a friendly Jewish bookworm with too much time to think on their hands.
I'm on fanfiction as OverAnalyzer and OverAnalyzers! on A03. I also answer to OA or Ana! (She/they)
I write fanfictions! They take place as either prequels or throughout PJO, HoO, and ToA. Canon characters explored: Hestia, Drew Tanaka, Jason Grace (inevitably), Piper Mclean, and my fun bunch of OCs (feel free to ask me about them). If you want my new and shiny Zelda side blog its at @overzeldalyzer.
I’m also Jewish and have a harassment free Jewish centric PJO Discord. Feel free to join if you’re Jewish, an ally, or just interested in a more Jewish PJO space: https://discord.gg/GtzxY9NvjF
The stories and links are below the readmore: Each story name links to the story. If it has a asterix by its name that means it is a drabble.
Aphrodite Cabin Schenanagins:
Daughters of Love: Drew Centric, starts SoM era and continues through HoO.
Birthday Shopping*: With Piper off on her quest, Drew wants to make everything about cabin 10 normal again (now that she's grown past her less enlightened phrase), and how better than a birthday shopping trip at the immortal shop they always go to? Only an issue.
Character Focus:
Piper Mclean:
The Rite of Passage*: Piper wasn't sure when she knew. But she was going to have to break the news somehow.
Jason Grace:
Jason Grace: Exceeding Expectations: An Analysis of Jason Grace if you will
Two+ Seven:
Beauty and a Belle: Annabeth wasn't sure when she started liking Piper, but at this point it was undeniable. So when Piper asked her to go hacking with her, Annabeth couldn't say no. It was the closest she would get to a date, wasn't it?
Survivor's Guilt: Leo is dead. But life isn't so easy for his friends. After all, life is much harder than death.
OC centric:
Heart of the Flame: I should have known it was a mistake to open the window. In retrospect, it was idiotic. When a stranger knocks on your bedroom window asking to be let in because monsters are chasing her and she wants to use your room as shelter to rest, you should probably call for help. I didn't. (OC centric fic)
SeaFam: (Perseus and Water Co)
My Grand Plan: Chrysaor's going to be rich. Well, richer than he was. All he had to do was kidnap one weak amnesiac demigod. Then he'll get all the wealth and glory he dreamed of. His plan is perfect. Foolproof even, if only everyone would just follow along on his script.
Who Writes your Story*: Jason died. But no one cares enough to finish the work he left behind. No one cares to realize he wasn't done. Except those he would have remembered.
Adopting Akhlys: Akhlys thought she had the perfect target. May Castellan had been a masterpiece of grief and sorrow. Now that her sanity is returned, surely she'll be even more so. But the issue is that when Akhlys decides to do a personal visit (in the form of May's long dead son), things don't turn out as expected.
Finding Home: After his quest, Apollo knew it wouldn't be easy to return back to Olympus. He had changed too much. He just hadn't expected it to feel so, well, isolated.
Tales of Hearth and Home: Stealing the Flame was the right thing to do, right? Sure her family seemed overprotective of the little fire, but once they saw how the Flame fit in with the mortals that covered the world below they would change their minds... wouldn't they? The tale of Prometheus and the theft of fire told by the one entrusted with the Flame's safety
Miscellaneous and Not PJO:
Fraternizing with the Enemy (It was that or dying): Link has been having a rough time. First, he wakes up with no memories and then is tasked with saving the whole world (No big deal, apparently his past self did this for breakfast). Now there are a bunch of monsters popping up and coming back to life that want nothing more than to kill him. Luckily, his next run-in is just with a normal traveler. They seem pretty cool and apparently, they work for... the Yiga Clan. They don't really want to kill him, do they? (please say no)
Kittens and Cuddles: A fanfiction of Rynna_Aurelia's Kane Chronicles and Percy Jackson crossover. - linked here
When Bast sent a kitten to watch over Percy Jackson, she did not expect the kitten to get confused. The god highest on her 'to deal with' list.
all i want to do is write that one fic that takes people’s breath away and kinda lingers in the back of their minds. i want to write something that makes people want to make art and play with my versions of characters or in the universe i created. i want to be able to create worlds that feel real enough to walk into and write lines that stick with people until they forget where exactly they heard it because it lives in their bones now.
One of those fandom things that I love is when there’s new characters around and, with the unwavering confidence of an old farmer appraising cattle, fanfic authors take one good look at them, tilt their imaginary hat, and go “Aye. Praise kink, that one. Mighty case of praise kink if I ever saw one.” And everyone else just “aye.”
“I don’t think the Highschool AU is going to come in too strong this year. Fandoms a touch jaded for that. But the hurt/comfort is growin’ thick as weeds and twice as fast. It’ll be a good harvest, fer sure.”
I've been thinking about this - and why asking the demon is also a bad idea
Tartini was a composer and violin teacher and no one respected him, he was generally broke, and he started having weird dreams in which the devil asked him to teach him violin
despite being catholic tartini agreed - although everything told him this was a bad idea
so he taught the devil violin in his dreams and when he had taught him everything he knew the devil offered him payment, he played an original composition in his dream
Tartini woke up weeping and struggled to write it down
we have a historical version of "couldn't remember the greatest song in the world, this is just its tribute", and the song he wrote down made him "Sonata in G Minor, aka the devil's trill" it's usually played by 2 violinists because it's evil difficult,
now imagine you make a deal with the devil to write your novel, he writes it but only lets you read it in a dream and you have to transcribe it from memory the next day.... 150k of the best prose and plot you've ever seen in your life and you have to remember it
Idk how to explain it. If you wanna headcanon characters as white until proven otherwise we ain't gonna stop you.
However, that doesn't give you the right to push back against any headcanon where said character isn't white. It sure as hell doesn't make nonwhite headcanons invalid.
headcanons are just that, headcanons. And your image not matching with another persons image is not your problem to "solve".
Also make sure the character you're headcanoning as white is actually unspecified because I've run across blatantly black characters who people insisted might not actually be black.
canon is what happens in the text. e.g. merlin tries to poison morgana
a headcanon is a fact that you have personally made up as an elaboration of canon. it is your invention. e.g. i think morgana and gwen had a teenage lesbian situationship before the events of canon. or, i think modern morgana would love evanesence.
an interpretation is how one reads the existing text. it is not an invented fact nor is it a headcanon, it is a reading. e.g. i think merlin tries to poison morgana out of misplaced self-hatred. or, i think that one line was delivered with suppressed malice and shows a nuanced relationship.
fanon is the general fandom’s accepted headcanons and interpretations that elaborate or recontextualize canon. e.g. merlin is a badass waif and morgana is a bitch.
these are all different words with different meanings.
Also, for an interpretation to be valid it needs to be based on the text. It cannot just be a vibe. One can disagree on readings of the text, but if someone comes with quotes and/or historical context and you just have vibes, then sorry, your interpretation is inferior and may in fact just be a headcanon.
a feel like the new generation of fanfic readers NEED to understand that clicking on a fic (interaction) does nothing. ao3 has no algorithm. your private discord discussions of fic do not reach the authors. if you do not actively engage with writers they will stop posting. this isn’t social media this is community.
Controversial, but I think it's harmful to tell people you're never going to write something good on the first try or it's always going to be pure garbage, like that may be helpful for some on some level, but I personally don't think it's a healthy way of thinking, and it causes others to second guess work that is good. Is editing often helpful? Yes. But you're not going to have to Ship of Theseus everything you ever make. Anyway, the phrase "idk, man, it depends" strikes again.
