“Is this an attempt at flirtation, or are you hinting at deeper, emotional secrets that you should probably talk to a therapist about?”
“Totally the therapist option,” he laughed. “Hi. I’m Nat.”

“Is this an attempt at flirtation, or are you hinting at deeper, emotional secrets that you should probably talk to a therapist about?”
“Totally the therapist option,” he laughed. “Hi. I’m Nat.”
ingridreagan:
@natxswier
“Hey, Sweir!” Ingrid called, speedwalking toward him with purpose. She pulled up a chair and dropped the stack of papers she was carrying in front of him. They were fliers with the faces of the twelve missing students on them. In big, bold letters above their faces was the phrase DON’T FORGET ABOUT US. At the bottom was some contact information for anyone who found out anything.
“What do you think?” she asked. “I was gonna ask your help in covering the school with these, but I wanted to see what you thought of the overall design. Think this’ll catch people’s attention?”
Nat wasn’t in the mood to talk to people after Lydia. He didn’t feel comfortable in his own skin and he didn’t feel comfortable that a girl with such enthusiasm was still happy. Maybe he wanted to drag other people down with him, who knew.
“It’s alright, I suppose,” he said quietly. If he were honest, he didn’t like the idea of posters very much. The school should have been actively looking for them, he should be the one to find them.
feyofsnakes:
The strangest thing was that Fey was almost certain she had seen this guy around at parties and he never seemed this quiet before. Personal trauma? That was always golden.
“You, uh… looked like you could use some company… Sorry, should I go?”
He wanted to be alone and away from it all. Did she want to be with him, or was she just there like all the others who had tried to help before? “You don’t have to stand here if you don’t feel like it. I’m fine.”
loganduvall:
Logan chuckled before reaching out to shake his hand. “Logan Duvall,” she replied. “So what makes you think you’d get in trouble for smoking? Did you kill someone with a cigarette and now you’re banned from ever touching them, or something?”
“Hah, funny. Unfortunately I did not, no.” He smiled a little to himself. “I used to be sort of a troublemaker. I’ve been trying to stop, but I think smoking’s making it worse,” he admitted.
ariellethearcher:
Arielle looked about her surroundings, “… Who exactly am I not supposed to tell?”
“People--just, please. Don’t get me in trouble.”
slcuthisms:
“You know, that answer just poses more questions than it answered.” Ana mused in jest. “First thing is first, what do you mean by trouble? Should I be leaving you and your smoke in search of safety?”
“No, no, no, not like that. It’s just--well, I used to do a lot of bad things. A lot of stupid things, like smoking. I’ve been trying to stop, but it’s not really working. And I just don’t want to get in trouble anymore.” He felt nervousness creep up on him. “I was kind of known for getting in trouble, actually.”
theglcrious:
“If this is the dirtiest secret you have, mate, then you’re doing well in life.”
“Trust me, this isn’t the worst thing. We’ll save my deepest secrets for another time.”
cryohearted:
❛ Smoking a cigarette won’t do that. ❜ she stated, flicking the butt of the cigarette to allow the excess of ash fall to the floor. She could understand why he didn’t want to get in trouble no more. Maybe not his reasoning behind it, but she wasn’t going to admit that out loud. Nor did she care, but it seemed like he was doing a better job at it than her. He was actually worried. And she, well she wasn’t. Not for the most part. Considering how fucked up her moral compass is, the stuff she does doesn’t seem all that horrible to her. She goes to class and studies her magic, isn’t that enough? Isn’t that what they want from them anyways? ❛ I know, I try so hard ❜
He took the cigarette to his lips again and breathed in another puff of smoke. He hated smoking and he knew it would disappoint his mother (if she did ever find out), but the foul taste and smell were enough to keep him from his thoughts. It stopped him from thinking about everything: friends, school, Lydia especially. And here he was, with some lady he’d barely just met who certainly did not look like the good or orderly type. Maybe he should let loose, even though he didn’t know whether to trust such a stranger. “I’m Nat. I haven’t seen you around here before.”
feyofsnakes:
Standing outside a school building in his possibly free time. A smoker. A blank stare. Not particularly friendly. She knew the kind. He was lost. She wasn’t sure she needed a lost boy around here, but maybe… Being lost was only a nudge away from utter chaos. Maybe she could feel the situation out and see if it would be worth it. And lost people tended to stick together…. So she hugged one arm to her chest while the other aided her stick, taking a few small, unsure steps away from the wall of the building behind her.
“Fey, I guess.”
“Pleasure.” He flicked the cigarette, sprinkling ash onto the concrete. He felt awkward that he wasn’t able to say anything, but there wasn’t anything for him to offer. No jokes, no sarcastic comments. He could sense the difference in him and he hated it. “Is there any reason why you chose to join me?”
loganduvall:
“I find asking for forgiveness is better than permission,” she shrugged. “Now I actually highly doubt that, but what’s that ancient proverb? You must be Level 4 Friend before unlocking my tragic backstory.”
“Tragic backstory? That makes two of us,” he breathed out another puff of smoke. Maybe he wouldn’t be so lonely after all. “I’m Nat. Nat Swier.” He extended a hand for her to shake.
cryohearted:
❛ I’m not a snitch, cabrón. ❜ she rolled her eyes. She lolled her head back, allowing the smoke to leave her lips. ❛ You act as if we are planning some kind of murder. ❜ she laughed, looking over at him with a grin. It honestly would be a lot more fun if they were but she had no doubt he would ruin the mood. ❛ Relax, or you’re going to have to change that diaper of yours. ❜
“We’re not planning a murder, I just--I don’t want to get into trouble anymore.” She reminded him of himself before Lydia’s disappearance: sarcastic, reckless, not caring if they got themselves into a mess. He couldn’t tell if that was good or bad as he laughed nervously at her remark. “Wow, you’re too kind.”
feyofsnakes:
“Wow, thanks. I’ve only gone to this school for five years. Glad I made such an impression.” Note the heavily coated sarcasm.
“...Sorry. I haven’t been here that long.” He paused, thinking of what to say next. “I’m Nat. And you are?”
slcuthisms:
“If you hadn’t made a point of making it seem secretive, I probably would’ve let it go.” Ana remarked dismissively, opening a palm of her hand to gently carry the smoke away from her face with a light breeze. “But now, you have me thinking. Don’t tell what, exactly?”
“Well, I haven’t smoked in a while, and I wasn’t planning on it... not tonight, anyway,” he admitted. “I just don’t wanna be in trouble anymore. I've been in enough trouble as it is.”
adam-said:
He could have dodged. Adam had been in fistfights for longer than he could remember, his reflexes could have easily protected him. But what fun was letting the boy’s fist hit the wooden bench when there was magic to play with. He may be a freak, but at a school for freaks he could have fun with it. He wouldn’t even feel guilty. The punch hit him square in the nose, a satisfying crunch telling him it was broken. Blood began to flow, but the next moment it stopped. The pain disappeared, a grin spreading across his face as he wiped the blood away with one sleeve.
“Good job, babe, feel any better?” Adam stood, licking his lips, excited by the prospect of more violence. “Want another go? I won’t even fight back.”
He should’ve been more careful and he shouldn’t have been so careless; Nat immediately regretted his violent decision when he felt a sharp pain on his face and soon found a steady stream of blood trickling under his nose. It wasn’t like Nat had never been in a fight before, but the realization that he was at a disadvantage confused him. So much for his affinity.
He staggered back a little and held onto his now bleeding nose, looking back up at the man with a cold glare. He didn’t know what to say and he knew he should step down from this fight, a fight that wasn’t in his favor.
“Just stay away from me,” he finally managed to say, his nose throbbing with pain. “Whoever the hell you are, don’t come near me ever again.”
loganduvall:
“Do I actually look that much like a narc?” She mutters before plucking the cigarette from his lips and taking a drag herself. “I’m out, hope you don’t mind,” she says a little too late.
“You could’ve asked first,” he admitted, taking it back from her. “Plus, I think I need it more than you do.”
adam-said:
Adam’s eyes rolled, head tilting up so he could look at the boy, “I don’t particularly care for sob stories, sweetheart. Or where you sit. There are plenty o’ benches on campus, so go fuck off. Thanks.”
Nat bit his lip, his ears ringing. He tried to find Lydia’s voice of reason, and he couldn’t hear it. Of course he couldn’t hear it, why would he? She was gone, and there was nothing he could do about it. Not now, not ever. He promised himself he’d be better after her disappearance, but things were only worse. Nat was angry, angry at her, angry at the school, angry at this total stranger who didn’t have the decency to be kind.
And so, with his arm surging, Nat socked the stranger in the face.
adam-said:
“Or you could leave.” He did not have the energy for this today, it was bad enough that he’d gone to class. “So why don’t you?”
“I...” Nat clenched his fist. He could feel his skin flaming and his throat choking up. “I’m sorry that I don’t usually sit here. But it’s a bit harder when you don’t have a sis-” He cut himself off and paused. “Forget it. You wouldn’t know.”
