Zuko really didn’t have time for this. Handling a spirit’s hurt pride definitely wasn’t his forte.

Instead, he gets to the point immediately. “Where is ambassador Sokka,” he asks stiffly.

Khon pauses. When he answers, he presents his pointy teeth.

During his search for the Avatar, Zuko had made a deal with a spirit named Khon: a throne and a happy return to the Fire Nation for his heart’s true love. Years later, Khon returns to claim his prize from the young Fire Lord and Zuko has to travel into the spirit world to rescue Sokka. Yet, the damsel-in-distress in question is not overly delighted to reunite with his stupid-brooding, incommunicative, no-good former boyfriend. But first they have to survive the minacious whims of two intricately star-crossed eternal beings.

Finally I can share this fic I wrote for @zukkabigbang2024 with you!

This journey would not have been possible for me without the one and only @atuats-sidechick! They closely beta-read the fic and gave me many detailed and smart notes.

Here's a little info on Wikipedia, but not much. Kobena Mercer is an art historian who has a modern view on the piece that would probably be informative but I can't find where to read it.

This page talks about the picture frame which is original to the piece. Even the label on the back is stunning.

I also found an engraving print made of the original.

Yup, so this quote is taken out of context. Because what Le Guin is talking about in her essay is the capitalization of the book market, in which literature becomes market ware that needs to sell and make profits. And she makes the argument that literature is not created for profit and that during the longest time of human history most people weren’t reading. They did not have the time and capacity. So the book market can’t exponentially grow, because the readership is lacking. But because capitalists want it to grow, they are publishing more and more subpar literature, which is “poisoning” everyone. Her conclusion is that publishers should exempt literature from the capitalist market, that for literature to thrive it cannot be bound to money and numbers. And that if publishers hope to influence public opinion, they are bound to fail.
