I need to play catch up with my requests I currently have. Also, Stories 3 hasn't been on my mind as much, so I didn't have the energy to write as much.
I used to have a blog dedicated to Monster Hunter Games on here, but I deleted it because I felt the need for a fresh start. I will write for the characters below:
Monster Hunter Wilds:
How The Gang Reacts to The Hunter Going Missing (Or Worse)
-Erik
-Werner
-Alma
-Olivia
-Y'sai
Monster Hunter Stories 2:
-Cheval
-Alwin
-Reverto
-Kyle
-Avinia
-Ena
-Lilia
-Kayna
Monster Hunter Stories 3: (Finished Stories 3!)
Character Headcanons
Dancing with the Rangers Headcanons
-Simon
-Eleanor
-Gaul
If someone you want isn't on the list, feel free to ask about it! I might decide to write for them.
I will write about:
-Angst (as much as someone wants), headcanons, platonic relationships, fluff, domestic fluff, pregnancy, or any SFW topic (I got a prompt list to choose from to combine any of these if wanted!!)
I will NOT write about:
-NSFW topics, in-depth sex scenes or smut, and if anything comes up that isn't here, I'll let you know, but I'm pretty flexible!
Hope to get asks at some point or another! I'm ready to write again.
HEY AGAIN BESTIE its me once again bringing you more info and theories and such from a variety of places about the dlc ( •̀ ω •́ )✧
First of all: the new area is called the "Skybound Eyrie"! And, of course, and eyrie is the nest/resting place for a large bird/bird of prey. Which is exciting for one major reason I can think of: Somult!
Throughout the game, we hear about this mythological bird called Somult, mostly from the people of Kunafa and Suja. A lot of people are theorizing that one of our big dlc elder dragons will be Somult!
I have a few theories about Somult:
First, I think it was either living at the top of the Wyverian castle long before the castle was built, and was subsequently kicked out of its home (and then became the monster Zoh Shia was created to defend against), OR the castle was built *for* Somult (perhaps with Somult even being a guardian to match Zoh), seeing as it appears to be a benevolent figure to everyone who has spoken about it :D
Second: I really hope they break the traditional elder dragon formula with Somult. 4 legs 2 wings is.. incredibly prevalent and we could really use a break from it! I'm hoping Somult will have one of 3 body plans: just straight up an actual bird, maybe even a bird with 4 wings, a Quetzalcoatlus (pleasepleasepleaseplease), or perhaps a sort of elder dragon-y ancestor to the seikrets.
Second: We have Lao Shan Lung back! So exciting!!! Except... in Lao's earlier appearances, it's suggested in lore books and in in-game dialogue that it appeared because it was being chased by something. And that something was Fatalis. Wonder what monster has poor Lao running straight into our barricades this time, huh? Personally, I'm hoping for White Fatalis!
Okay that's all I have in the way of theories, on to the monster wishlist:
I do have a bit of Kushala fatigue after... 7? ish? games in a row 😅 but it's only logical to include the windy dragon himself into the WINDward plains lol!
As far as elder dragons go, I'm really hoping for Valstrax as well, and Shagaru (and chaotic) is pretty much a given imo! I think the castle would also be a really cool setting for Malzeno! I'm also still coping for Dalamadur, of course (can you imagine a sky variant/Quetzalcoatlus style dala for the Eyrie??? I'd lose my minddddd)
As far as normal mosnter's go, I'd definitely love to see some invaders! I'd like to see Jho again, but I have to say I'm not excited for the potential return of Punch Monkey 😅 I've got personal beef with that mf. What I'd really like to see is a brand new invader! Maybe bring back Quropeco to summon in a new terror :D! You're so right about the new locale being perfect for Legiana!! I really hope we get a guardian version!! And I'm totally with you: we need Giggi back o(TヘTo) Unfortunately I think it'll be Khezu so that they can add shrouded Nerscylla.... but man I wish it could be Giggi....
Other wishlist monsters: Najarala, Goss Harag, Gammoth (coping for a sand variant for the plains), and Glavenus!
My absolute long shot wish for returning monsters: Nakarkos. Listen this is the cephalopod game!! They gave us Nuudra and Xuwu!! Nakarkos is just,, the next logical step!! Right?? (coping so hard rn)
Okok thank you for listening to my ramblings, this dlc is just so hype!!
xoxo (´▽`ʃ♡ƪ)
I appreciate all the thoughts in this post! It'll be so interesting to see what Ascendance brings to the game!
"Skybound Eyrie" sounds like it's going to be a cool area.
I love your theories on Somult, and I also hope that it veers away from the traditional "dragon" look of elder dragons. Kirin is basically a unicorn, so going off script the typical elder dragon look could be a possibility! I am so on your page with hoping a look would be similar to Quetzalcoatlus or the likes.
I have never fought Lao Shan Lung before! So, I am so ready to try it in Wilds. Here's hoping that Fatalis might be following, literally and figuratively.
I've mentioned I'm a big nostalgia person, which is why I'm personally happy for Kushala because I've been fighting it in monster hunter games since I was a lil child. But of course, I also understand that Kushala is also a tiring elder dragon XD
I'd really like Deviljho back too! We all got some personal beef with Rajang at some point or another XD but I would just like to see new players meet the giant monke.
Narkarkos would be epic!
I am also just overall excited to see how much the characters have grown, physically and emotionally, in this DLC (especially Erik but I'm not biases in any way, he looks so *chef's kiss* in the trailer omg)
HEY BESTIE!!! Did you see the DLC announcement!!!! It looks incredible!! And the changes to the characters is really making me wonder how much time has passed. Thoughts and feelings about the trailer?? ( •̀ ω •́ )✧
OH YES
ASCENDANCE!!
Thoughts below:
For real tho, I was curious because the character who looks like Nata seems all grown up, but the other characters don't look super aged—just some clothing and hair style changes.
I'm sensing that maybe some years have passed—maybe the teams went back home, but then Nata sent word that he found something—the new locale, which is somehow in the sky. Alma being so choked up that the boy she adopted in the desert appears all grown up.
I feel as tho Seikret mobility is going to be greatly used given the terrain of the new locale. It seems to be a lot of mountainous and/or detached rocks/pillars that we'll need to get to. Not to mention all the wind gusts that could be used for gliding.
Onto the MONSTERS:
Elder Dragons:
KUSHALA MY BAE—I personally love this elder dragon, so I am very happy to see it return. And Lao, whom I never got to fight before, is hopefully gonna be good.
I'm someone who actually doesn't always like new monsters being added but appreciates the return of originals. To me, it feels like seeing an old friend again, so I am very happy to see Kush and Lao.
Along those lines, I (along with many others it seems) hope to see Valstrax return. The area would be perfect for its mobility.
I also hope to see Teostra/Lunastra (I am very biased for these two, I love them so much)
Shaguru Magala would just make sense given the presence of Gore Magala—one would have to shed and turn golden at some point
I overall hope we just get more elder dragons in general besides Kush and Lao
Other Monsters:
The new monster from the trailer (Bird Wyvern??) gives me Quropeco vibes, but the movement we saw gives me hope that Valstrax could return. Obviously, with a new area comes a new monster, and this one seems unique.
But as I mentioned, I am a favorite of old monsters returning over new ones. An oldie is a goodie—usually. That being said, here is my hope for returning monsters:
DEVILJHO AND RAJANG—give me my invaders back. I love the pickle and the punch monkey and everyone needs to experience them. Wilds gave me Gore Magala and Lagiacrus, now give me my monke and my pickle.
I just get the feeling of Legiana when I look at the locale—something about that monster's movement feels like it would fit well in an area amongst the clouds.
I care little for Khezu, but a lot more for Gigginox—it needs to come back. It's been so long, and that pendant that Gemma had looked like a Giggi I swear
Ajanath and Odogoran—the actual ones (subspecies too), not the guardians. It would just make me happy, but I'm not hopeful about it
I am always willing to give any new monsters added a try—they could become a favorite of mine like Rey Dau did
Subspecies:
I feel like whenever there is a big expansion of the main game, subspecies of the monsters previously are added, so I hope we get some subspecies of monsters such as Rey Dau or Ajarakan or something
I would also love subspecies of the returning monsters—not just ones that will be added in the expansion, but things like Azure Rathalos or Pink Rathian, the Metal Raths, Ivory Lagiacrus, Mizutsune subspecies, Deviants, and the like.
It's a tall order, but the skeletal systems are already present. Just some appearances and attacks would change—but I have no idea how complex that might actually be
ERIK
MY BOY
FOR THE FEW SECONDS I SAW HIM IN THE TRAILER HE LOOKS SO HANDSOME
THE HAIR—THAT LIL SCARF
*SCREAMS*
I can't wait enough for 2027 where I can drag that bug boy all around the sky with me. Alma better make room because I ain't leaving Erik behind—he's my handler now.
Seriously, I hope I'm (no Alma hate actually but you know my love for Erik runs deep) not stuck with her for the whole story expansion—and that he's able to tag along in some cases
ANYWAY—super looking forward to this! Hope we get to see more hints and updates in the future!
hi!! idk if im doing this right lol but i just read your werner x reader fic oh my gosh that was so unbelievably fire🥹
i think i would cry and absolutely LOVE some sort of werner x reader fic to do with some sort of celebration at the grand hub?? imagine a confession as the fireworks go up and the diva reaches her final notes omigosh itd be so peak ,, but yeah that's sort of the general idea LOL do what you'd like with it!!
Thank you!!! Oh for sure! I hope you like this! Apologies for the long wait❤️
When My Heart Learned Your Name
The Grand Hub is alive with music, lanterns, and celebration. Werner insists he only came to observe. Unfortunately for him, observation becomes increasingly difficult when you’re standing too close, smiling too brightly, and making him feel things he cannot neatly categorize. Somewhere between the Diva’s final song and fireworks, Werner realizes there may never be a perfect time to say what he feels—so perhaps imperfect will have to do.
Werner x GN! Reader
Werner hated crowds.
Objectively speaking, they were inefficient. And annoying.
Too much noise. Too much unpredictability. Too many variables packed into one place, all moving in contradictory directions with little regard for structure or personal space. The Grand Hub celebration had somehow multiplied those problems tenfold.
Lanterns swayed overhead in warm golds and blues. Hunters laughed too loudly after one too many drinks, music drifted from every corner, and the smell of grilled food clung stubbornly to the air.
It was overstimulating.
Erik or Olivia would sometimes enrich his mind with tales from the Grand Hub as Werner himself preferred to stay as far away as possible from all the noise. However, with each story they told him, Werner grew more interested in how each festival was so quickly and efficiently prepared. He came to watch and see how it was done due to an ask from you but was starting to regret.
“I knew it.”
Werner startled just enough to be annoyed at himself for startling.
You stood beside him with an expression far too amused for someone who had just snuck up on him.
“You’re people-watching,” you said.
“I am simply observing,” Werner stated while crossing his arms.
“You’ve been standing here for twenty minutes,” you fired back at him.
“There's a reason,” he replied stiffly, gesturing vaguely toward the elaborate stage lighting near the center of the Hub. “The lantern system is moderately impressive.”
Your grin widened, “Mhm.”
“You’re mocking me. I can tell,” Werner frowned at you while recrossing his arms.
“Maybe a little,” you responded with a shrug.
He sighed.
You had developed an unfortunate habit of doing that—smiling at him like he was saying something charming instead of practical. It was deeply distracting.
Worse, you always stood too close.
Not close enough to be inappropriate. Just close enough that he noticed, which was a feat in itself.
The warmth of your shoulder near his arm. The way you leaned in whenever he muttered something under his breath. The faint scent of soap and smoke and trees from earlier hunts.
Annoyingly noticeable things. He disliked how noticeable they were.
“You didn’t have to come, you know,” you said gently. “I’m honestly surprised you agreed.”
“I didn’t agree,” Werner corrected. “You insisted.”
You laughed, “You could’ve said no.”
“I attempted to, but you already took off,” he countered.
“You sighed dramatically and followed me anyway,” you grinned at him.
He frowned and tightened the hold on his arms, his fingers turning white from the pressure.
“…Whatever you say,” he eventually muttered while turning his head away from your gaze.
You laughed harder. An angelic sound that seemed to block out all the other festival noise.
It did something deeply inconvenient to his chest. His heart fluttered wildly like one of Erik's jarred butterflies. Beating so quickly but unable to escape.
He still hadn’t figured out what to do about that.
The celebration stretched on around both of you.
At some point, you dragged him between food stalls despite his insistence that he was perfectly capable of feeding himself. You even tried to convince him to have a drink. Stating something like, "it would loosen him up". He was thankful to have avoided that.
At another point, you somehow convinced him to try one of the festival sweets. He regretted admitting he liked it. You had looked unbearably pleased.
Now the two of you stood near the edge of the Hub overlooking the water, away from the thickest part of the crowd.
The Diva’s voice drifted through the evening air. She had come up to her stage without the two of you noticing.
Her voice soft and powerful. Beautiful enough that even Werner had stopped pretending not to listen.
You leaned against the wooden railing beside him.
“This is nice,” you said quietly.
“Hm.”
“You’re having fun. It's nice to see you enjoy yourself outside of work,” you mentioned, sparing him a glance.
“I never said I was having fun,” he turned to look at you, uncrossing his arms to place his hands on his hips.
“You don’t have to,” you murmured, e/c eyes peering into his own.
Your shoulder bumped his lightly. Werner looked away far too quickly.
An unpleasant warmth crawled up the back of his neck. He was certain that if the lighting were clearer in this area, you could see the red on his face. Werner was grateful for the darkness.
He has dealt with the shenanigans that came with being a part of the Astrum Unit. He's seen a lot of monsters during that time to that would send many people in a panic.
But you were just standing there. Being kind. Looking at him like he mattered. Entirely unreasonable behavior in his eyes.
“…You should be with the others,” he said after a moment.
You blinked, “What?”
“The celebration,” he said, voice awkwardly measured, “You could spend it with… people more entertaining. Like Alma or Olivia. Or even Erik.”
You stared.
Then your expression softened in a way that immediately made him nervous. He started to fidget in place a little.
“Werner,” you said quietly, “I wanted to spend it with you.”
Ah.
There it was again.
That horrible sensation in his chest. The one that made coherent thought increasingly difficult. His heart once again pounding and trying to escape as a heat stronger than any forge crept up his neck.
“…I see,” Werner whispered more to himself than to you.
You huffed out a laugh, “That’s all you’ve got?”
He opened his mouth.
Closed it.
Opened it again.
What exactly was he supposed to say to that?
No blueprint existed for this. No procedure. No predictable outcome. There was a reason that Werner tried to keep his feelings at bay. Feelings were unpredictable and therefore dangerous to deal with.
You looked almost embarrassed now, fiddling absently with your sleeve.
“I just…” you paused. “I like being around you.”.
Oh, that was complicating. Severely complicating.
Because Werner liked being around you too. Far more than was reasonable. He found himself looking for you without meaning to. Saving things he thought you’d find interesting. Remembering details you mentioned offhand.
Allowing interruptions to his work if they came from you, which should have alarmed him far more than it did. He only focused on things that he considered of importance, and apparently—to him—
—you mattered. A dangerous amount.
The Diva’s voice swelled in the distance, the final song reaching its peak.
People nearby began gathering closer in the crowd. You could pick out Erik and Alma, watching in awe just as everyone else was. Hunters paused from their drinking and Palicos paused from their mischief.
Fireworks then began.
Right. He had intended to leave before then to avoid the excess noise.
Instead, somehow, he was still here and standing beside you.
Heart behaving strangely. Mind entirely unhelpful. It was the first time that Werner felt his brain malfunctioning.
You shifted awkwardly.
“Sorry,” you said with a sheepish laugh, “That probably sounded weird.”
“No,” Werner said immediately.
Too quickly. You blinked.
He exhaled slowly, moving to run his hands over his face. Werner attempted organization. Attempted composure.
Failed somewhat.
“…You are,” he started, then frowned, brow furrowed, “inconvenient.”
Your face fell, lips parted, eyes widening at his words. He could practically see tears before they fell.
He internally panicked.
“No,” he said quickly. “That was—incorrect phrasing.”
“Wow,” you muttered, turning away, “You really know how to sweep someone off their feet.”
“This is difficult for me, Y/N.”
That made you pause and slowly turn to look back at him.
Your name.
He just said your name.
Every other time you've had a conversation with this man, he would ask what your name was. Saying how he didn't clutter his mind with things of unimportance and the like. Remember you from the "bird" unit and that was about it.
But he just said your name.
“…Oh?”
The first firework burst overhead.
Gold scattered across the sky.
Light reflected across the entire area.
The Diva reached her final notes.
Werner barely registered any of it. Because somehow, impossibly, this felt more terrifying than anything he's faced.
“You occupy a concerning amount of my attention,” he said carefully.
You stared, heart hammering.
“I think about things I normally would not,” He pulled at his sleeve for the fourth time in a minute. “I notice when you are absent. I… prefer when you are nearby.”
Another firework bloomed overhead.
Blue this time.
You looked completely frozen.
Werner forged onward through sheer determination.
“You are distracting,” he admitted quietly. “But not unpleasantly so.”
A pause, and then he muttered, “…Actually, very pleasantly.”
You made the tiniest strangled sound.
His ears felt hot.
“You said you like being around me,” he continued, voice quieter now. “I find that feeling appears to be…mutual.”
The silence stretched.
“Are you trying to say you...like me?” you asked softly.
“I think so. Did I say something wrong?” Werner worried a little that he said the wrong thing again, but you just smiled.
A laugh burst out of you. Warm and bright.
Fond enough to make his stomach flip unpleasantly.
Pleasantly. Whatever.
“You are such a disaster,” you said, smiling so hard it looked like you might burst.
Werner sighed, annoyed at himself.
“Calling me inconvenient? I thought you were more composed than this,” you giggled, crossing your arms with an amused mirth in your eyes.
“I corrected myself,” he muttered while rubbing the back of his neck.
“Barely!”
“…I am not particularly skilled at this. Feelings and such,” Werner seemed a little ashamed at this. He thought of Erik's bubbly personality. The biologist would've been smoother at this than he was.
Something softened in your expression.
“You’re doing okay,” you told him fondly.
The fireworks continued overhead, brilliant and loud.
Then, quietly—
“I like you too, Werner.”
Everything stopped.
Not literally.
The music still played. The fireworks still crackled overhead. The crowd still cheered.
But for a moment, Werner could only stare at you.
“…You do?”
You laughed softly.
“Yes, genius.”
That strange warmth in his chest expanded into something almost unbearable. He thought a heart attack was in his future due to the fact he could barely count a pulse at this point.
You stepped closer.
Close enough that your shoulder pressed lightly against his.
“You know,” you said, voice teasing, “most people say something romantic during fireworks.”
Werner considered that outcome. He glanced at you to see you looking at him, the fireworks reflecting in the pools of your e/c eyes.
Then awkwardly reached for your hand.
Like he wasn’t entirely sure he was allowed.
When you immediately squeezed back, something inside him quietly unraveled.
“…I dislike crowds,” he then confessed, looking at the mass of people below and trying to distract himself from the warmth of your hand.
You snorted, “I know.”
“But,” he paused, glancing at you, a hint of a smile, “I don't mind it if it means being around you.”
Your face went impossibly soft.
“You really mean that?”
He hesitated. Then slowly nodded.
You beamed.
“Oh my gosh,” you giggled. “Willing to brave a horde of people for me? That’s basically a love confession from you.”
“I already confessed enough,” Werner muttered, a hint of annoyance in his voice.
“Yeah, but now I get bonus emotional vulnerability from you,” you laughed, squeezing his hand.
“I regret speaking,” he stated firmly.
“No you don’t.”
You were right. Unfortunately.
As another burst of light painted the sky, you leaned against him fully this time. In a feat of bravery, you leaned over and gave him a kiss on the cheek. It lasted literally one second.
But given how frozen in place he became afterwards, you actually thought you stopped his heart. You simply leaned back into him in order to give some life back.
And after only a brief moment of hesitation—
Werner returned the loving gesture, leaning into the warmth of your side as the festival came to a bright and shining end.
Sorry, I know i made a request already but this popped in my head earlier today and I wanted to send it before I go to sleep and forget it
Can I request headcanons for the Rangers? Where Azuria is having some kinda of party/festival/something with dancing and the princess takes time to get at least one dance with each of the Rangers?
YES I LOVE THIS
Also want to apologize for my long absence, and the fact it will take me longer to post stuff because I recently got a new job in a new place and am trying to adjust. Thanks for understanding!
Dancing with the Rangers Headcanons
F! Reader
Let me set the scene: night has fallen in the square of the capital of Azuria—music, lanterns, nobles, food stalls, and a dance. The princess quietly makes it her mission to get at least one dance with every Ranger.
Simon
Simon almost doesn't dance at all. He spends the first half of the evening lingering near walls or stands, pretending he's perfectly content with watching everyone else.
When you finally approach him with a smile and hold out your hand—he feels betrayed.
"You looked lonely over here, Simon. Come dance with me."
Simon is awkward at first—stiff shoulders, unsure of where to put his hands, and he keeps apologizing if he steps wrong.
But once he relaxes, he is surprisingly gentle.
Simon is the type to focus completely on you during a dance. It's as if the rest of the festival fades out. He notices everything—if your feet hurt, if your dress is irritating, if you're cold, if nobles have been annoying you.
Halfway through the night, he mutters, "You should be enjoying yourself too, you know. Everyone's been demanding your attention all night."
If someone tries to interrupt, he gives them a look that says absolutely not.
When the dance ends, he hesitates before letting go. Like he wants to ask for another but doesn't. He absolutely spends the rest of the night secretly watching to make sure nobody bothers you.
Gaul
Gaul absolutely already knows how to dance, but he keeps that secret to himself. He's attended formal events, learned proper noble etiquette, and the like.
You go up to ask him, and he immediately gives a playful sort of mock bow, saying, "It would be an honor, Princess."
Liar. He kind of wanted to hide in the crowd the whole evening. But while Gaul may be sassy on occasion with you, he isn't one to refuse his captain and his princess. So, he puts on his A game to make sure you have a nice time.
Out of all the Rangers, he's the smoothest dancer. Confident lead and perfect posture. He makes you feel safe the entire time.
If you're nervous or overwhelmed, he subtly guides you away from the more crowded areas. He compliments you in a respectful way, but still very Gaul: "You're covered in less dirt than usual—it's a radiant look on you."
And somehow—with him—it sounds so sincere that it leaves you flustered.
Gaul definitely notices every noble staring at you, and he gets a tiny bit territorial. He's the type to quietly ask if any of them have been bothering you.
If you joke about him sounding jealous, he nearly chokes and threatens to just leave you there on the dance floor all by your lonesome. It makes you giggle.
When the dance ends, he kisses your hand like it's the most natural thing in the world.
Kora
Kora acts like she's too bust, saying, "A dance? With me? Isn't there someone else you'd prefer?"
She's teasing of course. The second you insist, she gives in with an amused sigh.
Kora is surprisingly good at dancing. She's not formal-perfect like Gaul, but experienced. She is relaxed and confident.
She spends the entire dance trying to make you laugh because she understands how stressful things can be for you. Dry humor and playful teasing. Usually involves Simon.
"Careful, Highness. People start rumors if you and Simon keep sneaking off together."
Kora is also very protective of you. If she notices you've been overwhelmed by royal duties, she purposely sneaks you outside for air afterward.
Probably steals festival desserts for the two of you.
Definitely gives off the vibes of your mother, and Kora quietly gets emotional seeing you enjoying yourself as if she is feeling how Amara would feel.
At one point, she softly says, "Your mom loved festivals like this."
And then ruins the emotional moment by adding, "Though I think she danced worse than you."
Ogden
Poor Ogden
This man is not physically or emotionally prepared for dancing and was planning on just watching everyone else. You asking him to dance causes him to visibly short-circuit.
"M-Me? My lady, I don't think-"
Just dance with me."
At first, he is very stiff, kind of nervous, and unsure of where to put his feet. Eventually, he starts to get the hang of it. By the end of the night, he actually starts to have fun.
Like Kora, he tries to make you laugh because he understands your stressful life. And he does a good job at it.
Ogden gives you grandfather vibes—makes you feel safe while having fun at the same time.
He's shorter than you, so you end up twirling him around. Lots of laughter, all his earlier nerves fading completely.
By the end of the dance, he asks if you guys could do it again. But judging by his shaky legs, you ask for a rain check on that offer and instead insist on raiding the food stalls.
Thea
She is SO excited and been waiting all evening for this. The second she sees you are free:
"MY TURN!"
This is not graceful ballroom dancing. This is chaotic spinning. You both are laughing, nearly tripping, and accidentally abandon the proper dancing halfway through because she wants to freestyle.
At one point she absolutely grabs your hands and twirls you too fast. You spend most of the dance laughing.
She keeps complimenting your outfit every thirty seconds: "You look so pretty! Absolute princess perfection!"
At some point Thea gets distracted by festival snacks. The dance somehow turns into wandering stalls together.
If anyone comments that a princess shouldn't be fooling around so casually, Thea immediately puffs up and defends you. Sometimes she goes a little overboard and you have to drag her away from the sitatuation.
Ends the night by dramatically declaring, "Best dance partner EVER!"
Hi! If you're still taking requests, I have one for Erik!
I loved your Flustered Researcher fic and was thinking of a similar scenario; a new festival in the grand hub leads to the hunter actually getting dressed up! Not just fancier/embellished armor but actual formal wear- light/flowy, not meant to protect but enhance! Maybe some light makeup to accentuate features that the hunter wouldn't normally worry about (sonce why would you when fighting? Sweat would ruin that anyways)
They get fun skins so what about us for the occasion! Just a nice time to hang around the hub for once and chat with everyone. Bonus if this also makes him realize that others have /also/ noticed the new outfit and are giving the handler more attention than they normally would've 🤭 a liiiiitle jealousy isn't a bad thing..
OMG YES I hope you like this!!❤️Haven't written for him in a while, but still love Erik to death. Hope I captured his personality well
More Than Your Armor
A festival in the Grand Hub gives you the rare chance to trade armor for elegant formalwear—and Erik is completely unprepared for how stunning you look. As unexpected attention from others sparks a hint of jealousy, the flustered biologist finds himself wanting the evening all to himself.
Erik x GN! Reader
Live Erik reaction to seeing his hunter get flirted with:
The Grand Hub had never looked like this before.
Lanterns in warm gold and soft teal drifted overhead like captured stars, strung between towering beams and the massive monster bones. Music carried through the air—lively, bright, impossible to ignore. Even the ever-busy hunters had traded their usual armor for something lighter, something celebratory. And the Felynes joined in the fun too.
There were festivals before, but this one was over the top.
And for once, the Guild had insisted—no armor required for the hunters attending.
Which was how you found yourself standing just outside your tent, staring down at your own reflection with a mix of disbelief and mild embarrassment.
“…This feels wrong,” you muttered while twirling around to see yourself in the little mirror that Alma let you borrow.
Your usual gear—battle-worn, reliable, and forged from strong monster parts—was gone. In its place was something entirely different.
Soft fabric instead of hardened plates and forged steel. Flowing layers that moved when you breathed. Light accents that shimmered in the lantern glow, making you look more like some ethereal being. Your boots were quieter, lighter. Your shoulders—unburdened from heavy armor. Your weapon of choice lay off to the side against your chest, where numerous clothing articles lay tossed aside.
And the makeup…
You touched your cheek, still not entirely used to it. Subtle, but enough to catch the light. Enough to highlight features you’d never once thought about mid-hunt, especially if your face is obscured by a metal helm.
“Not once in my life have I ever dressed up like this. Except maybe that one Guild event years ago...,” you murmured to yourself while leaning your face closer to the mirror to inspect your handiwork.
But tonight, you weren’t hunting or trying to impress higher-ups.
So, you took a breath—and stepped out into the evening air and faint lantern light.
The reaction was immediate.
“Whoa—”
“Is that—?”
“Hey, look at you!”
You paused as a few familiar hunters turned your way, clearly caught off guard. One gave a low whistle, another laughed in disbelief.
“Didn’t know you cleaned up like that,” one of them teased.
You rolled your eyes, but there was warmth behind it. You snickered, saying, “Don’t get used to it.”
Near the entrance to your tent, you could hear Alma chuckle. You quickly turned to see her hiding her face behind her book to avoid your gaze. You shook your head before glancing back at your fellow hunters, who continued to shower you with compliments and teasing flirts that truthfully didn't mean anything.
Their attention lingered a little longer than usual.
You felt it as you moved through the hub—glances, double takes, quiet murmurs. Not uncomfortable, but… different enough for you to take notice.
And suddenly, you were very aware of how exposed you felt without armor. It made you feel a little self-conscious.
You adjusted your sleeve slightly, scanning the crowd for a familiar face.
There.
At a table near the far side of the hub, half-hidden behind a stack of notes he absolutely shouldn’t have brought to a festival was Erik. For a table that could hold many a person, he seems to have claimed it all for himself given the number of papers he had there. The biologist was excitedly scribbling something down. A small grin on his lips as he did so.
He didn’t notice you at first.
Of course he didn’t.
He was hunched over parchment, silver hair falling messily into his face, freckles dusted across his cheeks as he muttered something to himself while writing.
Some things never changed.
You smiled, stepping closer.
“Working at a festival? I'm not too surprised,” you said fondly while clasping your hands behind your back.
Erik jumped a little at the sudden sound of your voice.
Slowly, he looked up.
And forgot how to speak.
For a full five seconds, he just stared. His green eyes scanned your figure while his ears turned a light shade of pink.
Then he blinked.
Then stared again.
“…Oh,” he said faintly as he took in your appearance.
You crossed your arms, trying—and failing—not to smile, saying, “That bad?”
“No,” he said immediately. Way too quickly he realized. “No, not bad—I mean—it’s—you—”
Erik stood so abruptly his chair scraped loudly against the stone floor. Some papers scattered about by his feet, but he ignored them at the moment.
“I just—I wasn’t prepared—”
“For what?” you asked, stepping a little closer and leaning against the table opposite of him.
Erik swallowed hard.
“For… that,” he said weakly, gesturing vaguely at you.
You raised an eyebrow, “That?”
“You look—” He stopped, ran a hand through his hair and dragged it down his face, and tried again, meekly stating, “You look…incredible.”
The sincerity in his voice hit harder than any teasing ever could. The honesty and admiration was just so Erik.
“Oh, thank you then,” you said, a little softer now, eyes downcast at his mess of notes while a light pink hit your cheeks.
His gaze flickered over you again, slower this time—but not in a way that made you uncomfortable. It was careful. Reverent, almost.
“You’re not wearing armor,” he murmured, like he was just realizing it. Again, that was so Erik.
“That’s kind of the point of the festival. Us hunters get to relax a little. Let our bodies breathe a little better without the weight of heavy armor,” you explained to him, vaguely gesturing at the crowd around you guys—also hunters who were absent of their chainmail.
“Yes, but—” He gestured helplessly as your form, “You’re…unguarded. What if some savage monsters were to attack?”
You tilted your head and gave him a dumbfounded look, “I’m safe. It’s the Hub. No monster is going to swoop in with this much activity.”
“I know,” he said quietly while picking up the papers that his panic made fall to the ground, “It just feels…different. Seeing you like this. But I...”
You couldn't catch the tail end of his sentence. But before you could ask him to repeat himself, a voice cut in from behind you.
“Well, if it isn’t the star of the evening.”
You turned. Erik peered over your shoulder after placing his papers back on their stack.
One of the other hunters—someone from a neighboring unit—approached with an easy grin, clearly emboldened by the festival atmosphere and available booze.
“Didn’t recognize you at first,” they added, “You look amazing.”
“Thanks,” you said, polite but a little caught off guard. Sure, you've gotten some compliments this evening, but no one approached you like this.
“Want a drink? I was just heading over—”
“No,” Erik said boldly.
Both of you turned to him. You were shocked while the other hunter looked a little peeved—their question clearly wasn't directed at the biologist.
Erik blinked, clearly realizing what he’d just done and said—and the mess he might've just gotten himself in.
“I mean—not that you can’t—you absolutely can—I just—”
The other hunter smirked slightly, annoyance fading as they nudged you, “Didn’t realize you were taken.”
Erik flushed till his face was Rathalos red and sputtered, “I— we—it’s—”
If only Olivia was here to save him from himself. But thankfully, you could fill that role. You stepped around the table smoothly, resting a hand lightly against Erik’s arm.
“I am,” you said simply.
The hunter raised their hands in surrender, grin still lingering. “Alright, alright. Didn’t mean to step on toes.”
They backed off, disappearing into the crowd. You could hear the hollering of their friends as they ordered another round of drinks. The noise was loud, but silence settled between you and Erik.
“…Sorry,” he said after a moment, voice small as he rubbed the back of his neck, “That was unprofessional. I don't normally get so...”
"Flustered and loose lipped and nervous?" You offered with a raised brow. He nodded, looking a little ashamed of himself.
You looked at him, really looked at him—at the way his shoulders were tense, the way he avoided your eyes.
“Were you jealous?” you asked gently.
His entire face turned red, and suddenly his nervous energy returned like he was a boy ten years younger.
“I—no—I mean—maybe a little—”
You laughed softly and wrapped your arms around his own.
He groaned, covering his face, “Please don’t laugh. I know I shouldn't be—”
“Don't worry about it,” you said, squeezing his arm lightly, “It’s kind of nice.”
Erik peeked at you through his fingers, “Nice?”
“Mhm,” you smiled at him, “Means you care.”
His expression softened, something warm and vulnerable replacing the fluster.
“I always care,” he said quietly, "but perhaps I get so absorbed in my work that I forget to tell you sometimes."
For a moment, the noise of the festival faded into the background. The hollering and the singing and the drinking all disappeared.
Then Erik cleared his throat, awkward again but trying.
“Would you…like to walk?” he asked, “Just—away from the crowd. So, I don’t have to fight anyone else for your attention.”
You grinned and moved to peck his cheek—making his face go red once again, saying, “Lead the way.”
You ended up on one of the quieter outskirts the hub. Where the lantern light still hit, a small stream ran through, and you guys got a hint of nature instead of intense hunter and Felyne shenanigans.
The music was softer here as was the roar of the crowd. The festival continued—laughter, dancing, life in motion.
Erik stood beside you. You still had your arm looped through his, not allowing him to escape.
“I’m glad you wore this,” he said after a while.
“Yeah?”
He nodded. “I get to see a side of you that hunting and quests usually hide.”
You nudged him lightly, asking, “And you like it?”
He looked at you then—really looked. Erik's green eyes searched your own and a fond smile came upon his face.
“Very much.”
You leaned into him, resting your head against his shoulder. Then you gave him another cheek kiss, enjoying your little game of how many times can you make the silver-haired biologist turn red this evening.
He stiffened for half a second—then melted, relaxing into your touch.
After a moment, he carefully slipped his arm out of yours and placed it around you, like he was afraid you might disappear if he held too tightly.
“I might still be a little jealous,” he admitted sheepishly.
You smiled against him, “Good.”
He huffed a quiet laugh and gently squeezed your shoulder.
“But,” he added softly, “I don’t need to be. Because at the end of the night…you’re still here.”
“Always,” you murmured.
And for once, there were no monsters to hunt. No danger waiting beyond the horizon. Just warmth, light, and the quiet certainty that even without armor—you were safe in each other.
Simon with a princess who expresses her gratitude with physical affection. He thinks nothing of it at first, the princess hugs most of the other rangers + Eleanor.
But she's always kissed his cheek ever since they were little, and he's yet to see anyone else on the receiving end.
Awww cute idea!!! I hope headcanons are okay❤️
Simon with a Princess Who Expresses Gratitude with Physical Affection
Simon x F! Reader
You've always been one to show physical affection as a form of gratitude. You don't know why, but it was this way ever since you were young. Perhaps stemming from not getting enough affection as a child, but that's a whole other debate.
Simon genuinely does not think anything of it at first. Physical affection is just who you are. You hug people. You cling to people.
You loop your arm through Eleanor's when walking, and both of you laugh at something he doesn't understand. You tackle-hug Thea after missions, the younger lady returning the over affectionate gestures. You give Ogden a gentle hug and a high five after you guys see some cool monster behavior. You've absolutely hugged Gaul after difficult assignments despite his stiff panic. Even Kora gets shoulder bumps and side hugs whenever you two return from spelunking or you just need her advice.
So, Simon never questions it. Because to him, that's just how the Princess of Azuria is. You kiss his cheek and that's totally normal. It happens all the time, ever since you were children.
It all started years ago when you were ridiculously little. Simon got hurt protecting you from something stupid—falling out of a tree, chased by a Velociprey, something very "royal child escaping supervision of their peers". He was upset because he thought he'd ruined the day, but tiny-you grabbed his face and kissed his cheek.
"Thank you, Simon."
Tiny-Simon.exe stopped responding. He froze.
But it became a habit after that. Before you all went to bed, after missions, when he helped you, when he comforted you, and whenever you were especially happy to see him. A kiss on the cheek. Neither of you really questioned it.
Even years later, you still do it naturally and effortlessly without hesitation. Simon brings you some tea after a long patrol? Kiss. Protects you during a dangerous mission? Kiss. Simply shows up after a long and tiring day? Kiss.
Simon barely reacts anymore. Just a tiny smile and maybe a faint pink tint to his ears. But otherwise, it was just normal and routine.
He starts to realize things when something like Kora points it out because of course, she does. One day after you kiss Simon's cheek and wander off, Kora looks between him and where you went, giving him a look.
"So...," she mentions.
"So?" Simon questions.
"You know she only ever does that to you, right?"
Simon then starts paying attention, which is unfortunate because he suddenly realizes that Kora is absolutely right. You hug Gaul, you pat Thea's head, you lock arms with Eleanor, you side hug Kora, and you give Ogden's shoulder a friendly squeeze. But the cheek kisses? Only him. Only ever him. Simon spends the next week quietly losing his mind.
Suddenly everything feels different because now every cheek kiss feels dangerously intimate, and you do it so casually too. Like it's second nature and it means something. Or maybe it doesn't? Maybe it's just habit? Maybe you don't even think about it. Maybe he's just reading into this.
Simon becomes painfully aware of things he's ignored before. You stand closer to him. You seek him out first. You trust him with things you hide from everyone else. You always look for him in a crowd. And worst of all? You smile differently with him. So soft and automatic, like he's the safe space among your royal chaos.
The moment he really notices this is one day after a rough mission, you hug everyone. Eleanor gets a grateful squeeze. Gaul gets a respectful hug. Thea nearly gets tackled. Ogden gets a first bump and you side hug Kora. Then you reach Simon, and your expression softens immediately. You cup his face for half a second—and kiss his cheek.
Simon suddenly feels like his heart forgot how to function because it feels so natural, so warm, so you. And you really don't do that with anyone else.
Afterwards, Simon gets weird. Not distant or anything, just quieter and more thoughtful. He catches himself touching the cheek you kissed without realizing. Kora notices immediately.
"Wow. Took you long enough," she would say.
Thea and Ogden absolutely make it worse, exclaiming, "Oh my gosh wait—do you like her?!"
Eleanor thinks the whole thing is adorable, and Gaul just sighs like he's been aware of this for years.
If he finally asks about it, one day, maybe while walking together or after another automatic cheek kiss. Simon would finally ask why you only ever do that with him.
And you just smile at him, like the answer should be obvious.
"Because it's you, Simon."
The poor guy completely stops functioning because what the hell is he supposed to do with that information. And it makes matters worse if you tilt your head and innocently add, "I thought you liked it. Kora said so."
Congratulations. You've accidentally killed Simon and his will to function normally.
He should've known that the day you found him in the woods, smiled at him, and gave him a home and a found family—he should've known he was screwed. His heart was yours from the very start—and it will make his life a lot easier when he realizes your heart is his too.
Can honestly see Erik from Wilds acting the same way tho. Hunter from Avis speaks with physical affection, but Erik always gets a kiss on the cheek and it takes his biologist brain forever to figure it out while Olivia is just like 🙄🙄
Headcanons of what would happen if Eleanor and the Azurian prince produced an heir?? Completely SFW, of course
For sure! Enjoy! Also was searching my screenshots for any pictures I had that didn't involve Simon or Gaul. Was pleased to find a decent one of Eleanor—then I saw the background
Eleanor and The Prince with an Heir (Eleanor as a Mom Headcanons)
Eleanor x M! Reader
Overall, the two kingdoms absolutely lose their minds. The announcement becomes the biggest political and emotional event in Azuria and Vermeil.
Eleanor is adored in both kingdoms, and her sister seems to trust you after seeing how devoted you are to her. The child between the two of you is symbolized as peace between Azuria and Vermeil.
Festivals are thrown, the two of you get so many gifts for the child, and there are definitely paintings of the royal family with their monsties included.
When Eleanor gets pregnant, she tries to act normal. Meaning, she insists that she is perfectly capable of continuing her duties. Meanwhile, you disagree.
She still tries attending meetings and traveling early on; Eleanor still wants to ride her monstie and explore. You become ridiculously protective without meaning to; holding her hand when walking, hovering near stairs, and constantly asking her questions.
Eleanor teases you mercilessly for this. But she secretly loves how attentive you are.
When the baby finally arrives, everyone in both kingdoms is an emotional wreckage, especially you. You try so hard to stay composed, but when you see the baby, you're done for. The people can't help but find the heir to be adorable, especially if they have Eleanor's eyes, your hair, and tiny little serious expressions.
Eleanor is a gentle but capable mother. She is extremely loving, but also very practical. She's the type to kiss scrapes and bruises, calmly solve problems, and teach kindness.
Her child doesn't grow to be spoiled in the sense that a royal would be. Of course, your heir is spoiled by the people around them who adore them, but not personally by you or Eleanor. She and you teach your child that by being royalty you should serve your people, and not always the other way around.
Eleanor is protective in quiet ways. She isn't overbearing, but Gog help anyone who threatens her child. Eleanor goes from warm princess to terrifying mother, enough to put a Rathian to shame. She's very calm, very polite, but also very scary. Even Angie becomes a little scared.
Speaking of Angie, her and Ratha of course become protective bodyguards. Obviously not everyone in either kingdom is thrilled by the heir, so there strong monsties help keep their riders' child safe from harm. Sometimes they can be a little overbearing.
Eleanor is the queen of bedtime stories. The child grows up hearing stories of her adventures with you, stories of monsters, of Vermeil, of her sister. Throughout her stories, you may interrupt and inform her that's not how something happened. But it may be how she remembers it—especially if it embarrasses you.
For sure royal family rides on the monsties. Since Angie can't fly, sometimes the three of you pile on Ratha if he's willing—which he normally is. And you guys ride all around the land, enjoying some peace and serenity.
When it comes to your fellow Ranger's and Rudy's reactions, it goes a little something like this.
Rudy gets excited at the mention of an heir. Excited to serve your child just as he served you—and he promises to serve even better since he's gotten so much more experienced. He offers to help where he can—but more often than not, he kind of gets in the way when the child is still very young.
Kora immediately becomes the cool aunt and spoils the child terribly. Since Amara can't remember her family, Kora kind of steps in that position. She is very proud of you and is excited to see how your child will grow.
Ogden is excited for you because he is the only other Ranger who's had a child and he knows how fun it can be when they are young. Offers you advice and reassurance—and absolutely teaches your little one all about monsters.
Gaul becomes an uncle of sorts, but it's the kind of relationship where the child adores him, but he did nothing to encourage that behavior. That said—while he admits he doesn't really feel a connection to the child—he will murder anyone who tries to harm them.
Simon is the instant favorite uncle though. He's surprisingly soft and very protective. The child adores him, and Simon can't help but get a little teasing by saying things like, "Your father is boring. Come, young heir, we ride," and then takes your child for a little adventure.
Thea is the perfect person for you and Eleanor to hand your kid over to when some energy is needed to be burned off. There are countless times when Thea and your child are off chasing poogies, and Rudy desperately tries to stop them saying, "this isn't fit behavior for a future ruler!"
Clarissa is an interesting one because she is an actual blood relative—the heir's aunt. She has to process the whole thing on a personal level, mostly because it's hard to picture her little sister with a man. But eventually she comes around and gets rather smitten with the little one. She will never admit it and always acts annoyed whenever there is a visit. But she does get all soft when holding the baby or interacting with the child—Eleanor catches her every time.
Fic Concept: male Prince of Azuria reader in an au where the azurian royal family have elder dragons as monsties (the king has a kushla Dora (the wind one with the metal body)) and the prince has a Primordial Malzeno. The rest of the rangers also have elder dragons that fit them. So when vermeil attacks, they don’t get much progress done and they quickly regret it. Clarissa most of all, who squares off with the prince directly.
For sure!
M/N = Monstie's Name
Crown of The Elders
At the heart of the conflict, you confront Queen Clarissa in a decisive aerial duel, swiftly defeating her and proving the overwhelming strength of Azuria's mighty elder dragons. Instead of ending the war through destruction, you use that victory to make a bold declaration—you intend to marry Princess Eleanor.
Eleanor x M! Reader
The sky over Azuria never stayed still anymore. Not since war broke out.
Wind sheared across the battlements in silver spirals—the mark of a Kushala Daora circling high above the castle. Its steel scales flashed between storm clouds as it answered only one will:
King Arken's.
The king would be the last line of defense against Vermeil should the others somehow not prevail. A Kushala Daora would be more than enough to blow their forces away. But he and the rest of the guard still had strong hope in you—the Prince of Azuria.
Below, gathered along outside the castle with the border in sight, stood a sight to behold.
You. And the Rangers.
You were a rider of a creature few dared even name aloud.
At your side, the air itself seemed to thin as a pale, regal figure unfolded its wings—your Primordial Malzeno, M/N. Its presence pressed against the world like a held breath; crimson eyes fixed on the horizon where Vermeil’s army approached.
Your armor matched your partner's pale white scales and golden horns. The metallic surface stood out against the world around you and your elder dragon.
Behind you, your Rangers stood ready—each armored in the image of their bonded elder dragon.
Kora’s armor burned with azure elegance, patterned after her Lunastra—whose blue flames sparked from her dangerous maw as her mane burned an eerie indigo. Old fury burned within the blue elder dragon as, like her rider, she recently lost her partner. A Teostra who belonged to Lucas.
Ogden’s gear shimmered and blurred at the edges, like the illusion-weaving hide of his Chameleos. The poison wielding elder dragon, who usually boasted a goofy demeanor, stood flashing in and out sight with an aggressive growl.
Gaul stood like a walking storm, blackened armor crackling faintly with unstable energy—the mark of Alatreon. The elder dragon of many elements stood just as stoic behind its rider; its power could change the course of any battle, but it waited patiently for a command.
Simon’s armor gleamed in crystalline frost, echoing the elegance of Velkhana. The ice-laden elder dragon stood shrouded in crystals and frost, eagerly awaiting to freeze its enemies in place. Its rider may not share that rush for battle, but they moved in such sync you'd think they were one being.
And Thea—quiet, sharp-eyed but eager—stood beside a flicker of lightning incarnate, her armor threaded with blue and white like the mane of a Kirin. Her Kirin, a playful and rambunctious monstie for its species, pawed the ground and snorted. It would rather be elsewhere, but if Thea was going to have to fight, so too would it join her.
A kingdom of Riders. A kingdom of elder dragons.
And Vermeil…had still chosen war.
“They’re not slowing down,” Kora muttered, watching the distant banners and battle bound monsties. A Glavenus huffing there and a Tobi Kadachi screeching from somewhere else.
“They think numbers matter,” Gaul added, rolling his shoulders and narrowing his golden eyes.
You exhaled slowly, resting a hand against MN’s neck. It leaned into the touch—not submissive, never that—but aligned. Like it knew exactly what you were thinking at that moment.
“They don’t understand what they’re facing,” you said while gently patting the white scales of your elder dragon monstie.
A bell sounded.
Vermeil’s forces surged forward, the pounding of feet and the clinking of armor filling the area.
And then—the sky split.
Upon a silent order from King Arken, the Kushala Daora descended in a cyclone of screaming wind, scattering the front lines like leaves. Simon's Velkhana’s frost followed, freezing entire battalions in place—monsters stuck mid-strike. Lightning struck in blinding arcs as Thea's Kirin danced across the battlefield, while Odgen's Chameleos faded in and out of sight—soldiers falling to something they couldn’t even see.
Gaul's Alatreon roared as he mounted into the saddle.
Fire. Ice. Thunder. Dragon. A jack of all trades yet master of none. Apart from your Primordial Malzeno, Gaul's Alatreon was probably one of the strongest elder dragon monsties that Azuria had on its side.
Chaos answered.
Within minutes, Vermeil’s advance collapsed into disarray. Soldiers ran here and there, getting picked off by Ogden's Chameleos. Some riders turned their battle bound monsties, clearly not ready for such a furious defense.
“They’re retreating!” Ogden called, almost incredulous.
“No,” Simon said quietly with a slight grin, “They’re breaking apart entirely.”
You didn’t move. Your gaze swept across the battlefield, across the soldiers and riders, and had already found her.
At the center of the battlefield, cutting through the storm like a flame that refused to die—a battle bound skyscale Rathalos.
And atop it—Queen Clarissa.
The Rathalos—Ratha V—descended in a blazing arc, scattering your forces just enough to carve a path. Your ground soldiers, atop their Velocidromes, moved quickly to avoid being scorched. The riders on their Legianas could do little to stop the flaming flying wyvern in its frenzy.
Clarissa didn’t hesitate.
She flew straight toward you.
“Of course,” you murmured begrudgingly, more annoyed than worried, “She wants the crown Prince of Azuria.”
Your Primordial Malzeno shifted beside you, wings unfurling as a warning growl sounded.
You mounted in one smooth motion.
“Stay back,” you told your fellow Rangers. Ogden gave you a thumbs up while Thea cheered you on.
Gaul smirked, saying, “Try not to end it too fast, Your Highness.”
“No promises.”
Then you launched forwards in a blur of white towards Ratha V. Said Rathalos had his talons out, ready to engage with your elder dragon. To observers, the winner was already obvious.
The clash echoed like thunder.
Ratha V’s flames tore across the sky—M/N cut through them, elegant and untouchable, its movements precise where the battle bound Rathalos was fury and frenzy, unable to determine much more than the enemy before it.
Clarissa met your gaze midair, her expression sharp, unyielding. It was something to admire—her courage against such a fearsome foe.
“So,” she called, voice carrying over the chaos, “Azuria’s Prince hides behind his guard.”
You tilted your head slightly, a frown on your face. Just as you admired her courage, you also despised her arrogance. Can't she see that the battle is already won?
“And Vermeil’s queen throws her army at a wall and hopes it breaks,” you spat back at her, eyes narrowed as the two of you circled around each other in the air.
Her jaw tightened. Clarissa gripped the horns of her saddle tighter.
Ratha lunged.
Your Primordial Malzeno vanished—reappearing behind her in a blink of crimson light.
The first strike landed clean.
Clarissa reeled but recovered instantly, wheeling her Rathalos around with practiced control. Fire was spitting from the wyvern's mouth as it quickly readied a counterattack.
She was good. Very good.
But not—
You moved again faster than a shooting Valstrax before the fireball could hit your monstie.
—Faster.
Your Primordial Malzeno’s wings carved through the air, its power overwhelming, ancient, inevitable.
Another strike.
Then another.
Clarissa’s offense faltered. She gritted her teeth as she nearly slipped from the saddle, pulling on the battle bound Rathalos to get him to turn around and keep track of you—but your elder dragon was very fast.
Ratha V roared in frustration, flames scattering wildly now instead of controlled bursts.
You circled once, then stopped directly in front of her.
“Is that all you got?” you asked calmly, M/N growling.
Her glare could have cut steel. But even so, there was a flicker of doubt in her eyes. That quickly went away.
“You think this proves anything? Just because you ride an elder dragon, doesn't mean you are victorius!” she shouted at you, her grip tightening once again on Ratha V's saddle.
You considered that for half a second. Perhaps if Clarissa actually had a real bond with the monster she rode, then maybe she would have amounted to something in this fight. But it mattered not.
Then your Primordial Malzeno surged forward—one final, decisive blow.
Ratha V staggered midair, forced downward, crashing hard into the battlefield below. Needles flew from pine trees, the sound of bark cracking sounded out, and the soldiers that lagged immediately paused their activities.
Silence followed.
You landed moments later, M/N folding its wings with quiet finality. It huffed before taking a few quiet steps towards the fallen queen and her bruised battle bound monster.
Clarissa stood, breathing hard, her Rathalos struggling behind her, barely getting to his feet.
She was defeated, but still defiant.
“Just kill me already.” she demanded, eyes narrowed to slits of pure rage.
You stepped closer and dismounted, giving your Primordial Malzeno scales a pat as it kept an eye on Ratha V—although the Rathalos could barely move let alone light a flame.
“Why would I?”
She blinked, rage turning into confusion.
“You came here to fight,” you said. “Now you’ve seen our strength. But I'm no killer, even in a war. Walk away with some honor left.”
Her expression shifted—confusion, anger… and something else. Clarissa seemed to bear some understanding now. Whether it was towards Azuria's power or your own noble sense of honor, you didn't know—and frankly, you didn't care so long as you and your people walked away from this.
You glanced briefly toward the distant ridge.
Eleanor stood there beside Angie. Based on the Anjanath's puffs of breath, she probably rode here as fast as she could to stop any bloodshed. Thankfully, she didn't have to mourn her sister—or you. The look on her face appeared to be one of relief, of love when her eyes met yours.
A decision was made in your head. One that could suit both Azuria and Vermeil—and save both kingdoms from any further loss. Or in Vermeil's case from this battle, from any humiliation.
You looked back at Clarissa. There was a mischievous glint in your eyes as a smirk formed on your face. It made the Queen of Vermeil frown.
“I’m going to marry your sister,” you said plainly while crossing your arms.
The battlefield seemed to freeze all over again.
Your Primordial Malzeno seemed to gawk at you in surprise. Clarissa stared at you, eyes wide with shock.
“You—what?”
“I wanted to make sure,” you added, almost casually. “That you weren’t going to be a problem.”
A moment of silence passed. Perhaps you had some audacity to be talking to a queen like this, but she was thoroughly brought down to your level now after getting in a turf war with your elder dragon.
"With our marriage, Vermeil and Azuria can come to an accord without the need for battle. You've seen today that your forces are clearly no match for our elder dragons," you explained as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
For a moment, it looked like she might actually attack you again out of sheer disbelief.
Instead, she laughed. Short. Sharp. Disbelieving.
“…You’re insane,” she said.
“Probably.”
Her gaze flicked to M/N, who fluttered its wings in a threatening manner. Then to the sky, where Azuria’s Elder Dragons still ruled uncontested. A Kushala Daora, an Alatreon, a Chameleos, a Lunastra, a Velkhana, and Thea's Kirin stood below.
Then, finally, toward Eleanor. Clarissa gauged her little sister's expression—it was one of hope, yet fear was still present. Of course, Eleanor was probably unaware of the conversation between you and Clarissa. She wanted to protect Eleanor, sure, but was this the right way to do it?
And something in her posture shifted.
Not surrender. But acceptance.
“…She always did have terrible taste,” Clarissa muttered, but there was a subtle fondness in her tone as she thought of her younger sister.
You huffed a quiet laugh.
By sunset, the war was over.
Not through annihilation—but through understanding. And through a marriage between two individuals that actually cared about one another.
Vermeil had seen the truth. They could not win.
And more importantly—they didn’t need to.
Because their beloved princess stood not as an enemy, but rather as a bridge between the two kingdoms.
Later, as the battlefield quieted, you found Eleanor waiting at the edge of the ridge on Angie. By the look on her face, you knew that Clarissa had informed her sister of your terms. She dismounted her Anjanath as you dismounted your Primordial Malzeno.
“You’re impossible,” she said softly as you approached. You wrapped your arms around her in a hug.
“So I’ve been told,” you said with a slight laugh.
She gently pulled away from the hug. Her eyes searched yours.
“…Did you really say that? To her?” Eleanor asked, hope laced in her voice as her blue eyes lit up.
“Yes,” you gave her a sweet smile, "please marry me."
A pause.
Then Eleanor covered her face briefly, half-laughing, half-mortified. But there was a beaming smile behind her flustered expression, cheeks as red as Angie's fire.
“I can’t believe you,” she murmured.
You pulled her closer again with a mock frown, saying, “Is it a no then?”
Her hands lowered, exposing her pink cheeks. And her answer came without hesitation.
“No,” she said gently.
Then, with a small smile, she added, “…It’s a yes.”
Behind you, your Primordial Malzeno shifted and nudged Angie's side with a chuff, seemingly pleased for its rider. Angie growled in agreement, returning the nudge.
Above, your father's Kushala Daora circled and let out a metallic roar as if to signal that the war is all over. The rest of the Rangers and their elder dragons returned back to base where they could rest and ready themselves for whatever major threat decides to test Azuria's strength again.
And for the first time since the war with Vermeil began—the wind over Azuria felt calm.
after reading your simon as a father.... Gaul as a father to identical twins and he can obviously tell them apart even if you cant. (he already does so with his cats)
YES I LOVE THIS (I am doing one for Eleanor too, but when it came to who went first, I had to pick Gaul, he's my fave)❤️

Honestly, I can see him being the one bringing up the idea of children. It comes out of left field and catches you off guard. He probably randomly admits to it during a mission or something.
You find the subject matter endearing, but Gaul gets embarrassed. He's just trying to be more open about his feelings, and truth is, he wants a baby.
Overprotective to the max when you are pregnant. It's even worse if you still have an adventurous spirit and want to go out in the field. If Gaul won't come with you, then you'll have one of the other Rangers take his place. And then he's all like, "wait no, I'll do it". Works every time.
But he makes you tea and somehow knows all the herbs and medicine that make you feel more comfortable. Takes the best care of you even if he can be a little overbearing.
Afraid to touch you sometimes. Like, you'll snap in two if he gives you a hug.
Somehow appears super calm when you give birth. On the inside he may be freaking out, but outside he is the steady hand that you need during this difficult time. Composes himself really well, holds your hand, anything you ask of him.
Will shed a tear when he sees his child but always denies it if you bring it up.
With a baby, sometimes Gaul just watches them. Watching them breathe, their tiny movements, making sure they're okay. It's not necessarily paranoia, but just taking it all in. He'll be holding them—the baby so tiny compared to him—and he'll just be watching with a smile.
In the early beginnings, when the child was just a few weeks old, Gaul was more of a mess. He was supportive—getting up with you and staying up, helping where he can, but he was clueless. Was the definition of, "I fed them. I changed them. But they won't go back to sleep. Do I just hang out with them?"
Thankfully, he adapted very quickly and was soon more confident in his role as a dad.
His arms become the safest place possible for any of his children. Is the type where the baby would be crying—place them in Gaul's arms, and they immediately settle. He doesn't fidget, panic, or anything like that.
Gaul doesn't baby-talk much, but he does talk to them. In a soft and low quiet voice. He sounds serious; like he's talking to another adult, but the softness in his voice is a lot more endearing.
Once he adapts, he helps at night a lot more. Doesn't complain, no dramatics. If the baby cries, he's up immediately and checks what's wrong. And then walks slowly with them until they settle. Sometimes you find him asleep sitting in a chair with a baby against his chest.
When his children are in the toddler stage, Gaul's reality becomes "they climb on him like a jungle gym". Gaul doesn't encourage the chaos, but somehow it happens anyway. A child in his lap, perhaps another trying to climb on his shoulder. And he just sits there and takes it—doesn't stop them unless it becomes unsafe.
He's the type of father who teaches through observation. Gaul doesn't over explain things. He shows how to hold something properly, how to move carefully, how to pay attention, or how to combine something. He'll have his children watch as he demonstrates. And the kids copy him. It's adorable to see him doing something and then his children being his little shadows.
Gaul will raise his voice if need be if his child does something wrong and almost gets hurt. Not because he's actually angry, but because the worry he feels from the incident makes him stressed. Normally, a stern look and a frown is enough to make any of his children listen to him.
His parenting style overall is quietly observant. He doesn't hover or intervene unnecessarily. But Gaul is always watching, listening, and noticing patterns. He knows before you or any of his children say anything. Quieter than usual? He notices. Seems hurt? He notices. Nothing gets past Gaul.
He's structured but not harsh. Gaul values routine, discipline, and awareness. But he's not strict in a cold way. He sets expectations, saying things like, "You're capable of doing this properly. So do it properly." And, as mentioned, he only yells because he was very worried about something. Normally, no big overreaction but rather calm accountability.
He's noy overly cuddly in public but at home is a different story. He'll let his children lean against him, quietly pull them close if they are upset, ruffle their hair, and give hugs.
Toddlers are obsessed with the Felynes. Murray and co. become living stuffed animals and toys. Gaul monitors the situation constantly making sure tails aren't pulled and boundaries are respected. But he lets them interact—and the Furtive Five have to oblige. However, Murray and the others trust the children simply because Gaul is there. Doesn't mean they don't complain over pulled tails now and again.
He's not high-energy playful but he does engage in his own way. If his kid hands him a toy, he'll kind of study it because he isn't quite sure what to do at this stage. But he'll play along if his child continues to engage with him.
You once left him alone with the toddler—not worried one bit—Gaul simply looking over paperwork while promising to keep one eye on the kid. When you came back later, you found his spot at the table empty, and it seemed no work was done. Upon following the sound of a child laughing, you saw that Gaul was laying in the kid's room on his side, stacking up some wooden blocks while your child was squealing in delight. One hand clutching their father's hair while the other was ready to push over the small tower. Apparently even Gaul couldn't resist playing this game with the small child; and it seems he's done so for a while. When you entered the room, your child was so happy to see you, they raised their arms in the universal toddler 'up' signal. But in doing so, they yanked on Gaul's hair causing him to fall flat on his back and make eye contact with you. His flustered expression only got worse as you laughed.
Gaul is a very protective person in general when it comes to those he cares about. With a child, it only gets worse. Not in an overbearing way, but rather he seems to be ten steps ahead if something goes wrong. A toddler stumbles? He's already there before they hit the ground. It seems to be instinctual. And Gaul never panics. Just checks them over to make sure their fine before placing them back on their feet. If something actually threatens his children, any calm or stoic demeanor he has is gone and replaced by immediate action.
He gives quiet comfort. Not overwhelming with cuddles and kisses and such. Least not in public too often. He picks them up, holds them close, and lets them calm down if they're wailing over something. He's not the type to repeat, "you're okay, you're okay" endlessly. Gaul just simply handles it with presence alone.
You normally handle evenings since he sometimes comes back late from doing other side missions. But when he can do bedtimes, he does. Gaul will adjust blankets at night, remember tiny details, and stay within earshot if he's still doing things around the house. Sometimes he does a story, but normally that part is where you take over.
One of his favorite things is, when he comes back on Legia, you and his child are there to greet him. Gaul will hop of his monstie, get down on one knee, and allow the kid to run into his arms for a hug. When he was a young boy, he remembers doing the same to his father.
Will place his child on Legia's saddle and walk them around. He's a little paranoid to actually take flight with them until they are a little older. But will definitely give little monstie rides around the Ranger HQ yard.
Almost always—when walking around town with you or just him—he'll place his kid on his shoulders. They love being able to see the world from so high up. Also gives fun piggyback rides—but only shows that more playful side of himself around you.
Ogden tried to give him parenting advice, and it ended in a little squabble. Gaul really didn't need his help—and was still questioning how good of advice it could really be.
Sometimes the children come hang out at Ranger HQ. Thea loves to play with any children Gaul has when their young. And Gaul actually appreciates Thea using her boundless energy to get some chaotic energy out of his kids before they come home.
Is not a fan of dealing with sick children—but who is? He would rather you take care of it because, truthfully, he'll just worry. Gaul really doesn't like seeing his children sick or hurt. The best he can do is make some medicine, but he just hates feeling useless. He stays close though and doesn't leave.
With you, having children is a shared responsibility. Gaul doesn't take over, undermine you, or anything like that. He'll back your decisions, step in when needed, and adjust things based on your input. He also admires you in this motherly role, even if he doesn't say it often.
If you read my Dad!Simon Heacanons, I mentioned Simon trying to be intimidating and failing to do so to boys if he had a daughter. Gaul is the same way, but he IS intimidating. Tall, strong, has a stare that could kill—and he would use it on any boy that gets close to any of his little girls that he has.
I want to believe that if he had a son, Gaul would name him Lucas.
The shock he would have if it's twins, especially if neither one of you suspected him, might make him pass out. Gaul likes to be prepared and have order to things. That would catch him off guard. But by the next day, he would somehow magically have a pair of everything; one for each baby. The Furtive Five probably help him.
When they are born—twin girls or twin boys would make this extremely difficult—both of you struggle to tell them apart. However, as they grow, Gaul somehow gets better at it than you.
He can tell them apart instantly—no hesitation, no confusion, no guessing. Even when the identical twins are dressed the same, acting the same, or trying to trick people, he just looks at them and calmly says, "You're not fooling me".
And when someone—even you sometimes—asks how he can tell, he doesn't give some dramatic explanation. Gaul would say that their posture is different, the way they look at things isn't the same, one likes this while the other likes that, etc.
Murray and the rest of the Furtive Five have greatly prepared him for this. With his Felynes, Gaul already knows their differences down to scent, little changes in looks or personality, he knows how to handle each one and doesn't treat them as interchangeable. It's the same with his twins—he never lumps them together.
They are two completely separate individuals—he has different expectations based on personality, different ways of speaking to each child, and remembers small preferences effortlessly. One child might be more cautious while the other is more impulsive. Gaul adapts to both.
Gaul excels at individualized care. He doesn't compare them, favor one over the other, or expect them to be the same. Instead, he reinforces their individuality. His twins don't need to match each other. They are different and that is fine.
He has little to no patience for any twin shenanigans. If they try to trick him and swap places, his response is immediate. They are never getting away with it.
If the twins argue, he doesn't pick sides. Gaul breaks it done to what happened, why it happened, and what they should've done instead, saying something like, "You both handled that poorly. Fix it." He makes it fair and balanced while also teaching accountability.
For sure would rest around with a twin in each arm, especially when they are babies. He was probably like a big pillow to them.
Would probably still walk around with a twin toddler in each arm—maybe even playfully swinging them around a bit, they're laughter being music to his ears.
He is acutely aware of what each individual twin prefers. This one like this toy, this one only falls asleep if you do this, and so forth. Gaul is observant to a very high degree.
Okay, so a long while ago, I made two stories labeled as my "Slice of Life" AU where Simon and the reader were married and had two kids. I wrote them because in case Simon died, there would be a happy ending wonderland to go to where he survived and there was no war or journey or anything.
But now at this point, we know Simon survived, and his story, and so forth. This outcome makes the purpose of my stories kind of useless now, because since he lives, I can make so many other stories.
THIS TOOK ME WAY TO LONG TO DO AND I WROTE HALF OF IT SO LONG AGO
But I need closure, so instead of writing up a whole new story, here's how my little AU (written in second person but based on my OC and her monsties) will have ended based on Simon's true story:
You, Simon's wife and once member of the Rangers, heard from Prince Leo about your husband's death. Devastated and gut-wrenched were how you felt. You cried until there were no more tears, until you had to tell your children.
Cedar and Rowan understood this poorly. At their young ages, it was hard for them to process that their dad wasn't coming home.
You somehow managed to get another of Simon's jacket and kept it near you or on you at all times.
You decided to take your Rathian, Thia, and join Prince Leo, Eleanor, and the rest of the Rangers across the Meridian. You needed to learn more about your husband and gain closure. Could it be possible that he's lied about who he was to you all this time?
You left your children with Ogden's wife, Caretta—a very kind older woman—and join the prince on his journey.
Along the way, you meet the hunter Corbin and his Palico PK. The young man seems a little smitten with you, and it lightens your mood a little. However, it's not enough, and soon blows over.
And it only gets worse when you lose your beloved monstie in a battle with an invasive monster. Your Rathian, Thia, is gone.
Losing Simon and now losing Thia has left you in a very broken state of mind. It takes a lot of encouragement from the others for you to go out and find a new monstie. After many searches, you finally hatched a Soulseer Mizutsune—named Sisu.
Now leaving Sheparden and entering Galyad, a quiet afternoon leaves you reminiscing. You think of Simon, of Thia, of your children that you left behind, and just feel like running off. So, you do, without telling anyone.
Apparently, Murray had spotted you and informed Gaul. Said man flew out on Legia to come and get you as you sat on the edge of the crystallized Lao Shan Lung.
You were clutching Simon's jacket and looked weary from all your crying. Gaul felt like he was interrupting something intimate.
But he still sat with you, comforted you, and you held onto him and cried like you guys have been best friends for years. Gaul felt as though Kora would be able to offer you more understanding words, having gone through a similar loss, but you wouldn't let him go.
It was as if this small emotional moment had caused him to open up to you and be more exposed with his feelings. Gaul has trouble understanding why, but something changed within him that day unbeknownst to you.
He started to fall for you.
And it felt wrong because you were still in mourning. Because he knew he could never be Simon. Because you had two young children, and Gaul knew he could never replace their father. But that didn't stop his heart from beating faster when you were around.
As days went by, you got a little better and smiled a little more; thanking Gaul and the others for being so understanding and caring by your side. Everyone was glad to see you a bit better, and Gaul just got all flustered.
Eventually, you coaxed him into coming with you to get another monstie. He was happy to help, especially since you decided this on your own.
You hatched a Nargacuga—with an appearance of the dragon element—and named her Blackwind.
Eventually, the group got to Death's Maw, where they found the destroyed village and its inhabitants. As the older man told the story of the devastation, he mentioned a boy named Kris. The more he spoke—about his eyes, his age, and his personality—it all started to make sense. This Kris was your Simon. Everyone seemed to know this but said nothing.
Not until later after you all left. You hung back from the group, thinking more than walking. Gaul trailed behind with you to make sure you were okay, and you guys chatted a little.
Soon, you all had to fight a monster named Rey Dau in order to cross the desert and make it to Serathis—where the Sacrosanctum lay waiting.
After the fight with the lightning wyvern, you persuaded Gaul to once again come with you to find another monstie. Rey Dau left an impression on you, and you later hatched one and named her Tempest.
It was during your little side quests with Gaul that you found yourself growing closer to him—and dare you say a little attracted. He was filling the void Simon left in your heart, and you thought for a moment that maybe moving on was possible.
That all crashed after fighting Arkveld—where Simon revealed himself alive and well.
Of course, him and Prince Leo got into a squabble. And you learned your husband was an agent for Vermeil, responsible for teaching them how to battle bind monsters, and did indeed keep secrets from you all these years.
You felt a mix of emotions: anger that he's lied to you, sadness that your whole relationship and family might be a scam, and yet you still felt relief and love when you saw him, knowing he was okay.
But once his amber eyes landed on you, he seemed shocked. Now it was your turn to get a word in.
However, Simon had the audacity to get upset with you, wondering how you could leave your guys' two children back all alone in Azuria with no parents. That's when you snapped.
"Well, what about you, Simon?! How could you lie to us?! Lie to me?! When were you going to say something about who you really were?! After we had twelve kids?!"
"I didn't mean—"
"Was this all just some game to you?! Nothing of our relationship was real, was it? Just some ploy to keep you blended in with the rest of Azuria!"
"It's not like that! It is real! I love you and the children! I'm doing this to protect all of you!"
"Oh really?! Then—"
"Enough!"
Prince Leo had interrupted, making Simon's attention focus back on him. Eventually, the two got into an aerial battle with the Ratha twins—one battle bound, the other not. After Ratha V nearly incinerated the area with a devastating blast, Simon cast you a guilty glance before flying off.
You all then got word to return to Azuria, with you feeling broken and upset all over again.
Of course, you were very excited to see Cedar and Rowan again—who in turn were very happy to see you. You, however, kept them unaware of Simon, not wanting to complicate things at the moment. Instead, you distracted them by introducing your new monsties, who they played with in the stables.
Gaul checked up on you, wondering what you will do now. You felt torn and it wasn't just between Simon and Gaul. But more so about what you should do about Simon. If you didn't have children or were married, your decision might be easier. You told Gaul you needed a minute, went to the stables to fetch your Rey Dau, Tempest, and flew off into the evening Azurian sky towards Blightstone Woods.
As you were mulling over everything that happened, the sudden sound of a monster landing behind you caused your monstie to bristle. But as you turned around, you were surprised to see Simon.
Apparently, he had followed you all the way from Serathis.
"We need to talk."
"What if I don't want to talk?"
"Then please listen."
Simon explained absolutely everything to you. About traveling with Amara, about where he was from, about Aenshin, and even why he started working with Vermeil. He showed you his arm, which was covered in crystals. All this time you never knew he was sick, and it made you feel horrible. But it also made sense why he always wore a glove or a bandage on that arm. He told you he had a nasty scar he didn't want you to ever see and you didn't pry. But it all makes sense now. He explains that he never meant to fall in love or have a family or any of that. Simon was going to tell you when you got married, but then he chickened out. He was then going to tell you when you got pregnant, but then he didn't. Again and again, he couldn't bring himself to say anything and ruin your relationship. So, he tried to handle things on his own without burdening you or the children.
In all his explaining, you knew in your heart you couldn't be mad at him. You still loved him dearly, and hugged him out of the blue, which nearly startled him. Hugs, cuddles, and kisses ensued as your relationship rekindled like a phoenix from the ashes.
Simon admits how much he misses the kids, and if not for the situation, he would immediately go into town and see them. It's a rough situation.
You tell him what happened to Thia, your Rathian that he knew well, and he comforted you like he should've from the very beginning. He felt guilty as if he somehow caused that pain. Which in a way, he did. You had to add your grief for your monstie on top of your grief for him.
He notices that you are wearing a jacket of his, and feels a sense of pride, teasing you.
Seeing the battle bound Ratha V, you ask him how he could possibly accept a tactic that basically leaves a monster brain dead. Simon fumbles in explaining that he doesn't really agree to it but doesn't see another way. You drop the subject there, just happy to be in his arms again.
Reluctantly, as the sun comes up, he has to leave. You plead with him to stay, knowing the others would understand eventually and come around. But he doesn't and asks you before he leaves that you don't tell the others about his crystalisis. You oblige, and then he leaves.
You return back to the castle, and Gaul gives you this look like he knows who you just saw. It's hard to speak with him after that, given the flirtatious relationship you and him started to have before Simon returned. Gaul has to understand that with your husband alive, there is still feelings there, and they were rekindled. You felt a little guilty, but you knew Gaul would get over it at some point, even if he avoided you until he felt better.
A lot happens later. Peace talks, Aenshin, and then your Simon shows up again. You try to help him fight Aenshin, or whatever it was he was trying to do, but he yells at you to get as far away as possible. If anything happens, he wants his kids to still have their mother instead of losing both of their parents.
Aenshin attacks, Simon gets covered in those crystals, and you feel your heart ache at the thought of losing him again. Thankfully, Prince Leo and Ratha were able to intervene. After all was said and done, with King Arken taking a devastating hit, you all agreed to go to the Sacrosanctum once more.
You looked around for Simon, hoping in your heart that he would come around and join you all, but you didn't see him. But he was watching your group, and felt guilt once again settle in his heart when he saw your broken face.
At the Serathis, your group ran into PK and fought a battle bound Azure Rathalos. Later, you ran into Corbin and a battle bound Lunagaron. It would seem that the crystalized battle bound monsters were beginning to free themselves.
The shock you all felt when you realized that the Survey Field Captain was Amara, but she lost her memories. You couldn't feel more sympathy for Prince Leo, and you wondered if there would be anything that could be done to restore her memories.
Flash forward, Aenshin returned, an egg was found, and in the hands of your husband, Simon, who revealed his crystalisis to the others. He was ready to destroy the egg and kill whatever life was inside. He was angry and wanted revenge—and he had every right to feel that way.
But you and Prince Leo reached out to him.
You remind him of his children, when they were born and how small, fragile, and innocent they were. How he cried and how he swore to protect them with his life. How they couldn't do a thing for themselves and depended on the care of others around them. The life inside that egg was very similar. Innocent, unable to protect itself, and totally dependent on the others around it to not harm it.
After yours and Leo's words, Simon was silent with his back still towards all of you. After a while, he dropped the knife, and tears were falling down his face. Without a word, he mounted Ratha V and took off.
You immediately mounted Tempest to pursue him. The others didn't stop you. They understood, and no one else followed you. But Simon was fast, and for a moment, you lost track of him.
Then, out of the blue, you were attacked by a Feral Rajang. It leaped from the mist, crystals encasing its horns and making it look more demonic than usual. It's coloration, usually a dark brown, was now a blood red. You and your monsties would have to deal with the monster alone if you wanted to get to your husband.
After a tough battle, you slayed the Feral Rajang. Though, you'll probably have trauma for the rest of your life. After a bit more flying, you found Simon crying to himself, freely letting his emotions show.
Without saying anything, you landed nearby and walked over to him. Basically brain dead, Ratha V raised no fire or warning to your approach, and you sat right next to Simon and brought him into your arms. He curled into you like a child and cried while you stroked his hair and back. No words were needed; just comfort and loving touches.
After calming down, he told you he was going to pursue Aenshin and end this once and for all. For the sake of your life and the life of the children, he was going to slay the elder dragon. You begged to come with him, and he reluctantly accepted.
That's what reunited you with the rest of the Rangers and Eleanor. You and Simon, once again flying side by side, pursuing Aenshin. Prince Leo and Ratha quickly flew to join you both. During all this, an attack from the elder dragon sent you and Tempest to the ground. You heard Simon and Leo yell for you, but there wasn't much they could do. Thankfully, your Nargacuga leapt into the air and caught you before you hit the ground. And even more so, you didn't have the crystals on you. You reunited with your fellow Rangers and Eleanor but left the fight to Simon and Leo.
You didn't know what all happened up there, but when you saw them again, Ratha V was no longer battle bound. He was free, and you felt yourself smiling. Simon came around after all. Then all of you joined your powers together to set Aenshin free.
However, just as the elder dragon's life began to fade, the egg hatched. Aenshin got to see its baby before it finally died. As a mother yourself, the scene did bring you to tears. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw that Simon felt the same. He placed an arm around your shoulder and held you close. You could practically feel Gaul's eyes burning on both of you, and you knew you would have to talk to him.
But first, time skip back to Azuria. Leo and Eleanor were able to have their countries come to an accord. The Sacrosanctum became a protected area where baby Aenshin could grow up freely and safely. Things were moving in the right direction.
And even more so, Prince Leo put in a good word for Simon to King Arken, who allowed your husband to return to Azuria on your word that you would keep an eye on him. No problems there.
Him reuniting with Cedar and Rowan brought you to tears—and him—and the children. You told your children you had a surprise for them as you brought them to the stables. Cedar, the louder one, excitedly thought it was a new monstie, which made Rowan's eyes light up. However, instead of a monster, Simon stepped into view.
He got down on one knee and opened his arms wide with a big grin. Immediately both children escaped your grasp and jumped into his arms, tackling him to the ground. Rowan, being the youngest, began to tear up. Cedar did too. All this caused Simon to tear up, and then you finally joined. It was at this moment that you agreed to come with Simon and help rebuild his village—bringing the children with this time. It would become your new home together.
But before that, as Simon was cuddling and answering many questions from the children, you went to see Gaul. Over the course of the adventure, his feelings for you became clear. And truthfully, you started to feel something back. But at that time, you thought you lost your husband. Upon Simon's return, so did your love for him come back. And while you cared for Gaul, it was only as a friend. It couldn't be anything more.
You found him at the Ranger's HQ tending to some weapons, and as soon as you started to speak, he stopped you. Gaul stated that he understood what this was all about and would rather not talk about the subject at all. Everyone moves on in their own way, and he would rather sweep it under the rug. And he hopes that you understand if he finds it hard to be around you right now—you did. Time will heal Gaul's feelings, and you know he'll move on at some point, especially if you're leaving Azuria.
After all was said and done, Ratha V and Tempest (and the rest of your monsties) all packed and ready to go, you and Simon and the children mounted the monsties and took off towards your new start in life.
It would be rough in the beginning; having to rebuild and make a whole new home for yourself, especially for your young kids who would have to quickly adapt to new surroundings. But now you were all together with no secrets to break you apart. It was definitely the feeling of a happily ever after.
EPILOGUE MAYBE
The first few weeks in Simon's rebuilding village were a little rough. All of you had to share a small space for shelter, and little Rowan got sick with a cold. He was always the more vulnerable one when it came to him and his sister.
Usually every night, when you and Simon were trying to sleep, Rowan would come up to you both and state that he had a bad dream and wanted to sleep with you both. Of course, you let him.
Then a storm or two would roll in, Cedar would get scared, and then she would come and want to sleep with you both. It would end in one big family cuddle.
Cedar is more adventurous and would sometimes wander outside the edge of the village with some of the other children. Sometimes Rowan would follow her. The number of times you or Simon had to swoop in the protect them from a Tigrex or some other monster nearly made you guys pass out from stress. At this point, you send Sisu or Blackwind out with the children as a chaperone.
You guys would visit Galyad for festivals. The children were happy to see so many people and colors and activities. Sometimes you would run into Corbin or Ena, and you all would get to talking, leaving Simon out of the loop.
Cedar once came home excitedly with word that she saw a cool new monster. You played along, thinking nothing of it, until she described it as "a flaming red dragon with a fluffy mane". Concern washed over you, so you and Simon went to investigate.
Apparently, a Teostra had found his way into Tarkuan, dangerously close to the village.
The rest of the people were worried the village was going to be demolished again. But when you and Simon tracked down the elder dragon and observed him, the behavior was strange. He was agitated, sure, but only prowling along the edge of the region, near the ocean, where across the way was Serathis and the Sacrosanctum. It seemed the Teostra was bothered by something he couldn't fix himself—you and Simon went to find the cause.
The cause was worse than you thought. Apparently, with the battle bound monsters from 200 years ago occasionally being freed from crystal, it was only a matter of time before one found its way to the mainland.
And this time, it was a monster that looked very similar to the Teostra—except blue and it was battle bound.
A battle bound Lunastra.
You felt sympathy for the elder dragon, who was no doubt suffering. Battle binding an elder dragon was an ultimate sin—and it appears that the Teostra was trying to somehow free his mate. She was berserk, and you and Simon didn't quite know how to help her without slaying her, which would no doubt enrage the Teostra.
Eventually—and surprisingly—the male elder dragon seemed to fighting alongside you guys to help calm the Lunastra down—elder dragons seemed to have higher intelligence and emotions than you expected. Soon, she grew weary, and you and Simon were able to break the armor off before she got to her feet. Afterwards, you and Simon fled back a ways to give her space. She got to her feet, shook her mane, and was greeted warmly by her mate. You and Simon watched the interaction warmly, feeling strangely connected to the elder dragon pair.
Then you went home, and Simon was quick to write to Prince Leo—and inform him there is now a population of Lunastras and Teostras in Tarkuan—should he ever need a fiery new monstie by his side.
HOLY CRAP THIS TOOK ME SO LONG
I started putting this together in March OOP
Oh how badly do I want Lunastra in the game and even more so as a monstie😭 I'm just imagining a battle like Narwa and Ibushi but instead it's Teostra and Lunastra. I WOULDN'T COMPLAIN AT ALL
WE NEED MORE ELDER DRAGONS
Whelp, there's my spiel! Closure to my only two Slice of Life Fics
I just imagine before they get together, Ratha and Vee would be pushing the heir and Simon to "have an egg" cuz the two are so close the wyverns mistake them for mates lol
Like literally pushing them into each other whenever they're in close proximity
Ratha and Vee: where egg?
Simon/heir: 0////0
AHHH THANK YOU MY FRIEND❤️❤️
And this is such a funny and cute idea that the Ratha twins would be pushing Simon and the heir together! I fully headcanon what you say as truth!
This is even funnier to me when it's shown that both the heir and Simon can hear the voice of their respective Rathalos:
Ratha V (in that regal tone): Simon, why do you have no egg?
Simon (flustered to the point of fainting): *screeches*
You know what freak yeah, give me the Princess and Simon having little Simons and little princesses! They give the vibes that they’d want a bunch of mini-thems running around.
FOR SURE❤️this is such a cute thought I can't believe I haven't done some headcanons on this before (doing something very similar for Eleanor and kind of want to do one for Gaul)
Simon and His Mini Mes (AKA Simon as a Father Headcanons)

Picture it. The crystal encroachment has ended, Aenshin has been put to rest with its offspring free to grow in protected care, and life finally gets back to some semblance of normalcy.
You and Simon are married—finally. Everyone was waiting for this moment after Aenshin as dealt with and feelings were finally expressed.
Whether you go to stay with him in his village as it rebuilds or he agrees to stay with you in Azuria—and occasionally visit his village to help rebuild—is up to you guys.
Either way, the subject of children comes up pretty quickly.
Now that Simon is free from growing guilt and trauma and is finally free to be with the one he loves without secrets, the idea of a family excites him to the point where he feels embarrassed by how much he brings it up.
But you get just as excited. And you two talk about it all day with smiles and vigor—then nightfall comes, reality sets in, and nerves settle where excitement once was. This leads to more talking and reassuring one another until the time comes where you both feel absolutely ready and certain.
Simon is very supportive during your pregnancy(s). Is just the right amount of coddling that you need to get through such an ordeal, but also you both share a sense of humor through the whole thing.
Birth(s) are another story. He is a stressed mess, and it shows through his actions: nearly pulling his hair out, shaky breathes, tears, squeezing your hand just as much as you are to his. By the end, he gets such a headache from it all that you think he's in more pain than you are.
But worth it, especially when you see the way he looks at every newborn you guys have.
Yes, both of you would definitely want more than one kid. Little princesses and Simons running all around your home.
Simon is the "gentle and always present" type of dad. He is always physically or emotionally available and makes the time to do so no matter what. If his kid asks him to stay with them for whatever reason, he stays.
He'll constantly sit with them, listen to their stories—even if they don't make any sense—and let them cling to him without hesitation. Simon secretly loves it when any of his children get scared and want to come sleep with him and you at night. He doesn't like that they're scared, but more so that they view you and him as a place of comfort and safety.
Loves the cuddles. Hugs and kisses all around.
Simon is soft yes, but not a pushover. He'll ruffle their hair, give forehead kisses, and kneel down to give them tight hugs. However, he does set some boundaries. Just in a gentle way. He can be strict when it comes to their safety but never yells at them for anything.
It was hard for you and him to become responsible in this way—understanding immediately that parenting was not all fun and games. Simon has had such a hard childhood himself, so you don't mind being bad cop now and again just so he can be more playful with them.
Hates watching his children grow up. He wants them to remain small forever, hug onto his legs, and follow him around with an excited gleam in their eyes.
Introduces his children to monsties at a slow pace to keep them safe. He always emphasizes the importance of trust and respect instead of fear. It would break Simon's heart if any of his children grew fearful around monsties.
You, on the other hand, don't hesitate to throw your children up in the saddle and take them for a ride. You trust Ratha and your other monsties with your life—so you know they feel the same about protecting your children. Your safe while doing so mind you. Simon is just overly cautious when it comes to monstie rides—having fallen once himself.
Simon is overprotective in quiet ways. He mostly gives the kids freedom to be menaces, but he's always got his eyes on them. He will suddenly step in the moment before something could go wrong. He'll stand a little closer if out in the field, have them in his arms or a hand on their shoulder, and he checks in on them if things ever get too quiet. You know he's always watching out for them and would gladly give his life—just like he would have for you.
Ratha and Ratha V become terrifying babysitters. The blessing of yours and Simon's strong bonds with the Ratha twins means you can trust them both to look out for your children as well. In fact, their first ever monstie rides is definitely on the backs of those Rathalos.
Simon nearly lost everything in his life. His village, Amara, he's got a chronic illness, he thought he lost Ratha V, and he thought he lost you. Life got pretty dark and lonely for him.
So now, he treasures every single little moment.
Simon gets emotional at all the little things: first words, first steps, first time he gets called "dad". You've seen tears in his eyes, and he isn't afraid to admit that.
He struggles teaching independence. As was stated prior, he hates the thought of his children growing older. Of course, Simon wants his children to be strong and capable. But letting them take risks is very hard for him. He'll encourage them but then watch their every step. You'll probably need to help encourage him to let go a bit.
Co-parenting with you is probably the most enjoyment he's had in his life. A whole new adventure with his best friend and lover. Both of you share the responsibility, even if you need to be the one who is a little more composed since Simon can get kind of emotional.
Simon is the type of dad his children go to when they're scared, made a mistake, or are afraid of being judged. He'll sit with them at night, talk things through calmly with them, and never make them feel small.
If any of his children want to be riders, he'll be proud, nervous, and emotional all at once. But overall, he'll be supportive.
Simon really makes his children feel safe. He makes them feel safe to fail, safe to cry, safe to be themselves. Not just safe from the monsters, but from everything else as well.
He can be fun, humorous, and overdramatic as well. Storytime with him can get out of hand, especially if he's telling any stories that involve his and your adventures. Will pick up his children and spin them around in a big hug. Gets dramatic and acts all old when his picks them up. Loves to play with them no matter the game.
Dreads the thought of any of his daughters getting married. Will scare off the boys for sure. Though, he isn't as intimidating as he likes to think. So, he usually has Ratha V scare them off, which you scold him for later.
ALSO, everyone in Azuria thinks your children are adorable. Even your father, though he won't admit that outright. The Rangers become aunts and uncles because everyone is still one big family.
AND, everyone in Simon's village coos over the children. They are adored there. And people in the village can't help but see their 'Kris' in the eyes of your children.
Bonus points if every son you have with Simon looks just like this:
omg I absolutely loved the arranged marriage Simon fic 🥹❤️ perhaps can we have a part 2 of Simon finally telling the princess what he was going to say at the end?
Thank you Anon! For sure a Part 2! I was planning on it after learning Simon's true story XD
Part 1! Arranged Marriage? I Think Not
Arranged Marriage? I Think Not (Part 2)
Sleepless nights of tossing and turning have left you a restless mess. However, it wasn't due to your future marriage to Simon, but rather because you noticed a change in his behavior. He has something he's been keeping from you. A secret he's been harboring—and why he might not be able to marry you after all.
Simon x F! Reader
It's been a few weeks since news of your shocking engagement swept through Azuria. Since you stood in that room before your potential suitors, who stared at you with hopeful eyes, and then you chose your best friend Simon to be your future husband. And he accepted, which filled you with relief.
Yet, you've hardly been getting any sleep since that day. Each night filled you with dread as you tossed and turned, woke up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, before taking hours to fall asleep again.
And you knew the reason.
Simon was acting very strange.
That day you chose him; he seemed just as thrilled as you. Just as relieved as you. Just as in love as you. Simon was smiling and laughing and holding you. But then that evening came, and Simon appeared worried and fearful. He said he had something he needed to tell you, but after that night, he never brought it up again—and you didn't pry, but the stress of not knowing was eating at your core.
Day by day, he grew more distant. Simon didn't smile as much. He half listened when the Rangers met and discussed the day's tasks; most of the time he seemed very deep in thought. You would try to talk to him; to rekindle the romantic spark you had found with your best friend, but he would come up with some excuse to leave the conversation.
Overall, he seemed very distant, especially with you. And it worried you deeply.
"Hey captain!" Thea's upbeat voice did little to perk you up when you dragged your feet into the Ranger's headquarters.
You just got back from a meeting with your father—who had no choice now but to begrudgingly accept your engagement to Simon—and it didn't go very well. King Arken and his council wanted to discuss the wedding with both you AND Simon—the latter didn't even show up.
So, that wasn't a good start to this future marriage.
"Hey Thea," your voice was barely a whisper as you slumped in a nearby chair, eyes downcast as you absentmindedly began to look over random papers spewed about the table.
She frowned at your sad response as did the woman beside her.
"Take it things didn't go well?" Kora crossed her arms and you a sympathetic glance. Rudy, who had been present during the meeting, gently patted your leg.
"Simon didn't even show up. The king wasn't pleased—even more so than when this engagement started," Rudy explained with a frown and twitch of his tail.
Your frown deepened.
"Simon didn't show up? His behavior is starting to get on my nerves..." Gaul grumbled from his spot in the corner, arms crossed and eyes narrowed; protective instincts kicking in as he saw how depressed you were.
It was Ogden who stood for Simon.
"Hey now! Don't be too hard on the boy. Gettin' married is stressful enough as it is without all the political drama. He's probably just tryin' to process it all," the older and more experienced man explained from his place at the table, feet still propped up as he leaned back in his chair.
"Yeah," Thea chimed in, "everyone deals with stress in different ways. Perhaps Simon just needs some alone time to think."
You simply nodded. But you knew deep down that there was more to it.
"Where is he?" You mumbled, scanning around the room littered with books, papers, and empty jars. Everyone kind of shrugged before Kora spoke up.
"You should know where he is, Princess Y/N."
That's what led to you flying over the lush grasslands of Azuria on Ratha. Below you became a painted green, monsters dotted here and there amongst the trees. You flew over Broadleaf Basin, tracing the path of the loop, until a large golden-leafed tree came into view—along with the striking blue hide of a certain Legiana.
You guided Ratha to land a healthy distance away from the tree. The Rathalos' large wingbeats created gusts that tickled the grasses beneath his talons. Once grounded, you hopped off him and gave him a pat on the nose. Then he moseyed over to Fawn and gave the Legiana a friendly nudge with his head.
While the two flying wyverns seemed at ease, your heart was pounding in your chest as you approached Simon.
He had his back to you. His fingers gently brushed the bark of the tree where years of tally marks have been carved into it. Simon must've been rather deep in thought because when you said his name, he jumped.
"Sorry," you meekly said while rubbing your arm.
"It's fine," Simon mumbled with a lighthearted smile that didn't quite reach his eyes, "I should've known you'd come looking for me eventually."
Silence passed by broken only by the occasional breeze through the leaves. Both of you shuffled awkwardly on your feet; the intimacy and young love you had when this all started seemed to have fizzled into fear and worry—least on his side.
"Simon, what's going on? You've been avoiding me, avoiding the wedding topic, and acting like you don't really seem to care anymore—"
"I do care!" He cut in rather sharply. You sighed.
"A while ago you said you had something to tell me...what was that?"
Your soft voice carried like petals on the breeze; uncertainty laced with hesitance about whether or not you wanted to find answers to Simon's behavior. However, as soon as you brought it up, he immediately looked nervous and terrified all over again.
"Simon?" You were worried now and stepped closer to him.
His hands bawled to fists at his sides and he squeezed his eyes shut. He clenched his jaw as slightly turned away from you, breath shaky as he tried to control his overwhelming emotions.
"That's...," he finally found his voice, ever so small and vulnerable, "that's...not my real name."
Time froze for you. Your heart hammered in your chest.
"What?" You managed to squeak, voice barley above a whisper. You wanted to ask if he was messing with you, but the look on his face and all the emotion he was showing told you otherwise.
"I-I'm from a village across the Meridian," Simon started to shake, "your mother was the one I traveled with, a-and—she—," tears started to fall now, gliding gently down his cheeks.
Your heart dropped in your chest. Simon then shook his head as if to clear his thoughts, and kept going.
"I'm a spy for Vermeil," he sniffled, "I told them how to battle bind monsters," more tears, "a-and they have the other Rathalos because of me. They wanted me to get close to you...so...you would..."
At this point, his teary eyes glanced over to Ratha. You followed his gaze, feeling sicker by the minute. Your Rathalos was snoozing in the sun as Fawn gently preened and nipped at his scales as a form of socialization. Did Vermeil plan to use Simon to get close to you in order to enhance Ratha somehow? If so, for what reason?
Your brain was struggling to process everything you just heard from Simon. Or whoever he really was.
This great golden tree is where you first stumbled upon him nearly ten years ago. He was alone, seemed scared, and had a bandage over his left arm. Over the years, you guys grew to best friends, and now you were supposed to be getting married.
"Was this...all just a game? Getting close to me?" You wanted to be angry, but your voice sounded broken.
"N-No! I—"
"What was it then?"
Simon sniffled again and looked down at his hands. He moved to clutch his left wrist and murmured, "I had no other choice but to agree to work with Vermeil."
He then removed his glove and you gasped.
A pale and sickly coloration coated his hand and went up his arm. Small bits of crystal, similar to those of the encroachment, jutted out here and there. It looked painful.
"I...what...is that?" You were at a loss for words.
"It's a disease that came about from the crystallization. Once you get it, there's no coming back. It's chronic...," Simon slowly put his glove back on, hiding the illness from your view as if he were ashamed.
"Simon...you've been sick this whole time?" You asked and he nodded. Sympathy overcame any bitter emotions you felt.
"Vermeil told me they would work on a cure if I helped them, but they promised they wouldn't hurt you. I didn't think that much on it. Perhaps I was selfish, wanting to help myself and the others I knew who were affected, but then I got to know you—and things changed," Simon wiped the tears from his face, trying to compose and explain himself at the same time.
He thought you would be angry and yelling at him. Telling him to get lost or something. But you still held a kindness in your eyes, even if it was overshadowed by betrayal.
"I never expected to grow such close feelings towards you—it was a hiccup in Vermeil's plans for sure. They grew unhappy with me—started to view me as expendable and turned back on our promise—but I didn't really care at that point. All I could think about was keeping you safe...and I still feel that way now," Simon played with his hands a little, avoiding your gaze, which felt like it was boring into his soul.
"It's still me, Y/N. My personality, my feelings, none of that was a lie. But...you have to understand now why I can't marry you. It wouldn't be fair after everything you know now," he finally dared to meet your eyes, and once again saw the kindness he did when he first met you in this very place.
"You didn't want to cause any trouble though, did you?" You asked, surprising him slightly.
"No! I only ever wanted to help others—and keep you safe—I always felt guilty for keeping this from you," Simon explained, eyes downcast as his heart ached slightly. When he looked up again, he saw you smiling.
"Then there's no trouble at all," you told him lightly.
"You would forgive me so easily for this?" Simon widened his eyes in shock.
"Yes. You may have kept secrets from me, but you were honest now. And I don't doubt your feelings—I can see how sincere you are, Simon," you looked a little embarrassed; cheeks flushed as you glanced over and avoided his gaze.
His shock soon turned into a smile.
"Your heart truly is as beautiful as you, Princess Y/N," Simon's loving smile then turned into a frown, "even so, I am not fit to be Azuria's king. I'm sorry...but I can't be your husband."
Silence stretched for a bit, and then you said something he wasn't expecting.
"Let's runaway together. Across the Meridian."
His eyes widened. His heart sped up; whether it was from excitement or nerves, he didn't know. What you suggested sounded too good to be true; like a fairytale ending.
"What? Are...are you being serious?" Simon inquired, still in shock.
"I'm not fit to be Azuria's queen. I don't think I ever was nor do I want to be. Being laced in gold and sitting on a throne just doesn't feel right to me. And my father forcing an arranged marriage on me pushed me over the edge. But it led us to be together, and I still want you, Simon, even after everything you just told me," you said and your explanation brought joy to his heart.
"But leave the kingdom? Leave the Rangers?" He inquired, thinking about the others. You looked a little guilty at that.
"They'll all be fine. Rudy is still there, and Gaul can take over. I still want to marry you, if you'll still have me," you shyly gazed at him, playing with your hands as your fingers gently brushed over your kinship stone.
Simon grinned with glee.
"I absolutely do," he marched over and wrapped you in a tight hug, "being together is all that matters to me anymore."
You hugged him back tightly, so much so that you could feel his heart beating against your cheek, which was pressed against his chest. Simon nuzzled his nose into your hair and rubbed your back in a soothing and loving gesture. All the stress and worry he's been feeling for weeks finally melted away as he held you in his arms once more.
"Let's leave now," you whispered, eyes half lidded as a warm breeze swept between you both. This caused your hair to blow around and tickle your skin.
"Yes, let's," Simon pulled away from the hug and started digging around in his pouch before pulling out a piece of folded paper with a triumphant grin, "I got a map to lead the way."
You shared his joyful smile and dug around in your own pouches before pulling out a small brown bag that held a metallic jingle, saying, "And I've got some money."
Ratha yawned and stretched his wings as he got to his feet. Fawn shook herself before joining the Rathalos in stepping up towards the both of you. Your monsties looked at you and Simon expectantly, like they were ready and waiting to begin this next chapter of life.
"A better life is waiting for us beyond that horizon," Simon gazed out towards the trees.
You nodded before getting a look in your eyes that told Simon you just thought of something. He watched you as you fished out your journal and ripped out a blank piece of paper. You jogged lightly over to the large golden tree before using the trunk as a table and began to scribble something on the piece of paper.
"What are you doing?" Simon asked with a tilt of his head.
"I just can't leave without saying some sort of goodbye," you explained before finishing the writing with a flourish. Then you took out a knife and stabbed the note to the tree.
Simon came over beside you and scanned over the words. You mentioned nothing about where you were going or the truth about him. Just that you and Simon had enough of these political games and had to start being loyal to your hearts. A little bit about taking care of the Rangers and Azuria and whatnot before you mentioned each Ranger's name and Rudy's personally with a thank you and a goodbye. You even signed his name too.
He smiled.
Then Simon placed an arm around your shoulders as you guys gazed upon that large and beautiful tree. It was here that fate brought the two of you together, and it was here now that the next chapter of your lives was beginning. He felt your arm snake its way around his slender waist, which just caused him to pull you closer.
"Our disappearance will surely cause a scandal throughout Azuria," he chuckled a little at the thought even though it worried him a bit, "but it'll be nice to have a future with you that doesn't involve the pressures of politics and the threat of war."
"The encroachment will still be there," you shivered a bit, "but who knows, maybe you and I will find a way to stop it out there. Together."
"Yeah," he agreed with a nod, even though he didn't feel as hopeful as you sounded.
"But we'll be free! You and me. No kingdom. No titles. Just you as my husband. We could find someplace cozy to live. We could even start a family!" Your somber yet hopeful mood turned gleeful as you started listing off all these things, clearly having put more thought into it than he would have imagined.
"Yeah, I'll take good care of you," he chuckled with a nod, even if he felt flustered by your words. Hearing you say all those things you wanted with him just made him love you more.
But you could only stay gazing at his tree for so long.
Giving it one last glance, you gently tugged at Simon to make him look at you. Once he did, you went on your tiptoes to give him a tender kiss on the lips. He returned it eagerly once he gained his composure. It's been a while since you two shared a kiss like this. Actually, this was only your second time as the first one was when he agreed to marry you weeks ago. You still tasted just as sweet now as you did then.
Afterwards, you guys mounted your respective monsties, and Simon led the way towards the Meridian.
"Goodbye Azuria," you said wistfully as you gazed back towards the castle you've called home for so long. It was growing smaller and smaller as Ratha flew onwards, tailing behind Fawn.
"The king will surely lose his mind once he finds out about this," Simon mentioned with a shake of his head before glancing down at the map again.
"I hope they don't send anyone after us," you groaned with a frown. Knowing your father, the entire guard will end up searching for you. But one could hope that he would just let you go.
"They won't know where we are. Don't worry, Y/N. I'm not letting anything separate us," Simon glanced back at you, his amber eyes full of promise and a courageous grin on his face.
You returned the smile.
Your hair whipped wildly in the breeze, and your lips were slightly parted as you glanced around. You were a beacon of beauty and hope to Simon, and anytime he worried or fumbled, all he had to do was look at your face.
The two of you make for the Meridian. For the new chapter of life that you and he might not have found if it hadn't been for an arranged marriage.
Perhaps fate really is a thing after all.
Later...
"I never should've allowed that boy to stay in Azuria. Now he has kidnapped my daughter."
The king was beyond furious when the note was brought to his attention, having been found by Murray while he and the other Palicos of the Furtive Five went out searching for you.
"What should we do sir?" A guard asked as he and a few others have been rounded up.
"Get the Rangers. I want them to track down my daughter and bring her home," King Arken ordered.
Once this was brought to the attention of Gaul and the others, they felt conflicted. Sides started to be chosen. Gaul wanted to go and find you, while Ogden and Thea supported your decision to leave. Kora was the last stone to be cast. She wanted you to be happy, but she was unsure if running away was the right answer.
As they stressed themselves out over this sudden discovery of your disappearance with Simon, you've been in bliss. Unaware that your worst fears may come true if the Rangers decide to try and pursue you.
Until then, all you can do is leave it to the winds of fate and live a happy and honest life with Simon—who no longer keeps any secrets from you.

A request based on your last fic, could you do a fic were FMC has to marry one of the suitors picked by the King and one of them is Gaul bc he is a knight ( i think ) and simon is incredibly jealous
Please
If you see this request it will make my day
Ahhh something like that, his father (Lord Vargas), was the head rider of Azuria I think. So, Gaul was going to join the fleet, but then the incident happened, but then the king summoned him back. Something along those lines XD so yeah, I think he's nobility to a point. And I love me this love triangle. I love both Gaul and Simon, so this was a treat to write.
So, the fic referred is this one Arranged Marriage? I Think Not (Part 2 coming) and this is a different outcome
Bound By Duty, Torn By Him
As a princess, you have a duty to your people. But as a person, you also have a duty to yourself. King Arken sets you up in an arranged marriage—but not to some Vermeil politician or stuck-up nobleman—but to your lieutenant, Gaul. Your heart is numb from this. Because Simon looks beyond broken at the news—and makes a decision you didn't see coming.
Simon x F! Reader
Slight Gaul x F! Reader
There were times when you felt less like a daughter—less like a princess—and more like a chess piece. You understood your duty to the kingdom, and the certain roles and politics that you had to play by.
But an arranged marriage? Seriously?
As soon as your father said the word "marriage", you bolted out of the throne room. Guards and council members shouted after you, but you ignored them. King Arken advised them to let you go and cool off. He stated it so matter-of-factly because he knew you had no say in the matter. That you could storm off and come back because nothing would change.
SPLASH!
Another rock skipped miserably into the clear surface of Mirror Lake. It left rings on the water, fish scattered, and droplets flicked into the warm air.
"The audacity...the gall...do my feelings ever matter?" Your tone grew more bitter as you picked up another rock to toss into the lake. Ratha yawned at your words before resting his head back down on the warm stones.
You glanced at him before skipping the rock into the lake.
"Yeah, of course it doesn't really affect you," you couldn't help but smile fondly at your Rathalos who was unbothered by your overall behavior. Your smile slowly left your face, and you sighed through your nose, muttering, "...sometimes I just wish I was never born."
"Don't say that."
You nearly jumped out of your skin at the sudden appearance of Fawn. Her gorgeous icy wings beat steadily as her rider jumped from her back and onto the ground beside you. She then took off back towards the castle with a shrill screech until she was called again.
Simon tossed his head back to get his hair out of his face before lowering his goggles off his face. He sent you a grin, saying, "My life would've turned out way differently if you hadn't been around."
You smiled a little in spite of what your heart was actually feeling.
"Hi Simon," you brushed some hair over your shoulder, "what are you doing here?"
"Looking for you," he glanced at the shoreline before looking back up at the castle of Azuria, "course I didn't have to look too far."
You hummed to acknowledge that you heard him before staring longingly at the mountains that stretched behind his figure. Beyond them was ever approaching crystal encroachment, and then Vermeil...oh no...
Your father wouldn't have you marry some old politic geezer from there would he?
"Hey, hey!" Simon's hand was waving in your face, and you blinked back to reality. There was concern in your friend's amber eyes as he gazed at you.
"W-What? Sorry, I spaced out," you apologized, fumbling with the frayed edges of the fabric part of your armor.
"I noticed," Simon chuckled, placing his hands on his hips. But then his face turned serious, lips in a tight frown as his brow creased with worry.
"You seemed scared. Is everything okay?"
It was those words that you made you spill everything. About the arranged marriage, about how you were feeling about it, about everything that occurred in the last 24 hours. You were angry, scared, and overall felt trapped. Like a piece of baited meat, waiting for the predators to be lured in.
"I'm sorry that this is all happening. I wish...there was something I could do about it," Simon scuffed the rocks with his boot, an unreadable look on his face.
"Can I get a hug?"
He wasted no time in bringing you in his arms. You were a tad shorter than him, so you fit comfortably against Simon's chest. His Ranger's jacket smelled of pine and the iciness of a Legiana. You squeezed him tightly, trying to get some form of grounded comfort from him. Simon squeezed you back in return, resting his chin on your head and sighing.
He hated that you felt so trapped. If he were braver, he would march right up to the king and say the words that have been trapped behind his cowardly tongue for far too long. Then he would take you in his arms and hold you close, but—
—but right now, he had to tell you that you both should probably head back.
And the look you gave him...was heartbreaking. Like he was the only one protecting you from your fate, and so long as you stayed in here in his arms, there would be no forced wedding. Your gaze was begging, pleading—but the decision wasn't up to him, or you knew he would stop it.
So, back to the castle you went.
Once at the Ranger's base, everyone seemingly avoided your gaze, and all was quiet. It seemed word of the arranged marriage traveled through the grapevine quickly. All you wanted was to come back and have the Rangers bring you some sense of normalcy.
But Kora's somber gaze, Rudy's unnatural silence, and Gaul's absence were all reminders that your life was going to be changing drastically—wait, where was Gaul?
Just as you were about to ask about the whereabouts of your lieutenant, Murray descended from seemingly nowhere.
"Your highness," Murray offered a bow, "his Majesty has requested for you in the throne room."
A pit formed in your stomach.
"Here we go again," you muttered nervously while clenching your fists at your sides. A hand squeezed your shoulder, and you glanced to see Simon giving you a reassuring smile. He nodded at you, offering silent courage.
So, with shaky steps, you made your way to your dreaded destination.
To your surprise, Gaul was there too, standing off to the side with his hands behind his back. You met his sharp gaze, but he didn't offer you a smile or anything. Just a nod and an unreadable expression.
You had questions—and you didn't know if you wanted answers.
"Father," you bowed politely to the king, "you asked to see me."
"Yes, I have news regarding your marriage," at this point, he waved Gaul over. The man took a few brisk strides over before standing shoulder to shoulder with you.
While your stomach dropped and blood boiled at those words, you were more confused than anything else. It has been less than 24 hours since you were informed of your arranged marriage. What news could your father possibly have?
Was he changing his mind? You doubt it.
Did he pick you a suitor from Vermeil? It would be one way to make peace, you suppose.
And if not from Vermeil, then who? Would you be allowed to pick? Perhaps that's why you were here, so he could inform you of your choices.
But then why was Gaul here? The thought occurred to you that when you got married, King Arken would have you step down as captain of the Rangers to properly lead Azuria. Perhaps Gaul was here to know he would be stepping up.
"News? What kind of news?" You spared a glance at Gaul, but the man's gaze stayed firmly on the king.
"I did have a number of suitors available for you to choose from, but in light of your recent attitude towards this topic—and that time is not of the essence—I have chosen someone for you," the king's tone told you that any form of arguing would be futile.
Your heart shattered, with pieces digging into your chest, making it ache and tighten as a wave of anxiety came over you.
"W-Who?" You hated how your voice, once ready to fight, now sounded so small and afraid.
"He's standing right next to you," your father's stoic eyes flickered to your lieutenant.
You felt like time stopped or that you were in some dream state because this couldn't be real. Sweat started to form on your palms, nerves igniting, and you dared to spare a glance at Gaul. His golden eyes were already on you, but his face still held little to no emotion, like he already knew about this and accepted it.
"Gaul?" His name slipped past your lips, and you didn't know if you wanted an explanation from the man in question or if you wanted to make sure you understood your father correctly.
The latter happened.
"His father was a full-fledged rider and protector of Azuria—I know he'll fill that position well. Sir Gaul will make a fine husband—and a fine father," your father explained it all while going back to sit on his throne. Like he didn't just take your whole world and juggle it in his hands.
"I—but—Father, I—I can't marry Gaul!" Your heart acted before your brain did as you spoke before the king.
"You will," he responded matter-of-factly. Face neutral and stoic.
"But he's just my friend! I don't love him in that way!" You protested once more, and Gaul remained silent apart from making a slightly offended face at how defiant you were to not marry him.
"Know your place, daughter. You can't always have such luxuries. The word of this wedding has already been sent out."
It was those words that truly sealed your fate.
Everyone would know by now. Azuria wasn't that big of a country. Word spreads fast, especially in and around the castle. Soon it would reach the ears of the Rangers...and Simon. Your chest tightened at the thought of him not hearing this from you.
"Hey," Gaul's voice cut through your thoughts, and you glanced over to see him offering an arm to you in a respectful manner, "let's go."
You begrudgingly looped your arm through his, and then tightened your grip.
Time to discuss this with Gaul—and he wasn't going to slink away from you.
"Did you know about this?" You whispered angrily at him as the two of you leaved the throne room together. Gaul simply nodded. You were appalled.
"And you have no problem with it? At all?" You prodded at him. Gaul sighed through his nose and looked towards the windows that lined the halls instead.
"This is a direct order from His Majesty. Our feelings on the matter are null," Gaul spoke with the reverence of a knight simply doing what he's told. Exactly what your father wanted.
"But don't you want to marry someone you love? You have to feel something about this," your tone was growing exasperated because you know it was a losing battle.
"Y/N, we just have to make the best of this situation."
And that was it. That was all you got out of him on the matter.
As you both walked out and into the front gardens, guards giving graceful bows, you felt the chill of evening air hit your face. You didn't realize how hot your skin was until stepping outside. Your arm was still linked through Gaul's, and you spared another glance in his direction. His eyes seemed distant—despite all the chivalrous words he said to you earlier, about "following orders" and the like—he seemed to be internally struggling with this whole marriage thing too.
You shouldn't take your ill feelings out on Gaul.
He wasn't a bad guy in the slightest. He was hardworking, loyal, and never once did he do something for the gain of power. You trusted him immensely, and you are aware of all the time and effort he puts into every day for the good of the kingdom. And by society's standards, he was a handsome man.
But that didn't matter that much to you.
It was a bonus, sure, but you cared more about if his personality would mesh with yours. Could you guys have fun together? Would he be able to lower his guard and treat you like a close companion instead of a princess or his captain? Could he show you affection? Be romantic? You were uncertain of this. After all, Gaul wasn't someone you were super close to or grew up with. Someone like—
—someone like Simon.
Your face heated up again just thinking about your best friend. Of all the times you guys explored the forest together, trained together, joked around and had fun, and then the closer moments...
"Sir Gaul will make a fine husband—and a fine father."
You recalled your father's earlier words and your stomach coiled. Gaul would make a fine husband—he was dependable, loyal, and rather thoughtful. However, the thought of having children with him nearly made you throw up. Not because of Gaul personally, but it felt way too early in your life to even consider that. Of course, King Arken would mention it—the royal bloodline of Azuria must continue.
But was that the only reason?
You peeked over hesitantly at Gaul. The subtle golden hues of the setting sun hit his face, outlining his sharp features. It made his white hair practically shine and his golden eyes glow like that of a wyvern. In every way, he would be considered a catch.
Just...not to you.
That's when your mind went back to Simon. The way the breeze would cause his hair to go all in his face, making you laugh. The way his eyes would sparkle before he did something mischievous like pushing you into the lake. The way he would laugh after pulling said prank before you pulled him in with you. The way his face would soften when looking at you—when he thought you didn't notice.
It made your heart twist painfully in your chest when you realized.
You wanted Simon. Not Gaul.
You were brought back to reality when you felt Gaul pull his arm away from you, and you looked to see that the stables and Ranger's base were in view. It made all the negative emotions start to come back. Because, at this point, they all surely knew of the engagement.
"Nothing has to change between us you know. We're still Rangers, and your still my captain," Gaul explained as if sensing your discomfort.
"For now," you thought. However, you just nodded at his words. He returned the nod, and the two of you made your way into base side by side.
As expected, all eyes were on you. And rather unreadable.
Kora appeared to be sympathetic, having watched your mother go through a similar situation. Ogden kept his mouth shut. For once, having no words of wisdom to bring light to the situation. Rudy was even quiet. You couldn't even spare a glance at Simon. But from the corner of your eye, you saw him sitting in a chair with his arms crossed over his chest. It was Thea who broke the awkward silence with a cheerful grin.
"Some Felynes brought us the news. The two of you really gettin' married?" She asked innocently, Pookie cradled in her arms.
"Yes," Gaul simply answered before moving over to his own little corner of the base, rummaging through stacks of paper like nothing happened.
"You okay?" It was Kora who came over and nudged you slightly. You nodded numbly, still unable to look at your best friend, who had yet to utter a word.
"Aww, that's so cute! The captain and her lieutenant—it's like something out of a fairytale," the pink-haired girl cooed, clearly not reading the room.
"Thea...let's tone it down a notch," Kora advised the young Ranger with a stern look, having seen Simon tense up out of the corner of her eye.
"The two of you work well together in the field," Ogden felt the need to chime in, "married life should work out just fine for you as well."
"Yeah...," you murmured to no one really, eyes downcast.
SLAM
All eyes turned to Simon. Or rather, Simon's back as he marched away.
He had briskly stood up and slammed the table before storming off without a word.
Gaul, Thea, and Ogden watched in confusion. Not understanding why the young man, normally so composed, would have an outburst like this. However, you and Kora could sense the growing tension that radiated from Simon. Kora more so. Because she saw his reaction as soon as a Felyne spoke the news.
"Sir Gaul and Princess Y/N are engaged to be married! The kingdom's future is in safe paws!"
The way Simon shut down upon hearing that. His amber eyes were full on so many emotions Kora could hardly keep track of them. Sadness. Anger. Confusion. Jealousy.
She placed a gentle hand on your shoulder as you watched Simon leave and whispered, "go after him."
So, you did.
Simon didn't go far, so it was easy to go after him. You saw him slip out of the Ranger's lodgings with a bag slung over his shoulder as he walked into the stables. That's where you caught him adjusting Fawn's saddle.
"Simon...are you okay?"
You knew it was a dumb question to ask as soon as you said it.
He paused in messing with his monstie's equipment. You swore you heard him sniffle slightly, but he wouldn't turn to face you. But he did shake his head at your question.
"Look...this engagement to Gaul wasn't my idea...my father—he made—"
"I know."
Simon cut you off with those words. They weren't full of malice or anger or anything of the sort. And soon, Simon did slowly turn to face you. The lanterns of the stables glowed on his soft features, showing the dampness in his eyes where no doubt some tears were being held. He was taking the news of your engagement harder than even you were.
"Simon...," it was then that you took closer notice of the bag he packed and how prepared he seemed, "what are you doing?"
A couple seconds of silence passed.
"Leaving."
No. You must have heard him wrong. Because there was no way that your best friend was just going to up and leave you like this. Now of all times when you really needed his steady support the most.
"What...? Why would you...?" Your voice was so small as you tried to comprehend the situation.
Simon's hand tightened around his grip on the bag.
"I can't stay and watch you marry him. And I can't stay and watch you be married to him," Simon avoided your gaze, and his voice was full of bitterness that you haven't heard from him before.
"I don't understand...," you murmured.
"It's too hard," Simon swallowed nervously, shifting his weight around on his feet. And then, he revealed something he should have said to you when you first told him of this arranged marriage.
"It should be me."
You drew in a quick breath when he said that. Simon then threw his belongings over Fawn's saddle and marched up till he was right in front of you. He grasped your shoulders with his hands and stared at you intently with those gorgeous amber eyes.
"I want to be the one you marry. I want to be the one you grow older with. Laugh with over stupid things. I want to take care of you, be there for you when you need me, and hold you close at night when the world seems loud," his confession was bringing tears to your eyes, but Simon wasn't done yet.
"I want a family with you. A bunch of rascals to call our own, who get into trouble just like we did. But more than anything, I want to be the one you think of when times get tough. I want to be your best friend. Your lover. Your everything," Simon then took a sharp breath, his grip on your shoulders loosening as he muttered, "but your father would never allow any of it."
"Simon...I...I want it all too. But—"
In one quick motion, he kissed you. Just like that.
It was your first kiss. His lips fit perfectly against yours like a puzzle piece. It was a little shaky and uncertain, but it felt so right. Your hands moved to rest against his chest as his hands stayed contently on your shoulders, gently rubbing them now and again. You knew if anyone saw this, Simon would be in big trouble. But neither of you thought of that right now.
He pulled away quicker than you wanted him to.
"Where will you go?" You whispered, moving to rest your forehead against his chest.
"Beyond the Meridian," Simon moved to place an arm around your waist, pulling you into a hug while his other hand gently stroked your hair.
As soon as he said that you snapped back to look at him in shock.
"Not forever," he quickly clarified. Simon wasn't running away all together. He then reluctantly moved away from you to continue tying his bags to Fawn's saddle. The Legiana stood patiently for him.
"I'll come back to visit. Maybe to see your first heir. I assume you're having one," he spat that last part out venomously, and your heart broke.
You didn't want any of that if it wasn't with him.
He then realized that this goodbye shouldn't end like this with his bitter jealousy getting in the way. Simon moved back over to you while removing his Ranger's jacket—a prized possession to him.
"Here," he handed you the aforementioned article of clothing, "keep this in good condition for me."
"Simon...I can't," you murmured even as you took the jacket that still radiated with his warmth.
"You can. We both know that Gaul gets absorbed with doing all sorts of tasks for the Rangers and the kingdom—wear this on those lonely days," he mentioned with a soft yet sad smile.
You hugged the jacket close—breathing in that familiar scent of pine and ice—before rushing over and giving Simon a tight hug. He returned it fiercely, placing a kiss to your forehead. All the love that could never be poured out in that moment.
"Goodbye, Princess."
"Goodbye Simon..."
Walking back alone to the Ranger's base hung heavy over you—even more so now that Simon's jacket was clutched in your arms like a precious heirloom.
Your eyes stung from tears.
As soon as Simon flew off on Fawn, you started to cry. You curled up with Ratha and just wept. So many things were breaking you up inside. This arranged marriage. Simon's confession. Your own feelings. The knowledge that Simon was leaving—and across the Meridian no less. What if he never came back at all?
Kora noticed you arrive first.
"Hey," she then saw your puffy eyes and Simon's jacket, "what's wrong?"
Instead of answering her with words, you answered with a hiccup and a sob. All the tears came back. Kora moved to embrace you immediately, and you cried into her like a child would to their mother. The others could simply watch.
That was until Ogden smacked Gaul's shoulder—which irritated the younger man—and then gestured to you. Gaul got the message. He stood up and walked over, taking Kora's place in hugging you. And you continued to cry into his chest this time.
Gaul's hugs were warm and safe. His strong arms holding you steady as the world crumbled around you.
Yes, his hugs were nice—but he wasn't Simon.
And you had to keep that moment with your best friend to yourself. Your fellow Rangers—and fiancé now—could take a guess as to why you were so broken.
But like Gaul said earlier. You guys will just have to make the best of this situation.
And for you that meant waiting and watching the horizon for the return of not just your best friend—but your true love.
Annnnndddd it's done. Apologies for the wait! I feel I went in so many directions, but I hope the story was good! It got longer than I intended XD but I'd like to think that's not always a bad thing. Enjoy!❤️
