Cage of Broken Thorns, Part 3
Collaboration with @highladyofthesith
When I awoke, I lay on the floor of what used to be my painting room. My wrists were each encircled in some kind of steel band that glowed faintly violet.
I reached for the bond and the agony that coursed through me had me dry heaving, tears stinging my eyes. I had to reach him…
The door slammed open, making me wince as the sound echoed in my ears. In the doorway stood Tamlin, and behind him, Lucien. "Get her prepared for travel and make sure she is appropriately dressed for where we are headed."
Lucien looks to Tamlin, slightly embarrassed. "Wouldn't Alis be a wiser choice, Tam?"
"Are you questioning my orders, Lucien?"
With a murderous glare to me, he stalked out of the room. My eyes met Lucien's and I tried to scoot back as he stepped closer to me.
"Easy, Feyre. Please don't make things worse than they already are. Tamlin's pissed enough. Maybe if you behave, he will be more lenient."
"Lucien, please. Don't do this. Help me get back to my mate. Please!"
"I'm sorry, Feyre. He gave me an order and I can't disobey him. Not again." He stepped back and opened the door, having a servant fetch Alis.
After a few minutes of silence, neither of us looking at the other, a quiet knock sounded on the door. Lucien opened it and ushered Alis in, turning his back as she quickly helped me into the short, loose white dress.
Alis kept her sad eyes on me. "I wish things hadn't ended up this way, Feyre."
"Me too. I want to go home, Alis."
"I'm sorry. I don't think that is possible. Not with all the eyes around. I hope your mate is worth whatever is coming."
"My home and my mate are worth more than me. Thank you for being kind to me, Alis."
Alis gently kissed my forehead. "It was my pleasure."
After Alis had left, Tamlin stormed back in and yanked me up roughly by my arm. "Tamlin… Please. You can't do this. Rhysand is--"
Before I could even register what happened my head connected with the wall and cool, sharp claws pricked at my throat as he pinned me to the wall.
"Don't say that whore's name."
Anger surged through me and I headbutted Tamlin. "Don't you ever talk about my mate like that! He's more than you ever will be!"
"Feyre, please don't-" Lucien tried to warn me but was cut off by Tamlin's angry roar. "Tam-"
Tamlin struck Lucien, knocking him roughly into the wall. "Shut up."
His narrowed eyes met mine and the first stab of icy fear slithered down my spine. He smiled darkly. "As for you, Feyre darling," I flinched at his use of Rhys's favorite endearment. "Don't worry. I'll fix you. I'll remove that bastard's taint on you."
My mind drifted as I began to be forced under the same spell he'd used the very first time I came here and then I faded away.
