Hebru Brantley is a Bronzeville-native whose art explores personal and cultural memory, taking themes from his 1980's upbringing, specifically blaxploitation and science fiction depicted in cinema. And although his work is receiving recognition from the world's elite, Hebru Brantley has no intention of going Hollywood. While he could have used the positive buzz to leverage his career, Brantley is instead seizing the opportunity as a chance to create work that "triggers an emotion."
