“Yeah?” he asked with a smile.  “How come?  Might open my mind a bit to the term.”

Anthony nodded as he made a note in his phone.  “I think I can manage.”  He paused for a moment before adding.  “Actually uh….do you guys do split payments or anything like that?  Money’s…kinda tight right now.”

“I’m guess I consider my pets my kids, and I think anyone who takes on the responsibility of one should treat them with that much love and care.” Percy smiles, kneeling to give the dog in question a quick pet. He rose again, circling to the other side of the desk. “We can do that,” he agrees, finding the correct file and account.

Noelle smiled at Percy and waved at him. “Hi, Perc.” They replied softly. Noelle put their bag down onto the table and glanced around. “What do you think? I mean… I know the renovations just started but… I think the door being painted a bright colour will look so much better for here.” Noelle told him. 

They smiled. “Oh and I’ve got the best news, if we start renovations… It means we can shelter more of the animals that get dropped off here.” They replied with a big smile. 

“It’s looking good so far,” Percy smiled. “Somewhat loud, but the animals don’t seem too bothered, it’s just the lobby that gets the brunt of it.” The vampire shrugged, giving Noelle a considering look. “I do like the change of paint. I’ve heard bright colors are more inviting, so our fur parents might enjoy that.” His face broke into a big smile, excitement shining clear in his eyes. “That’s amazing, I can’t wait for that. I hated not having enough space for them all.” His cheeks flushed. “And I was running out of space at home to keep taking some in.”

Lake had picked up the small cat and rushed him to the animal hospital. The only reason she knew where it was is because the men working on the renovations… or so it seems, found it. Lake pushed the door open and smiled, walking frantically up to the counter. She was face-to-face with a boy who looked like he was her age. “Hi there! Do you have time to look at this cat?” She asked him, hopeful. “The guys outside found him and I had to step in.” The brunette told him. “I didn’t want him to get hurt. He looks pretty young but I.. I’m not a vet.”

Percy had been so focused on the reviewing the chart he’d just finished, he didn’t even notice someone coming toward the door. He jump a little at the abrupt entrance, standing quickly as he processed her words. Rounding the corner he nodded. “I’m glad you brought him, I definitely have the time.” His brows furrowed as he glanced at the tiny animal. “He is definitely too small to be on his own. Follow me to the back — that is if you’ve got the time. He just seems to like you, and I think he could use all the comfort he can get.”

Rory waved back at the other as he approached, stomping through the field of tall grass. “Hey you. Oh, yeah. You’re fine.  I just wanted to say hey,” he said with a small smile. “It’s a pretty good spot for pictures, right?” 

Percy’s smile grew knowing Rory over just to say hi to him. “It’s good to see you again,” Percy laughed, nodding his agreement. “It’s absolutely beautiful, I don’t think the pictures will be able to show just how incredible it is out here. The birds seem to be posing sometimes which is quite helpful.”

Anthony smiled to the other.  “Eh, fair enough.”  Though he let out a snort at the ‘fur dad’ comment.  “Sorry, sorry, just never thought I’d be called that unironically.  But yeah, I love this little shit.  Should we bring her in for regular appointments?”

Percy grins at his reaction, shrugging as he continued to stroke the dog’s soft fur. “I know some people might find it extra, but I love the term.” The vampire replies. “As long as you’re okay with it, I think that’d be a great idea. I encourage all pet owners to see a veterinarian regularly, every few months or so. It’s good to get a check up and any shots she might need at some point.”

Snapping the last picture, Percy brings the camera to his lap, going through all the photos he'd taken. The sound of footsteps and the flapping of wings as the birds flew away brought him out of his head, turning towards it. "Hey, Rory!" The vampire smiled as he saw the familiar head of curls. "I hope it's okay I'm out here, I know I'm pretty close to the farm."

Percy had bee trying to finish organizing the paperwork for the day, the early sun rising from outside the windows. He glanced up as keys jingled and smiled when he saw his boss. "Morning Noelle," the vampire greeted, happy as always to be at work even so early.

Kellan frowned. “What… I…” He shook his head. “I did this? That’s why you’re still alive?” He sighed and glanced down. “I thought… I thought you were all dead.” He muttered to himself. Kellan felt like he had just been hit by a truck. “I’m so so sorry, Finley. I just… I thought the rest of the family would be better without me. I turned into a monster.” He replied honestly. “If I had known… I wouldn’t have left.” He continued. 

“Well you weren’t entirely wrong, I am technically dead.” She manages to keep her voice casual, despite how much she hates addressing it. She can’t help but flinch. “Well if you’re a monster I am too.” Finley tugs at her sleeves nervously. “I thought you stayed away because you didn’t want to deal with me like this. I figured you were enjoying your new immortal life free from any obligations.”

“As an animal feeder, do you find it difficult to look cute at your job? Do you have to wear those awful overalls and wellies?” Reyna asked with a shudder. “They should at least let you wear cute overalls and wellies with polka dots or flowers or something like that. How else are you supposed to get attention from hot people?”

Finley couldn’t help the small laugh at the random question, unsure whether it was an insult but amused still. “Well considering the things that sometimes get on them, I don’t really mind. The shade of blue isn’t bad, much better than the beige ones.” She assured her. “I don’t think many people are checking out animal feeders at the zoo anyway. It’s not what many people would consider glamourous work..”

“Excuse me, I realize this is a veterinarian’s office, but do you also keep any animals to adopt them out?” Reyna asked, approaching the first person she saw in the office that appeared to work there. “I’m interested in getting a dog. A cute little thing I can carry around with me. I just think that would be the most adorable thing.”

“You’re in the right place,” Percy smiled, coming around the front desk to address her. “The town isn’t really big enough for a shelter and a vet office, so we’re both.” He tilted his head giving her a considering look. “Well one of our furry residents is a two year old pug, she had gotten stuck and was brought in and treated. She’s in good health and a very sweet girl.” He leans on the desk, hesitating briefly. “Even if you’ve had a dog before, I’m obligated to say they require a lot of care and attention.”

Kellan almost burst into tears, something he hadn’t done for hundreds of years. “What.. I mean… How?” He asked, shaking his head. He let out a long sigh and pulled his sister back into his arms. “Seriously. You have to tell me everythin’.” He replied. “What… I mean… Do you drink coffee?” Kellan asked. “I can buy you a coffee. What about money?” He asked her. “I can give you some of that too.” 

“What do you mean how, you—” The joy that had filled her seeing Kellan after years of searching was gone as quickly as it had come. The small smile vanishing. She flinched back a little but quickly went from hurt to angry. “Are you kidding? I don’t need your money Kellan, I needed you.” She swallowed hard, crossing her arms over her chest. “You don’t get to kill me, turn me into a goddamn vampire and then disappear. Offering money doesn't fix how extraordinarily cruel it was.”

Anthony gave an embarrassed shrug.  “Well, never thought I’d be one of those pet owners that flips out over any little thing going on with their pet.  But, guess when I don’t got my kids to fawn over she gets the brunt of it.”  

He nodded at the question.  “Normally and greedily.  Little bitch is always complaining for more food.  She acts like we starve her.”  Despite his words his expression was warm, proud.  “And uh, just wanted to say thanks for keeping her hush hush.“

"Well it’s a good sign, it means you love her and that’s the most important thing in a pet owner. Just love them and the rest comes.” The vampire smiled, petting the soft fur as he considered his response. He couldn’t help the small laugh that escaped, feeling her stomach carefully.  “Well she is a good weight, so I’d say keep her regular feeding schedule, but it’s a really good sign that she’s got a good appetite.” He leaned back, letting the dog rest. “You’re welcome, she’s a sweet girl and I’m glad we were able to help. You’re a good fur dad,” he added, smiling.

“Cake.” he repeated, “right you’re going to have to be more specific, or I will just give you any random slice that I want.” Everett gestured to the display case that had all of their options for the day. The top row filled with trays of various slices of cakes. 

“Shit, yeah,” Percy grimaces. “I probably should have thought it through better, just the most chocolate cake you have.” He requests, eyes scanning all the options. “Do you have a favorite?”

It was late on a weeknight, Diana keeping herself to the shadows as she fed from some guy that wouldn’t let her be. She just wanted to have one night at the club with no one hitting on her, and this guy had to ruin it. So she took him into the alleyway next to Pandaemonium, relishing in the fresh and warm blood when she heard footsteps approaching. The young vampire glanced up, her senses on high alert–and then she realized she wasn’t the only vampire here. “I can share, if that’s what you wanted,” she told the other, wiping off the corner of her lips. “All you need to do is ask.”

Finley winced as she passed the club, the loud music and smell of sweat and alcohol overpowering. She was passing the alley when she caught onto a new scent, nose twitching a little as she froze. Her head whipped into the dimly lit alleyway, taking a few steps to follow it. She paused at the sight before her, swallowing hard. “I — wow, most vampires are much more territorial.” She blurts, licking her lips as her eyes flicker between the other vampire and her victim. “I haven’t fed on many live victims, I don’t have the best control,” she admits.

Kellan had been moping around more than usual but when he saw the flash of red hair, his heart almost stopped. “Fin?” He called out. Kellan rushed over to the stranger and grabbed onto their shoulder and spun them around. “Holy fucking shit, Finley!” He cried out. He didn’t even wait before pulling his sister into a hug and letting out a long sigh. “This must be a fuckin’ dream.”

Turning at the call of her name, Finley froze in place as her brother closed the distance between them. There was a flash of fear as she remembered the last time she’d seen him, and the joy of finding him after so long of searching. Any negative feelings he had disappeared quickly as he hugged her, feeling safe in a way she hadn’t in decades. “Kellan,” she wrapped her arms around him, tucking her face into his shoulder. “I can’t believe you’re here.”
