Have reverted back to posting Scooby Doo on my main. Unfortunately, felt I couldn't keep this blog up to the same activity level.

Holy moly, it’s been a while since I last posted. Here’s fanart of Scrappy-Doo that I made a while ago.
@broke-on-books
the worst thing about being a scooby doo fan is that people are just so willing to be so confidently and loudly wrong about everything
this is exactly right so i wont leave it in the tags lol.
to be more specific i think it stems from the 'best' (or at least most popular) entries in the franchise being subversions on the franchise's established tropes. i dont even think theyre 'true' subversions because theyre only subversive if you dont remember much about the franchise. zombie island being 'the first time the monsters were real' (it isn't, the 80s had plenty of that), but it's still arguably the most iconic movie and a lot of casuals fans' favourite because of that. the james gunn live action films literally started as parodies, and you can really see that in the final product and how the gang is written/interacts (fred especially). its what james gunn thought he remembered scooby doo to be like vs an actual reflection of the franchise.
i still love those movies, don't get me wrong - but they're so popular, and often the only movies many people have seen; so you get this weird effect where the movies that are meant to not be like normal scooby doo, become what people associate as the "real" scooby doo. and if you haven't been exposed to much else of the franchise, you just won't realise scooby doo isn't really like that at all.
so you get these misconceptions supported by the most popular movies in the franchise, and then they just permeate through pop culture and peoples memories. and now everyone thinks theyre a scooby doo expert via cultural osmosis. and suddenly snl is doing a scooby doo sketch that is so unfunny not even sabrina carpenter can make it better.
Yes this! Mah fault for getting a little spicy lmao, genuinely I get so sick of trying to look in my comfort character tag and find it chock full of porn and mischaracterization. But yes literally exactly this. Scooby-Doo is very easy to parody, but apparently it's also very easy to take these parodies at face value? I guess?
Vincent Van Ghoul is so loved and i think that’s beautiful
Poll results: FIRST real encounter
According to 70 votes, the FIRST encounter mystery inc./the gang had with the supernatural/real monsters was:
Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island at 57.1%
Over half the votes believe this was the first time the whole gang encountered real monsters et.al.
I'm curious if those who voted this way believe this the first time for everyone or only a few (like Fred and Velma) with others technically having first encounters earlier.
I'm also curious how this fits in with Pup and The New Mysteries, if those are considered part of the Zombie Island timeline.
That said, second place goes to
"Ghost Who's Coming to Dinner?" at 12.9%
and
"A Halloween Hassle at Dracula's Castle" at 12.9%
This is where my vote would have gone if I hasn't misclicked.
Finally...
Scooby-Doo and the Goblin King* at 7.1%
...just edges out third place.
I can understand a lot of the other choices not doing as well: in Goblin King three of them literally forget by the end, Nibiru is exclusive to SDMI so I questioned including it at all, and I was unsure about Straight Outta Nowhere but another poll said yes to its inclusion.
But I can say that...
"The Ghosts of the Ancient Astronauts" at 1.4%
...is the least likely which I think is fair. Does seeing the ghosts of real aliens count? Who knows? In retrospect, I could have had better options. Also, next time I'll keep the poll shorter
