The amount of people refusing to believe that Will is gay and implementing that they believe it’s because he doesn’t want to grow up due to the time missed while he was possessed and in the upside down, like but.....
nowhere was it necessary to say “it’s not my fault you don’t like girls.” If regarding to not wanting to grow up. It would’ve been so easy to say something regarding “growing up” or that “we can’t stay young forever.” to be the punchline that hurts.
It may partly be true that it may be not wanting to grow up. But no where near was THAT line directed towards growing up.
First of all, Wills reaction is shock, hurt and almost betrayal.
The fact Will has been a queer coded character through out the entire show since episode one. The only one who hasn’t expressed any interest in girls.
Will was ONLY offended at that line. And no PREVIOUS line. Like it was intended to hurt, as it was an argument.
Mike took a jab as him “not liking girls” as a fight back in their argument rather than ‘not wanting to get a girlfriend’ due to wanting to remain a child, so to say.
Mike felt the need to apologise for what he said like he knew it was wrong to say it.
Before then saying, “But we're not kids anymore.” only AFTER saying the not liking girls line. Like they aren’t meant to mean the same thing but he said that to change the conversation back to the subject matter of the lost childhood situation. Although Will is still reeling.
I’ve seen so many interpret the line otherwise as being a missed time from his childhood thing which it definitely partly is. But the way that line was worded specifically and the choice of line was a massive hint. They could have said/picked something much clearer like the but were not kids anymore line for Will to be very hurt at.
I hope this makes some sort of sense but it’s late and I’m ranting
