Conditioned, over-anxious whumpee being embarrassingly jealous of Caretakers dog. It had a bed and bowls for food and water and clear expectations, why couldn’t Whumpee? Why did they have to play this mind game of “how are you feeling?” and “what would you like?”? They would give up the bedroom, the dinners at the table, everything, just to let their mind relax, to follow orders, to not feel the constant dread of doing something wrong wrong wrong… To lay their head in caretakers lap, to be cooed at and praised and petted, they would give up so much just for a few minutes of peace.
whumper pulls whumpee up to their feet and lay down with them on the couch. their hands wander whumpee's body as they flip between news channels, finally stopping on one with whumpee's face.
"oh, they're still looking for you, honey," whumper says, dragging a finger down whumpee's thigh. "they usually give up by now"
One of them is loud, confident, a little mean, maybe even a bully. They have a big personality and take up the whole room when they enter. Everybody knows them, they are the guy who knows a guy who knows a guy. They have a big gang of friends, and they seem to be their leader. Wherever they go the rest of the group starts congregating around them soon enough.
The other one is like a background character compared to them. Quiet with a kind smile, friendly even, but a loner. They are part of the friend group, but nobody really knows or cares about them, they're just kind of... always there. They have the vibe of a lovestruck teenager who follows their crush around like a second shadow, only ever talking to them. They might be tolerant of other people, or they might only tolerate this one rude bastard, but either way, they seem to be looking to belong.
However, the reality is this:
Whumpee is the loud bastard, while whumper is their loner friend. And not only that! The one who is looking to belong somewhere is whumpee too. They are the one who always ends up with whumper one way or another, not the other way around.
From the outside it looks like whumpee is the one in charge, always acting tough and even making fun at whumper's expense — but it's all a front. They're playing pretend, and never is it any more obvious than when their shadow gives them a look, or touches them unexpectedly, or gets their attention some way. Whumpee's expression changes into one of an attentive dog, all big eyes, a nervous smile flickering before it disappears. Nothing like their usual shrugs and devil-may-care attitude — when whumper gets their attention, nothing else even exists outside of that. Whumpee's thoughts become filled with 'Did I go too far? Did I say something bad? God, what is it, what did I do this time? Are you mad at me? You know I never mean it! I'm sorry!
It only lasts a moment, just as long as whumper says whatever they wanted to say — something aimed just at whumpee, but it could be the most innocent thing, like asking for the time — and then they give a nod, and it's like nothing ever happened. The others might not even notice just how rapid whumpee's pulse became, how dry their mouth got, because they're already back to their usual brash, confident demeanour, joking and getting into wrestling matches with the others.
Whumpee may come off as an asshole, but they're actually quite nice and sensitive once you manage to climb the walls they've put up for protection and get to know them. Whumper may come off as just some loner, maybe they give kind smiles or look handsome, but unbeknownst to everyone else, they are definitely the one holding whumpee's leash. And when everyone else is gone, when whumper gets whumpee all alone, and nobody else is around to see...
If only the others cared enough to check. But their wincing from injuries is normal, they get into fights all the time. The dark circles under their eyes are normal, they probably stayed up all night again, playing video games or going out and getting shitfaced. The flinches, the fear in their eyes? It's gone in a moment anyway, they were just surprised, it's nothing, they're already back to being an asshole. That black eye? Again, normal, probably got into a fight with someone way stronger because they're an idiot like that. It's not like they ever ask for help anyway! They're fine!
They both pretend to be somebody else. Whumpee; somebody who is strong and confident, with lots of friends and tough skin, while in reality, they can be turned into a submissive, docile little thing with the right tone of voice, trapped and alone, stuck under their shadow's thumb.
Whumper; somebody who is normal, a nobody, just a friendless loner who always follows whumpee around pathetically, never even talking to anybody else but them, but in reality, their smiles are cruel, and their eyes glint with malice, and they cannot wait to get whumpee alone again, and they aren't mad, they won't be punishing whumpee for all those jokes they made, or for acting like whumper isn't in complete control of them in front of their friends... It's just a little fun, a game they like to play. Letting their little whumpee pretend to have their own life outside of whumper. In the end, both of them know whumpee wouldn't dare leave whumper's side for long <3
Do you see my vision?? This is so delicious i need to make some ocs
Whumpee with a fever is absolutely freezing and can’t keep their eyes open any longer. So, they put on some extra layers, gather up every blanket/soft thing they can, and stack everything onto their bed. They crawl under the heavy covers and fall asleep shivering. Then, when they wake up their fever has broke. Now they’re overheated and sweating, the weight from everything they stacked pinning them down and they feel too weak to push it all off. They weakly call out to Caretaker/Friend for help, lightly clawing at the mass around them.
(Bonus points if they don’t live with a Caretaker/Friend, and have to call them on their phone which is another challenge in itself)
Had some sketches in my sketchbook that I wanted to flesh out more digitally. I rarely draw actual whump stuff tbh, but it just kinda happened this time
big fan of the listless dissociated look that whumpees have after something that causes incredible pain (whether emotional or physical just a Lot of it) - when their eyes are focused on nothing and their mouth is a little open and maybe they're covered in blood and they're limp and just move with whoever is pulling them up rather than actually using any of their own strength. when blinking is the only acknowledgement they can give that they can even hear or understand what's going on. when they aren't even crying because that would take too much energy. they're just... tired. empty. dazed. yeah. big fan
I didn’t want to turn make my room completely dark, because I still wanted to listen to music, but not in pitch darkness. So I put my phone flashlight facing up like how I used to put my desk lamp up under my old forgotten bunk bed from the house I used to live at and tell me why the shadows underneath my actual lamp looked so ominous. I tried to take picture and it just couldn’t capture how long and alien like the shadow felt. I never create shadows from this angle and I wonder why it was making me uncomfortable… i was sitting on the floor, looking at it and reminding myself that it’s just a shadow .
Whumpee has a rival in life. Could be at work, school, or elsewhere.
Whumpee and Rival would never admit it, but they both live off the competition. It’s so engrained in their daily lives and mindsets that you would think they are on the way to a rivals to lovers situation.
But somewhere along the line, Whumpee experienced a traumatic with another whumper. Maybe an abduction or something. They are released or escaped back to their daily life and are completely shaken with bruises and a broken mind.
The rival doesn’t quite catch on at the beginning and accidentally makes Whumpee’s life miserable. The rival was just doing things they were normally doing but now it seems like full on bullying.
At some point they notice that Whumpee is not reciprocating. They try something really mean to get Whumpee’s attention but instead find a wound. Rival is horrified and wants to get to the bottom of what happened to whumpee
I can also see this fitting well into a hero villain type story
As much as I love a good caretaker/whumpee dynamic I need more whumpees with no caretaker.
They escape or whumper dumps them off somewhere when they’re finished with them and whumpee eventually makes it home and has to try to recover on their own
Tending to their wounds, self soothing after a nightmare, nailing windows shut/adding extra locks to give them a slight sense of safety, trying to deal with the accumulation of unpaid bills from their absence, begging for their job back, trying to do daily activities like cooking a meal or showering but each step is so agonising they have to fight to not pass out from the pain
slightly horrific idea uhhh.... poor lil whumpee who is a mascot. They were hurt and bleeding underneath their costume. They’re limping a bit but trying to appear normal and cheerful. Very quietly crying under a seemingly cheery character as every movement grinds at their wounds. Everyone around is unaware and interacting with the mascot happily while whump suffers inside.
Thinking up some possible whumpers :0 maybe their boss did this to them. Or maybe their boss only cares about the company image and told them to suck it up.
Maybe they are running from the whumper who caused this by hiding in the mascot.
Could also be whumperless and they just got hurt but still need money and have nobody to support them :(
What random whump media scenes did yall like when u were younger?? / gave you whumperflies before you knew what whump was?
This is a little list of whumpy things i remember enjoying before I knew what whump was. :
unfortunately several of mine were bible movies ;-; highly tragic
Ten commandments movie: when m is beat with both arms tied behind him around a pole. Also that scene where Joshua turns up and he’s clearly exhausted from walking the entire dessert
Joseph movie: when he randomly gets beat by the baker for no damn reason. Completely undeserved
John newton movie: sleeping on the boat, clearly disoriented. getting water dumped on his bleeding, scarred back after being beat. that night he's slumped in bed the uncomfortable cabin bed, breathing awkwardly. The other crew mates were instructed not to talk to him. Later he is chained outside that lady’s house, being asked to do meaningless tasks when all he wanted to do was return to his loved one.
Barbie movies: her being kidnapped with a giant potato sack in princess and the pauper. same with the dude too
The three musketeers barbie movie: one where the guy is planning on killing his prince cousin. All I wanted was for the uncle to get way closer to his goal and maybe lock the prince up for a bit.
YouTube series my next door neighbor: when Doris going over to her rude neighbor to invite him for dinner at her parents request. He yells at her and she goes home. But her parents give her a basket of food to take to him. She becomes so overwhelmed with having being yelled at that when he opens the door, she’s already broken down into tears.
A scene in a random police tele novela: I watched it in Spanish and I don’t remember the name of it. There was one where one of the police gets framed and spends half the episode running from his colleagues. Another one where someone named axel gets kidnapped
Inception: that scene where the richmanson (played by cillian murphy?) has tape around his mouth and they lower it and his lip kinda bounce
Recently watched caught stealing: oh shit it is just… the scene where the his legs get spread :0
Random comic book: it didn’t belong to me, but I remember catching a glimpse of a scene where a dude was tied up to a spinning wheel and they were shooting darts him ;-;
That whole storyline with astarion
And the scene in Detroit become human where Connor dumps cold water on drunk Hank
i might add more if i remember
Genuinely feel like I’m going insane right now. Staring up at the ceiling corner cuz i can’t remember who I am for a sec.
whumpee stares at the tub, full of steaming water, and shudders.
caretaker calls from the other side of the door, "everything alright? it's not too hot, is it?"
whumpee clears their throat and shake their head, "no, no, it's-" they exhale sharply and shake their head, "it's fine. i just."
I want to take a shower instead.
still staring at the tub, whumpee can feel whumper's hands on them, their nails scrubbing at caked on dirt and grime. their hands running all over whumpee's body-
whumpee shakes their head again and step into the tub, "it's fine, caretaker. thank you"
