As my main income, I work with fish in a specialty pet store that's privately owned (so I'm allowed to say no and be stern to customers when it's needed).

You learn really quickly that not only do fish have individual personalities and emotions but they also have memories and recognize people! There are certain fish who will only come out for me and hide for everyone else. The pufferfish spits at me because she gets pissy that I haven't fed her. The flowerhorn bites everyone but me and my coworker when we clean his tank. I trained a fire eel to come up and eat directly out of my hand.

Fish are beautiful complex creatures and I thank the universe everyday that I get to work in a place where I'm encouraged to tell animal abusers to fuck right off.

The fact that “dolls having a tea party” has stuck around in the public consciousness is fascinating to me.

Like, back in the Old Days that would be a way that women would actually socialize.  So if a girl had a doll tea party, she was imitating her mom / other contemporary women.

But these days contemporary women don’t have tea parties. So now, the idea of “dolls having a tea party” is an echo of an extinct behavior, only repeated and referenced because it used to be so prevalent.

and what would peaceful mode be in minecraft. what part of the lore would it be? would it be before or after the storm? would it be when everything's gone extinct, save for the few overworld mobs? the nether nothing but a barren wasteland with not a single soul left but the sand and soil you walk upon?

the nights are silent. too silent. the footsteps you hear behind you are not mobs trying to kil you. the cave noises are not any active threats. they shouldn't be. there are no threats here.

the caves are empty. they're nothing but endless tunnels and ravines. they are not dangerous anymore. there is nothing there; the most you will find is a bat.

and the deep darks. the shriekers shriek for nothing. they are warning you for a danger that is not there. the warden will not come. it did not hear them; it is not there.

the piglins do not care about their riches anymore. you can take as much as you see fit. they will not lay a single sword or arrow on you. for what reason are they so apathetic?

the fortresses that were once brimming with hostile life now sit dormant. they are nothing but empty bridges and hallways. there is not a single soul here to lay the smallest of scratch on you.

spawners do not spawn any mobs. there is nothing here. what happened for them to stop working? what made them work in the first place?

the end is barren. there is nothing here. the only living souls that remain are shulkers and the dragon. the endermen are long gone. the shulkers do not attack you. they dare not guard the cities they reside in any longer.

what happened? what caused the lingering apathy, what caused the extinction of so many beings? or is it before the world turned hostile? i suppose we won't know better than guessing..

It's been my interpretation for a while that peaceful mode is Minecraft as Herobrine might perceive it. Mobs aren't shown because Herobrine is drawn out from and thus aligned with the spirit of the world, which is to say, the world doesn't fight back against them and also supports them with constant regeneration. Conversely Steve is against the spirit of the world and is aligned with the modes easy through hard. Hardcore is reserved for Alex, because the world judges/perceives her as arrogant and prideful and wants her gone for good, also because she is more warlike and more of a capable adventurer than Steve, and poses a genuine (again, perceived) threat to the spirit of the world itself, of which Jean (the Ender Dragon) is appointed as it's ruler. (either reluctantly or eagerly) TL;DR: The world itself has a spirit and acts upon the player as seen through various archetypes.
