Blows my mind that Luke had one of the most traumatic things to ever happen in Layton happen to him and they played it off like he's fine. Like, he's 15 years old, sailing the world, the boat starts sinking, he sweeps the boat looking for anyone that needs help, comes across a woman in full labor, helps her deliver the baby, and he's not able to carry the mother to safety, ONLY her baby. AND she asks him to take care of her and locate her father! Then he has to watch the ship sink knowing she's still on it. Like I know the whole dropping Randall thing fucked Hershel up but what Luke went through ramped it WAY up.

I think this is one of the best plot points in the anime. It shows how kind and selfless Luke is and it’s still in character for him.

It was Kamilla’s dying wish for Luke to take care of her baby and to find her father. Luke nearly died himself trying to save her and the baby. If there’s a chance he could help her even more and keep the baby safe? Also, Kamilla’s last name is Azan. I’m sure that doesn’t bring back any bad memories for Luke Of course Luke would do everything he could to solve the case, maybe even years down the line.

So, Luke takes the baby to Layton, like Kamilla asked. Layton says he’ll look after the baby (Thank you, Professor! Luke is only fifteen!) and he’ll take on Kamilla’s request. Layton researches the Relic Stones for a few years in the hopes of finding out something about Kat’s father, but he doesn’t have any luck, so he adopts Kat.

Years later, Luke does stumble across something related to the Relics Stones again, so he starts looking into things on his own.

Unfortunately, Don Paolo gets involved and Luke gets captured. Did Luke even expect Layton to be the one who would save him? Marina went to get Layton (because she was scared and confused- fair) but anyone could’ve found Luke with the puzzles he’d left behind. I’m sure Flora could have, if Level 5 remembered she exists

Wish the anime had put more focus on how Luke shut his loved ones out but his motivations make sense! Luke is still traumatised by the shipwreck and probably has some trauma left from Azran Legacy. (“I am NOT facing another family soap opera with Kat’s birth family decades down the line. We already died once!”)
