really curious to see what trans & intersex people have to say about Paralives character creation. from what i've seen so far there is an impressive amount of free (i.e not dependent on choosing "male" or "female") customization when it comes to sex characteristics (body shape, breasts, facial hair, even an Adam's apple) but i'd love to hear from folks who have played the game now that its out!

okay i bit the bullet & got it (its 10% off until June 1) & yeah i think they've done a pretty good job!

you can select gender (male / female / nonbinary, only one) but it is not related to any physical traits; you can look any way and be any gender. the gender selection also includes

pronoun selection (he/him, she/her, they/them, only one set)

ability to be pregnant, impregnate others, or neither

the ability to breastfeed or not

jealousy settings

you can have breasts, an Adam's apple, facial and body hair, a higher or lower voice (there are 4 options rn), and none of the clothing, hairstyles, or decoration is gendered either. there's no top (or bottom) surgery scars rn, but i believe they are planning to add binders that actually function to flatten a character's chest in the future too, and on steam there's already a lot of folks working on mods so i'm sure there will be plenty of options going forward both from user content and the base game.

also, you can make fat people! there is a body fat slider, but also a lot of customization across the body, so you can have characters that are fat in various different ways. they've also got a hijab and turban option, and options for prosthetic legs, hearing aids, and a face mask. in terms of non-white people, they've got a good selection of curly hairstyles, you can have any type of nose, and you can choose custom colors for the skintones (and pretty much everything else) and you can change the palm skin color specifically. they've also got pride flags in build mode :) trans, progress flag, lesbian flag, pan flag, and ace flag right now.

its still in early access so its not flawless, but they've also said all updates will be free and part of the base game, and are working on fixing bugs and adding more content. so if you like the Sims-type games, consider checking it out!

torrents work like this

i have a file or folder on my pc that i want to share with other people. let's call it gayshit.mp3

unfortunately gayshit.mp3 is 750mb and im not paying for discord nitro so i need another way to send it

i put it into qbittorrent and it makes a torrent file. this is essentially a very small file that points to gayshit.mp3 so other computers can find it. kinda like a treasure map

i send this tiny file to my friend, who loads it into qbittorrent. their computer takes a moment to find mine over the vast expanse of cyberspace and then (as long as my pc is running and the file is still where it should be), it gets copied from my hard drive to theirs

this is the cool part: if somebody else loads that tiny file, they can download it from both of us. if i'm offline but my friend is on, the third person can still get it. this also means that if two people have separate halves of the file, they can download the other half from each other. as long as some combination of people have the pieces between them, they can all have the whole thing.

crucially this does not require a server!!! you can just upload the file to a few people and as long as they keep it, it's still accessible. as long as somebody, somewhere is still connected, it's available forever. the only way it goes away is if everybody disconnects from it.

The crazy thing is, ninety-nine times out of a hundred, if you asked me on any given day "Would like to see a picture of some genitals?" my answer would be "😰 No, that's... No, thank you. I have nothing but the utmost respect for people who do engage with the penis side of the internet, but personally, I've spent the better part of two decades doing all I can NOT to have pictures of dick and balls or sexy bikini babe buttcheeks blasted onto my retinas constantly. And yet... to be denied the penis? To have a jumped up pile of javascript tell me, a grown adult with an air fryer and an outstanding council tax bill, that I cannot be trusted to withstand the sight of a bare nipple unless I let it scan my drivers' license? I think something that doesn't get talked about nearly enough is how many dead trans people will never be counted in statistics for their deaths. How many trans people are misgendered in their obituaries and in news articles, who are buried under gravestones with the wrong names, who never had the chance to come out or whose real names and pronouns were hidden by the media or by their families, who aren't given dignity and respect and kindness even in death. Who came out to someone they loved and trusted and it was the last thing they ever did.

We will never truly know how many trans people are murdered, even when the murder was because of transphobia. We will never truly know how many trans people committed suicide because of fear and transphobia. It's a horrific tragedy and a reality that I don't think a lot of people are prepared to grapple with. We all want to think that there'll be someone who will speak out for them after their deaths, who will shout their names and pronouns from the rooftop even if they never get the chance to change what gravestones or urns or obituaries say. But that isn't always the case and we will never be able to know how common it is for trans people to take their names to the grave.
