What did happen, because honestly, according to basically all of Tumblr Mary Shelly only wrote Frankenstein to get back at ‘the dudebros’ she was surrounded by, but Tumblr is often horrendous at retelling actual history.

In the year 1816, mary, her lover percy, and their child spent the summer in Geneva with Lord Byron, Claire Claremont, and John Polodri. They stayed at the Villa Diodati, and the trip was organized by lord byron. It was very wet so they were stuck inside a lot and told german ghost stories to pass time. Mary was a very well educated person, as was everyone else on the trip, so they often discussed topics such as nature, philosophy, and the principles of life. Lord Byron proposed that since everyone there was a writer/poet of some sort, they should all write their own ghost stories, and Mary started on a story about the possibilities of life being reanimated. It turned out to be a full length novel which we know as Frankenstein.

There were no parties; Byron, Percy, and Polidori were not “dude-bros” or frat boys, and they certainly didn’t discourage Mary from writing or insist that she couldn’t. They weren’t trying to constantly get her into their bed; hell byron was more likely trying to get percy into his bed. Mary didn’t write because she said that “they couldn’t do it”

I don’t know if this was supposed to be a shitpost or if y’all are genuinely serious. Either way, good riddance. Mary Shelley and all those in the story involved are nothing like what y’all are propagating.
