i fucking hate my neighbour. he lives in a gnarled wizard tower which is fine but theres always a flurry of bats flitting around. the amount of times they fly into my god damn windows like its actually so fucking annoying. i guess he makes and sells potions for a living but his potion waste is ruining our fucking pipes. and then theres the frequent claps of dramatic thunder and lightning which send my poor dog mental. i can always hear maniacal laughter and he keeps summoning skeleton armies which absolutely ruin my lawn when they rise from the earth. its just so fucking inconsiderate man.

For clarity: it is a question of timing and luck, and is out of my hands. My coauthors and I have something like 15 new species under review or in press right now, but so do at least a dozen other teams of amphibian taxonomists, I’m sure. I did have the honour of describing the 8000th amphibian species added to Amphibian Species of the World back in 2019 (it was Anodonthyla eximia). It seems almost too much to ask that I would have the luck to describe the 8000th frog, too!
