BIOGRAPHY !
Nothing was known about the birth of a young baby boy relinquished to a hospital in San Diego in the middle of a gruelling gusty day in October—perhaps ending up in the arms of a young nurse was some sort of indication of his later life, but on that fateful day the biggest question was making sure he was safe. He was named Nicholas—after the nurse that first laid eyes on him. After getting the clear from the hospital, Nico was sent to a local foster home. Being eighteen months when he was adopted by the Mackenzie's, he does not have any memories of his time at the foster home, but he was well taken care of by the family.
Nico was never a perfect kid, but he was loved greatly by his parents. Like many children his age, he was very curious about the world around him. His parents were supportive of him—which helped cultivate a positive relationship among him and his siblings. Nico was proud to be the older brother, to make sure they were all safe and happy. He was enthused to be the head duckling on the motley crew that was his siblings. While he was never the perfect child, he was healthy and happy—and that's all his parents could ask for him.
He got into hockey when he was eight and quickly fell in love with the spot. Introduced by a friend when he was over at their house after school, Nico loved how quick and messy the sport could be—while also enjoying the cool air of an ice rink. Nico expected his parents to say no, but they both agreed to let him play, signing him up to play with a local league. Even at a young age, he worked hard to develop his skills on the ice—and eventually took his travel league to the championships. By the time he reached high school, his entire life was taken up by hockey, being part of both his high school team and a local travel team. He gained the attention of scouts from all over the country.
Despite professional teams sending offers, Nico decided that he'd rather go to college and hone his skills before joining any professional team—hoping that it would help hone his skills. He went off to play for Boston College and major in sports management. School had never been his strong suit, but he'd always tried to succeed in everything that he tried. It took a little bit of an adjustment, but after the first year at college, Nico started flourishing. His grades may not have been all passing, but he did well enough. The plan was to graduate and hopefully get drafted into a minor or professional league. Until junior year, Nico got into a really bad incident on the ice that left him with three broken ribs and a shattered arm.
While Nico wanted to get better and get back to playing hockey as soon as possible, he did decide to take his recovery seriously, but he was in a lot of pain. Though he rested, the recovery was starting to get too slow. When he was eventually dropped from his college team, Nico heard about an experimental procedure that could help him with recovery and lost without hockey, he tried it. It helped, but it was still going to be a long process to recovery. Nico struggled with both the pain and depression, so he turned to pills to help with his recovery, knowing if there was any chance he could return to hockey he would.
After two years of struggling with addiction and still feeling like he had no prospects of a steady job, Nico was twenty four and felt like he was at his all time low. He made his way back to Aurora Bay and his family. Although he'd always been close to them, it was weird being back because he'd wanted to be independent and he'd been keeping them at a distance—not necessarily avoiding them, but not telling them anything either. When he came back it was clear that he was not in a good place. He wanted to keep the worst from those he cared about—and in doing so, he destroyed his own health. He knew that he wanted to be a good role model for his siblings and felt like a failure, so he quietly checked himself into rehab.
Nico worked on a more holistic way to manage the pain in his shoulder and ribs and slowly began to let his family in again, especially when his dad was diagnosed with cancer. Nico had enough to deal with on his own, but he wanted to be there for his family. He made sure to be there for every one of his sibling's events, every soccer game Sage played, everything his younger siblings did. Nico knew that there was tension with some of his family members, but he damn sure was going to do his best to be there for them when it mattered the most.
After his dad's diagnosis, Nico decided that he didn't want to rely on his family's money anymore, got a job at the bookstore while he worked to become a paramedic. The medical field, while he knew could be potentially difficult as a recovering addict, was important to him after the issues he had as well as his dad. He's been working as a paramedic for the past five years and loves it. He's in a much better place than he was even two years ago. There's a part of him that misses the thrill of hockey and he's been toying with the idea of coaching a team around Aurora Bay.
"Yeah, pretty much. Most of them spend their time gliding around the tank or hanging out on the bottom." He shrugged like as if he didn't know what was or what wasn't normal for them. Tyler did have a degree in marine biology."But what's normal?" He chuckled softly. Thankfully these ones didn't have a sting people problem.
"Weird. Wonder what's different about today." He had no idea what was normal for them because he didn't spend a ton of time paying attention to marine animals unless he was trying to help someone hurt by one. Which it was always the person's fault, but still. "I don't know. Normal isn't real."
Mia chuckled. "What is it with men and locker room talk?" she asked. "Does it make you boys feel more..manly? Or is it the thrill of being able to get violent without a League and social media ripping you a new one?" || @nicomackenzie
"To be fair to me, my locker room talk was half me telling my teammates they were hot. Because they were." Nico shrugged. "I don't know. Half the time I let my teammates say whatever they wanted to say. We mostly just joked around, nothing too serious."
Raf: what? boring? green is the color of forests?
Raf: I see... so that isn't helping apparently
Raf: Why do you picture yourself alone? Maybe that's something you should discuss with your therapist?
Raf: Guess we won't be moving in together
Nico: Forests are creepy
Nico: No, not really.
Nico: Cause I don't know any of my friends that would willingly go into a forest with me. They'd probably be annoyed with me after 10 minutes.
Nico: ... are your walls white?
Location: The Salty Siren brewery || @aurorabaystarter
"No, come on!" Mia laughed. The beers consumed were already making her a much nicer person. Plus the story was funny so... "There's no way you said that and didn't get your butt handed to you."
"Yeah, I mean that was kind of tame compared to some of the shit we said to each other in the locker room." It had been a long time since he'd thought about the good old days. "If it helps, I absolutely did get my ass handed to me. Just... like on the ice."
The stingray bay had special mats on the floor to avoid tripping hazards. One stingray in particular, the big one liked to splash those who got close but that was entertainment for the tourists and regulars. "She is extra today, isn't she?..."
The aquarium wasn't his favorite place to spend time, but he wanted to get out of the heat and that was much better than the museum where he'd be bored out of his mind. "How can you tell? Is that not normal behavior for them?" Nico knew nothing about stingrays. Other than how to provide first aid to someone who'd gotten stung by one.
Raf: I think you need more wood
Raf: If you want to lean towards rustic
Raf: Green? But I don't know if I'd paint a wall that color. I'm honestly alright with white walls.
Raf: As long as they're not blindingly white.
Raf: if you're not sure then you're probably not that into it. sounds like you have too many doubts.
Nico: Green is such a boring color. Blue is the color of the ocean.
Nico: It's calming. Green makes me think of being stuck in a forest alone.
Nico: ... that seems boring. White walls. I could never.
Nico: It's meant to be inviting, but you know kind of extra and a little rustic.
Nico: What's your favorite color then?
Nico: Hmmm. I don't know how I feel about it.

Location: Outside of Elliot's house around 11 PM
Having a smart house was great... when your phone was charged. Elliot had gotten caught up doomscrolling at the bar and before he knew it he was too drunk to drive and he only had just enough battery life to call an Uber to drive him home. His phone died in the car and while he wasn't plastered he certainly couldn't say his alphabet backwards right now and as the his ride drove off he was now faced with having to get into his house without being able to use his phone. It shouldn't have been a problem getting into his house as he had a code he could use to open the door when he didn't use his phone but having never tried the code before he'd set for his house code had completely slipped his brain.
"Are you kidding me?" Elliot vented as he typed in one last combination which led to his house now intentionally locking him out for 15 minutes in an attempt to stop him from intruding into his own home. Elliot wasn't angry man but this inconvenience was enough to make him have to take a step back from his door to stop him from punching this stupid "smartlock" and sending the cops to his house.
Elliot wasn't sure what to do. It was late and this wasn't the sort of neighborhood you go knocking on people's doors during the middle of the night at. He was debating trying to hop his fence to at least be in his backyard if he was going to be locked out all night when he saw some headlights coming down the street. Elliot rushed to the side of the road nearly getting himself hit by the driver as he swung his arms about to try and flag them down. It was a hail Mary but hopefully the driver had a USB-C cable and a willingness to let him charge his phone enough to be able to unlock his house.
Nico was one of those people that while he did own his house, he still had roommates to help out with everything. But he rarely got to see his roommates because their work hours were opposite most of the time. Maybe he should rethink having people around to help with like... dishes and shit. Still, he knew when he pulled into the neighborhood that he was going to be alone for the night.
Fortunately, as he pulled up to his house, he noticed Elliot outside his own house. Honestly, Nico didn't pay much attention to his neighbors drama because he didn't have time, but he did help them when he could. And he was friendly to his neighbors. "You good? Need help?" he asked, slowly pulling up beside his neighbor. "Or like... do you need me to call someone?"
“ I doubt that though. How could something where you help people ever be boring ? “ Ramsey asked when she looked over at Nico with a small smile again. Sure she had a fun job but why did it actually do for the world? She was paid to be pretty and sell clothes. “ yikes and here I thought I had early call times “
“ people who hate caramelized onions clearly just don’t like flavor. Liek what are they getting out of life? “ she asked glancing back to him with humor to her tone but she was being dead serious “ usually I have to be at check in 4 hours before a show so that could very between, later in the day or at 6 am. It all depends. It’s modeling but sometimes if we’re in prep for fashion week or something I’m not sleeping “ @nicomackenzie
"It depends on the day. Some days there's less emergencies, those are the good days, even if they can get boring." That might seem mean to say. "There's only so much you can organize a rig before it gets boring." And nights could sometimes be worse if he picked up one of those shifts. "I've worked night shifts before. I'll pick them up. Sometimes they have to tell me I have to go home." Nico worked way too much.
"Nothing, clearly." He wasn't a huge fan of food without onions. "If a dish doesn't have onion or garlic in it, I really don't want it." Then again he could understand people with a texture thing. "Wow, that's annoying. Do you at least like it?" he asked. Clearly she did or she'd want another job. "Fashion week seems like a ton of work and I don't even know what that entails."
🍰 Cake - How good are they at cooking and/or baking?
"I'm the worst at cooking. I eat a ton of ramen. I mean I can make it fancier than just noodles and the packet, but yeah.... I tend to stay away from the kitchen."
What is your muse’s love language / how do they show affection?
"I don't know. Probably acts of service. I spend a lot of time at work and have a difficulty creating time for the other love languages. Gifts are nice, I guess, but I'd rather give them than get them."
