this is more of brotherly rehzair, My general idea of rehman is darker / more grey than the popular perception of him, I think it makes him more interesting. Please understand I’m not claiming the entire list is true in canon 👀
When Uzair arrived at his household, he was a tall, scrawny teenager. Rehman frequently checked with Ulfat to make sure Uzair was eating properly.
Rehman wasn't sure Uzair was built for gang life, but he kept that thought to himself.
Rehman introduced Uzair to drugs, either directly or indirectly by turning a blind eye. Rehman doesn't use drugs himself; alcohol is his only vice.
In the beginning, Uzair told Rehman everything—who he met, what was going on, and where he'd been. Rehman preferred it that way because he had little confidence in Uzair's judgment.
Uzair has daddy issues. At some point, his father started paying less and less attention to him, perhaps because he became busier with the business or simply due to the emotional distance that can exist between South Asian fathers and their sons.
Rehman used praise sparingly, so the few crumbs of approval he gave Uzair were enough to keep him hooked.
Uzair was good at math and took an interest in Ulfat's craft boxes—sewing and embroidery—but Rehman dismissed those hobbies as too feminine and urged him to focus on work instead.
Uzair used substances for the first time after his first extortion job. He threw up after his first murder.
Also around that point uzair developed the unhealthy coping mechanism of not using his own thoughts and opinions. Maybe he made a couple of mistakes once, first it was his abbu who criticized it and then Rehman and eventually Uzair just was satisfied to follow the authority figure unquestionably.
Rehman didn't like Uzair swearing around him.
rehman likes the idea of Uzair being indebted to him lifelong though he had never spelt that part aloud. He knows not to say it aloud.
a lot of emotional incest and enmeshment. Like, in the way Rehman arranged Uzair’s marriage to the daughter of one of their Baloch patrons. He also expected uzair to make him the priority ahead of his family. Like He expects emotional reassurance ("You'll always choose me, right?") or He acts hurt when Uzair sets normal adult boundaries, not that Uzair was assertive enough to set those boundaries well, ever. Eventually he turned out to be compulsive workaholic, functionally single man with everything devoted to Rehman.
Uzair is diligent, organized, an executive but not a trailblazer. He’s good at managing men, when working under someone’s set framework. He can’t be that framework. And in the cutthroat world where he lives, he knows that is a weakness. This is why he also knows deep within that Rehman is his ultimate refuge, his death / destruction would mean the ultimate disaster. This in turn makes him even more devoted and unquestioning, Most of the brother’s dynamic is based on this.
Rehman had heard rumors about Uzair, before Uzair’s marriage. Nothing direct but grapevine, that too diffused ones because who’s going to talk about Rehman’s cousin 😨!! ( Jameel would, tongue in cheek). Did Lulli and Babu ever try catcalling? Not openly, but snide remarks about the khubsoorat brother ? Yes… Maybe Rehman had even seen in one rare occasion, Uzair being too enamored by some new man.. but he looked away, he arranged the marriage early. A marriage fixes everything. Did Rehman had a doubt about Hamza? Naahhh Hamza is too straight coded man of business… or that’s what he thought.
