JAVIE MARTZOUKAS YOU WILL NEVER DIE
season 19 taskmaster finale but javie martzoukas you will live forever!!!!
things ianthe has said that i feel gregory house would also say:
"should we hold hands in girlish solidarity?"
"alas. i have a bad personality and a stupefying deficit of attention."
"why, your fist is so big, and my butthole is so small."
"what can i say, i love a little gall on gall"
"i tried and therefore no one should criticize me"
"[why did you get into this business] ultimate power and posters of my face"
"some people will do anything to get... a head"
"i didn't think this was the time for dirty talk but i can roll with it. choke me daddy"
to quote myself: they are awful in so many of the same ways and i love them both. for instance:
house would give wilson a wife-removal lobotomy + think it was hot. ianthe would blow up a building + fake her death for harrow. house would call the lyctors duplicitous sluts. ianthe would terrorize house's fellows and hit on cuddy.
house 🤝 ianthe maaaany things actually

yall can play in my mf face if you want to, but stack, mary, smoke, and annie loved each other and loved their family.
disclaimer: these are my thoughts and opinions, how i view the canon lore and events. this is more of a small VERY SMALL character study so i'm not touching every topic, i just want get some of my thoughts out. dont agree? not trying to see where im coming from? i respect it but don't start coming at me crazy, thanks.
I think Mary is a selfish character. Not in the shallow, greedy way—but in the way that she needs her people close, no matter the cost. She’s selfish in her desperation to be with her family. She was willing to risk everything—not just to be with Stack, but with all of them. She wanted to stand beside them through thick and thin. She loved—loves—Stack through stress and struggle, and that same deep, consuming love extended to the rest of her family too. She loved them selfishly.
You see it in the way she put herself in danger to find out why Remmick and his people were there in the first place—even though she didn’t protect her back and went alone… and got got. (Stack has the same flaw, by the way: not watching his back.) You see it in how she leaned into the idea of "family" Remmick was selling when she was turned—because again, she was desperate. You see it in how she screamed in grief when Annie was killed before she turned. That’s what Annie wanted, and I think that pain—that loss—was what broke Remmick’s hold on Mary and helped her finally run. You see it again when she returned to Clarksdale to bury her mama. That grief—that ache for connection—was a huge part of why she did what she did.
And all that love, however selfish, was reciprocated. Y’all really think they didn’t care about her? Stack loved her—obviously. He promised that if anyone touched her, both he and Smoke would handle it. Annie called her family. We didn’t get much of Mary and Smoke’s dynamic, but he at least respected her—and with Smoke, that means something. They loved her. They cared about her. They just wanted her gone because of the times they were living in. But Mary didn’t care. Even if they had found out about her ancestry, she wouldn’t have cared.
Mary is selfish. She wants her family. She wants the man she loves. She wants, and she yearns, and she clings. She’s possessive. She’s desperate. And it’s all incredibly selfish—but also deeply human and heartbreaking.
Ryan Coogler once said vampirism was the illusion of freedom, and Hailee said Mary was truly broken by Annie’s death. Mary wanted her family to be free, even if it was in that fucked-up-ass way. Because she was selfish in the way she loved her people.
Mary is selfish—desperately, defiantly selfish—but also deeply human in the way she loves. And that love? It was returned, every messy, complicated bit of it.
The portrayal of white people who have been violently separated from their own culture stealing the power of black culture and music to try to get reconnected was SO literal and somehow not at ALL heavy-handed or trite. Fkn remarkable.
one thing I really like about Sinners (2025)'s portrayal of white supremacy is the insistence. Its insidiousness. how it will find the weakest link in the community, the closest to the fringe, and use them.
I think it's no mistake that it's Mary, a white-passing woman, who first brings the evil with her into the community space of the juke joint. no mistake that Grace Chow, when her family is threatened, breaks the safety boundary. even Cornbread is physically at the fringe of the juke joint when he is snatched. this is the playbook: find the weakest link, break the chain.
and the insistence! as remmick asks politely for entrance, then manipulates, then threatens. "we'll walk slow in case you change your mind" when he possesses Cornbread and has him beg and wheedle, then insult and put down Annie & Slim. any path forward, any path available, just keep pushing pushing pushing
you're not safe, you're never safe, white supremacy is knocking on the door, it's putting its roots down in your loved ones and turning them against you, it is all around you and it wants to hurt you so badly and it will unpick your defenses brick by brick, and so you must be vigilant, hyper-vigilant.
and it will come to you looking harmless, looking like your neighbor and your old friend and your wife and your brother and you will have to close your door to them if they have let it within them. it will move up links on the chain, from remmick to Mary to Stack, using proximity to gain access to the vulnerable. this is the horror. this is the rotten core.
iwtv is about being a bad victim. and I'm obsessed with it for that.
i know it had been said but it truly insane to grow up and realize that the things you were told were most disgusting about you actually have a thriving subculture of people who specifically want to fuck you about it
like realizing that there are people who would kill to suffocate in my bush?
who are barking biting howling for the chance to squeeze my fat rolls?
whose eyes are popping out "awooga!"-style to see my hairy chest and too-big nipples?
it's kind of soul-healing ngl
and there's a whole nother side too of like. the things i thought i was an irredeemable pervert, doomed to be outcast from society for?
turns out there's a bunch of us, outcast by society, building a new society out here. and it fucks unbelievably hard.
