Something I love about the Deltarune protagonists is how they're kinda... predisposed? for treating the Darkners well?
Kris as a kid approached every object with special attention. The Seven Flying Aces comment on how Kris colored each one with care and Ramb was literally just a plug that Kris still somehow found a way to involve in the games just like any other usual toy!
Noelle is very sentimental as she becomes upset learning that Kris gave away their TV they loved watching as kids to someone else, but she also has a special history with how she approached videogames too! Since childhood, she either didn't play the games as intended (like trying to play "house" with the characters in a fighting game instead of actually fighting) or extensively studied every nook for the subject of glitches and secrets. In either case, she had a more profound interest in videogames than treating them as just temporary fun to beat and then move on from!
Susie also has shown something previously, she literally commented on how a debuffed character that became detrimental for the part of the RPG she played (in secrecy) as a kid was STILL a team member needed to be carried on and treated as such! Like if the character was a living person that was unfair to neglect.
I just think they have such beautiful souls. Darkners were always "real" for them, even without all the adventures and where Deltarune lore is heading.
It is also something very personal for me that I like. When I was a kid, I had multiple toys and objects and I was so worried about them feeling "lonely" if they got neglected that not only I involved each one in my games but also before the bedtime I covered each one with a "blanket" (be it a napkin, a rug or even sometimes a sheet of paper) and wished each a good night. I, too, failed to play videogames in the intended way and dissected them for secrets. In two games I was even a pioneer of finding the ways to go out of bounds in them despite being only 12 years old at the time!!! I've failed to make "evil" choices in the RPGs with branching questlines and 'morality' because I didn't have a heart to hurt the characters' feelings as if they were real people and once dropped a videogame because there was the trolley problem. Like... Eram couldn't force me at a fucking GUNPOINT lol
It is just nice that Toby is writing this type of the 'strange kid/teen' characters as the protagonists... It brings back memories. I just really "feel" for the protags, on a deeply personal level. I think I would've been a much happier kid if I had Deltarune in MY childhood but I am glad that the next generation gets to grow up with the characters like this.
This is what I'm talking about! The way that we interact with fiction has always been at the core of this game (and Undertale too!). Both games present the player with opportunities to see what happens when you choose to do things that would be horrific if done to real people.
Being able to identify the difference between fiction and reality and yet choosing to treat these characters with care anyway isn't just what our protagonists are doing, it's what we're doing too!
do you live in seattle (the american city)?
yes
no
please reblog to get this poll out of my bubble, i want reach
so ive been meaning to do this poll for a while because my hypothesis is that seattle is the most Tumblr city, likely in the entire world. tumblr has a huge american majority userbase obviously, but just for comparison going forward, only 0.22% of the american population lives in seattle. as of this reblog, this poll is showing 4% of respondents are seattleites. given, this isnt scientific at all, because my blog just has a lot of seattle connections and seattle followers, but it's still an impressive bias
