Game Sonic is not the type of person to try and talk things out if he fully believes the person he's up against is doing something wrong. Even if it's someone that he's fully intent on sparing or talking to afterward.
The merlina case displays this best
Sonic is baffled by how ludicrous her goal is
When Merlina tries explaining, Sonic's response is basically "shut up. I don't wanna hear this"
Whenever Merlina tries to start up an argument, Sonic's only response is making a snarky comment about how dumb her goal is
most importantly, Sonic does NOT entertain any legitimate debate or conversation with Merlina until AFTER he's completely beaten her down and she's incapable of causing havoc anymore.
It should be noted. Sonic specifically tells Merlina what's relevant to the situation and what he believes she needs to hear.
He doesn't say some dumb crap akin to "we got off on the wrong foot, but if you chill out and take a page from my notebook, you could be as cool as me one day!"
Sonic still respects merlina's individuality and ability to make choices. He understands that his view of life isn't the same for everyone else.
"At least that's what I figure"
At no point does Sonic ever try convincing anyone that his way is the only way. He respects people's differences and opinions. As long as they aren't harming innocents, Sonic won't take any issue with their choices.
Another great example is chaos. Sonic went into that battle with full intent of saving chaos from what's basically eternal damnation.
But Sonic understands that certain people will not stop unless something else MAKES them stop. So Sonic took it upon himself to forcibly remove/physically beat the anger out of chaos. Because that was the only way
Also, chaos is immortal, so even if Sonic wanted to kill him, he wouldn't have been able to.
The only real option in this scenario is to erase the rage inside of chaos, and Sonic knew this.
Imagine if Sonic went, "Come on, chaos! I know you're mad about what happened in the past, but you can't do this! This isn't who you are! Don't you wanna be laid back and chill like me??!?" It would have been stupid and straight up arrogant if Sonic tried that.
But here's the main point. Sonic consciously and without hesitation chose to FORCIBLY REMOVE the opposition's ability to choose a path that would endanger themselves and blameless victims. He didn't waste time attempting an explanation on why they were wrong and needed to get a clue.
Meanwhile there's this absolute buffoon
This comic's version of Sonic insists on giving everyone a choice to change, knowing full well that they won't ever change, but then gets mad at them for never changing. Gee it's like you knew that wouldn't happen but kept demanding it anyway.
It comes across as juvenile and embarrassing
"the being who's incapable of choosing anything other than being evil....kept being evil???"
Oh and this stupid line right here
remember how Time Eater was just a random creature being puppeted around by eggman after having its body forcibly mangled and modified?
Sonic kills the thing without a second thought
Yes Sonic in the games has fought people with intent of changing their minds, but he knew that simply repeatedly spamming the "you have a choice bro!" Option wouldn't be enough. Even then he only does this with people who have redeeming qualities like merlina or weird cases like chaos where he's immortal so killing isn't an option. The conflict with Blaze is essentially Sonic going "I just wanna talk" but she wasn't evil at all. The only time i can think of where sonic straight up refused to fight someone entirely in favor of understanding them was Sage but she's still loyal to Eggman at the end of the day
If someone is completely gone (irredeemable or a imminent threat to random bystanders) Sonic isn't gonna waste time trying to convince them there's a better way or whatever.
Short version - Sonic, when written in character, fully understands that certain hearts can NOT be swayed by words or kindness and will take upon himself to use violent brute force when necessary. In fact, Sonic can even be the first one to try physical force, while his enemy attempts a debate.
