Reblogs in a chain now get their own notes
The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve.ย
Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, youโll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.
If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.
Past notes will stay on the original post โ we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.
This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out โ stay tuned!
Let's talk about reblog notes.
We rolled out a significant change to how notes work on reblogs, and the reaction has been strong. We're not going to pretend otherwise.ย
First things first: We're reversing the change. Your feedback in comments, emails, and especially reblogs, made clear that the rollout created problems we need to address before moving forward. We also should have communicated this differently from the start, and we didn't.
We still believe there's a better version of how reblogs can work. One that gives every voice in a chain the credit it deserves. But we want to get there with you.
In the coming days we'll share more on how we plan to do that,ย including ways to work directly with some of you on this and future changes before they ship.
Keep an eye on @staff for updates to come soon.ย

Itโs very clear that you all have strong feelings about Tumblr and about this change. We hear you. The passion people have for how Tumblr works is one of the things that makes this place special.
As this rolls out over the next few days and you explore it, weโll keep reading your replies and reblogs, so please keep sharing your questions, concerns, and ideas.
Your creativity has always been the heart of Tumblr, whether youโre the original poster or adding something brilliant in the reblogs,ย and nothing about this change is meant to limit that.
If youโd like to talk directly beyond the comments, leave a reply and weโll follow up with as many of you as we can. We want to work with you to make Tumblr better.
The new method of apportioning notes is devastating for me as a short story writer. I chose tumblr because of the way notes previously worked, the way they facilitated conversations and connections. Before, when I made a post linking to one of my short stories, it could spark conversations, connections. I could see everyone who liked it or reblogged it, I could engage with them, we could share ideas and talk and laugh and make art together.
When someone else made a post sharing their creative work, I could do the same! I liked boosting someone else's notes! It was a good feeling!
Now, if someone reblogs my story and adds a comment, I won't see any of the engagement that spins off from their engagement. I won't be able to make those connections. I won't be able to build a fanbase. And I won't be able to help others do the same.
This is genuinely a devastating change to the functionality of this website for writers and artists.
Yeah, I think a good compromise would be to including it in the total and then in the details put (Person liked X's reblog - with clickable link) because sometime people are liking the reblog that is disagreeing with the original poster. Then for notifications-wise give the OP a setting to receive all notifications from all branches, or just direct response notifications.

Here's a brown one I saw once
random PSA, I know a lot of people use duckduckgo as a Google alternative search engine, but it always kind of annoyed me when I was using it because it felt like No Name Brand Google
I have switched to using Startpage.com and vastly prefer it. for one thing, instead of displaying an "AI summary" at the top of the search results (unless you turn it off, yes I know), it displays the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article, with link, whenever it finds one that's relevant.
also a waaayyyyy better sense of design than duckduckgo
also private, European based, least annoying search I've used lately (RIP old "don't be evil" Google)
Keeping a list of Google alternatives just in caseโฆ
i have one of those, scraped from multiple different rec posts:
Search Engines
Infinity Search is an alternative search engine with a special focus on privacy
DuckDuckGo is a popular search engine for those who value their privacy and are put off by the thought of their every query being tracked and logged. Uses bangs, ![site] for in-page search (sells your data to microsoft and draws from fucking bing)
WolframAlpha is a privately owned search engine that allows you to โcompute expert-level answers using Wolframโs breakthrough algorithms, knowledgebase, and AI technology.โ A data search engine.
Boardreader is a search engine for forums and message boards. It allows you to search forums and then filter down results by date and language.
Based in France, Qwant is a privacy-based search engine that wonโt record your searches or use your personal details for advertising. Uses โ&โ as a bang search.
Another privacy-based search engine is Search Encrypt, which uses local encryption to ensure that usersโ identifiable information cannot be tracked. Metasearch across multiple engines.ย
Offering unbiased results from several sources, SearX is a metasearch engine that aims to present a free, decentralized view of the internet. Can be self-hosted.ย
Gibiruโs tagline is โUnfiltered private searchโ and thatโs exactly what it offers. Requires AnonymoX Firefox add-on for privacy.ย
Disconnect allows you to conduct anonymous searches through a search engine of your choice.
Swisscows provides fully encrypted searches to protect your privacy and security. Built-in violence/porn filter cannot be overridden.ย
MetaGer offers โPrivacy Protected Search & Findโ through its anonymised search. A plugin will allow it to be made a default.
Gigablast is a private search engine that indexes millions of websites and servers real-time information without tracking your data, keeping you hidden from marketers and spammers. Variety of filtration and refinement options for searching.ย
Oscobo is a search engine that protects your privacy while you search the web. By not using any third-party tools or scripts, your data is protected from hacking and misuse. Has a Chrome extension to allow use in toolbar.ย
https://search.marginalia.nu/ an independent DIY search engine that focuses on non-commercial content, and attempts to show you sites you perhaps weren't aware of in favor of the sort of sites you probably already knew existed. Use old-school searching rather than query-based for the best results.ย
https://www.mojeek.com/ย
https://wiby.me/ - Itโs goal is to index as many personalized websites as possible, and NOT commercial sites.ย
https://4get.ca/ it works a lot like SearX, but honestly better. It doesnโt have its own index, but pulls from many others. I think itโs the best for research, since it allows you to search for answers from different indexes, is easy to configure, add free, and avoids censorship as much as it can.
https://www.searchenginemap.com/ for more on how search engines relate to each other.
https://yep.com/ is a crawler
https://www.etools.ch/ retrieves from Google, Mojeek, Bing, and Yandex, like Searx
https://www.dogpile.com/ย
https://searxng.org/ (next gen Searx)
https://luxxle.com/ - possibly conservative?
https://presearch.com/ - good for academic?
https://kagi.com/smallweb - free/randomised Kagi.
Other Searchers
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.
https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.
www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.

LOL, I did not realise I'd accidentally switched to my 'for you' tab when I saw this. I was like yep, looks like California and thought it was just like a GMM landscaping aesthetic. It was only when I saw there was a phone number that I realised it was not in fact some aesthetic fan post.
Remember when I told ya'll last month to be ready to start looking for a Discord alternative?
Yeah things aren't looking good for discord.
#what is the alternative anyway
If you want a direct alternative there's Revolt, which is a free, open source discord clone.
Revolt is the chat app that's truly built with you in mind.
Oh...
It's even worse than I thought.
Time to go back to IRC.
I recommend Element; it's very similar to Discord and has basically the same features but it's privacy-focused and both servers and DMs can both be encrypted so only the actual users of those rooms can read the messages.
This means unlike most popular chat apps, including and especially Discord, Element doesn't sell your conversations or tracking data to advertisers, because the company literally doesn't have access to that data in the first place.
I've used it for years and I think it's a natural fit for Discord users.
sighs. saves for later
The problem with this is transferring YEARS of Discord usage to these new alternatives. Until a tool is made that allows full back up if not transfer of All That, then transitioning to these alternatives isn't feasible for the baseline everyday user.
Exports Discord chat logs to a file. Contribute to Tyrrrz/DiscordChatExporter development by creating an account on GitHub.
gmm fangame preview. also shared it on the Society server. am working really hard to finish it now.
Wouldn't it be awful for a trans person to finally get to start the hormones they've wanted, only to be turned by a vampire and get stuck in their current form because they are now undead?
Spin the wheel.
You have been offered a full-ride scholarship to get a four-year degree in this field, specifically. Upon graduation, you will be guaranteed a job in this field at the 75th percentile of average salary for the field, with the possibility of further advancement as the years go on.
However, you will never be able to get a job in any other field.
Do you take the offer?
100% yes!
Probably yes
I'm honestly torn, this is a hard choice
Probably not
Absolutely fucking not

No, no thank you. This does not interest me at all, and not only that, but it's not a high-paying job either.
