my name’s eph, im 24 and i’ve been playing the game daily since october 10th, 2020. i fell in love with its universe and really like diving into the lore, discussing theories and talking about the characters, so i made a blog to do just that ! feel free to stick around and join the conversations ❤
more info under the cut that i’d appreciate be read before you interact with me or engage with whatever i’ll be posting here.
my favorites are diluc, childe and kaeya, in no particular order, so my attention tends to circle back to those three, even when something isn’t about them. keep this in mind ! similarly, as passionate as i am about the world of genshin, i dont know every detail about every piece of lore - im an adult with a full time job - so if youre gonna inform me of any misconception i have, please dont be condescending about it !
this blog might be a bit vent-y at time (eheh see what i did there); the genshin fanbase is massive, there’s a lot of different people and therefore a lot of different attitudes and opinions towards different elements of it, some of which tend to rub me the wrong way. i may sometimes use this platform as an outlet to express my disagreement or unpopular opinions about common ideas i see a lot.
this is a sideblog, by the way ! if you get a follow or likes from @pyrodigy, thats me. you can also ask for my discord or genshin UID if you ever need help or just wanna vibe, im on NA server ! im a blessedly diluc haver + main since june 17th, 2021 (after eight months and a week of playing, he finally came home), but i also have a few good noodles to put at your disposable if you need help (c6 childe, c2 zhongli, c1 xiao... you get the idea). in fact, i currently have every single character except for albedo, ganyu, hu tao and ayaka.
do not interact:
legitimate diluc haters; im a diluc kinnie (derogatory) (this is only half sarcastic, i dont actually believe in kins but i identify with his character a lot so it bothers me on a fairly personal level when people hate on him)
kaelucs; kaeya and diluc are canonly adopted siblings and if you think its okay to ship them romantically i dont want you anywhere near me
minors: i wont go about policing who does or doesnt interact with my posts but i wont be personally engaging with minors for comfort + safety reasons.
honestly hope to god we spend several days investigating this matter with keqing only to bump into zhongli at the very end and ask him and have him give us the answer to everything in one (1) sentence
Don’t read if you like her or you wanna argue because I’m not here for it. I honestly think she is a very flawed archon due to the writers’ incompetence.
Okay, this is just me venting and expressing my frustrations and disdain for her character and what the writers did to her.
I hate Ei and I don’t care what you think. It doesn’t matter that she is not directly responsible because it is her malfunctioning puppet and being deceived by the Fatui. The point is she was indirectly RESPONSIBLE for the suffering done to Inazuma’s inhabitants.
Also, I hate that Ei was AWARE of it but chose to be a fucking NEET in her own room? And I hate her story was just going on a date with her instead of actually showing her Seirai Island, Tatarasuna, the Sakura Cleansing, and all the DAMAGE caused due to her absence. “She was absent to give Inazuma eternal life” well, clearly no one in Inazuma felt that. All the time she spent cooped up in her room had no impact whatsoever.
I dont give a fuck you ended up liking Dango Milk. I wanted YOU TO SEE WHAT YOUR TYRANNY HAS DONE and ATONE FOR IT. Instead, Mihoyo just reduced her to an archon who cant freaking cook and has a booba sword animation.
She deserves to feel shame and guilt. We should see her actively work to winning the trust and love of those she hurt. We don’t get that. Instead, people just fucking simped for her as she appeared.
I am massively disappointed that her story quest had no depth. You want a good written female character? Yoimiya. and the bar is so low considering that hers is like the only story quest in this trash heap of a patch that actually centred on Yoimiya’s character and the people she made an impact on. We actually learn about Yoimiya’s friends, the village she grew up in, the importance of fireworks. It was lore-packed and I lived for it. It wasnt a “date your waifu x.0″. Yoimiya is a great character and I used my guaranteed pity for her.
For Ayaka, I guess she gets a pass because Traveler was her first outsider friend. I did feel like I wish we learned about Ayaka’s leadership, but it wasn’t too bad unlike freaking Raiden’s which absolutely Made No Sense on WHY we are touring the city with her.
I would have pulled for Raiden if she was actually a good character in the story, but no, I don’t like what Mihoyo did to her. The Raiden Shogun is a badly written character and that includes Ei. If you simp her then I’m not here to argue.
if we’re to get an archon of each weapon type, that means we still have sword, claymore and catalyst to assign to the remaining four. what are you guys’s guesses ?
something genshin could do to make farming artifacts a little less painful: when it shows you what your domain reward, you get an option to send it to the 'fodder folder' and get 10 artifacts resin refunded. you cant equip artifacts that are in the fodder folder, only use them to level up other artifacts, and you can only use artifacts resin in artifacts domain. that way you still have to pay 20 resin to get the reward initially, but at least if you get two shitty pulls that youre only gonna use for fodder you can try one more time
one of the better improvements mhy could make to the picture function aside from adding more poses and expressions would be to add the option to pose more than one character at once !! lemme arrange a nice photograph of a whole party without having to obnoxiously set it up in co-op you cowards
your dailies consist of doing commissions and spending resin, mine consist of flooding mhy’s feedback with requests to update diluc’s model and make tomo playable, we are not the same
the fact that kaeya likes the sun and the warmth so much is devastating knowing how the abyss is so closely tied to night/darkness because it either means that kaeya really does prefer the climate of mondstadt/teyvat to that of his birth home OR that on the contrary khaenri’ah used to be just as sunny and warm and that it’s the abyssal curse that plunged it into shadows and honestly im not sure which is worse
i think something im a bit disappointed in with the direction genshin’s writing is going towards is that... its falling into this typical anime pattern where it spells everything out for you instead of having a balance of explicit and implicit information shared with the player in a variety of ways. it makes the texts/dialogue a lot more heavy and tedious to get through, but it’s also a lot less rewarding for the player to pay attention and take an interest. i feel like the game initially had a good amount of ‘show dont tell’ and im not sure why theyve been casually throwing that out the window as the story progresses.
an example of comparison would be diluc and ayaka’s story quests, which are respectively very old and very recent, that both showcase how lonely those particular characters are. diluc’s story quest shows you this without throwing it in your face; the most explicit allusion to it being a line where he says he has ‘persevered alone from the start’, and the rest being up to the player to pay attention to - like the way he goes so far out of his way to not rely on anyone (aside from MC), and the way he reacts when kaeya tells him he’s glad diluc found someone he was willing to let help. these are things you’ll only pick up on if you care to; they’re not forced onto you if you dont care for it.
on the other hand, ayaka’s story quest dedicates a good few minutes to drilling it into your mind that she has no friends (which isn’t even true !! she tells you herself how much of a close friend thoma is, and that she’s on good terms with yoimiya) and kinda forces you to feel sorry for her. im not saying this invalidates the character trait or that she doesnt deserve compassion for it, but the way this fact is presented to you rubs me the wrong way, as it feels like the writers are trying to push you to care for her when i would have just the same if they’d hinted at her loneliness more subtly.
another old/recent example would be venti and yoimiya’s story quests. where venti went around convincing jack and stanley that these random items are of rare and valuable, you can observe what he’s doing on your own terms and come to the conclusion of ‘oh, he’s really good at being encouraging and showing people how to find value in things they might overlook otherwise’; whereas with yoimiya, they have npcs very explicitly acknowledge those things as if you werent able to discern them on your own. to me, that sours the experience, it takes away from the satisfaction i get from being able to get my own read on these characters.
i get that not everyone who plays this game is as old myself, or a writer, and therefore not everyone is hardwired to pay attention to some things and that this type of writing helps them appreciate characters more at a first glance. but, personally, it’s making me feel a lot less emotionally connected to them, and i think it’s a shame the writing is taking that direction when the ‘show and tell’ aspect felt a lot more balanced early game instead of being all ‘tell’
