DRAWTOBER #8 - survivors' inheritance by RoadsandBurrows
"A-Su! Listen to me," said her mother in Mandarin, and Qin Su fell silent. This was unprecedented. "I don't care about his mother. The problem is not his mother." Qin Su sat staring at her mother's back. She could see the tremors running across her shoulders. "A-Niang," she whispered, a sudden, strange crystallization occurring in her mind, "why do you hate Jin Guangshan?" In modern-day Vancouver, Canada, Qin Su falls for a handsome young man who rescues her from a drunken assailant. Her regard for him sets off a chain reaction of revelations that will change both their lives and bring down the man who sired them; with her own identity and assumptions called into question, Qin Su must decide who she is and what she holds most precious.
I've actually got the other fic in this universe on my list for this year too, and TECHNICALLY this is a sequel, but I think they can be read separately without too much issue so I'm doing them this way around because QIN SU DESERVES THE SPOTLIGHT. I really enjoyed the worldbuilding for this fic - most modern AUs don't bother too much but this one creates a whole little community with its own class dynamics and I love it. I'm here for any fic that wants to build realistic, complex, messy but ultimately loving relationships between the Jin sibs and this one delivers fantastically whilst really giving Qin Su her own individual personal voice.
