Design notes for the Melnyks pt. 1/?

These have been sitting around for months because I haven't had the time to do the rest of the kids and I wanted to post them all together buuuuuuutttttt 😅

Does Jade have any family?

hiii! he does indeed! he has a happy, Very chaotic family of five siblings (one older, four younger) and his mom and dad, plus two uncles that visit somewhat regularly. He’s the loudest voice and definitely the ringleader of the many, many shenanigans and pranks the bluecotton kids are notorious for. Here’s his siblings!

From left to right it’s topaz (14), ruby (4), jade (12), peridot (10), sapphire (11), and garnet (10)

oc ranking: who is the stinkiest and smelliest at any given moment

I'm assuming we're talking in the very literal sense? 😅

1. Veers is going to take this. He gets so focused on his Task that personal hygiene becomes a forgotten responsibility.

2. Tie for Gabrielle and Tonio. I mean they're trudging through a humid, dusty wasteland, and they're rather preoccupied with other things. Tonio would try harder to wash off when they find clean water, but Gabrielle is a bit more heat tolerant.

3. Captain Blade is definitely up here. He lost his sense of smell in an accident (not a good look for a wolf) and so doesn't always notice when he has a smell matted into his fur, or that his last meal had a lot of something strong in it.

1. Jasper, hands down, on the daily. He has a problem.

2. Mitch. Idk what the in-world equivalent to alcohol is, but once he finds it he will be indulging

3. Toss up between Eli and Veers, the former because he's flipping stressed and the latter because he can't do anything part way.

These are more focused on the background stuff rather than the usual "what would the character do in XY situation" kinds of asks. I've been looking for something like this for quite a while and in the end decided to make my own. Feel free to use, go wild, enjoy

What was the original thought that led to the creation of this character?

How long was the process before the character reached its final version? (or a version that would be clearly recognizable as the character?)

What was the first thing you decided on, the character's name, appearance, personality or their role in the story?

And reverse, which one of the four things did you struggle with the most?

How did you choose their name and why? Was it simply based on vibes or is there any specific meaning behind the name? Are the reasons behind their name different in- and out of universe?

What was the thought process behind their appearance? Did you go mostly for the aesthetic or are there other reasons they look the way they do?

It seemed strange and sad to Rionnlluad, to be half star with none of the fire.

made this from a scene in Rionnlluad's story, in a burst of inspiration that thankfully lasted long enough to finish it!! it was really fun using limited colors to help tell the story. and it was great practice drawing my phoenixes, birds are so difficult. :')

Rin's first time meeting his weird and slightly spooky cousin didn't go so well. maybe next time...?
