed red and you rushed to Jaeminâs side to examine him. He sat up but kept his head low, and you could see why. His left eye was sporadically changing colors and flashing green.
âIâm fine.â
âYeah right, come on, letâs go back to the dressing room.â
You helped Jaemin stand up, the boy keeping a hand over his left eye. You yelled at the staff to examine the stage and fix it before the actual show. You led Jaemin back to the dressing room, the rest of the members following behind as well. Jaemin sat down in front of the mirror, seeing for himself how his eye was glitching. You looked over the tablet to see what the problem was, and it seemed there was some misalignment in his visual component, meaning his eye.
âOkay⊠how do we fix thisâŠâ
âA reset should fix me.â Jaemin commented. âThereâs a button behind my right ear, should get it done.â
âAre⊠are you sure?â
âThe alternative is going back to the shop.â Taeyong mentioned. âWe donât have time for that.â
âRight. Okay, it wonât hurt right?â
âNot at all.â
âAlright.â
Jaemin gave you a reassuring smile as you reached over for that reset button. He told you that you had to press it down for three seconds and youâd know when it worked. It was kind of scary to see that smile on his face drop along with his head. Jaemin fell forward into your chest as if he had suddenly fallen asleep. You caught him and held him, feeling this lingering warmth. He was deadly still and silent for what felt like eternity before he finally came back online. That smile was back and his eye was normal again. You double checked the tablet which confirmed all his systems were functioning properly. There was still some time before the show so you went to find his stylist and makeup artist to freshen him up before then. While looking around though you wound up overhearing some of the other managers talking.
âGood thing the android was the one that slipped on the stage, and not an actual idol.â
You certainly wanted to say something about that, but you held your tongue needing to be professional here. It still hurt to hear that. Regardless of what Jaemin was, he still got hurt. If anything he was lucky it wasnât that severe. The rest of the schedule went by smoothly and you kinda wanted to celebrate to lift up their spirits after the morning incident. Of course your manager reminded you that the boys didnât really do things like that. It killed your spirit a bit to go home without rewarding the boys, but then you got an idea. Youâd have to be careful and keep it a secret, but you think theyâd like it. Even though their schedules were done for the day, they intended to practice at the company before going back to the shop. That gave you time to prepare your surprise. It was a little difficult but you stopped by their practice room when everything was ready.
âY/n? What are you doing here so late?â Jisung questioned. âI thought you went home.â
âI was, but I wanted to do something for you guys. Iâm sure this morning was a bit rough, but I wanted to cheer you up. I wasnât sure how, but I hope this works.â
You presented each member with an icee made from their cooling fluid. At first they were confused, but as you explained it you could see their eyes light up. They eagerly took a sip, rather surprised at how different this was. It was a perfect treat after practicing.
âThis is awesome!â Jeno exclaimed. âI didnât know you could do this.â
âItâs got a little crunch to it too.â Jaehyun added. âI like this better than just drinking this stuff.â
âThank you very much.â Taeyong commented. âFor this and all your hard work as our manager.â
âOf course. Itâs my job to look after you guys.â
You stuck around for a bit before heading home. It was late and you had to be back in a couple of hours so you needed some rest. Although instead of your morning alarm waking you up, it was a phone call. The main manager hadnât shown up to work due to an emergency, so youâd be fully in charge that day. Which meant you had to be there earlier than usual. You had to drag yourself out of bed with less hours of sleep, but duty called. It wasnât even going to be an easy day as the boys had a fansign scheduled and those events could be rather complex. Still, you put on a smile and prepared to face the day.
đ€
Preparing and making sure everything was set up properly for a fansign was a lot of work, especially since you were fully in charge that day. You wanted everything to be perfect so everyone involved had a good time. The venue was properly set up in no time, and you were going over the final checklist before letting fans in.
âOkay. Your boxes of gifts are under the table. Weâll start with fan interaction and-â
âCome on, y/n, lets do a test run.â Johnny said. âItâs the best way to do this.â
âHuh?â
Before you could say more Johnny was pulling you up on stage. The table had been set, plenty of markers, and a bench for the fans to easily move on from one member to the next. Johnny had you sit down before Jungwoo.
âHi there, youâre a very pretty czennie.â Jungwoo began. âIs this your first time here?â
âJungwoo, what are you doing?â
âCome on. You said you never had a chance to come to one of our fansigns, so lets do it now.â
âI-â
âPretty please.â Jaemin begged. âItâll be fun and you can say itâs a warm up.â
âOkay, okay.â You smiled. âI donât have anything with me though.â
âThatâs okay, we got you.â Taeyong brought over their new album, handing it to Jungwoo. âWe can use this.â
As much as you should have refused, you couldnât but indulge your fangirl self. This was more of a personal meet and greet, so you put down your title as manager and became just another one of their precious czennies. You always hoped to get into one of their fansigns, getting to meet them, talk about their music and talents. They were just as kind and fun as you had always imagined. Even though you had been working with them for months now, as you went down the line with them, you felt the same awe as you did when you first got into them.
âOkay, okay, thatâs enough. Itâs almost time to get started. Thank you very much for this.â
âThanks for coming.â Jaehyun teased. âWe hope to see you next time too.â
âIâll do my best to attend.â
âWait, wait!â Jisung interrupted. âYou have to open the album first! We wanna see who you pull!â
âAlright, but after this we have to get started.â
The boys all eagerly gathered around as you did a mini album unboxing. You did your best to avoid seeing the photocard, everyone counting down before you took a look.
âI pulled Jungwoo!â
Of course there was playful disappointment, but Jungwoo was happily puffing out his chest. This was certainly going to be a topic to discuss and tease about going forward, but for now it was time to start the main event. The doors opened and fans were let in, the venue filling up quickly. Everything seemed to be running smoothly, and everyone was having a good time. Then a message from Taeyong popped up on your tablet.
âI donât mean to cause a fuss, but there is someone here who is banned from these events.â
Just then you got another message with a picture of this person in question. You didnât know the circumstances but then another message seemed to explain. You got this persons name and reason for being banned, along with the fake name and information given to get into this event. They werenât kidding about having a database and remembering every fan they ever interacted with at these events. Now you had to handle this without causing a scene, but you knew this would draw attention regardless. You took a breath before talking with some security guards and going over to the person in question. You politely introduced yourself, and when you used their real name they seemed to get nervous. Security along with yourself escorted them out, and you made sure to refund the account used as they never should have been here in the first place. Thankfully the rest of the event continued on with no problems.
âGood job everyone.â
âLetâs take a picture!â Jeno said. âTo commemorate today.â
You couldnât say no as the boys dragged you up on stage. Jungwoo got your album for you and was happily showing off his photocard. You happily let your inner czennie take the photo, knowing this was one of the happiest moments of your life.
âY/n, can we have those icees again?â Johnny asked. âThey were really awesome.â
âHm, I suppose you deserve a nice treat after all your hard work. Sure.â
There was something special about seeing the boys smile and laugh. It felt more authentic in these private little moments. Of course they shined bright on stage and on camera, but that was their job, their purpose. Now that you were here letting them enjoy custom made icees, those smiles and laughter felt more real than anything you had seen before. All anyone ever really saw of them was when they were idols, but they were truly so much more. You wanted other nctzens to see this too, but as you had been told before, it would be a waste. You didnât think so, you were a nztcen, you knew youâd love to see them outside of schedules, and so would many more of their fans, but the company was in full control of them. They just wanted idols, and thatâs all they were ever going to let these boys be.
After the fansign the boys had no schedules for a while as they had to undergo regular maintenance. It was also a chance for you to take a little break and rest. For the initial stuff you were present, supervising and also wanting to see what maintenance entailed. It wasnât anything grand. While in the pods the boys underwent a full system and body analysis to make sure everything was functioning properly. The boys were happy to see you, and Jaehyun told you not to be scared of anything. They do this all the time and are perfectly fine. You watched as they all got into their pods, offering you reassuring smiles before closing their eyes. The technician explained a few things to you, saying it was a really simple process. The boys took care of themselves well, so after the initial scans there was just a full system reboot to clean things out.
The reboot part scared you the most. They were people to you, and people didnât just undergo something like that. You didnât have to stick around for everything, but it didnât feel right to leave them alone. So you watched and waited. After the reboot there was a flash of red on the screens, but then it showed that everything was fine. You didnât know what that meant, but you were glad it was all over now. The technician also informed you that the maintenance had no issues, and excused themselves afterwards. To be safe the boys wouldnât partake in any schedules for at least three days, so now you all had some downtime. Although besides going home to rest, you werenât sure what the boys did when they had free time.
âSee, quick and simple.â Jisung said as he stepped out of his pod. âWeâre all good now.â
âKinda wanna hang around butâŠâ Jaemin began. âWe donât really have our own place.â
âI know.â Jungwoo added. âThis place is so cold and metallic, not comfortable or good for relaxing at all.â
âWhy donât you mention it to the higher ups.â Taeyong suggested. âYouâre one of our czennies and our manager, you know it would be better if we had a real place to rest during our downtime.â
âI know, but I donât have that much power. I can bring it up to the main manager once they get back.â
âHm, maybe one day youâll hold that title. Then you could speak for us, right?â
âIâd do my best.â
Even though the boys werenât on schedules for the time being, it didnât mean they couldnât start simple preparations for their next album. They wanted to see the type of things you did as their manager, given you were still in charge, so they stuck close with you over the next few days.
âI feel like youâre just as busy as us.â Jaehyun commented. âWhen do you get a break?â
âHere and there, Iâm alright I assure you.â
âWeâre not busy now, so why not take a proper day off.â
âI have to start scheduling for the next album.â
âA nap wonât hurt.â
Jaehyun pulled you away from your things and brought you over to the couch, making you lay down and rest your head on his lap.â
âJaehyun, this isnât-â
âSh. I can sing a lullaby and you can take a quick nap.â
âJae-â
âYou look tired, y/n, let me help.â
â⊠fine⊠just fifteen minutes.â
âDeal.â
You were rather tired. Despite it being downtime for the boys you were still rather busy. With the main manager still absent, you were still taking on their duties on top of your own. So far you were handling it, but you were feeling burnout as well. You didnât want to let the boys down, being able to take care of them is any fans dream, and you intended to do just that. It was easy to fall asleep in Jaehyunâs lap, especially when he started petting your head. His soothing voice lulling you to sleep. After your nap you opened your eyes to see Jeno and Jaemin sitting on the floor in front of you.
âSo cute.â
âWhat the-â
Seeing the two startled you awake and you jumped up. The boys quickly apologized, saying they had been looking for you but Jaehyun told them not to bother you. They said you looked adorable sleeping and figured they would just wait until after your nap.
â⊠sorryâŠâ
âItâs fine, I just wasnât expecting it. Alright, what did you want to see me about?â
âWe had some ideas for the album, come on.â
Jeno took your hand and dragged you off. During these days off the boys were way more social with you, and intimate in some ways. They were always happy with you, smiles all around, holding your hand, being clingy and touchy as well. None of it had malicious intent, you knew that, but it certainly made your heart race. In those days it almost felt like you were living in some kind of fantasy, having all their attention on you. Then it hit you.
â⊠fuckâŠâ
Of course fans loved their idols, but this was something else for you. All this time you had gotten to see a side of them no one else did, gotten to know them and see them in a light fans never did. Your heart wasnât just racing as a fangirl, but as yourself. It was silly to entertain the thought that you had fallen in love with these boys. They werenât real, they were just androids, but love couldnât make that kind of distinction. From the beginning they knew you were a fan, and were more than happy to do all kinds of fanservice for you, which certainly didnât help your feelings. You werenât sure what to do with yourself anymore, but you needed to get your heart sorted or else you couldnât continue doing your job. It wouldnât be a good idea.
âAlright, the choreography portion of the music video is done. Weâll film a separate dance practice in ten, so everyone freshen up.â
The main manager was still on leave, and you were doing well so far, but you certainly needed help. You considered putting in a request for an assistant manager, but you werenât sure how that would look. You went to the dressing room to take a breather, needing to look over some things as well.
âThere you are.â
Taeyong walked into the room, offering you a smile and then checking his appearance in the mirror. He grabbed a bottle from the fridge, watching you work for a bit.
âDo you think we could get some icees once weâre done for the day?â
âUh, sure, itâll just take a while since I still have some other things to do once you guys are done.â
âYouâre so busy lately.â
âWell, I am your sole manager right now, so there is a lot for me to take care of.â
âWhy not hire some help?â
âCause the main manager is on leave, and Iâm just filling in. I donât think it would look good of me to ask for help.â
âBut you need it.â
âIâm managing thus far.â
âThen maybe you need to unwind a bit.â
âHm?â
The whole time you had been talking with Taeyong you were focused on your computer, going over emails, but when Taeyong mentioned needing to unwind you looked up. He was standing before you, and next thing you knew he pinned you down on the couch.
âTaeyong⊠what are you-â
âYour heart is racing right now.â Taeyong chuckled. âAnd your body temperature is spiking too.â
â⊠taeyong⊠itâs not nice to monitor my-â
âYou do it too. With that tablet you can see everything about us. This is only fair, isnât it?â
âI⊠I donât understand, please get off-â
As you tried to get Taeyong off of you he suddenly grabbed your hands and held them above your head. Now you were completely pinned beneath him.
âDid you like watching us dance earlier?â
âHuh?â
âYour heart always flutters when you watch us. Even after all this time you get excited to see us perform. Youâre still our precious czennie.â
âTaeyong-â
âWill you let me try something?â
Before you could even question his words Taeyong had his lips pressed against yours. It was wrong, you knew that, yet you couldnât help but kiss back. You let yourself indulge and that was a big problem. You snapped yourself back to your senses and pulled away, starting to fight.
âTaeyong, this is wrong!â
âThen why did you kiss back? Hm?â
âThis shouldnât be in your code.â
Taeyong scoffed. âIâm AI, not a robot, so Iâm always learning new things.â
âNo one taught you this!â
âBut isnât this a fans dream come true?â
âTaeyong-â
âDonât you like me?â
âNot like thisâŠâ
âWhy not? I have all the parts to please you with.â
âThis isnât right! Now get off, Taeyong, please!â
âWho cares if itâs right or wrong?â
âTaeyong!â
To your own surprise he let you go and got off, stepping away just as the door opened. The rest of the boys came into the room, and you quickly composed yourself. Without saying much you excused yourself, rushing to the bathroom to catch your breath and compose yourself. You splashed water in your face, trying to process what had happened. You never expected such a thing to happen, or even be possible. Something like this was really more of a fantasy, but you couldnât understand why it was happening. Moreso why Taeyong would do such a thing. You kept things professional, you never made moves or dropped hints. You knew any sort of intimate relationship was out of the question, so it made no sense for Taeyong to act in such a manner. He was an android designed to be an idol, not a partner. Something had to be wrong. Yet when you checked the tablet it showed that Taeyong was perfectly fine. Nothing wrong with his hardware or software. Still, this feeling of something being off lingered.
đ€
After that incident nothing crazy happened again, and all the members were just focused on comeback preparations. They definitely had to undergo some maintenance before the big day and get plenty of rest. By then the company was already discussing with you about promoting you to the main manager position and getting a new assistant manager. Back then youâd jump at the chance, but at the moment you were a bit weary of taking the position. You were given time to think about it as per company policy, but you werenât sure what to do. Your own inappropriate feelings still lingered, as did the incident with Taeyong. You were starting to think it wasnât a good idea to stay, yet it also seemed too unfair to just leave the boys with completely new managers, especially during a comeback. You told yourself to just make it through this one, and then really decided whether youâd stay or go.
âY/n, I heard the news!â Jaemin cheered. âYouâre gonna be promoted to being our main manager! Thatâs awesome!â
âOh, you heardâŠ?â
âWell, Taeyong said he mentioned it to other staff cause youâve been filling in the position for so long and could use some help. Youâve basically been our main manager for weeks now, so it should be official.â
âAh, right.â You glanced over at Taeyong for a moment. âWell, itâs currently being discussed.â
âDiscussed? What do you mean? You donât want to be our manager anymore?â
âI just want us all to focus on the comeback before we talk about promotions and all that, alright.â
âBut-â
âStop nagging, Jaemin.â Johnny interrupted. âSheâs right, we gotta focus on our comeback right now. Here, I made you some coffee.â
âThanks.â
You were sitting in the corner while the boys underwent maintenance, drinking coffee and going over the schedule. You also needed to focus on the comeback above all else, but you were struggling to keep your eyes open. The exhaustion was catching up to you, so you figured you could take a little nap and then once the technician was done youâd head out. You made sure to set an alarm before closing your eyes. It never went off though. You didnât know for how long you were asleep, but when you opened your eyes it was rather quiet. You were still in the maintenance room, but the technician was gone, and all the boys were in their pods.Â
The technician probably felt it was best to let you sleep, and the soft hum of the machines could be quite soothing. If you slept through your alarm then you must have been tired. Regardless, you were up now and the boys were resting, so it was time to go. You gathered your things and went to the door only to find that it was locked. That was odd as you were told the doors were only ever locked when the boys were away on schedule. They were in here, and so were you, so it shouldnât be locked. Maybe it was some kind of mistake, and you just needed to call someone. Although when you started dialing on your phone someone suddenly grabbed your hand. You screamed before realizing it was Jaehyun. You had no idea when he got out of his pod.
âGosh, you scared me.â
âWhere are you going?â
âHuh? You should actually be resting, you need toâŠâ
You glanced back to notice all the pods were empty and the boys were starting to surround you. There wasnât any reason to fear them, but you were starting to get worried.
âYou should go back to your pods. I donât think you should be up so soon after-â
âWeâre perfectly fine.â
âYes, but protocol⊠and I need to call someone so-â
Jisung took your phone from your hand and when you tried to reach for it Johnny and Jaehyun began to drag you towards the pods.
âWait, stop, what are you doing!?â
Your strength was really no match for them and they shoved you into one of the pods. You slammed your palms against the glass, shouting over and over again.
âThis isnât funny! Let me out! Guys, Iâm serious!â
âItâs kinda unfair that youâre not like us.â Taeyong commented, standing at the control panel. âBut you can be, even if itâs just a little bit. Doesnât that sound nice?â
âTaeyong⊠what are you talking about?â
âDonât be scared.â
You had never seen the full extent of what went on in this room, or how things worked, but when these tendrils appeared from the top and bottom of the pod you began to freak out.
âTaeyong! Let me out!â
None of them listened as those tendrils wrapped around your limbs and pulled them taut. You were fully restrained in a matter of seconds, and no one seemed concerned about the situation besides yourself.
âThatâs enough! Stop it! Iâm not supposed to be in here!â
âYouâll be fine, we promise.â
âTaeyong⊠I donât know whatâs the meaning of this but-â
Your words were cut short as you felt this sharp pain in the back of your neck. You screamed and thrashed with what little movement you had. Then everything cut to black.
đ€
You jolted awake in your seat, frantically looking around and realizing where you were. The maintenance shop was quiet, and the scene was all too familiar. The boys were sleeping in their pods, and the technician was gone. The first thing you did was run for the door, stopping only when you realized it was open. You stood in the doorway for a moment, questioning everything. If that had all been some nightmare, it was incredibly vivid. Then you remembered how it ended and reached up to your neck. You didnât feel anything wrong, and there wasnât any pain either. Clearly you were stressed beyond what you even realized. It further made you question whether or not you should continue with the job.Â
Either way, you should go home now, so you grabbed your things and quietly made your exit. Even if it was just some messed up bad dream, it lingered in your mind. You couldnât make sense of it no matter how hard you tried. So it was better to just focus on work. The boys were their usual self and nothing was really out of the ordinary. Of course because of that dream there was this weariness that lingered in the back of your mind, but it wasnât fair to treat them differently just cause you had a nightmare involving them. It was all so confusing and messing with your head, but you did your best not to make them feel guilty over something that never happened. Soon enough the dream would fade and it wouldnât even bother you anymore.
âY/n! Can we have icees after our schedule today?â
âHuh? Oh, sure, Iâll prepare some.â
âThanks!â
They really liked the icees so they asked for it more often. At first you gave it to them as a reward or for celebration, but since they loved it so much you started making it for them whenever they asked.
âY/n, can I borrow your phone?â
âHuh? Why?â
âIâm bored, and I know you have games.â
âBut donât you⊠wait, you said you didnât have phones.â
âYeah, so can I borrow yours? Please, pretty please? Iâll give it back later.â
âOkay, fine.â
âAwesome, youâre the best!â
Sometimes it was easy to forget the boys didnât have basic things like a phone. By now yours was full of apps and theyâd play between schedules. Although sometimes theyâd drag you into some other games, wanting to hang out and be normal like everyone else. You enjoyed playing games with them, and when they asked you to dance you joined them. They liked to teach you their dances and you were more than happy to learn. Even though there was that mishap with Taeyong before, you seemed to be growing closer with the boys.
âY/n, can I ask you something?â
âHm?â
It was late into the night, and the current schedule had you filming for a music video. They had energy all day long, but you were growing tired from being up all day. You were resting in the dressing room when Jeno came by.
âCould I⊠have a kiss?â
âWhat?â
âI want to kiss you, will you let me?â
âUhâŠâ
âY/n, can I kiss you?â
â⊠sureâŠâ
Jeno happily sat down next to you, taking your head into his hands and caressing your cheeks before planting a kiss on your lips.
âSo cute.â
â⊠jeno⊠you⊠you shouldnât-â
âWhat are you two doing?â Jungwoo walked in. âYou should have locked the door, what if the staff caught you?â
âSorry, I just knew y/n was alone and-â
âI⊠I should go⊠I haveâŠâ
You got up, intending to go elsewhere but Jeno pulled you back down, having you sit in his lap so he could wrap his arms around you.
âCome on, donât be like that. Did you like my kiss?â
âIâŠâ
âWe can practice some more if it wasnât good. I want to do better and-â
âI need to leave.â
âNo, youâre not going anywhere, okay?â
â⊠okayâŠâ
Jeno snuggled against you, seeming very content. Then Jungwoo came over, petting your head for a bit.
âYouâre so adorable, you know that?â
âHuh?â
âY/n.â
âYes, Jungwoo.â
âWould you take us home?â
âI always drive you back to the company.â
âNo, no, that place isnât home. I mean, would you take us to your place?â
âMy place? Thatâs not a good idea.â
âPlease. We really want to see your home. Weâll be good, promise.â
â⊠okay⊠after weâre done filming⊠we can go to my placeâŠâ
âGreat, Iâll tell the others. Theyâre gonna be so excited.â
The two stayed with you for a bit until they were needed back on set. Once gone you were able to think more about what they asked. It wasnât a good idea to take them to your place, even if they wanted to see it. At least not at this time. When everything finished up the boys were excited, but you had to break the bad news.
âLook, guys, I know Jungwoo said I was going to take you to my place, but I canât. Itâs late and surely the company would realize I took you elsewhere cause of the tracking-â
âDonât worry about that.â Taeyong cut in. âSo letâs just go, okay?â
âUh⊠okay.â
They were all so excited to see where you lived. On the drive there you told yourself it wasnât that late, and theyâd just be over for a little while, so it wouldnât be a problem. Youâd show them around, let them explore and ask questions, then take them back. They were so excited when you showed them the little place you called home. You lived alone, so you didnât need much, but for them it was probably everything. The only semblance of a home they had ever known was the maintenance shop, so they adored everything about your place. They basically made themselves at home.
âY/n.â
âHm? Yes?â
âHow come you live here?â
âWhat do you mean?â
âThe company offers housing near the main building. You could move there and be closer to us.â Jisung mentioned. âThen we could come over more often.â
âOh that, I know about the company housing, but I like it here.â
âYou should be closer to us.â Jaemin countered. âYouâre gonna be our main manager soon, so you shouldnât be so far away.â
âI⊠nothing is official yet, and Iâm not-â
âYouâre going to be our manager.â Taeyong stated. âThereâs no point denying that.â
âIâŠâ
Your head started to feel a bit fuzzy, your vision blurring as well. The boys noticed and had you sit down, one getting you some water.
âItâs best not to argue with us. If you donât fight us, then there wonât be any pain.â
â⊠what?â
Despite the headache you were trying to make sense of what was going on. You didnât understand what they were talking about, but then something came to mind. Maybe that nightmare wasnât a bad dream after all. You reached up to your neck, but there was nothing out of the ordinary. Still, you couldnât shake this feeling.
â⊠what⊠what did you do to me?â
âWhat are you talking about?â Johnny questioned. âWeâre just here-â
âYou threw me into one of your pods! And⊠and⊠I⊠I donât knowâŠâ
âHuh, Iâm surprised you remember that. You werenât supposed to.â
âWhat is going on!?â You jumped to your feet, stepping away from the boys. âWhat did you do!? My head⊠everything has been weird lately, and itâs cause you did something!â
âY/n, calm down, we havenât done anything.â Jaehyun mentioned. âAre you okay?â
âStop it! Johnny just admitted to what you did! I just⊠I donâtâŠâ
âIf you think about it too much your headâs just gonna hurt.â
You wanted to get away, but the problem here was that you were trapped. This was your home, and if you just left the boys here youâd be in major trouble. The whole situation was bad, and you had no idea what to do. Something here was very wrong, they did something, yet this innocent act made no sense. You needed to be alone, just to clear your head and then figure out what needed to be done. Except they werenât gonna let that happen.
âCome here, you donât have to be scared.â
âNo, no, no! Stay back! Donât come-â
Even if you wanted them to stay away, you couldnât really run. They easily had you cornered, and before panic could really set in everything kinda stopped. Jisung got close to you first, and when his fingers touched your temple this charge of electricity ran through your head. It was nothing serious, but just enough to discombobulate you. The boys had you sit back down, Jisung keeping a hold of your hand.
âYou have to be careful with that, Jisung.â Jeno commented. âIf the voltage is too high it could hurt her.â
âI know, thatâs why I practiced.â
âWell, a strong enough hit would likely make her forget the last couple of minutes.â Jaemin remarked. âWhat about the other thing?â
â⊠IâŠâ You started mumbling. â⊠Iâm scaredâŠâ
âNo, no, donât be.â Jungwoo knelt down before you, placing his hands on your knees. âWeâre not gonna hurt you. Weâre just looking out for you.â
âYou know we care about our fans.â Jisung added. âAnd youâre our special czennie. With you by our side we can have more freedom, just like you want for us, right?â
â⊠I⊠yes⊠but⊠but⊠what did you⊠do⊠I donâtâŠâ
âItâs nothing harmful, we promise.â Taeyong said. âItâs just a small implant so we can track your vitals and location among other things. Just like what you do for us.â
â⊠why⊠did I⊠do something⊠badâŠ?â
âNo, of course not. Itâs the opposite. We want the same thing, and together we can have it all.â
â⊠huhâŠ?â
âWe know change takes time, but with you on our side itâs possible.â
âFor starters you should move closer to the company.â Johnny came over to pet your head. âThat way weâd have somewhere else to go thatâs company approved. Donât you want us to have a better space to rest?â
âI⊠I doâŠâ
âThen, with you as our main manager you could help us get more.â Jaehyun mentioned. âWe could get a proper dorm, do some activities outside of comebacks. The company would listen to you more than us about these things.â
âWe should help you start packing now.â Jaemin suggested. âThe sooner you move the better. That way you wonât be all alone out here either.â
â⊠wait, wait⊠thatâs-â
You whimpered as your head was starting to hurt. The words all around you werenât registering properly, but a bit here and there was making sense. Nothing really sounded all that great, but you werenât sure what you could do to oppose them. You were trying to argue, to make this a discussion and not some demand, but trying to talk hurt. Then the hand on your head sent another electric shock through your body and everything went black.
đ€
You groaned awake, peeking your eyes open and seeing the blurry outline of your room. As you sat up you felt your head spinning, but it soon settled down. You looked over at the time, you woke up before your alarm but there was no point in trying to go back to bed. You got up and got ready for the day, being cautious to avoid the boxes scattered around. It wasnât just another day, you had important things to do. The commute was the same, but when you got to the company you went to the higher ups. It was about time you gave them an answer. Taking on the position of main manager for NCT would be a big shift for you, but youâd certainly enjoy the pay raise. Even though youâd be doing mostly the same things, the company could start looking for your own assistant manager. On top of that you brought up the company housing.
It would benefit everyone if you were closer, and you certainly wanted a spacious area. The latter could be discussed later, but at least everything was set in motion. The boys were happy to see you so early and when you shared the news they were overjoyed. They volunteered to help you move, but you said youâd have to see cause they couldnât just be doing things like that, especially so close to the company. Although Jeno brought up the lovely point that youâd be able to sleep in a bit more, and that was truly a blessing. Of course when it was time to move the boys were there despite your protests. They wanted to see your new place, and definitely hang out. They loved it just as much as you did.
âWe should totally come here after schedules.â Jaemin said. âCan we keep icees in the freezer!â
âWhat if she accidentally eats one?â Jungwoo questioned. âShe can just make some when we want.â
âThi is her place.â Jaehyun reminded. âWe canât just impose.â
âYou boys are always welcome here.â You offered. âAs long as you donât cause trouble.â
âYou know we behave ourselves.â Jeno teased. âItâs how we were made. We canât possibly do anything wrong.â
âHm⊠if you say so.â
âCan we have icees though?â Jisung questioned. âTo celebrate your moving day. You have to have one too. What flavor matches? Green apple?â
âOkay, okay, but I need to get some from-â
âWe brought some bottles.â Johnny interrupted. âFigured theyâd come in handy.â
âArenât those supposed to stay at the company when youâre not on schedule?â
âNo oneâs gonna know as long as we donât tell.â
âFine, just have patience.â
âIâll order your icee then!â Jaemin volunteered. âCan I borrow your phone?â
âItâs on the coffee table.â
âThanks.â
The boys were certainly making themselves at home, and it was nice to see them being normal. They werenât just idols here, but seven boys enjoying a nice treat. This was something you had always wanted to see, and it was great to know you helped make this come true. There were lots of good times ahead, and you were eager to see it all.
âSheâs so cute when she sleeps.â
Jaemin sat on the floor, watching you sleep on the sofa. It was late into the night, and despite trying to stay awake you eventually dozed off. Jaemin reached over to pet your head, knowing you werenât gonna wake up anytime soon.
âDonât idols tend to live with their managers?â Jisung questioned. âDoes that mean we can live here with y/n?â
âEasy now. She just got promoted.â Jaehyun reminded. âShe has to settle in first before we can talk about that.â
âJust be patient.â Taeyong stated. âThis is only the first step in getting everything we want.â
The new taemin fic was soo good! I missed ur writing so much <3
;-; Nonnie, thank you so much! I know it took me so long to write, but I am glad I managed to get something out there and that it's being well received. Taemin deserves the best and I hope I don't hit such a bad writers block again.
Thanks so much for your love and support Nonnie! I hope you have a wonderful day/night!
I think you will like the drama and for the request I wanted it to be something similar to the character cho gyucheol (but not entirely the replica of that) and the reader to be a bit younger than him!
Since the character doesnât have much storyline I think mixing up some of with pi hanwool from study (only if you have watched it!) would do wonders!
Sorry for a late reply, the power went out in my neighborhood, and it only recently returned. Yay!
*googles name* O.o
This is like Brave Citizen all over again, y'all want me to do villains and I love ya for it >_< It makes me all the more excited and eager to watch the shows. Plus a Pi Hanwool mention! Gosh, I adored Study Group, so good and I can't wait for another season. Villains are certainly more fun! Once I watch the show I'll have a better idea on what to do and add it to the list.
Thanks so much Nonnie! I hope you have a wonderful day/night!
Hi I am the anon who asked about heeseung! Thank you for making an exception for him honestly:(( I am so grateful for that!
And I donât know if you have watched teach you a lesson (itâs a new drama) but I had a request revolving around that!
Omg! I haven't seen it yet but I've seen so many clips and I'm gonna watch it soon! I'm more than happy to binge it to figure out this idea sooner, kinda did that for Yunho's Dear X story, so I'm all ears.
Heyyyy are you going to open your requests anytime soon? Just wondering because I had a request for heeseung lol
Technically no cause I haven't finished the ones I have on my current list... But I could be willing to make an exception for Heeseung... It would still be a bit before such a story sees the light of day but I am curious... What were ya thinking?

âItâs almost my birthdayâŠâ
For a long time you dreaded your birthday. Every year that you got older you got closer to something that terrified you. Things were different in the present now. You were free, you were safe, and you werenât alone. Taemin was by your side. He was a childhood friend. You both grew up together in this community, isolated from the rest of the world. As kids you never really saw a problem with your way of living. Yet as you grew older, understanding more of the world, you began to see how this wasnât exactly good. You couldnât leave the community, and the rules were strict on keeping your knowledge of the outside world limited. Even asking about things beyond the community walls was forbidden and taboo. If you didnât follow the rules or caused trouble, youâd surely be punished.
In theory one might find such a life peaceful and comforting, but there was more going on here. The leader, the high priest, he led the people here to worship this prince of darkness. The thing is, this wasnât just some manipulation tactic or form of control. It was real, and you had bore witness to it your whole life. The people in the community did not get ill, and any sort of injury healed in a matter of minutes, from minor cuts to broken bones. The crops were always bountiful, and cattle were always healthy and providing. You all lived a good life, but of course such a gift had a price. One person from every generation would be sacrificed when they reached the age of twenty, and it wasnât a beautiful or peaceful death. The chosen one would be stabbed in the heart with a cursed dagger and left to bleed out in the town center where what was named the fountain of life stood.
At the age of fifteen you were chosen as the sacrifice. It should have been an honor, but you didnât see it that way, you didnât want to die. So you made plans to run away. You were careful and took your time, knowing you at least needed to be an adult to really succeed. When you finally turned eighteen you made your move. You had packed some food, figuring out a direction to head in, and intending to sneak away in the night. Yet you barely made it to the perimeter fence when you were discovered. Not by the high priest or one of the others, but your friend, Taemin. You didnât know what to say to him, you had no idea what he would do, and you were terrified. If you failed to get away youâd never have another chance. Taemin understood immediately what you were doing, and to your own surprise he had no intention of exposing you. Instead, he joined you, and the two of you escaped together.
It certainly wasnât easy traversing the real world. To you both it was foreign and new, and incredibly dangerous. Still, together you managed to figure things out. You got a job at a warehouse, packaging items and moving boxes around. It was quiet and didnât require socializing, so it kept you hidden. The last thing you wanted was to draw attention to yourself, and this worked in your favor. Funny enough Taemin worked at the same place, but he was over in the office building. He kept an eye on you and the things around you, acting like a sort of shield. It was nice, and at the end of the day you got to go home together to the apartment you lived in. For the most part your lives were peaceful, and you werenât constantly looking over your shoulder. A few birthdays came and went without incident, but now that you were approaching the important one you were reminded of the fact that maybe you werenât as free as you thought.
One night, after a long day at work, your dreams took you somewhere new. You found yourself in an endless void, completely alone. You tried to find someone else, something else, but there was nothing. You ran and ran but the darkness never ended. That was the nightmare at first, but then it began to evolve. After more pointless running you collapsed to catch your breath, only to freeze up when you heard footsteps. You had no idea what that meant, but the sound kept getting closer and closer. Youâd tightly shut your eyes, not wanting to see whatever that was, and eventually youâd wake up, but you knew it was only a matter of time before something else happened. Taemin had noticed you werenât sleeping so well anymore, and when he asked about it you admitted to your recent nightmares. Taemin seemed to understand the cause, and that terrified you.
âHey, hey, this doesnât mean anything bad is gonna happen. Itâs probably just stress and nothing more.â
âIt feels ominousâŠâ
âWeâve lived freely for over two years now, they arenât going to find us.â
âThatâs not who Iâm afraid ofâŠâ
âHm?â
âThe demon⊠thatâs the one haunting my dreams⊠thatâs the one thatâs after meâŠâ
âThese are just stress dreams, nothing more. Weâve distanced ourselves from that terrible place, it has no power over us.â
âI was supposed to be the sacrifice⊠what if that thing marked me somehow?â
âSurely it would have done so way back then and not now.â
ââŠâ
âY/n, youâre okay, weâre okay. This will all come to pass, youâll see.â
âI hope so.â
You really wanted to believe Taemin, and for the most part his words did bring you comfort, but the nightmares persisted. You tried running from the footsteps, but they always seemed to be right behind you. Then things changed again. There was silence in the darkness and for a moment you thought things were getting better.Â
âWhy do you keep running?â
A voice in the darkness sent a chill down your spine. Things were definitely not getting any better. The footsteps started up again, but you shut your eyes and refused to turn around.
âI would never hurt you.â
â⊠please⊠please just leave me aloneâŠâ
âIâm afraid I canât do that.â
â⊠why⊠why me⊠couldnât you pick someone elseâŠâ
âIt was always you, darling, from the very beginningâ
You woke with a start, out of breath and taking in your surroundings. Your eyes slowly adjusted and you saw that you were in your room. It was a relief to see things in the dark, assuring you that you were not dreaming. You got out of bed once you felt better, going over to the bathroom to splash water in your face and calm down. Then you felt a sudden pain in your chest. You collapsed to the floor, feeling this burning sensation over your heart. When the pain subsided you got back up, looking in the mirror and seeing this black blotch on your chest, right where your heart was.
â⊠no⊠no⊠no⊠what is this, what is this!â
You quickly turned on the faucet, trying to rub away the mark as if it was just paint, but nothing happened. Tears blurred your vision but you kept scrubbing, wanting that mark gone by any means. Your commotion must have been loud as moments later Taemin burst into your room and found you. At first you tried to hide yourself, but he wasnât going to let you. He forced you to face him and saw what was happening.
â⊠what⊠what is thatâŠ?â
âI⊠I donât know⊠it just appearedâŠâ
You admitted to Taemin what had happened in your recent dream. About that demon speaking to you, telling you that there was no escape. You fully broke down speaking this all out loud. Taemin cradled you in his arms, trying to comfort you, but he knew that wasnât going to be easy. As much as he tried to assure you that nothing bad was going to happen, this certainly wasnât a good sign.
âItâs gonna be okay, no oneâs going to hurt you, youâre not gonna be some sacrifice.â
â⊠Iâm scaredâŠâ
âI know, but Iâm right here with you.â
You didnât know how long the two of you just stayed together. Your chest hurt from trying to get the mark off, and the tears kept flowing for a while. You exhausted yourself and somehow fell asleep, for once not dreaming of anything at all. It was actually the best sleep you had in a while, but unfortunately, in the morning the mark was still there. Last night wasnât a really bad dream, it was real. You tried not to dwell on the situation but it lingered in the back of your mind and kept you on edge. Taemin was well aware of this too, insisting that you sleep with him. It did help keep the nightmares away, but it didnât change your reality. With your birthday approaching you only got more worried.
âWhy donât we go somewhere else for your birthday.â
âHuh?â
âLetâs go out of town, go far away, even if for a while.â
âI like that idea.â
âCool. You should pick a place and we can make plans from there.â
âAlright.â
On your day off you looked into places to go. A few caught your eye and you made notes, wanting Taeminâs input as well. You were more tired than you knew and wound up falling asleep for a bit. Without Taemin around you found yourself back in the nightmarish void. The second you heard those footsteps you ran, but just like countless times before you were being chased. This time around your running did take you somewhere new. Since you couldnât see where you were going you wound up falling into this black pool. You knew how to swim, yet this water seemed alive in its own way, keeping you from getting back on your feet.
âPlease! Please, I donât want to die!â
âWho says you were going to die?â
âStop! I know⊠Iâve seen it⊠I donât want to die⊠please⊠please just let me liveâŠâ
âIâve never forgotten your words of devotion. So kind, so beautiful, just like you. What happened to all that love?â
âI was a child! I didnât know any better! I⊠I was afraidâŠâ
âYou still are.â
â⊠please⊠pleaseâŠâ
âYou have nothing to fear from me.â
You couldnât believe such words, and it all felt so hopeless. You kept trying to escape, to break free, but instead the water seemed to wrap around your body, dragging you into its endless depths. When you went under you woke up screaming, desperately gasping in air.
âY/n, y/n!â
Taemin heard you from the other room and came running over. He quickly pulled you into his arms, trying to calm you down.
You definitely didnât want to sleep again, so you opted to just watch TV. Taemin stayed by your side, messing around with your hair and trying to help you relax. Peaceful moments like this were what you needed, and what you hoped would remain when this was all over. Later on you two discussed your plans for the big day. You did decide to travel, planning to head out early tomorrow morning and go to a certain place for lunch and then another for dinner. You laid out the whole plan, knowing to be cautious, even if it was your special day. Besides that you wanted to stay up until midnight, so it was best to sleep early. With Taemin around you didnât have nightmares and you could kinda look forward to the day to come. Afterall Taemin would certainly do whatever he could to make the day wonderful and make you smile.
âHappy Birthday!â
You were up early the next morning, and after washing up Taemin surprised you with a muffin and a candle. He sang for you, bringing a smile to your face.
âThe actual cake will be later, but I wanted to start celebrating right away.â
âThank you, Taemin.â
âGo on, you can make a mini wish and blow out the candle. Iâll do my best to grant it.â
âThis is already a good start.â
More than anything you wished for this day to be simple and happy, but the muffin was meant for a small wish. So you wished for Taemin to stay by your side, always, but today more than anything. You blew out the candle and Taemin handed over your little treat.
âIâll take our stuff down to the car.â
âAlright. Iâll finish cleaning up so we can get going.â
âAwesome.â
You finish up your muffin and grab the bags by the door, heading down to the building parking lot. The sun had yet to peek over the horizon but there was some light in the sky, just enough to see. The day looked to be a pretty one. As you were putting the bags in the car you suddenly felt these eyes on you. When you looked around it seemed that no one else was present, but something didnât feel right. Maybe you shouldnât have come down by yourself. Regardless, you did your best to remain calm and make your way back to the apartment. After a few steps you heard another set of footsteps behind you. Despite your better judgement you broke out into a run, screaming, but someone was quick to catch up and muffle you. That didnât stop you from trying to fight back, but soon enough others showed up, dragging you along elsewhere.
âTaemin!â
You managed to make one feeble cry for help, but it was truly a desperate attempt. Much of the world wasnât awake at these hours, and Taemin wasnât exactly close by. You were properly gagged after that stunt, feeling some rope around your wrists being used to tie your hands behind your back. You kept struggling, growing desperate with every passing moment. Then there was a second of relief.
âY/N!â
Hearing Taeminâs voice, looking over to see him running in your direction, the world seemed to slow down for a bit. At least you werenât alone anymore, but his appearance seemed to bring more trouble. A bag was suddenly placed over your head, and you felt more hands on you. These people lifted you off the ground, and your thrashing only got more violent. That is until you heard a gunshot. Your body stopped, dread seeping into every bit of your body. You screamed through the gag, fearing the worst, and so focused on what might have happened that you didnât really notice the pinch on your arm. It wasnât until you were starting to fall asleep that you realized you had been sedated. The adrenaline running through your system wasnât enough to counteract the drug, but you still fought back. You didnât want to slip into darkness, but at the same time you werenât sure you could handle knowing what happened with that gun shot.
đ€
âTaemin!â
You jolted awake, looking around frantically as you took in your surroundings. You werenât sure what to expect, but being surrounded by the familiarity of your own living room was rather confusing. This didnât make sense, and then you heard noise coming from down the hall, seeing Taemin.
âYouâre awake.â
âYouâre alive!â
You quickly got up and ran to hug him, losing your footing a bit from the rapid movement. Taemin managed to catch you though, holding you tight. You were still processing, suddenly remembering the gunshot and pulling back, frantically examining Taemin.
âAre you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?â
âIâm fine.â
âAre you sure? I heard the gun and-â
You froze when Taemin took your head in his hands, forcing your gaze to meet his. Worry reflected in his eyes.
âIâm alright, but what about you? I thought⊠I thought I was hearing things, but something told me to check on youâŠâ
âI⊠Iâm okay⊠I just⊠I was so scaredâŠâ
âMe too, but weâre okay. I got you.â
Taemin pulled you back into his arms, holding you close and cradling your head. You were both glad the other was okay, but the whole morning had certainly ruined the day. The sun was already high in the sky, so your original plans were cancelled.
âTaeminâŠâ
âHm?â
âWhat happenedâŠâ
âThey missed, but the gunfire was loud and police were called. They showed up quickly and took care of the situation. I didnât want to take you away from home after all that, besides, the police are still lingering around, so itâs safer here. I am sorry though.â
âFor what?â
âYour day got ruinedâŠâ
âI mean⊠itâs been ruined for years in all honesty, as long as I have you, thatâs good enough for me.â
âI feel the same way.â Taemin pet your head. âWe should get some actual food though, do you want to order in? You can also pick what kind of cake you want. We can order a chocolate one, a cream one, an ice cream one, whatever you want.â
âHm, letâs eat first and figure out the cake later.â
âSounds good.â
You didnât mind staying home, it did feel safe, and with police around you could let your guard down a bit more. As long as you made it to midnight, youâd be alright. Sleeping again wasnât an option you wanted to consider so you figured a movie marathon was a fun way to spend the day. There were a bunch of films you wanted to catch up on, so this worked out. You ordered some food and enjoyed your lazy day with Taemin. This was more than enough, and it got you thinking about something. You and Taemin werenât anything official, yet you were rather close for being just friends. It was a conversation neither of you ever brought up, but you wanted to. Maybe not right now, but when this whole day was over with. That way you could mark your survival with the beginning of a new chapter in your life.
At some point there was a knock at the door, which startled you, but Taemin assured you it was just the cake he had ordered. You decided to let him choose the cake, and he knew what you liked, so you were curious to see what he got, but youâd let that be a surprise for later. From the comfort of your apartment you both watched the sunset. It was always pretty, but this one meant more, and you were greatly looking forward to sunrise. Since night had fallen Taemin figured it was time for cake. You stayed put as he went to get everything ready, closing your eyes when he asked you to. Moments later he began to sing and you opened your eyes, seeing the cake in his hands. You listened joyfully as he sang for you, his smile just as bright as yours. Now it was time to make a real wish and you knew exactly what it was. You took a moment to make the wish in your heart and then blew out the candles. Since it was a small cake just for the two of you it didnât need to be cut into slices, the two of you just dug in with some utensils.
âWhat did you wish for?â
âYou know Iâm not supposed to say.â
âWell I promise to make it come true.â
âYou donât know what it is.â
âAs long as I make sure you live a good and happy life, Iâm sure I can make all your dreams come true.â
You smiled and leaned against Taemin, getting another mouthful of cake. It wasnât midnight yet, but you didnât want to wait much longer to say what you wanted to. The only problem was your nerves. Between eating cake and watching TV you were working up the courage to express your feelings. This was long overdue, but you were still struggling. You didnât think Taemin would reject you but the possibility was still there. You glanced outside at the night sky, reminded of the day and the importance of it. You had done crazier things just to survive, and this was just another crazy thing to do, one you could do too.
âTaeminâŠâ
âHm?â
âI wanted to⊠talk to you⊠about somethingâŠâ
âYeah, whatâs up?â
âUh⊠wellâŠâ
Taemin realized you were struggling with your words and muted the TV, giving you his full attention. That didnât help calm you down, but you werenât gonna back out now.
âI wanted to ask if-â
The words suddenly caught in your throat. For a second you thought it was nerves, but you suddenly felt this pain in your chest. You soon realized it was that mark on your chest that was burning, yet there was more. Something was stuck in your throat, and you soon found yourself coughing up blood. When you saw the red stain your eyes went wide with panic and fear. Your worst nightmare was coming true.
â⊠no⊠noâŠâ
âY/n!â
Taeminâs voice was muffled, and your vision was blurring. You fell to your hands and knees, but instead of feeling the hard floor beneath you, the ground was wet. You couldnât properly understand the sensation, but your vision was losing focus on everything. You thought Taemin would help you, but you never felt his touch. As your vision blurred your surroundings seemed to change as well. You werenât at your apartment anymore, but water seemed to surround you, making you grow cold. Muffled voices began to fade in and you desperately tried to focus your strength. You glanced up, seeing you were no longer home, but somewhere else entirely. At first it seemed foreign but as your vision cleared in waves you could see where you were. It was the last place you ever wanted to be.
Now that you understood where you were, it made no sense. Moments ago you were at home with Taemin, and now you found yourself on your hands and knees in the fountain of life. Although you didnât really have time to understand what was happening. Realizing where you were brought attention to something else. You were losing strength but you still looked down at your chest, seeing the truth. There was a dagger in your heart, and you were bleeding out. That was the pain you had felt all along. You coughed up more blood, collapsing into the water. Blurry figures were around, all watching you, and you knew no one was going to help you. This fate was what you had tried to run away from, yet it still caught you in the end. You had no idea how it happened, and it didnât stop the tears slipping down your cheeks. You wanted Taemin, you wanted to know if he was okay, if he was alive, but there was nothing you could do now but embrace your destiny.
đ€
âHappy Birthday, My Love.â
You inhaled sharply as you regained consciousness, soon coughing up blood and water. Your senses werenât all there, but you couldnât ignore the pain in your chest. Without any hesitation you reached for the dagger in your heart and pulled it out. For a moment you stared at the instrument stained with your blood, not truly understanding how you could do such a thing. You should be dead, yet you seemed to be alive despite everything that happened. You dropped the dagger, noticing the water in the fountain had turned black. Although your attention soon turned to the crowd around the fountain. You were surrounded by unfortunately familiar faces, and they were all staring in shock. This wasnât supposed to happen, it never had before.
âWhat is the meaning of this!?â The high priestâs voice drew attention. âHow are you alive!?â
âI-â
âWho are you to question me?â
That dark voice cut through all the commotion, causing silence to fall. The water in the fountain began to move, a bunch of bubbles rising from one area. Something was coming, the demon was coming. You needed to get out of the fountain yet when you tried to move you couldnât. You looked down to see the black water rising up your legs and holding you in place. Your heart was pounding in your chest, realizing you were stuck here and had no choice but to witness what came next. This whole thing felt like one of your nightmares, like the next chapter. You stood in that cursed fountain, watching as something began to rise from the water, and when you saw what it was you did not understand it at all.
â⊠taeminâŠ?â
Out of the water Taemin seemed to rise. You were still trying to process, but the first thing you noticed was the rips in his clothes. They were bullet holes, multiple ones.Â
â⊠how⊠whatâŠâ
âYouâre supposed to be dead!â The high priest proclaimed. âThe both of you!â
âThat is not my will.âÂ
âWhat?â
âDo you not recognize the one youâve worshipped for the entirety of your existence?â
The demon stepped closer and closer to the edge of the fountain. The eyes were completely black and even though Taeminâs lips were moving, the voice that you heard was not his own. It was that of a demons, the demon that had been haunting you and hunting you all this time. This wasnât your Taemin, but that demon using his face. It broke your heart to see him like this and you couldnât stand it.
âGet out of him!â You screamed. âLeave Taemin out of this! He doesnât-â
Your voice made the demon stop in its tracks and turn to you. The darkness in their eyes disappeared and for a moment you could believe that was your Taemin. He smiled at you just like always, coming over to you.
âItâs me, y/n, Iâm right here.â
â⊠no⊠no, youâre not Taemin! You-â
âItâs okay, y/n.â Taemin took your head in his hands. âIâm okay.â
â⊠no⊠you⊠they⊠Iâm sorry⊠Iâm so sorry⊠this is all my faultâŠâ
âItâs not, donât say that.â
âI⊠I got you killed⊠I-â
âNo, no, no, you did nothing wrong. Iâm not dead, these mortals could do me no harm. Iâve just been trying to protect you.â
â⊠what?â
âYour birthday was supposed to be special. Yet these fools ruined everything.â
âI donât understandâŠâ
âI was going to explain everything after your-â
âWhat is the meaning of this!â
The voice of the high priest drew both your attention. You were still terrified and not understanding what was going on, but Taemin, or this demon, seemed annoyed. The darkness returned to Taeminâs eyes. He stepped in front of you, glaring at the high priest. Then his gaze swept over to the crowd gathered around.
âKneel, and Iâll consider sparing your lives.â
âWho are you to-â
âKNEEL!â
The loud voice startled everyone, and some fell to their knees in fear. You would have too, but you were still stuck in place. The high priest was one of those that held their ground though, further annoying the demon.
âFor generations I have given so much to this little congregation. Youâve reaped from the fruits of my power in exchange for what? Your eternal worship? Your undying devotion? Your souls?â The demon laughed. âIâve grown tired of this, so I left with what was mine. I showed you mercy by leaving you alive, yet you had to ruin it all.â
It seemed that those words finally got through. Not to mention the fact the clear skies were becoming clouded, and the wind was picking up. Those who were still standing fell to their knees, including the high priest.
âYour highness, please, we merely did as you asked.â
âI donât recall commanding you to hunt down anyone.â
âThat child was your chosen sacrifice, if we did not offer them up to you, weâd surely face your wrath.â
âAs you are now. That child was gone for years and yet you only found them now? It sounds like you werenât even trying.â
âForgive us, we were only trying to do right by you.â
âIndeed. Iâm the one at fault here for believing I could leave you breathing.â
â⊠your highnessâŠ?â
âIf I truly want to be done with this place, I must reduce it to nothing.â
â⊠your highness⊠we have-â
âIâll be quick.â
A sword made of black flames materialized in Taeminâs hand, his clothes beginning to change as well. You watched as he basically transformed into this elegant figure, dressed in what you could only describe as royal attire, completely black with bits of red here and there. He looked so different, yet in that outfit you could truly believe him to be the prince of darkness you worshipped in your early years. You snapped out of it as you saw Taemin stepping towards the crowd around the fountain.
âNo! Wait! Donât-â
âYou donât need to worry. I wonât hurt you.â
Before you could say anything more you felt this force pull you under. The fountain itself wasnât that deep, yet you were completely submerged. That should have given you a hint as to what was really happening, but you were more focused on the fact you couldnât hold your breath underwater for that long. The surface was so close and you swam up to reach it only to find yourself trapped. Instead of breaking through the water your hands pressed against some invisible wall, keeping you under. You began to panic, moving around and trying to find some way to break through. Your chest was starting to burn and you began to wonder if this was to be your true end. You tried to hold out for as long as you could but eventually you had to breathe.
People said drowning could be peaceful, but when you finally let the water in nothing happened. Instead you found yourself breathing normally. You didnât understand how this was possible. You were underwater, you felt the cold all around you, yet you could breathe just fine. You examined yourself, but you hadnât magically grown gills. This didnât make sense, maybe you were dreaming, but either way you werenât fearing for your life anymore. Then you heard screams. You knew where they were coming from above the water, but you couldnât see anything from down here. As you looked around you couldnât even tell where the edge of the fountain was. Wherever you were, it appeared vast and endless, so you figured it was best to just stay put and wait to see what happened. Your gaze returned to the surface that was just out of reach, seeing the sky above covered in storm clouds.
It was calm and quiet for a moment, then bright strikes of lightning filled the sky. An ominous feeling began to take hold. You couldnât just remain complacent, you had to do something. So you tried again to break through to the surface, but you were still trapped. You were screaming underwater, not knowing what was going on just out of view. There was no sense of time down there, so you couldnât tell how long you had been underwater. You still kept trying, so unaware of the looming shadow approaching you. Next thing you knew something wrapped around your wrist and pulled you out of the water with ease. Your full body was lifted above the water and slowly let down, and when you felt the ground you saw the water was just barely above your ankles. Although you soon realized your surroundings had changed.
The buildings of this place were on fire. A raging storm of flames had engulfed everything, and then you noticed the bodies on the floor. During the sacrificial ritual everyone wore white, so you could clearly see the stains of red that decorated the ground. You could still hear faint screams in the distance, but the shock of it all kept you in place. This was a massacre, that demon that everyone had once worshipped was truly burning this all to the ground. You didnât know what to do anymore, you didnât know what any of this meant. A shaky hand reached up to your chest. You could see the tear in your clothes, but there was no wound in your chest. Even that dark mark had completely disappeared. You were perfectly fine, but you werenât sure if this was real life or some messed up afterlife.
âYouâre alive and well, I assure you.â
That haunting voice drew your attention, and you turned back to see Taemin approaching the fountain, approaching you. Despite the chaos around, the disaster he had caused, he seemed perfectly fine. His clothes remained pristine, and not a single strand of hair was out of place. He stood at the edge of the fountain, holding his hand out to you. The darkness in his eyes faded and you could see your Taemin once more, but you didnât want to believe that was the person you had known all these years. Instead you fell to your knees, bowing your head.
âYour highness⊠please have mercy.â
âI said I wasnât going to hurt you, and you can just call me Taemin.â
You shook your head. âThat wouldnât be appropriate.â
Tears were running down your cheeks as fear was taking hold. All of this was so cruel, and to leave you as the last one alive, it was horrific. You didnât want to die here, let alone like this, but it was weighing on you that you couldnât escape your fate.Â
âY/n, itâs me.â
Another force suddenly pulled you forward and onto your feet until you were at the edge of the fountain standing before Taemin. The smile on his face, the shine in his eyes. He was Taemin, he looked so much like him but you couldnât believe it, you didnât want to.
âWhat⊠what happened to TaeminâŠâ
âY/n, itâs always been me, this is who I am.â
â⊠I donât understandâŠâ
âLike I said before, Iâve gotten tired of this place, so I intended to leave. You see, I didnât choose you as a sacrifice, but my final offering. All these years I had seen mortals care for one another, love each other, yet it wasnât the same as the worship I received. Those feelings were never real, and I wanted something real. I should have something for myself after all this, to have made it worth all those years. So I chose to live among this congregation, and you were quite lovely.â
â⊠you⊠there⊠there was never⊠I⊠your highness I apologize for not-â
âSh, sh, sh, thereâs no need for any of that. I wanted you to know me as I am, and I wanted to know you as well.â
â⊠Iâm sorryâŠâ
âWhat are you apologizing for now?â
â⊠runningâŠâ
âAh, that.â Taemin chuckled. âWe had so much fun here. We made a lot of good memories, I genuinely didnât know the thought of running away had crossed your mind. That night I just knew something was off with you, and when I found you trying to escape, I was rather impressed. In a way we both had the same idea.â
Taemin reached over to take your hand, gently pulling you along so youâd get out of the fountain. As you stepped out your clothes seemed to return to their normal state, and his clothes returned to normal as well.Â
âYou wanted to leave this place as much as I did, so it was only right to run away together. If I had things my way, we never would have come back.â
â⊠if⊠if thatâs all true⊠then why⊠the nightmares⊠the mark⊠why would you do thatâŠ?â
âIâm sorry. In order for you to truly be mine, somethings couldnât be avoided. Like the mark, and your death.â
âI⊠I died⊠I-â
âSh, sh, sh, youâre okay now, youâre alive. You were always going to live. My original plan was to complete the sacrifice while you were in a deep sleep, that way youâd never know or feel pain, but these pathetic mortals had to ruin everything.â
âSo⊠I⊠I never escaped⊠I was always⊠going to dieâŠâ
âI was hoping to soothe you in your dreams, but your fears made it difficult and I didnât want to hurt you. Iâm sorry for everything.â
âI still donât⊠understand⊠you⊠Taemin⊠youâre the prince of darkness⊠a powerful demonâŠ?â
âYes.â
âAll those yearsâŠâ
âI heard everything you ever told me.â Taemin chuckled. âYou were so adorable as a child.â
âAnd you⊠ran away from this place⊠with me?â
âIt does sound funny when you think about it. A demon running away from those that worship it in order to live in peace with a mortal. I did intend to tell you the truth eventually, but I wanted this all to come to pass first.â
âTaemin?â
âYes.â
âDo you⊠care about me?â
Taemin smiled. âAlways. Shall we continue where we left off? You had something to tell me.â
âI⊠IâŠâ
âI know what was on your mind, and the feeling is mutual, but I would like to hear you say it.â
âAll our time together⊠was any of it real?â
âEvery moment. My heart is yours, just as your heart is mine.â
Taemin still had your hands in his. The touch was familiar and gentle. Your gaze swept your surroundings, seeing the fire all around, yet it wasnât all that terrifying. This sense of calm was starting to wash over you. Then you met Taeminâs eyes. They werenât black, they were him, you could see your Taemin in that moment. Maybe everything was true. The dark prince you were told to worship and love in your youth turned out to genuinely love you back. It really did sound silly, and perhaps you were just as silly to believe it. Even if you were still trying to understand everything, you couldnât just deny all the years you spent with Taemin, and all the things you felt. Despite standing in this awful place engulfed in flames, nothing between you and Taemin had really changed.
â⊠tae⊠TaeminâŠâ
âYes?â
âCan we go home now?â
âOf course.â
You walked with Taemin, hand in hand, the fire around you not hurting or burning, but providing this warmth. You werenât running away from this place again, you were walking out with no burdens on your shoulder. You squeezed Taeminâs hand tightly. It would still take time to understand all that happened tonight, and what you had been told, but if you still had Taemin, then you felt that you could trust things to be alright. The trip home was long, but it gave you time to think and process. It kind of felt like a dream, but when you got home that place brought you back to reality. It was familiar, it was comforting, and it grounded you in the real world. You were tired from the trip, yet you werenât going to sleep just yet. The lights slowly began to dim and you turned around to see Taemin holding a cake.
âWe didnât do this properly last time.â
â⊠when I thought you saved me from the kidnapping⊠was all that just some hallucination?â
âA sweet dream so you wouldnât be afraid until I could get to you.â
âSo the bullets⊠they didnât really kill you⊠they just hurt a lot, huh?â
âYou could say that. Letâs do it right this time.â
Taemin began to sing, and you saw the candles light themselves. This felt much better, and it felt right, as if some veil had finally been lifted. A real birthday you could actually enjoy. You blew out the candles with a big smile on your face, and Taemin smiled bright too. Of course this new future was filled with unknowns, but you had a feeling it would be okay with Taemin at your side.
âTaeminâŠâ
âYes?â
âIâm not dreaming right⊠this isnât some kind of afterlife or fantasy in my head⊠is it?â
âThis is very real. Weâre both free.â
â⊠freeâŠâ
âWhatever you want to do, letâs do it.â
âRight now⊠I just want cake and my bed⊠with you.â
Road to recovery? Did something bad happen aside from work overloadđ«Hope ur able to get better soon writer-nim đ
No, no, no, Nonnie, I am fine, it's just the work overload and burnout >_< Besides that I am a-okay, I promise. I did manage a little bit of writing today, but it is Mother's day over here, so my focus will be elsewhere. Thanks for checking in though. I hope you have a wonderful day/night, Nonnie.
Hiii! I noticed you havenât uploaded in a while, and I just wanted to stop by and say I love love love your writing! I enjoy writing sometimes as well, and one of my motivations is reading fics where I find the writing to be absolutely immaculate, many of which are yours. I hope everythingâs alright with your personal life, and hopefully youâre able to get time for yourself! <3

Oh Nonnie, such sweet words that are much needed and appreciated. I think too much has been going on with me both at work and just life. It kinda hit me that the fact I haven't been able to do what I love, which is write, has been killing me a bit. I really do need a vacation and proper rest but unfortunately I can get that right now since work, I know but soon, hopefully, I can get myself together and actually do what I love.
I'm sorry for being M.I.A and causing any worry. I am still alive and just on the road to recovery. I honestly don't know when I'll post but I promise I will.
On the topic of taemin, i just got back from visiting family where they had little cell phone service BUT they had enough where i reread all of ur taemin fics lol, I've been getting a lot more into taemin recently so i'm very excited to see you write for him, your health comes first tho so please take care of yourself!
Oh wow Nonnie, I am touched >_< To use your limited powers to reread my stories, Taemin was a good choice. Gosh I really need to write for him some more. Besides the request I have a story sitting in my WIPs for years now probably. I need to do it, but I have my list of things to focus on for now.
I'm on the road to recovery and doing better to work on writing. So wish me luck.
