two things I noticed about Newsies today:

first of all, Les has Jack's dime novel after Jack leaves in Teddy's carriage but BEFORE he comes back

this means that Jack gave away his dime novel to Les either earlier in the day or sometime earlier in the week/strike

second, when Les goes off by himself to sulk because Jack left, Denton comforts him. BUT there's someone else who comforts Les too

so who's part of the comfort Les club?

well, we have David and we have Boots

but both David and Boots are accounted for

so that leaves... who's that walking over with our man Denton en route to Les Jacobs?

my evidence is:

the best thing is that this is actually true lol

In 1886, the Brooklyn Times newspaper wanted to expand their sales, so they offered to charge the Western District newsies less for their papers than the Eastern District newsies. 

This did not go over well with the Eastern District. The next day a whole group of them, “armed with sticks and stones, waited … near the rear entrance of the Times buildings, in South Eighth Street” to overturn the delivery wagons. Eventually, in part because the “adult newsdealers” stood by the newspaper publishers during all the strike (from what I understood), the Times reduced the wholesale price of the paper for the Eastern District as well, and the Brooklyn newsies strike was over.

TL;DR: The 1886 newsies strike started on March 29, 1886 and they resumed work on April 1, 1886, so the Brooklyn strike lasted 3 days. In comparison, the 1899 newsies strike was in July and lasted for 2 weeks.
