Harassment Spam Bot Alert!

AO3 has recently seen a rise in guest spambot comments making false accusations about work creators or other users. For example, they may claim that a particular user is discriminating against minorities, trying to hide the fact that they use AI, or are at risk of having their works stolen or deleted.

These comments often copy existing AO3 usernames in order to make their accusations seem more legitimate. They may also try to lure people onto other platforms (similar to the art commission scam), or use fake links that actually lead to pornographic images.

As always, we recommend that you do not click on any suspicious links or give your contact information to scammers. Instead, simply mark the comments as spam or report them so that the Policy & Abuse committee can remove comments left by these spambots.

How to recognize this kind of spam:

The comments come from guests, not logged-in users.

The comments may start with praise for you and your writing, trying to lull you into a false sense of security. Or they may claim that you are a bad writer, trying to make you too upset to realize that the comments are fake.

The comments may accuse you or another user of promoting discriminatory beliefs, deceiving fans, or similar behaviors that might cause other people to shun or harass the accused individual. They may claim that they checked social media to find that the accused user is "brazenly sharing hateful content" or "bragging about using AI".

The comments are often pleading or angry, asking you to "stop lying to your readers", "don't remove the AI prompts from your work", or suggesting that you "consider adding more diverse characters" to "repair the trust you've lost with your audience".

So far, these comments have all been from guests. Our advice is to flag them as spam to better filter them out.

To help train our automated spam-checker to block similar guest comments in the future:

If the comment is on your own work:

Go directly to the comment on your work, either by clicking on the link in your email or in your AO3 inbox.

Click on the "Spam" button to mark the guest comment as spam and remove it from your work.

Note: The "Spam" button only appears when viewing a guest comment directly on your work. This is because the AO3 comment inbox is merely a copy of the work's comments – deleting a comment from your AO3 inbox does not delete the comment from the work itself.

If you see comments like these on someone else's work:

Feel free to let the creator know the comment is from a bot, and that they should mark it as spam.

You can also report the comments as botspam via the Policy Questions & Abuse Reports form linked at the bottom of every page on AO3.

If you are reporting multiple guest comments, please submit only one report, and include all comment links in your report description. (You can get the direct link to any comment by clicking the "Thread" button on the comment, and then copying the URL of that page.)

As of December 2025, bots have also left guest comments harassing users by:

threatening to report you/your fic to the authorities or your employers

alleging security concerns like your email being compromised or spyware on your computer

claiming that they know your address and are going to visit you at your house

saying that you will die alone and unemployed over the holidays

What these bots claim is not true. These accusations do not mean your work will be deleted or that your accounts are insecure. We recommend that you mark these comments as spam following the instructions in our previous post.

These examples also do not represent the full range of harassment comments that you may receive. We will continue to try and keep you updated about trends; however, please note that the exact wording the bots use will continue to evolve.

📣 Sanji Didn’t Betray Luffy

Can we please stop pretending Sanji “betrayed” Luffy during Whole Cake Island like he wasn’t literally in the most emotionally torturous situation in the entire series??

Like. Let’s lay this out:

• The man gets kidnapped.

• Blackmailed with the threat of killing Zeff, his father figure and the reason he’s even alive.

• Forced into a political marriage to a family who dehumanized and abused him his entire childhood.

• Is fully prepared to sacrifice his freedom and happiness just to keep his real family safe.

• And then when Luffy shows up to save him, Sanji has to beat him up with his own legs while literally crying after.

AND Y’ALL CALLED THAT A BETRAYAL???

Like no. He didn’t betray Luffy.

He betrayed himself — because he genuinely thought he wasn’t worth saving.

He wasn’t being disloyal. He was self sacrificing himself for the people he loved.

This wasn’t a “lack of faith in Luffy.”

It was a complete lack of self-worth.

He didn’t think Luffy couldn’t save him.

He just didn’t think he deserved to be saved.

That’s not betrayal.

That’s trauma.

Also — the ENTIRE episode ends with Luffy refusing to eat until Sanji makes him food again. Luffy literally said:

“I’m not leaving without you. You’re the cook of my ship.”

Like. Hello???

That’s not betrayal. That’s brotherhood.

If you saw that scene and walked away thinking, “Wow, Sanji’s so disloyal” instead of “Wow, Sanji is traumatized, exhausted, and STILL trying to protect the people he loves” then you completely missed the point.

Sanji didn’t betray Luffy.

Sanji was ready to burn in hell alone to protect the people he loves.

He’s the definition of loyalty.

He’s the definition of love.

He’s the heart of the crew.

And I just love him so much 🥺💛

He deserves peace, softness, and ten thousand warm meals made for him for once.

Another thing that absolutely grinds my gears is when people say:

“If Zoro was there, he would’ve killed Sanji for what he did to Luffy!! ”

Do you… even understand Zoro’s character?

Because Zoro would’ve immediately understood what was going on.

He’s not stupid. He’s not heartless.

He’s one of the most emotionally intelligent members of the crew when it comes to duty, loyalty, and sacrifice.

You really think the “nothing happened” man wouldn’t recognize exactly what Sanji was doing in Whole Cake?

You think the man who was ready to give up his life and dream for Luffy in Thriller Bark wouldn’t see the exact same thing in Sanji — sacrificing everything to protect his crew?

They’re not opposites.

They’re mirrors.

Zoro and Sanji are both Luffy’s wings.

They argue. They fight.

But at the end of the day, they would both die to keep the captain safe.

Zoro wouldn’t have killed Sanji.

Zoro would’ve brought him back home, quietly, with full respect — because he knows what it’s like to carry a burden in silence.

He and Sanji are both ride-or-die for Luffy.

Both are self-sacrificing to a fault.

Both are family.

I say this as someone still relatively new to OP and someone who absolutely loves Zoro... how have I heard about "nothing happened" a billion times even before getting more familiar with the manga/anime, and I've never once heard about Sanji's sacrifice in Skypiea??

Sanji literally climbed up the huge ark in the sky, still heavily injured. He managed to hijack the ark, faced Enel's attack and still managed to deliver a badass line beore passing out.

He didn't know if Nami and Usopp made it out safely. He didn't count on anyone coming back for him. He was ready to die right then and there. How is this not on par with Zoro's "nothing happened" moment?

I'm basically still at the beginning of the manga and this is far from the first time his strength/wit saved the situation...

But Sanji never cared for women's appearances in fact he was the only one who didn't reject Lola's proposal in TB (manga since the anime has long been ruining Sanji's character), still considered Lola the zombie as a woman even though Chopper and Usopp saw her as a monster, even Black Maria's subordinates were called monsters by Brook, while Sanji still considered them as women, even happy to be surrounded by them

With Kokoro it was a gag, ALL of them were "freaked out" by her, Luffy made a disgusted face, he also call her, Zambai, Lulu and Tileston begged for Kokoro to not strip, Usopp cried out, Zoro too and even erased his memory of her, Nami, Chimney and Gonbei also thought of her as a dugong, Franky too saw her as scary

People who get hung up on Sanji not simping for “ugly” women miss the point that he’s supposed to be chivalrous towards all women, not attracted towards all women. Somehow this concept is so hard to grasp because you’ll hear people say stuff like “why doesn’t he simp for Kokoro and Shinobu?” (too old for him??), “Why doesn’t he simp for Chiffon?” (whole ass married woman with a kid), “why doesn’t he simp for Reiju?” (?????????)

He doesn’t kick women, and he protects all women as best as possible, plain and simple. Just because there’s no heart eyes and nosebleeds involved doesn’t mean he is disrespecting them. And let’s be real he gets hate for doing exactly that too, like if he enthusiastically agreed to Lola’s proposal he’d be once again criticised for “leaving the strawhats for a girl”. It’s darned if you do, darned if you don’t.

His attraction is super surface level, even towards Nami and Robin. He loves them as his treasured nakama and family, with all the simping being decor on the cake. You’re free to ship but I don’t think Sanji actually harbours romantic feelings for either of them. All that talk about running off with “Elizabeth” and Viola, and what does he do when he’s actually met with a marriage offer? He rejects it. He swoons for a second when seeing Kalifa and Black Maria, but immediately sobers up because he knows they are the enemy. Sanji’s priority will always be the Strawhats and his dream. He doesn’t become “stupid” when it comes to women either, like when he disagreed with Nami in favour of Zoro in Enies Lobby. The women whom he gives the benefit of the doubt—Nami, Robin, Viola, Pudding—all end up actually deserving it.

I won’t blame you if you find the “ugly women” gags distasteful, or the general male-gaze-centric portrayal of women in OP. I won’t mind if you don’t like Sanji because you associate him with these gags either. But saying “Sanji only respects beautiful women” is just plain untrue and Sanji fans are allowed to be upset at you for it lol.

i noticed that western people’s reaction to sanji never harming women is so different from where i come from. It’s like domestic abuse and violence against women have been completely solved there and now when a man says they rather die than hit a woman he’s immediately labeled as sexist and criticized for it. Id rather men be sexist in a way that they never harm or insult women than be violent and abusive (bc in my country women dying of domestic abuse is too often an occurrence and we never feel safe walking alone at night)

Now sanji’s principle to never hit women comes at the detriment of only himself. This is a character flaw and weakness which i actually like about him bc it makes his character so interesting (it even exists in the video game where sanji’s character can’t fight women!). Instead of having a bland perfect character without any weaknesses, sanji’s flaw is that he can’t hurt women. And it’s actually a good thing this flaw can be explained. There’s zeff but there’s also sanji’s own childhood trauma where the only people who were kind to him were his sister and his mom and all the men around him were violent and abusive to him. I think if sanji hadn’t experienced that kind of situation he’d have more trouble accepting zeff’s logic. Zeff said women must not be harmed and sanji thought about the only women he knew which were his mom and sister and said ok that makes sense i guess. Those women were like absolute angels to sanji who was receiving severe daily abuse from his father and brothers (even zeff hit him as a child, so…). why throw all of that trauma and interesting character design under the label of sexism and reject it when you can have so much fun dissecting sanji’s character?

Also note that this part of sanji’s character is different from his simping gag. I find his simping a comic gag that is meant to make us laugh at sanji’s antics just like zoro always getting lost or napping during dangerous situations. It’s fine if you don’t find it funny but it’s a gag either way. Its not meant to be taken seriously and dissected and explained as a serious characteristic trait. Its not meant to throw a character as complex and compelling and tragic as sanji away. A character that has been in the making for over 20 years.

One of the most heartbreaking and powerful moments in all of One Piece.

I don’t care how many times I’ve seen it, the moment Luffy screams,

“Without you, I can’t be Pirate King!”

…and Sanji finally breaks down, it hits just as hard every single time.

Sanji was the first person Luffy ever said that to. That wasn’t just a plea. That wasn’t just about being captain. That was Luffy putting Sanji at the center of his dream.

He wasn’t speaking to a fighter. Or a cook.

He was speaking to family.

In that one sentence, Luffy reminded Sanji of something he had forgotten:

He was never just “the cook.” He was always irreplaceable.

I’d do the same if I was Luffy, no doubt. Sanji isn’t just useful.. he’s loyal, selfless, and full of heart. Luffy knew what he had. That’s why he fought so hard to bring him back. You don’t just let someone like Sanji go. You fight with your whole soul. Having him on your side isn’t just lucky.. it’s a damn blessing.
