platonic third base: when you get to know someone well enough that they start making mortifyingly specific observations about you
Thinking about the whole "there is no platonic explanation for this" thing and how it doesn't account for intense platonic situationships and anyways I think we should start saying "there is no casual explanation for this" bc really what we're talking about is the way the characters in question are Obsessed with each other
i know i should be crying over the nick and charlie scenes (and i did) but damn that scene of tori explaining her relationship with michael hit me like a truck. i think i like the book coming out scene more than the movie one, but her explaining what seems to be her QPR with michael was so beautiful and i have never seen anything like that in a tv show or a movie. i had to pause the movie cause i was just crying. i felt so seen. alice oseman, let's start working on that loveless script now yeah? pwetty please 👉👈
Heartstopper 💗
Tori and Michael...
Absolutely beautiful representation of a queerplatonic relationship!
taking a break from tour posting for this important reminder
Any character can be aspec if you love them enough
how do u know the porn you’re watching is totally consensual
that these women weren’t forced into this work
that these women are of age
that these women were treated properly on set
that these women are okay with it being released in the format it has been released(onto which website/etc)
you fucking don’t
IF YOU’RE WATCHING HIGH-PRODUCTION PORN FROM MAINSTREAM COMPANIES, YOU CAN NOW BE CERTAIN OF ALL OF THESE THINGS. The major companies require an STD test every fourteen days, and some even require WEEKLY tests. They go to great lengths to make sure the performers feel comfortable on set and their actions are consensual, before and after filming.
They go to very, VEEEEEEEERY, perhaps annoyingly great lengths to verify age. If I lose ONE of my government-issued ID’s, I’m totally fucked fr work with these people. We also have to sign a LOT of paperwork, on video, while LISTENING to someone tell us “this will be published on the internet. is that okay?” to which we answer YES. More into amateur porn? That’s okay! You can still take measures to ensure that you’re buying safe, consensual porn! By buying it DIRECTLY from female performers on websites like MyGirlFund. Then, you don’t even have to give money to one of the big porn companies, which many of us understandably have some qualms with. It goes straight to her! I realize there are problems in sex work. NONE OF THEM GET SOLVED BY CONVINCING PEOPLE TO STOP PAYING US. YOU ARE STARVING SEX WORKERS WHEN YOU DO THAT. But hey, when have radfems ever given a fuck about the women they actively harm with their misguided efforts?

The casual arophobia I see in queer spaces and specifically ace spaces for some reason is really disappointing.
I don’t personally like the ‘love loses’ phrase because it’s inherently negative, and I wish we had something more uplifting. BUT suggesting that aro and loveless people who use this phrase in regard to their own personal (and often traumatizing) experience of amatonormativity are homophobic and ableist cannot possibly be a good faith argument. Especially coming from those outside the community which almost exclusively uses this phrase.
And it’s interesting that the people I see demonizing it are almost always alloromantic, so maybe consider what it feels like to be aro and/or loveless and see phrases like ‘love wins’ ‘love is love’ and ‘love makes us human’ being thrown around as collective queer slogans with no acknowledgement of those whose identities run directly counter to them. Like they don’t exist or aren’t living as correct humans.
I’ve been told I must be a naive American or too young to remember the AIDS epidemic if I feel this way. Protections in the US have been around for a very small proportion of my life - they are young and very tenuous, and I lived through the AIDS epidemic and rampant anti-queer sentiment. I understand the purpose ‘love wins’ served and why it’s important, but it left a lot of people in our very own queer community in the shadows. Both ideas can exist.
Ignoring the fact that op is just aphobic and the replies/notes on that post are aphobic, calling ace and aro people straight and saying we don't belong in the community...
"love loses" is very specifically a critique on how romantic relationships, and marriage, are viewed as the most valuable relationships.
And aromantic people can and frequently do love others. We form connections that are just as valuable as romantic relationships. Like I have a partner who I have sexual relations with but also view as a platonic friend. We are not boyfriends and I am not "in love with him", I do not want to marry him, I do not want to live with him. I still very much care about him and LOVE him.
I totally understand that "love wins" was a slogan adopted to celebrate the legalization of gay marriage. But I would say marriage is an oppressive institution that shouldn't legally exist!
Real equality would mean abolishing the institute of marriage as a government contract! That doesn't mean you can't have a wedding or call yourselves "husband" or "wife". What it does mean? Completely removing religion from government. Completely removing the governments ability to view certain relationships as more important than others. Letting people regardless of background or relationship status to appoint people in their life with the same rights we would currently appoint, and only appoint, a spouse. Not putting restrictions on disabled people's love. People being freely able to leave a relationship without having to go to court and wait a bunch of time or prove why they should leave. Polyamory not being a legal issues. Gay marriage not being a legal issues.
As an aro who has been abused by those who loved me, I want to see more love as horror. Love as suffocation. Love as violence. I don’t want to hear “if they really loved you they wouldn’t have—” as if love is some pure force, some inherent good. Show me love that is evil. Love that is haunting. Love that is poison dressed up as a cure.
Guys, did you know you can criticize purity culture without being acephobic? You can also criticize puritanism without belittling or blaming people who simply don't like explicit erotic content. Not everyone who doesn't like porn has been brainwashed by purity culture.
The sentences "Asexuals can still have sex" and "Aromantics can still date" need to go up on the high shelf for everyone except aces and aros talking about their own experiences. From now on, everyone else has to use the revolutionary new phrase "Asexuals and aromantics can do whatever the fuck they want forever."
Goodnight to everyone but especially to:
asexual people with libido
asexual people who masturbate
asexual people who likes porn
asexual people who likes reading smut
asexual people who likes concept of sex but not wants to do it in real life
it's Disability Pride Month and ironically I'm virtually out of spoons just over a week before book launch, but anyway once again I did a thing (but with a focus just on the book that's coming out because I am. so very tired)
lest I once again get yelled at by an anon in my inbox, here's the shitpost pitch I like to use which my editor probably wishes I would stop using since we're a week out from release
a 43-year-old undiagnosed autistic guy has a gay/lowkey monsterfucker awakening after getting lost in an enchanted forest, while his 36-year-old disabled deeply closeted sapphic sister goes after him with the most annoying woman she’s ever met
or for the real pitch, here’s just one of many places you can find the back-of-book blurb: link to The Lord of the Wood on E.M. Anderson’s website
asexuals have been speaking and writing for years about the fact that many of us have sex -- that indeed, many of us are incredibly sexually active and that our asexuality comes from us having a non-normative experience of sexuality that makes us especially likely to be stigmatized and oppressed alongside our fellow kinky queer siblings -- but people just do not listen, or worse act like it's laughable and cringey for us to be sexual beings. then they go on acting permanently confused by the idea that asexuals can have sex. we already told you. many times. in fact for many of us the depraved, gay-ass ways that we have sex are very central to us being asexual.
A new batch of @artomat blocks is in progress - here are some chromatically arranged.
