If you have any conditions, disabilities, chronic illnesses, etc that will never go away, and you’re struggling because of them, hearing people say generic phrases like “it will pass” or “it will get better” can be really upsetting. So what I want to say is this: those things may not pass or get better, but the struggle you go through can evolve.

I’m talking from experience. Years ago, I struggled so much because of my disability, and everything felt awful. I’m still struggling, but I’m doing so much better now. My disability itself hasn’t “gotten better” or “passed” since then. My life’s improved because over time I learned more and more coping mechanisms. I keep growing and learning more ways to deal with my symptoms, my thoughts, my emotions… And every time it makes things a little easier.

I never thought I’d get this far. My younger self could’ve never imagined it. And yet I did.

So hang in there. I trust that eventually, we’ll all be able to cope with things better. I believe in all of us.
