siblings; as seen by an only child—

it's rakshabandhan and with that comes the sudden pensive-ness to me that oh I'm kinda alone in this world

it's fine usually— and my parents did admittedly go overboard as a kid and made me parcel rakhi/ tie it to all the cousins (mom's mom's sister's daughter's kid- you name it) but it's not the same

i can tie 500 rakhis but still not come to understanding the concept of siblings- like what to you mean there's a person who you can go and say —hey dipshit i need to hide a body. they won't give you their fav jhumkas but they will fight mom and dad to death for you. guide you to through your first heartbreak, snitch on you eating the last chocolate. have sperate bags of snacks divided and labelled as this is MINE. just it's a bit wild to me

it's the always thereness and always being able to understand you that i don't get. and trust me my friends would concur— I'm so awkward around my friends siblings, like am i supposed to be cool with you? formal? joke with you? join you in pulling my best friend's leg. oh i loved that one recipie that you cooked even though i haven't said hello to you in ages but i still got the privellage to taste it cause you sister brought some for me.

i see that love all around me and I can't help be jealous a lil bit of how a person, a family member knows you so well— can know form you looks that tonight's dinner had too much chilli fake being full, we'll get snacks later. i guess i have always grown used to hiding everything from my parents. it's not even about aproval it's more about— them not understanding anything.

so yeah raksha bandhan a day my parents keep a full schedule to not think about how lonely the home gets at 3 am.
