Lapis Lazuli was not the abuser.
The more I see people say that "Lapis was the abuser" in the whole Jasper and Lapis situation, the more braincells I feel sizzle away.
Lapis was NOT the abuser, and she was not mutually abusive she was the result of Reactive Abuse and here's why -
Reactive abuse is when a victim of abuse reacts aggressively or emotionally to ongoing mistreatment, in other words, they hit their limit.
This is exactly what happened to Lapis especially in her and Jasper's relationship, Lapis was coerced and downright FORCED and assaulted into fusing with Jasper, Jasper was not asking, she was forcing and dominating.
There's a clear power imbalance between the two parties; the reason Lapis agreed to the forced fusion was because she knew Jasper would've hurt the others, she didn't WANT IT that was made clear.
Lapis JUST got out of being imprisoned and trapped for THOUSANDS of years, then she gets kidnapped, then she gets into a forced toxic fusion of which she did not want and was clearly hurting her whether it be psychically or mentally.
Wherever Lapis went she was surrounded by her abusers, her first encounter with jasper and peridot was getting kidnapped and imprisoned once again. It was understandable she was upset.
people bring up the fact Lapis "Liked taking it out on Jasper" and "Missed her", now listen, take in the definition of reactive abuse I gave you earlier Lapis reacted to being coerced and abused by Jasper by imprisoning both of them at the bottom of the ocean.
"I'm done being everyone's prisoner! Now you're MY prisoner! And I'm never letting you GO!"
The fact of the matter is that Lapis wasn't "mutually" abusive she was a victim of abuse who reacted to said abuse, she's a great representation of trauma and PTSD just as Steven is and her trauma was dealt with in the best way possible, this is the representation we need.
