unrestrained summer fun
every year around late may, without fail, this post starts getting notes again . and my little wet raw chicken breast of a brain gets puzzled. because i forget that summer is , in fact. a yearly event
@possuminnit
something something “I’m a person and my name is Anakin” showing his name is a central way he retains identity while a child slave vs “that name no longer has any meaning to me” in almost the same breath as “I must obey my master” thirty years later after Sidious accomplished what Gardulla and Watto never managed to: breaking his spirit and convincing him he has no other options but obedience, accepting painful consequences, never looking for a way out. something like that

Empire strikes back
Ah yes, finally I made the next part of this awful thing. I lost a lot of energy for it after i lost the work of several pannels and had to start from zero, but hey, here it is.... :]
There are some gems in YouTube comments
- Padmé at 14: *Sovereign Monarch of an entire planet*
- Anakin since birth: *Legendary Chosen One destined to destroy the Sith*
- Leia at 19: *One of the youngest senators ever*
- Luke at 19: Hey, check out my toy skyhopper! *pew pew*!
So this is not a plea for money. This is something that surprised me, and chatting with people on discord, they were unaware of as well.
Discovered last year I couldn’t look at my 2015 MacBook Air without it triggering nausea and migraines, and figured the screen died. Have been getting by on my phone, but concluded I really need a laptop again.
Saved up, realised I could afford a brand new MacBook Neo, and got one.
-And I couldn’t spend more than five minutes looking at the screen without massive eye strain, nausea, vertigo, and if I pushed it, I-need-to-lie-down-in-a-dark-room-for-hours migraines.
Looking up MacBook and Eyestrain explained what is going on. The liquid retina displays that Apple currently has uses Pulse Width Modulation or PWM. In order to give the screens a deeper depth of colour and contrast, PWM flickers between several hundred to thousand times a second.
And there is currently no way to turn it off. There are settings and apps to reduce it, but there is no way to stop the screen from flickering. Checked Apple forums, called Apple Support, and the time I could look at the screen kept shrinking. Got the laptop Tuesday, returned it Friday, today is Sunday and I’m still dealing with a vertigo migraine.
For MacBooks, it seems to vary on the computer model and the software it uses. In retrospect, the issue with my MacBook Air started after a major software update.
And it’s not just an Apple thing. Current Windows and Android screens do the same thing. There’s even a Reddit for people who are sensitive to PWM flickers to help find computers and screens that won’t trigger eyestrain and headaches.
So, yeah. This week has been a learning experience. But for those who are prone to headaches and migraines, this may be something to be aware of, cause I was not.
on a completely different note, i absolutely adore piett’s petty side like. sir. those very professionally murderous guys can hear you
also, some piett pondering under the cut:
honestly, i can’t help but hc that piett started to openly show his bite only after being promoted to admiral.
Yessss this! I also HC that he was a lot mouthier in the anti-pirate fleet and even to a certain degree early on in his Imperial days (my timeline has him with Tarkin's fleet before Death Star and then Death Squadron), but he quickly learns that he's going to have to put a sock in it once he joins the imps.
...Vader being the sarcastic, confrontational git that he is is not a good influence LOL! Cue Vader being sassy in meetings and Piett trying not to show any reaction. Absolutely no chortling or snorting. No siree bob.
Can I dream a little and imagine that he's talking to Max or Vader?

Security Footage
It is always night in space. No matter what the chrono reads or what the artificial lighting tries to emulate. Always night, always trapped in the hours before the dawn. Just as Vader is trapped in other ways...
For years these silent, lonely hours have been his only reprieve. Time to meditate. Time to try and heal himself even as Palpatine is all the while leaching more and ensuring his wounds only end up worsening in the end.
And yet he finds new whims and thoughts pulling at his attention now. They had developed slowly enough so as not to be noticed at first. Thoughts of Piett edging their way into his mind as his attention was focused elsewhere. Then the baffling realization that he felt he could actually trust the man. And then even more...
Even more that he cannot afford to entertain. Not with all that is at stake. His son's safety, the boy's life, the fate of the galaxy itself hinging upon his ability to remove Palpatine from the equation before it is too late.
The dark, quiet hours tick by, across days and days, and eventually one night his self control fails. He indulges, pulling up the security footage on his meditation chamber's display and sifting through the results for his query. He watches bits and pieces, snippets, as if that makes the intrusion somehow acceptable.
What would Piett say if he knew?
Piett's loyalty runs deep, but deepest for him. That has become very clear. He has an inkling that it is more than Piett himself is aware of, but perhaps that is an insult to him.
The facial recognition algorithms obediently find and present footage of his admiral. Revealing moments he isn't privy to. Moments in the corridors, the mess-hall, one of his cap removed for a moment, another fiddling with his gloves, yet another staring into the middle-distance deep in thought, and one more smiling broadly at some jest from General Veers.
…Veers. He too is privy to the treason, and also one of Vader's comrades. The general isn't as astucious as his admiral is, but he is competent in his own right. It serves him well that they are amiable with one another.
He lets shots of them together in one of The Executor's gyms play through without as much skipping. Both of them in tank tops, Veers in jogging pants and Piett in shorts. They go about their own routines for awhile, and then run beside each on the treadmills. Some jest again, Piett teasing Veers for not being able to keep up with him apparently, and the general taking it rather poorly.
Vader watches. Watches the easy familiarity play out, and how Piett moves and the sweat beads on his brow and soaks a line down his back.
He finds himself agitated, and kills the feed. It takes him several minutes to put a label to the tension in his blood, how every fiber has gone taught with need for something— to possess, to be favoured with the same sort of intimacy, to be favoured with more.
It's been so long, he'd forgotten what it felt like to want in this way…

Funny how originally The Sims was considered to be a satire on consumerism and late stage capitalism, and 26 years, 3 games, and thousands of dollars in DLC later, it might be getting in-game ads.
Full circle moment if the circle was on fire, and also the portal to hell.
