Here’s a poster I did as a project for school! I had a bunch of lovely participants from the cripple punk tag be my models. The poster was presented a MOSAIC conference on intersectional gender issues. It was a hit!

hey if you’re disabled or chronically ill & have a hard time standing i want you to know that it’s ok to sit down when able bodied people wouldn’t or aren’t. not just in the context of using a wheelchair but just like. whenever. pull up a stool in front of the stove when you make mac & cheese. kneel on a chair in front of the sink when you’re washing the dishes. going outside to smoke/wait for a cab/whatever? pop a squat on the sidewalk/curb/stoop. get a shower chair. it’s not weird or shameful to minimize your pain & it’s not worth wasting spoons just because “normal people would do it standing up”

which isnt to say dont stand up if youre needing to get the exercise of standing when you can but if you’re working with a limited energy budget & dont need to cause yourself that extra pain. you dont have to

Tw for talk of hard drugs, near death, and hospital stay

After almost a three weeks I'm finally getting out of the hospital. I can't really tell anyone the whole story of what happened so I'm just going to let it out here.

I almost died from a flesh eating bacteria in my chest, and am now disfigured from the amount of tissue and muscle they had to cut out. It's taken three weeks of hospital care to make me stable enough to go home. And I'll be on home health care for at least a month to come and will be house bound the whole time.

I knew I was sick, I thought I just had a bad flu or something like I always get. So I was self medicating with meth because I didn't want to go to the ER or the doctor anymore. I was up for three days tweeking around and crashed for two days. When I woke up enough to look in the mirror I had a necrotic hole in my right pectoral.

I was so tired of doctors and hospitals and needles and IVs. So I thought I could take care of myself with fucking dope. And it almost killed me. And I hate myself for it.

So I know I haven't been posting, but it's because I've been in the hospital for almost two weeks now. After my last post about being afraid to go to the ER because I had drugs in my system, I did end up going to the ER. 7 blown IVs later, I'm admitted. I had an absess on my chest I was told they would lance and I'd be going home the next day. I woke up four hours later with most of my right pectoral cut out. I had a flesh eating bacteria that had also thrown me into DKA. So I almost died multiple times while in ICU and have had five surgeries in the last week and a half. Honestly I'm just grateful to still be here. I've got a lot more recovery to go, but I'll be okay

I’m tired of having to choose what I do based on how much pain it might cause me. I’m tired of having to guess how long I have left until the pain becomes unbearable. I’m tired of wondering what the next new symptom will be I’m tired of having to choose between this hurting and that hurting. I’m tired of having to choose between what’s good for my mental health and what’s good for my physical health. I’m tired of having to choose between feeling lazy and useless and being in incredible pain. I’m tired of always waiting for the pain to get worse. I’m tired of counting down until the end of the day so I can sleep because you can’t feel pain when you’re asleep. I’m tired of being this tired, and I’m sick of being sick. #chroniclife
