Are E-Cigs the Market Solution That Can Save a Billion Lives?

“This is a market solution to one of the biggest health crises we’ve ever seen in the history of the world,” says Aaron Biebert, director of A Billion Lives, a documentary that makes the case that regulatory agencies and non-governmental organizations are engaged in a campaign of misinformation against e-cigarettes. “It’s disturbing to me that something that’s working is being demonized.”

Here’s the deal. I worked at a vape shop from May 2014-June 30 2016 when IN’s monopolistic regulations put the shop I worked for out of business. I was the primary mixer for all of our in-house e-liquid lines. Yep I live in Indiana. I had a job until the state legislature created a monopoly to benefit one senator and his cronies. The law they created was so strict not ONE security company in the entire fucking US could comply, so the legislature created a second bill to give a one off monopoly to the friends of said senator. When the state senate heart it would kill 2000+ jobs and close close to 1800 businesses, they LAUGHED. Republicans and democrats alike, laughed as they put 2000 families into unemployment and putting more of a strain on the state support system. That’s not touching on the benefits of it. I’m 39. I was born to a smoking mother and father. It was the 70s smoking during pregnancy hadn’t yet been fully outlawed. I lived with a smoker in some way every day of my life until my bf quit in January 2014, using vaping. He still vapes. I have exercise induced asthma. I’ve been diagnosed since 1995. When he quit smoking my peak flow at rest was in the 250 l/m range. Today my peak flow at rest is around 400 l/m. I vape. I personally never smoked. I picked it up for two reasons (1) I kept smelling his and wanting things like sweets and snacks. I started vaping for flavor. (2) I worked in the industry and it was weird to say ‘use this product, I don’t. Vaping has saved my life, and that of most of my family. My mom included. I don’t vape as often now that I’m not working in the industry, but I still do it. It still helps. I’ve used the flavored vapor to control cravings for sweets by making my brain think I had cookies when I haven’t had any calories at all. In 2011 I was sick with Bronchitis for 6 months, antibiotics nothing really helped. Every year I’d get sick for a month or two at a time, a couple times a year if not more often. Since there’s no smoker in the house and since I took up vaping i’ve been sick exactly once, with a cold each year, (oddly enough it’s around now, and yep I’ve got a cold again). But once a year for a week beat the fuck out of anywhere from 2-6 months several times a year. I vape more when I get sick. Because menthol vapor (think vaporub and the vaporizers you find in the health section at walmart used when you were a kid) - yeah those - same principle - that fucking works. 1-2 puffs of pg and menthol flavoring means not needing a 30 calorie cough drop every hour. And I can sleep. I know tumblr has this fascination with the ‘yeah we get it you vape’ memes and shit. If you want to talk about it or want to know more - fucking hell - hit me up.
