“Diversity for the sake of diversity is bad” should mean, “adding lgbt and nonwhite characters into your story for ‘diversity points’ without researching their cultures/experiences is bad” but it instead for whatever goddamn reason means “lgbt and nonwhite characters shouldn’t exist within a story unless their identity directly pertains to the overarching plot, if they just happen to be gay or not white then it’s pandering and isn’t realistic” and basically what I’m saying is that I shouldn’t go on google to find out if characters are gay anymore

!!! Yes! Also, don’t be afraid to mess up with diverse characters! Own up to your mistakes and move on and better yourself/your writing. I talk to a lot of writers and many of them say they don’t include certain types of characters because they don’t want to mess them up, but representation is important! Talk to people, ask questions, do research, etc. Diversity for diversity “points” is terrible, but genuine attempts at inclusion are fantastic.

thoughtful/taciturn fathers and emotional/babbling mother

everyone is an only child unless they have an annoying little brother

protagonists with no interests, passions, or strong opinions

(he was a demon/angel/vampire/werewolf/boggart/gremlin who cared about literally nothing until he met me and now we care about literally nothing but each other)

condescension is sexy

this love triangle: popular or dangerous guy + heroine + her male best friend

When people who don’t like a character can’t be content with just not liking them, they have to prove they’re morally right in that dislike. Like… It’s not that serious kids. Not every opinion you hold needs to be about Justice and Moral Righteousness. It’s ok to just… Not like some characters. You don’t actually need to justify it.

The Syaoran in the Clear Card Arc is actually one of the TRC Syaorans. He’s pretending so he feels bad for deceiving Sakura but still gets blushy and stuff around her because she looks just like his beloved.
